The lads unpack a massive weekend of finals rugby as the Northampton Saints are crowned champions of England and Leinster go back to back! We get stuck into how Saints proved they're more than just razzle dazzle, grinding out a proper final win over a very good Exeter side, with George Hendy coming up clutch yet again and Henry Pollock continuing his takeover as the main character. Hendy joins the pod from a beer garden fresh from the celebrations to talk through the win, the party, and George Furbank's fairytale Saints send-off . We also head to Croke Park, where Leinster absolutely blew the Bulls away to go back-to-back in the URC, with Sam Prendergast putting in a statement performance, Handre Pollard having a night to forget and some big Ireland injury worries coming out of it. Plus, there's chat on Leo Cullen's future, England XV's strange outing against France, the Boks battering the Barbarians, Super Rugby chaos and loads more. In this episode, I'm opening a three-part series called Leaders Are Readers with a summer reading list on one of the most important topics for any leader to understand: POWER.This episode is about three books that have genuinely stayed with me because they changed how I think about leadership, influence and power.I share why Barbarians at the Gate is one of the best business books of our time, what The Powers That Be reveals about media, politics and public opinion, and why Dune is far more than a science fiction epic. These books are not obvious personal development books, but they are deeply relevant for leaders. They show us how power actually moves through business, institutions, politics, culture, story, conflict and human psychology. If you've ever:• wanted to become a more original thinker• felt bored by generic leadership books• wanted to understand how power really works• been fascinated by ambition, greed, media or mythology• wanted a summer reading list with depth and intelligenceIn this episode, we cover:• why leaders are readers, and how reading gives you a genuine edge• the brutal corporate power battle behind Barbarians at the Gate• how The Powers That Be exposes the relationship between media and political power• how Dune explores power through politics, religion, ecology and internal conflict• why unconventional books can teach leaders more than traditional business booksThe books we remember are often the books that change the way we see the world. These three stayed with me because they each reveal something different about power, and once you see it, you can't unsee it.Books mentioned:Barbarians at the Gate — Bryan Burrough & John HelyarThe Powers That Be — David HalberstamDune — Frank HerbertYou can find out more about working with me at www.kayaramjee.com

Springbok season is finally here, and Rassie has wasted no time giving us something to argue about. Phil and Ant unpack the first Bok and SA A squads of the year, from a backline full of baby Boks to the surprise selection of Quan Horn at flyhalf. Is SA A becoming rugby's version of passport control? Which youngsters are most likely to force their way into the conversation? And just how excited should we be about Siyaya, Pead, and the rest of the next generation? Elsewhere, the Bulls prepare for another trip to Dublin and another crack at Leinster, while Super Rugby reaches its climax with the Hurricanes and Chiefs set to battle it out for the title. The boys also take a brief detour into the Barbarians squad, questionable football red cards, and the terrifying possibility of American-style ad breaks making their way into rugby. Springbok season is back, the rugby calendar is packed, and Ant somehow still finds time to complain about scheduling and soccer. Nature is healing. Music by @monstroid, 80s TV Show.

FIFA Barbarians 26: The World Cup Team FIFA ForgotShould FIFA create a World Cup Barbarians team for future men's and women's tournaments? In this special episode of By Far The Greatest Team, we take one of football's most ridiculous ideas and, naturally, start treating it far more seriously than we probably should. What if FIFA held back one slot at future World Cups for a Barbarians-style football team — a mixed squad made up of players whose nations failed to qualify, players left out of final squads, and the great talents the tournament simply does not get to show? No, not to replace national teams. No, not to steal anyone's place. But to give football's biggest tournament one more story.Welcome to the FIFA Barbarians 26.Using our own selection rules — players must either come from nations that failed to qualify or have been left out by countries that did, with a maximum of three players from any one nation — we build a fantasy squad good enough to make FIFA's marketing department reach for a whiteboard. There are elite goalkeepers denied the stage. There are defenders from Italy, England and beyond. There are midfielders with Premier League power, Champions League class and World Cup heartbreak. There are forwards who would terrify most international back lines. And yes, there is a manager. A very particular manager. We name-drop, argue over, and eventually select from players including Jan Oblak, Donnarumma, Ramsdale, Matty Cash, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harry Maguire, Alessandro Bastoni, Sandro Tonali, Dominik Szoboszlai, Foden, Palmer, Kvaratskhelia, Bryan Mbeumo, Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Robert Lewandowski, João Pedro and many more. But who actually makes the final XI?Who gets squeezed out by the three-player-per-nation rule? And which manager is trusted to lead football's most chaotic tournament experiment? That is where the fun begins.TakeawaysWhy a World Cup Barbarians team might be a ridiculous idea FIFA should actually take seriouslyHow players from failed nations and major squad snubs could form a genuine elite sideWhy modern football, fantasy football culture and global fandom make this idea more relevant than everThe case for including a Barbarians team in future men's and women's FIFA World CupsThe rules behind our FIFA Barbarians 26 selection processWhy the missing-player pool is much stronger than it first appearsHow the three-player-per-nation rule creates some brutal selection callsAnd why this is not just a fantasy XI — it is a proper football argumentIf you love football history, World Cup debate, fantasy XIs, classic tournament stories, tactical arguments, forgotten stars, cult heroes, and slightly absurd ideas taken far too seriously, this one is for you.Follow By Far The Greatest Team for more football history, legendary teams, forgotten sides, cult heroes, World Cup stories and the search for the greatest football team of all time.If you enjoy these podcasts, please don't forget to subscribe and give us a rating and also tell everyone about them!

