The MTN8 conclusion was highly entertaining and full of drama, with a dodgy penalty decision, a red card, and all the makings of an intense finale. The final saw Orlando Pirates end their six year trophy drought with a 2-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic, to capture the first piece of silverware available this season. Orlando Pirates started their campaign with a 1-0 win over Cape Town City, before humiliating neighbors Kaizer Chiefs 5-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals. In the SL Podcast’s latest episode of the Fan Reaction Show, Bucs fans discuss their long wait for silverware, with their previous triumph having come in 2014 when they won the Nedbank Cup. Since then, Pirates have struggled despite coming close to trophies, having finished second on the Absa Premiership table in back-to-back campaigns under then-coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević in 2017/18 and 2018/19. Pirates fans stated “We are very very happy, it’s been long overdue, the players showed us the most fight since the days of Lucky Lekgwathi”

Arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs are set to battle out at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, with another interesting game back in the mother city between Cape Town City and Chippa United. For some pre-game analysis, the Editor of Soccer Laduma Vuyani Joni joins Sara-Jayne King on Weekend Breakfast. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Mamelodi Sundowns have recently confirmed the signings of highly-rated defender Khuliso Mudau from Black Leopards, and Cape Town City forward Kermit Erasmus who netted 13 times in the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season. The two join a long list of new arrivals at Chloorkop for the defending champions who have already added the likes of golden boot-winner Peter Shalulile, former Bidvest stars Gift Motupa & Ricardo Goss amongst others. While they will be competing in four different competitions (DStv Premiership, MTN8, Nedbank Cup & CACL), some have suggested that their spending is excessive. It is no secret that Masandwana have a large transfer budget, and while they have earned criticism over the years for their expenditure, sentiment seems to have changed over time. In the latest episode of the SL Podcast's “Fan Reaction Show”, some supporters have actually defended Down's spending, with one fan stating “if you have the money, why not sign good players”. Naturally, Sundowns still have their critics, with many arguing that they make the league “less competitive” by signing every team's best talents. Listen to the full podcast using the player above. Edmilson Dove was given a trial by fire when he made his pre-season debut for Cape Town City FC in 2016 and had to defend one of the nation's most talented wingers. Dove spoke on SL Radio's 'My Starter Pack' about how he had to adjust to South Africa's brand of football. In his interview, he details how Thembinkosi Lorch caused him problems in a friendly match before the start of the 2016/17 Absa Premiership season. “I remember we had a friendly match before my PSL debut, [it was] against Chippa when Lorch was still playing there. I think that's the guy that gave me nightmares in that friendly match, I said ‘alright, welcome to South Africa Edmilson Dove'. The tempo of the game was just insane, it was something that I wasn't used to, you know? In my country, we don't have as fast players as you have here in South Africa, and also the quality of the pitch allows the ball to travel [quickly].” Soccer Laduma Radio
