Do you struggle with knowing how to say no without feeling guilty?Maybe you've said yes to something, then immediately felt that heavy feeling in your stomach because you knew you didn't really have the time, energy, or desire to do it.In this episode, I'm talking about how to say no in a way that honors your life, your people, your peace, and the work God has placed in your hands. We're continuing the conversation from the last episode on what it means to choose your absence and turning our attention to chapter 17 of The Next Right Thing by Emily P. Freeman, where she talks about finding a “no mentor.”A no mentor is someone who can help you make wise decisions when you already know something should probably be a no, but you don't quite have the confidence to say it yet. This is the person who reminds you of what you value, what you have time for, what season you're in, and what you truly want to give your energy to.Because the truth is, saying no is not always easy.Sometimes we say yes because we don't want to hurt people's feelings.Sometimes we say yes because we want to seem agreeable.Sometimes we say yes because we feel responsible for everything and everyone. And sometimes we say yes because the opportunity looks good, even though deep down we know it does not align with where we are going. But when we keep saying yes to things that do not belong, our calendar gets full, our hearts get heavy, and we lose the space we need for the things that truly matter. In this episode, I share why information is not always enough. We can read the books, listen to the advice, and understand that we need better boundaries, but when the moment comes, we still need the courage to act. We need to move from knowing to doing.I also share why my sister has been a no mentor for me, especially when I need help making decisions around relationships and personal connections I want to preserve. Some decisions require wisdom, care, and a trusted voice that can help us see clearly. We talk about what kind of person makes a good no mentor. Someone whose values align with yours. Someone who has context for your life. Someone who understands the underbelly of your choice. Someone who respects you but is not so impressed by you that they cannot tell you the truth. This episode is especially for the introvert who feels overwhelmed by obligations, expectations, and opportunities that may be good but are not right for this season. Here's the question I want you to sit with:Do you have the time, space, and energy to pursue the life, dreams, and calling God has placed in your heart while still carrying all the things you've already said yes to?If the answer is no, I hope this episode gives you the courage to pause, reflect, and choose what truly matters.Learning how to say no is not about being selfish. It is about stewardship. It is about protecting your peace. It is about honoring your limits. And it is about making room for the life God is inviting you to live.Send me an email and tell me: do you have a no mentor in your life?Share this episode with a friend who struggles with saying no.Leave a review and let me know what stood out to you from this conversation.Support the showContact UsAsk a question or leave a comment, visit shepact.com/voicemailFollow me on Instagram at instagram.com/remiroyEmail us: thedrivenintrovert@shepact.comEnjoying the podcast?Share the podcast with a friend: shepact.com/TDIPodcastLeave a review: We'd appreciate it if you could WRITE a review for us. If you've ever thought, “I don't even know what I want anymore,” or “I know what I want, but I'm scared to say it out loud,” this episode is for you.So many women entrepreneurs aren't held back by strategy. They're held back by guilt. The moment you choose what's right for you, someone close to you has an opinion… and suddenly you start shrinking, explaining, apologizing, and making your dreams smaller so other people can stay comfortable. In this episode, Maggie breaks down why that guilt shows up, how the “good girl” conditioning impacts ambitious women, and what it actually looks like to own your choices without burning relationships down or abandoning yourself. In this episode, you'll learn:Why many women struggle to admit what they truly want (and how people-pleasing sneaks into your goals)The difference between wishing and deciding — and why real decisions create momentumHow the invisible load and mental labour impact women's energy, confidence, and risk toleranceWhat pushback can look like when you start growing (even from people who love you)How to stop treating guilt like a compass — and start treating it like a signal you're breaking an old patternCalm, firm language you can use when someone doesn't agree with your choicesMaggie's personal stories in this episode:The year she chose to wait, prepare, and reapply to an elite university program (even when her dad disagreed)The decision to divorce her first husband — and what it taught her about choosing truth over comfortYou are allowed to want what you want. You are allowed to build wealth. You are allowed to be ambitious. You are allowed to choose a life and business that fit you.And when you live in alignment, you show up as your best self. As a leader, business owner, partner, and mother. The people who truly love you for who you are will appreciate that version of you.Ready to stop shrinking? If you're ready to get clear on what you want, lead with confidence, and build a business that supports your life (without guilt running the show), book a complimentary consultation here - https://www.stairwaytoleadership.com/We'll talk about where you are, where you want to go, and what needs to shift so you can grow without abandoning yourself in the process.
