This week we focus on the long-running court case following the death on the pitch of Martins Chineme in Nigeria. A court case found Nigeria's leading football bodies to be negligent for the death of Chineme, who had heart issues, and global players' union Fifpro says it's a landmark ruling. Also we look back at the drama of last weekend's CAF Champions league semi-final second legs, with Sundowns of South Africa knocking out holders Al Ahly to set up a final against Pyramids of Egypt. And with Liverpool winning the EPL title, Stuart asks how good the team is.
Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando pirates drew nil all in their CAF Champions League semi-final matches played against Egyptian sides, Al Ahly and Pyramids respectively. The Pretoria giants failed to take home advantage in Loftus Versfeld Stadium while the Buccaneers were rescued by the Video Assistant Referee at the FNB stadium. Meanwhile Stellenbosch FC will TODAY make their debut in continental club competitions when they play Simba FC of Tanzania in Zanzibar in another CAF Champions League first leg, semifinal fixture. The Agents Angle - The World's Premier Football (Soccer) Agent Show
'The Agents Angle' is joined by Football Finance 'guru' and co-host of the 'Price of Football' podcast Kieran Maguire, with his expert insights, thoughts, and observations on the football agent world from a finance perspective - as well as how new football finance matters affect agents. As many football seasons around the world come to a close, and with the imminent opening of many football 'transfer windows', the so called 'silly season' begins with much speculation and rumour. So with this, 'The Agents Angle' examines whether the involvement of agents in transfer strategy for clubs distorts the transfer system. Plus, the show investigates whether an increasing involvement of agents in the recruitment of managers and coaches by clubs may prompt concerns for unhealthy 'conflicts of interest'. Whilst one agent reportedly 'pockets' 1 million from Lionel Messi's signature on a napkin, another coach and agent find themselves in dispute with a club over a contract signed hurriedly in a hospital car-park. Mamelodi Sundowns' search for continental glory came crumbling down LAST night after the they lost 1 -nil against Tunisian giants Esperance in the second leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final played at Loftus Versfelfd Stadium in Pretoria LAST NIGHT. Esperance went into the game with a slender 1-0 lead from the first leg in Tunis last weekend. Esperance will go head-to-head in two legs of the final against two time champions Al Ahly next month. There is however a silver lining for the Brazilians as they have qualified for the World club championship.. Sebenzile Nkambule spoke to Janet Whitton, SAfm Sports Anchor
In the second leg of the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League, Esperance de Tunis and Al Ahly put in mature performances and managed to qualify past TP Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns went down 1-nil against Tunisian giants Esperance in the first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final played in Tunis LAST NIGHT. The two clubs are battling for a place in the final of the Champions League in a two-legged affair. The return leg will be played at Loftus Versfelfd Stadium in Pretoria, next Friday. On top of that -- Sundowns and Esperance are also fighting for a place in next year's revamped FIFA Club World Cup. Sebenzile Nkambule spoke to SABC Sports Analyst Mathews Mpete for reflections of the game...........
During the first leg of the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League semi-finals, Esperance de Tunis nullified Mamelodi Sundowns' attacking threat and managed to win by a goal at home. Meanwhile Al Ahly left Lubumbashi with a nil-nil draw
We're into the final four of the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League and so this episode of the African Five-a-side podcast delves into a preview of Saturday's matches between Esperance de Tunis and Mamelodi Sundowns and TP Mazembe versus Al Ahly.
The second leg of the quarterfinals of the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League took place on Saturday evening as TP Mazembe travelled to Luanda to take on Petro and Esperance travelled to Abidjan to take on ASEC Mimosas. The Congolese and Tunisian champions came away victorious on the evening and now set up juicy quarterfinals against Al Ahly and Sundowns in two weeks' time.
Friday night's two matches had very different tones. While Tanzania's Yanga pushed AFL champions, Mamelodi Sundowns to the brink, their compatriots, Simba, couldn't muster up the same fight vs Al Ahly of Egypt. In this episode we discuss the general ideas of idealism versus pragmatism and if Sundowns are fit to overcome mental hurdles
We take a look at the action from the Easter weekend with CAF Champions League where Sundowns took on Yanga from Tanzania. We also delve into the United Rugby Championship where the Bulls where looking to secure a home knockout game as well as the Premier League with the title race heating up.
