Manchester United has successfully finalized an agreement to acquire Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans after activating a £35 million release clause in his contract. This unexpected deal advanced swiftly after United's intended £35 million transfer for Atalanta midfielder Éderson fell through due to a medical concern identified during his assessment. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided his signature "Here we go" confirmation for Tielemans, who has opted for the Old Trafford project over other competing offers. The 29-year-old Belgian international is set to undergo his medical examination tomorrow.United triggered a specific £35 million (€41m) release clause, facilitating straightforward negotiations despite Aston Villa's hesitance to part with the player. In the meantime, Tielemans rejected a new contract proposal from Aston Villa as well as other external offers, demonstrating a strong inclination to play under manager Michael Carrick.Tielemans experienced a minor hamstring injury during the warm-up prior to Belgium's World Cup quarter-final loss against Spain. However, the injury is not considered long-term, and United anticipates that he will be prepared for pre-season training. He is included in a significant summer midfield overhaul by Carrick following the departure of Casemiro and a serious knee injury to Manuel Ugarte. This agreement coincides with the same day that United completed and officially announced the £48 million signing of midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

The statement from South Africa's Minister of Sport, Gayton McKenzie, addresses the unexpected and tragic death of Jayden Adams, a midfielder for Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns, who passed away at the age of 25.His death was confirmed on July 11, 2026, occurring just weeks after he played a pivotal role in his nation's remarkable journey during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.Adams participated in all three group-stage matches, contributing to South Africa's advancement to the knockout phase of the World Cup for the first time in history. Earlier that year, he celebrated victory in the CAF Champions League with the prominent domestic club, Mamelodi Sundowns F.C.McKenzie disclosed that Adams competed while enduring profound personal sorrow during the tournament, taking to the field against the Czech Republic mere hours after receiving the news of his grandmother's passing. His body was found at a residence in Cape Town, leading local authorities to initiate an investigation. A definitive cause of death has yet to be established, and officials have requested privacy for his family during this difficult time. Tributes have been received from around the world, including messages from the South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In this episode I'm joined by Kaya Kaynak to talk about Arsenal's pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes who has told Newcastle he wants to leave to join the champions. It has all the hallmarks of a protracted saga, so we examine it from all sides, and try and work out what this deal might cost in the context of other central midfield transfers this summer and in recent seasons. There's also discussion of our other CM options, why selling Ethan Nwaneri might be consequence of spending big on other players, William Saliba's reported ongoing back problems and how much that might impact what we need to do defensively in the transfer market, as well as a look at the World Cup, Mikel Merino's vital goal for Spain, England and Norway facing off with lots of Arsenal interest there, and lots more besides.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. The long wait is over as Galway United finally make their debut in Pearse Stadium this evening (Friday, 19th June 2026) when they host Derry City in the SSE Airtricity League Men's Premier Division. John Caulfield's team have already taken four points off the Candystripes in two prevous outings this season, but still find themselves four points behind their opponents, even if United have two games in hand. They've also traded wins regularly with one occcasion being in Eamonn Deacy Park back in 2009 when Galway United won 3-1 thanks to goals from Cian McBrien, Aaron Greene and Jason Molloy. Cian McBrien played for Galway United between 2007 and 2010 as well as representing his home club Salthill Devon, and Mervue United. He joined Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly to look back at his United career and look ahead to the game against Derry City. == Kick-off at Pearse Stadium is 7.45pm and we'll have LIVE coverage on 'Over The Line.'

Spurs' biggest gap isn't up front, it's the controller in midfield. Enya Collins ranks the five players who could fix it. After calling Van Hecke and Bohoya before either link broke, Enya turns to the deep-lying playmaker Tottenham haven't had in years. The five: Nico Gonzalez, Alex Garcia, Manuel Loccatelli, Angelo Stiller, Adam Wharton — and why one of them might quietly be the right answer over the obvious pick.