What do you do when the person who raised you... is also the person who keeps hurting you?In this personal episode, Esther — your host from Switzerland and a Tony Robbins Senior Leader — opens up about a phone call that happened just days ago. A call where she asked about his life, his meals, his days — and received nothing but blame in return. She shares the moment her father told her she was mentally ill. The years of driving 2+ hours every week just to show up for him. And the decision she finally made — not out of cruelty, but out of survival. This episode isn't just about Esther's story. In this episode, Coach Justin, Coach Emily, and Coach Amanda explore the often overlooked connection between physical health and spiritual well-being. They address misconceptions about self-care, the importance of physical fitness for christian service, and how caring for your body glorifies God. They acknowledge the lies taught often in the church that the "most holy" activities are Bible reading and prayer, and that almost all else can be forsaken. What we do with our hands, and our whole bodies, matters. How we steward our physical vessel matters. The coaches also chat about why someone may feel guilty, the false piety some people can have towards the subject, and what the Christian response SHOULD be. To take good care of our body is a reasonable and proper response of thankfulness for the gift of the physical, as well as a wise use of our time to make our efforts for God's kingdom here on earth go further than they would if they were held back by a sick body. You love your job… and feel guilty about it? Let's talk about that. I recorded this episode years ago, but after so many recent conversations with working moms, I realized this truth hasn't changed: sometimes the guilt isn't about leaving your kids…it's about loving your work. In this episode, I unpack why that doesn't make you a bad mom, what's really driving that guilt, and how to start thinking differently so you can actually enjoy both your career and your life at home - without constantly second-guessing yourself. In this episode, we unpack: Why guilt isn't about time—it's about what you believe is “right” or “wrong” The difference between traditional mom guilt and guilt from enjoying your career Why work often feels more rewarding (and why that's completely normal) Four powerful reasons it's okay to love your job—even more than motherhood sometimes Practical mindset shifts and journaling exercises to release guilt for good Work with me: Ambitious & Balanced: www.rebeccaolsoncoaching.com/ambitiousandbalanced Download the Daily Kickstart: www.ambitiousandbalanced.com/daily-kickstart References: Listen to Freedom from mom-guilt in 3 steps: www.rebeccaolsoncoaching.com/16 Study ref: https://www.techtimes.com/articles/64911/20150704/working-moms-now-more-socially-acceptable-says-study.htm

If you've ever struggled with how to set boundaries without feeling guilty, this episode is for you.In this solo episode of Empowered With Gina, Gina breaks down how to stop people pleasing, say no with confidence, and build boundaries that actually stick. She challenges the idea that boundaries need to be explained, justified, or approved by others. Instead, she reframes boundaries for what they really are: decisions. Clear, non-negotiable standards for what you will and won't tolerate in your life.Gina dives into why over-explaining weakens your boundaries, how inconsistency keeps you stuck, and why other people's reactions are not a reflection of whether your boundary is right or wrong. She also addresses the uncomfortable truth that some people benefit from you having no boundaries at all, and why their pushback is something you need to expect, not fear.If you've ever felt guilty for saying no, struggled with people-pleasing, or worried about being judged for choosing yourself, this episode will reset your mindset.Boundaries aren't about pushing people away. They're about finally choosing yourself.
Today, let's dip into the world of mindset to talk about something I see come up over and over again as most CEOs grow their staging business. Not strategy, not pricing, and believe it, not even systems. It is guilt. And not in the way you might think. I am talking about the guilt that creeps in when you try to step back, when you hand something off to a capable team member you trained really well, and then you become what I can only describe as a weirdo lurker. Checking in, hovering, making sure it all got done. Sounds familiar? In this episode, I share my own experience delegating, how I thought I set my little bird free and then very much did not, and what I eventually understood about why. I have found the thing about guilt that nobody really talks about: it is not a character flaw and it is not a sign something went wrong. It is a signal, pointing you directly to the belief that has not caught up to where you are going yet. Once you understand that, everything changes and you can be what your staging business needs you to be. What You'll Learn: Why stepping back feels uncomfortable even when your team is fully capable How guilt disguises itself as "being a good business owner" The identity shift every staging CEO has to make as they grow The one question that reveals the belief driving your guilt RESOURCES: Apply for Private Coaching: www.rethinkhomeinteriors.com/privatecoachingapp Enroll in Staging Business School Accelerate Track: www.rethinkhomeinteriors.com/accelerate Join the Staging Business School Growth Track Waitlist: www.rethinkhomeinteriors.com/growth Follow the Staging Business School on Instagram: www.instagram.com/stagingbusinessschool Follow Lori on Instagram: www.instagram.com/rethinkhome If you want to learn how to streamline your operations so you can grow with less stress and burnout in your staging business, enrollment is open for Staging Business School Accelerate Track. If you've ever felt like you're being pulled in two directions—trying to show up fully at work while also wanting to be present at home—you're not alone. So many working moms feel like they're constantly falling short somewhere. You're answering emails while thinking about your kids… or sitting with your kids while your mind is still at work. And no matter what you do, it feels like it's never quite enough. In this episode, I talk with Sarah about what actually helps when you're living in that tension every day. Not unrealistic balance. Not doing more. But setting boundaries that protect your time, your energy, and your relationships—without piling on more guilt. Because the goal isn't to do everything perfectly. It's to create a life where you can actually be present in the moments that matter. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why working parents often feel like they're “failing at everything”—and what's really going on beneath that feeling How to build a “compartmentalization muscle” so you can be present at work and at home The importance of clearly defining and communicating your boundaries (and why most of us skip this step) A simple boundary example—like blocking protected time for your kids—that actually works in real life How technology quietly pulls your attention away (and what to do about it) The powerful shift of saying “no” without overexplaining or apologizing What to do when your boundaries are crossed—or when you didn't realize you needed one until it was too late How the “Sunday List” can reduce mental load and stop tasks from constantly nagging at you What “transferring hours” means—and how to use it to create more flexibility in your schedule Why you don't have to do everything at your child's school to be a present, loving parent Resources Mentioned Sarah's book: The Art of the Juggling Act: A Bite-Sized Guide for Working Parents Learn more about your ad choices. We all feel guilt at some point in our lives, and for all kinds of reasons. It seems natural to feel guilty for what we've done, or not done, or should be doing. But can guilt be good for us? Chris Moore, the author of “The Power of Guilt: Why We Feel It and Its Surprising Ability to Heal,” tells us why he thinks guilt has an "image problem.”