The draw for the 2024 CAF Champions League took place a couple days ago, and so we finally have our quarterfinal matchups. We take a preliminary look at each of the matches and give our thoughts.
Bafana Bafana are continuing to show their courage and prowess after they beat Cape Verde in their 2023 African Cup of Nations quarter-final match-up. The game went all the way to penalties after the regulation time of 120 ended goalless. Cape Verde took the first spot kick which saw Captain Ronwen Williams pull out a miraculous save. The 32-year-old's heroics did not stop there as he ended up saving 4 out of Cape Verde's 5 penalties. Bafana Bafana ultimately overcame Cape Verde 2-1 via a penalty shootout. On the latest episode of the Fan Reaction Show, Mzansi reacts to Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundown's goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and his 2023 AFCON heroics and discusses whether or not he could make it to Europe! The fans also break down Bafana's performance against Cape Verde and wish Hugo Broos and his team luck against Nigeria. SL Radio on SoccerLaduma.co.za
Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Tiyani Mabunda joins us as we look back at the success of the club in 2023 having won the DSTV Premiership and Africa Football League. We also look at the success of the Ladies team that have gone on to win the CAF Women's Champions League, the HollywoodBets Super League as well as the COSAFA Cup and being named the CAF Women's team of the year.
In this episode of the African Football Roundup we recap the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Africa and outline some of the good we saw as well as some of the bad.Egypt, Senegal and South Africa displayed reasons for optimism. Egypt under Rui Vitoria are one of Africa's most coherent sides, Senegal have a new midfield pairing with Pape Matar Sarr and Lamine Camara - that's not fair. And with the Sundowns boys, are Bafana back? The bad comes from West Africa. Nigeria come away from the qualifiers with just 2 points in 2 matches, while Ghana look a bit stale under new coach Chris Hughton. Despite their recent win versus Madagascar, we think they might struggle to make the 2026 World Cup in the Americas.
Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs faced off once again in the Soweto Derby with the Buccaneers going into the match as favourites considering the turmoil which Chiefs are going through. Multiple changes of coaches and technical teams, lack of will up front, and lacklustre defenders proved too much for Chiefs as Pirates won thanks to a single goal by Evidence Makgopa. Kaizer Chiefs need to go back to the drawing board if they wish to turn things around. Mamelodi Sundowns became the first-ever champions of the African Football League (AFL) after they overcame a 1-goal deficit against Wydad Casablanca. Rulani Mokwena and his team showed their class by beating the Moroccan giants 2-0 on the day, and 3-2 on aggregate. Sundowns have now bagged a cool $4 million which will only mean one thing - Sundowns will get better and better. On the latest episode of the Fan Reaction Show, Mzansi reacts to the latest Soweto Derby which saw Orlando Pirates Beat Kaizer Chiefs in their DStv Premiership clash. The MTN8 final has come and gone, with Orlando Pirates walking away with a second consecutive title. The Buccaneers were able to keep Mamelodi sundowns out for 120 minutes, forcing the game to go to penalties. The Buccaneers would have had a few shaking nerves, considering the last penalty shootout they took part in; they lost to Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy. Masandawana were not clinical from the spot, with Orlando Pirates winning 3-1. On the latest episode of the Fan Reaction Show, Mzansi reacts to Orlando Pirates beating Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 on penalties to claim a second consecutive MTN8. The fans analyse the teams' performance and comment on the officiating. SL Radio on SoccerLaduma.co.za

A look back at the MTN8 1st leg seminfals where Chiefs and Sundowns played out to a draw and Pirates won away at Stellenbosch. We dive into an analysis of Arsenal's win over Manchester United and the post match revelations of Erik ten Hag regarding Jadon Sancho