On August 24, 410 AD, the Visigoths walked into Rome. They didn't break down the gates. They didn't storm the walls. The gates were opened from the inside — by slaves, by people who had been living under the Empire for years and had quietly stopped believing in it.The conventional story of the Sack of Rome is barbarian invasion. Fire and screaming. Civilization ending in a single night. That's the Hollywood version. The reality is quieter and worse.Rome wasn't murdered. It was hollowed out over more than two centuries by three forces that had nothing to do with barbarians. The first was money. The silver denarius had been debased so consistently that by 410 the coins were essentially worthless metal stamped with the emperor's face — a promise nobody believed anymore. Soldiers stopped showing up because they were being paid with garbage. Tax collectors demanded payment in gold and silver because the state's own currency wasn't worth taking. The second was borders. On the last day of 406, the Rhine froze and tens of thousands of Vandals, Suebi, and Alans walked across into Roman Gaul. The forts along the river were empty or close to it. The garrisons had been pulled back, stripped to fight civil wars in Italy, or simply never replaced. The frontier wasn't overrun. It was abandoned. The third was power. The Emperor Honorius was hiding in Ravenna — a swamp city with marsh walls — issuing laws that nobody enforced. When they told him Rome had fallen, he thought they meant his pet chicken, a bird he had named Roma. He had become emperor at eight years old. He had never led an army, never governed a province, never made a decision that wasn't filtered through palace bureaucrats more interested in their own survival than the Empire's.When Alaric's Visigoths arrived at the gates of Rome in August 410, the city's own slaves opened them.Rome didn't fall that day. Not really. The Visigoths left after three days. Honorius stayed in Ravenna. The Empire limped on for another 66 years. But everyone who mattered understood what 410 meant. The machine had been failing for centuries. The sack was just the paperwork catching up.Empires don't fall. They hollow out. And hollowing is worse than falling — because from the outside, everything still looks intact.00:00 — Rome Wasn't Murdered, It Was Hollowed Out01:54 — Welcome to The Roman Pattern02:19 — Rome in 410: A Theater Set03:06 — Two Centuries of Debasement05:15 — December 406: When the Rhine Froze06:53 — Alaric: The Visigoth Who Wanted to Be Roman08:16 — Honorius and His Chicken Named Roma09:10 — August 24, 410: The Gates Open From Inside10:29 — Saint Jerome Wept in Bethlehem11:50 — Why Rome Didn't Fall (Yet)12:44 — The Three-Link Chain: Money, Borders, Power14:02 — Hollowing Is Worse Than Falling14:53 — The Universal Pattern15:55 — Same Playbook, Different Century

The Politburo had given Mao Zedong's personal physician Li Zhisui a direct order: prepare the Chairman's body so that he can be on permanent display. Li was aghast. It was not what Mao had wanted, and besides, “How to pickle your country's leader” wasn't one of the courses he studied in medical school. But after the turbulence of the Cultural Revolution, Mao's death meant a potential political showdown between the Gang of Four, including Mao's wife, Jiang Qing, and Mao's chosen successor, Hua Guofeng. Dr. Li did not want to be caught in the middle. So Li and his team did the best they could. Spoiler alert: it involved a massage that nobody would want to give. Li Zhisui's controversial memoir, The Private Life of Chairman Mao, was published in 1994. Readers were titillated by Mao's sex life, questionable hygiene regime, and gruesome medical maladies. Defenders of Mao labeled the book pure propaganda. Dr. Li was a disloyal liar, and his collaborators and publishers were pushing anti-Mao agendas. Jeremiah is joined by Alexander Boyd, Associate Editor of the China Books Review, to discuss Mao Zedong, Li Zhisui, and Jeremiah's recent retrospective essay about The Private Life of Chairman Mao. Who was Dr. Li? What did it take to survive in the courtyards of power at the peak of Mao's paranoia? And did Dr. Li really witness all of the major events he described in his book?