First it was Me Too. Then it was Time's Up. Now it's time for something new: Me First. In this episode, Laurie introduces what she calls the Me First Movement—a powerful mindset shift for high-achieving midlife women who have spent decades putting everyone else's needs ahead of their own. After years of conditioning to be helpful, accommodating, and endlessly available, many women in midlife find themselves exhausted, resentful, and wondering where they fit in their own lives. The truth? Putting yourself first isn't selfish—it's strategic.Laurie explores why so many women struggle to prioritize themselves, how cultural conditioning and caregiving roles reinforce the habit of self-sacrifice, and why choosing yourself can actually strengthen your relationships, leadership, and legacy. In this episode, you'll learn:Why the instinct to put yourself last is deeply conditioned—not naturalThe difference between “Me First” and “Me Only” (they are not the same thing)How prioritizing yourself actually improves your relationships and family dynamicsWhy waiting for the “right time” to pursue what you want is a dangerous mythTwo simple challenges you can try this week to begin shifting into Me First modeThis isn't about abandoning the people you love. It's about finally including yourself in the equation.Because midlife isn't a holding pattern—it's your opportunity to launch the second half of your life with intention, clarity, and courage.
We talk a lot about wanting to keep every connection forever... but what if the real shift happens when we stop treating "moving on" like a crime and start seeing it as a requirement for our own evolution? In this episode, we're getting honest about the heavy, often silent transition of outgrowing friendships and navigating the constant identity shifts of your 20s. From the guilt that eats at you when you realize you no longer "click" with certain people to the bittersweet truth that some relationships are meant to be a season, not the whole story—this is a reminder that choosing your growth doesn't make you a bad person. If you've ever felt like you're "the villain" for needing more than your current circle can give, or if you're struggling to let go of a version of yourself that no longer exists, this episode is for you. With Love, Mafe.Go to https://beacons.ai/imissedmeand check out all of I Missed Me.Check out my personal socials belowhttps://beacons.ai/mafeanzuresOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Shopify: https://shopify.com/mafeanzuresAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

You said yes. And the second the word left your mouth, you knew you meant no.Maybe you felt it in your stomach. Maybe you smiled and said of course and spent the next three days quietly dreading it. And then, because this is the part nobody talks about, you felt guilty for even having a limit at all.In this episode, we will get honest about why so many of us don't set boundaries even when we know we should, and why the guilt we feel when we finally do isn't evidence that we did something wrong. It's evidence that we're changing a pattern. Those two things feel identical from the inside. But they are not the same.I will share a personal story about what it actually costs to keep saying yes to everything, and the moment that made it impossible to keep pretending the pattern wasn't a problem. Then we will break down the guilt loop: how it works, why it's so hard to interrupt, and what it takes to hold a line without burning a relationship to the ground.Feeling guilty doesn't mean you did something wrong. It means you're changing a pattern. And different, even when it's necessary, is always going to feel uncomfortable before it feels right.IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: → Why we don't set boundaries even when we know we should→ What a boundary actually is — and what it isn't→ The identity behind the always-available pattern — and how to update it→ The guilt loop explained: how to recognize it and interrupt it→ The resentment diagnostic — how to find exactly where you need to start→ Five scripts for: family asks, one-sided friendships, the mental load, pushback after a no, and protecting personal timeDownload the 5 scripts here: https://real-talk-scripts.lovable.app/Subscribe to the Morning Brew: https://leadingyourself.myflodesk.com/mondaybrew