Kaizer Chiefs are welcoming Mamelodi Sundowns to the FNB Stadium during their mouth-watering matchup. Kaizer Chiefs seem to be slowly finding their form under new head coach Molefi Ntseki, whereas Mamelodi Sundowns are looking stronger than ever, after claiming maximum points during their 5 Dstv Premiership fixtures. The last time the glamour boys managed to beat Masandawana, was back in 2021, when Chiefs won 2-1. Molefi Ntseki needs to be brave, and courageous and bring some innovation if he wants to overcome a powerhouse in Mamelodi Sundowns. The last time Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC met, the Buccaneers went down 1 goal to nil, with the team from Cape Town grabbing all 3 points in their Dstv Premiership matchup. Pirates have been in hot - goalscoring form and they will be looking to capitalise on any mistakes which Stellies may make. Stellenbosch are hoping to continue their run of good form. In recent days, breaking news hit the airwaves with Thabo Cele ‘agreeing personal terms' with Kaizer Chiefs. The 26-year-old has spent close to a decade plying his trade in Europe where he is currently playing for Polish outfit Radomiak Radom. Chiefs are currently still in negotiations with the Bafana Bafana midfielder but there could be light at the end of the tunnel. The 2023/23 Dstv Premiership season gets underway on 4 August with Mamelodi Sundowns beginning their title defence against Sekhukhune United. Are we in for yet another Masandawana masterclass, or will we have a new PSL champion this time around? Teams have ‘beefed' up their squads and teams will be looking to start strong with a victory. On the latest episode of the Fan Reaction Show, Mzansi gives their thoughts on the 2023/24 Dstv Premiership season as they hope a new team will be crowned PSL champions. We'll share our insights, predictions and thoughts on the impact these transfers will have on the upcoming season. 1. General Transfer Market Review Very busy window Players coming from all over the world - Ghana, Brazil, Venezuela etc Players transferring to all over the world - Morocco, Romania, Israel etc No big squad overhauls like last season - releasing players (AmaZulu, Kaizer Chiefs, Sekhukhune Utd) Kennedy Mweene (Sundowns) retiring? Won literally everything in South Africa with Sundowns Continental champions for club & country 5 times in league match day squad last season - no appearances 2. Lot's of coaching changes as well. 6 teams already have a coaching change - 2 more changes will see half the league make coaching changes How does a coach (Pablo Franco Martin - AmaZulu) adopt to a new league - ambitious club like AmaZulu? How does that affect an old player/new player? What formation does a coach prefer? Can a player play in that formation? Some coaching travel with their pieces Signings are like a jigsaw puzzle Individual pieces must fit together and the system works 3. A trend - the popularity of wide-forwards. The PSL's big three teams Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have all invested differently this off-season, but one area they all doubled up on is wide attackers. Coincidence or tactical evolution? Lesiba Nku & Junior Mendieta at Sundowns Pule Mmodi & Tebogo Potsane at Chiefs Katelgo Oltadisa & Patrick Maswanganyi at Pirates What do they bring? Types of wide player Unlockers - Mmodi / Otladisa / Mount, Neymar Wide goal threat - Saleng, Mendieta / Salah, Mbappe Outlet - Saleng, Mendieta / Grealish, Sancho + other metrics on a wide-attacker radar... 4. What could that mean tactically? General trend has been Less 4-4-2, more 4-3-3, and other formations Advantages & disadvantages of 2 & 3-man mids. Moremidfielders=retain&advancepossession Moremidfielders=lessdefenders? CF must be able to hold up play without a strike partner (and partner with wide players). Moregoalsfromotherpartsofthefield? WhattypeofpassesshouldbeplayedtoCF(flatpasses=morecontrol) Will we see more goalkeepers play out from the back (instead of hoofing to a target man who loses the ball immediately) Lesslongballsasameansofballprogression(Sundownsontheup?) Coach Rulani speaks about his time with Sundowns so far, his trip to watch the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul, the role of society in the ever-changing world of football, why he uses his goalkeeper so high up the pitch, playing with a diamond shape, why his team press invertedly rather than forcing the opposition outside, learning from other top managers across the globe including Fernando Diniz and Pep Guardiola, while also having a wider discussion about trusting the process and the future use of AI in football. It's a long one, but you'll certainly learn a lot from Rulani! Please leave a five-star rating on the podcast if you enjoyed!