We find ourselves on an island with Paul, stranded with Barbarians. He was the same person no matter where he went, because he was confident that what he believed was true. How confident are you?
Debt is burdensome and being obligated to another is a constant weight on one's shoulders. But there is one great exception, according to the apostle Paul. That exception is the debt of love. As Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones notes in this sermon on Romans 13:8–10 titled “Love Fulfills the Law,” Paul calls the church to be perpetually obligated in their love for one another. Paul himself was likewise indebted to all: to the Greeks and Barbarians and both to the wise and the unwise. He had the medicine in the gospel that they needed and this meant he was under obligation to share it. Paul expects nothing less from the church. The church in Rome, as well as the church today, are in a constant state of debt to one another. But Dr. Lloyd-Jones warns that if one thinks love and law are at odds with one another, then they have misunderstood the Bible. It is an abuse of the law – by the Pharisees, moralists, and in legalism — that is at odds with Paul's thoughts on law and love. The law begins with the negative, but God's commandments ultimately have a positive effect. In other words, “love is the fulfilling of the law.” Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones provides insight into this beautiful synthesis of law and love.

Funny Cold Open We start this episode debating Canadian healthcare, accidentally invent sad wrestling, and somehow end up analyzing a Barbarian whose main power is crying so hard enemies die. Honestly, that tracks for Unearthed Arcana. Show Notes We dive into the latest villain-themed Unearthed Arcana subclasses and immediately get distracted by the Path of Lament Barbarian. The idea of a rage-fueled warrior powered entirely by emotional devastation is way too funny for us not to lean into, especially once we realize the subclass is actually pretty solid at crowd control. We spend a lot of time imagining a Barbarian loudly sobbing while enemies desperately try to escape the situation. From there we move into the Warrior of Venom Monk, which gives us poison powers, battlefield control, and several opportunities to question Wizards of the Coast's relationship with poison immunity. Once we notice the subclass can swap poison damage into acid damage, things get considerably more interesting and considerably more ridiculous. Finally, we tackle the Primordial Patron Warlock, a subclass we have wanted for a long time. The elemental flavor is fantastic, but the mechanics leave us scratching our heads as we try to figure out whether the subclass wants us in melee, casting spells, or standing inside our own fireballs. By the end, we mostly agree the concept rules even if the execution still needs work. Key Takeaways Path of Lament Barbarian gives Barbarians strong crowd control and fear effects Banshee's Wail delivers reliable area damage and fits the subclass theme perfectly Warrior of Venom Monk has cool control tools but struggles with poison immunity issues Acid conversion mechanics help salvage many of the Monk's features Primordial Patron Warlock has great elemental flavor but awkward mechanics Elemental Node feels too central to the Warlock subclass without being exciting enough Elemental Transmutation looks like the standout new Eldritch Invocation The subclasses have strong themes overall, but several mechanics still need refinement Welcome to the RPGBOT Podcast. The Crisis of the Third Century didn't destroy Rome in a single moment. It took 50 years — and ordinary people had to survive every one of them.We imagine collapse as fire in the streets. Barbarians at the gates. An empire ending overnight. But that's not what happened. For the people living through it… it didn't feel like collapse. It felt like life getting a little worse… every year. The money stopped working. The borders stopped holding. The government stopped functioning. And ordinary Romans had to adapt. In this episode, we break down the Crisis of the Third Century — not from the perspective of emperors, but from the people who actually lived through it.→ What happens when your currency becomes worthless→ How inflation destroys everyday life→ Why taxes increase during collapse→ How cities empty and local systems take over→ Why people trade freedom for survival→ How networks, skills, and community determine who makes itRome didn't fall all at once. It adapted downward. And the people who survived weren't the strongest. They were the most flexible. This is the Roman Pattern. And if it feels familiar… it should.
You ever go to Vegas for “work” and accidentally turn into a socially awkward casino goblin with access to steak money? Yeah. That's this episode. In Episode 101 of your favorite daily comedy podcast, the crew welcomes KC95's Tim Virgin into the early-morning chaos while Riz breaks down his 48-hour Vegas sprint — which included flying Southwest (girth battle included), getting rescued from a questionable hotel by a hero friend with standards, and discovering that Fremont Street is basically a live-action fever dream with zip lines and Chippendales. But that's just the warm-up.Riz attends a record label convention where Linda Perry performs, AI panels nearly induce a coma, and radio is once again declared “dead” for the 47th straight year. (Spoiler: it's not.) Tim Virgin delivers an intro so epic it basically resurrects the room, and Riz uses his moment on stage to yell at record companies for sending drummers to interviews. Lead singer or we riot. Then comes the emotional rollercoaster:Riz meets Jacob from Sublime… and immediately shuts down like a Windows 98 desktop. He reflects on sitting next to Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen on a plane without saying a word.He realizes he may be wildly successful… and still socially broken. And then… redemption.Riz stumbles into a showcase for Barbarians of California (AWOLNATION's side project) and actually loves it. Like, downloads-it-immediately loves it. There's hope, people. Also:Slot machines hit. Twice.$1,200 up.Rib cap steak that changed his life.Four Mai Tais at a tiki bar.Zero regret. One extremely positive Monday. This episode of The Rizzuto Show delivers everything you expect from a daily comedy podcast — celebrity near-misses, industry chaos, gambling wins, sarcastic life advice, and Tim Virgin absolutely thriving in morning radio madness. If you like funny show energy, entertainment gossip, weird news vibes, radio insider stories, and watching grown men try to process their emotions through steak and slot machines… congratulations.