Parenting can be one of the most meaningful – and most challenging – roles we’ll ever have. But what if the key to raising emotionally healthy children isn’t about fixing our kids… but about understanding ourselves? In this powerful conversation, Dr Jodi Richardson sits down with world-renowned clinical psychologist and bestselling author Dr Shefali, often described as Oprah Winfrey’s favourite parenting expert and the pioneer of the Conscious Parenting movement.Dr Shefali shares how traditional parenting models rooted in control, fear, and perfectionism can unintentionally disconnect us from our children – and how a conscious parenting approach can transform not only our relationships with our kids, but also our relationship with ourselves.Together, Jodi and Dr Shefali explore:Why parenting is not a talent but a skill we cultivateHow our children can become mirrors for our own healingThe hidden pressure parents place on themselves to be “perfect”Why awareness and presence are the first steps to conscious parentingHow to repair after conflict and strengthen connectionWhy the most important work of parenting is actually raising our own inner childIf you’ve ever felt guilt, overwhelm, or the pressure to get parenting “right”, this episode is a powerful reminder that perfection isn’t the goal – growth and awareness are.Dr Shefali will also be visiting Australia for two special live events where she’ll dive deeper into conscious parenting and how it can transform families for generations.Learn more about Dr Shefali and her work:https://www.drshefali.com/Tickets for Dr Shefali’s Australian events:https://www.ticketmaster.com.au/dr-shefali-tickets/artist/3755409 If this conversation resonates with you, share it with another parent who might need the encouragement today. In this episode, Frankie Tortora and Steve Folland have a chat in response to a question from Jon Richards — graphic designer at Goodness By Design. He says: “How do I stop feeling guilty about not working during 'working hours'? I've been freelancing for over 15 years, but until last year it was always alongside a part time 9-5. So this is the first time I've been fully freelancing and I'm noticing a lot of guilt around when I'm not working. If it's a weekday and within 'normal' working hours, I feel like I should be doing client work, marketing or something. But as a creative, sometimes I'm just not in the right mood. Someone suggested recently that this might be a hangover of working in a 9-5. One of the main drives to go freelance was the flexibility it would bring. So I guess my question is, how can I get better at giving myself permission to do things like, go to Bristol for the day, visit an art gallery or just watch a film, when my head isn't in the right place to work? Do you ever have the same feeling?” Let us know your thoughts on Instagram and Linkedin. People who have strong spiritual practices tend to be very empathetic people. And when others are suffering sometimes we feel guilty when we have risen above and found practices and tools to create a good life. But life is for learning. And if you did your inner work and are out of the realm of suffering it is your destiny to feel joy and happiness. Instead of feeling empathy it is compassion that is being called for when looking at the lives of others. It is time for you to feel harmony, peace, and ease in your life as you do your inner work. If you don't have boundaries - or you're not holding to the ones you set - you're giving your power away. The belief that you can't be a good person AND have boundaries is a lie that's keeping you stuck. The discomfort of holding your boundary is temporary. The resentment of crossing your boundary lasts way longer. It's time for an honest conversation about how to stop abandoning yourself to keep everyone else comfortable so you can start living in a way that feels authentic to YOU. As Christians, we don't have to be afraid of books that don't match our faith. But sometimes? It's really nice to read stories we can enjoy without compromise. After the huge response to my recent episode on SFF Books That Don't Hate Christianity, you all flooded the comments with recommendations. So today I'm back with FIVE ranked sections of Christian-friendly fantasy and sci-fi — from lesser-known gems to major Christian SFF staples, to surprising TBR discoveries… and even a few big-name titles I'm honestly embarrassed I didn't mention last time. From The Wingfeather Saga and Ted Dekker's Circle Series, to A Canticle for Leibowitz, The Holy War, The Dresden Files, and many more — this list spans centuries, genres, and styles.Whether you're looking for explicitly Christian fiction or stories that simply take faith, morality, and redemption seriously, there's something here for you.We love all kinds of SFF here at Fantasy for the Ages. But today's episode is about the ones where you don't have to tilt your head at 30% to find the beauty.

POST-WAR REFLECTIONS AND REGRETS Colleague Evan Thomas. In the war's aftermath, Henry Stimsonretired feeling guilty, fearing that scientific progress, exemplified by the bomb, had outpaced human morality. General Spaatz was similarly haunted by his role in killing civilians, with his granddaughter recalling him moaning in his sleep. Conversely, Shigenori Togo, despite being sentenced to 20 years in prison, died with a clear conscience knowing he fought for peace. Thomas concludes by noting that Togo remains largely unhonored in modern Japan, a nation that remains ambivalent about its responsibility for the war. NUMBER 8 1945 OKINAWA
