033. Breathing For A Better Engine, Oxygen Training With Adaptive Contrast - Owen Monroy

The Hacked Life

In this week's podcast, I interviewed Owen Monroy, the founder of Oxygen Rally in Walnut Creek, CA at The Human Optimization Center. Owen has a background coaching collegiate volleyball, but felt like he wasn't living his true purpose. Owen is a Human Potential Coach, a biohacker, and has extensive knowledge in health/wellness, but felt like being a volleyball coach limited his ability to truly create change within the environment and people he was directly impacting. So, instead he left and went on to create his own fitness program using oxygen training with adaptive contrast therapy at the center. We talk all bout this therapy and why it has so much impact on athletes as well as just regular people. The type of oxygen training Owen utilizes works as the user must be moving or working out at the same time they are receiving the oxygen. Owen then puts the user in a hypoxic state temporarily or at altitude. This sends signals to the body that they need to produce more oxygen in order to keep moving at the same pace. Then, Owen will have the user switch to a super saturated state, pushing oxygen deep into the tissues. This type of training is great for respiratory fitness, brain health, detoxification, fat-loss, immune readiness and anti-aging. Owen has had people with chronic headaches and neck pain say to them that only after three sessions, 15 minutes each, their pain has subsided and went away. I actually did a 15 minute session with Owen at his studio and found it to be one of the best workouts I've ever done, and I hate doing cardio and rarely do it. Not only was it fun, but I felt euphoric after completing the session, and the best part was it only took 15 minutes. Owen has also started a GoFundMe page, where he's donating all the proceeds to firefighters, who's lungs and respiratory health are compromised on a daily basis. Did you know that 70% of line-of-duty deaths for career firefighters are Cancer related. It is hardly surprising that this high risk was anchored by lung, mesothelioma, oral, esophageal, large intestine, and kidney cancers. Now, YOU can get three FREE sessions with Owen and the Oxygen Boost Training, and donate three sessions to a first responder. It's a huge opportunity to rejuvenate your lungs WHILE helping firefighters recover from intense exposure to fire retardant chemicals and toxic smoke exposure. This week during some of the worst air quality the SF Bay Area has seen my friends at Oxygen Rally launched the Firefighter Lung Recovery Fund and are inviting the community to invest in personal respiratory health while supporting lung recovery for firefighters.Guys, not only was Owen a wealth of knowledge, but he's just a good human and he wants to serve in a big way. I was honored to have interviewed him, but more importantly the friendship we created afterwards.Timeline9:02 - How Owen got started with Oxygen Rally11:41 - How adaptive contrast therapy works14:58 - What is EWOT training16:00 - How are clients benefiting?23:20 - What is happening on a biological level to the user during a session30:57 - Why you might experience a detox reaction after a session38:15 - How EWOT differs from HBOT?45:28 - is this good for TBI's and concussions?47:54 - Owen's new project with First Responders and how you can help56:00 - Metabolic testing and why it's such valuable data1:03:07 - Owen's other project breath lab.io1:08:20 - why Owen finds nasal breathing to be so vitally important 1:16:30-1:19:55- i think diving into the breath, end: what engine do you want

Our third episode of Q&A is here! Here are the questions asked and any relevant links: Tom, do you think using the TBT (total body trainer) and incorporating my arms in the aerobic exercise will deliver more oxygen to those areas than having them in a resting position as I pedal with my legs? (Listen at 01:42 - 06:00) Ben Menafee podcast Keiser Total Body Trainer Ben's shared spreadsheet Will LiveO2 help my sex life? (Listen at 06:03 - 13:04) Can you address Northern California fire detox? They are burning us down and don't plan to stop. How could the AC™ system be best used to support people's detox from the fires? Can you also speak to the nature of toxins from the fires that are burning hotter than wildfires (burning stuff like tires and metals and porcelain)? (Listen at 13:17 - 32:54) Adaptive Contrast™ system Detox protocol Blessed Herbs Quick Silver Scientific *Tom tip: best time for an herbal cleanse is Spring or Fall! How does LiveO2 Adaptive Contrast compare to Hyperbaric oxygen therapy? (Listen at 33:00 - 45:44) Read: LiveO2 vs. Hyperbaric I wanted to share something with you about using my LiveO2 system. I watched a podcast about nose breathing during exercise and I decided to try it while doing my LiveO2 workout. It took a while to get comfortable with it - I would sometimes exhale from the nose but got used to it.After a bit I noticed I felt remarkably relaxed even when the O2 levels were low. I felt relaxed after...normally I am little hyped up.  When done, I decided to use my heart variability tester to verify how relaxed I was. It was amazing, I was completely balanced with my nervous system even after just exercising. Best session to date! Curious if you have tried it and had the same result? (Listen at 46:00 -  53:13) Buteyko breathing Wim Hof method *Tom tip: Our nose is there for a reason - to breathe! The mouth is designed more for eating. I haven’t used my Live02 the last month or two. And I noticed that the two times I used it this week that my pulse ox wasn’t going down that much when I was on -O2.  It would maybe go down to 95 and then trickle back up to 97 even after a couple of minutes. Is that weird? (Listen at 53:15 - 1:00:09) Contact us about your protocol - maybe it's time to level-up? Scott Stapleton of Keiser podcast (HIIT training) I am looking at foot surgery for arthritis and was wondering if AC will speed up the healing process? (Listen at 1:00:10 - end)

What makes LiveO2 systems different than our competition? In this podcast episode we're joined by Engineer Mike who designs, prototypes, and tests LiveO2 systems parts. He's the king of R&D here at LiveO2! Mike sheds some light on very important distinctions between LiveO2 and other EWOT systems that may be a bit cheaper, but are not actually quality products designed with your health in mind. Here's what you'll learn in this episode: Why the switching mechanism on the Adaptive Contrast™ makes a difference How our parts were designed and why we didn't go to a local hardware store to buy parts for our systems The origin of our Adaptive Contrast system design (hint: founder, Mark, was trying to solve his own problem) Why we use clean materials and the results of our air tests for contaminants Why our system is more like "bamboo" instead of "oak" - a look at our reservoir design How we learned to honor how the body works and how this compares to our competitors' flawed methodologies How we control resistance in our systems (you have to have resistance to improve) What the purpose of the nose (and nose hair!) is Why "work capacity" = health What Engineer Mike's Rx for health is!

You know the numbers — you can go without food for three weeks, without water for three days, and without oxygen for just three minutes. With such a clear and constant need for oxygen, it is surprising that the oxygen debt many of us live with every day isn't addressed more in fitness culture. This episode is a conversation with Tom Butler, vice president at LiveO2 Adaptive Contrast Oxygen Therapy. Tom earned his bachelor's degree in environmental science at Virginia Polytechnic and his master of science in Oriental medicine at Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder, Colorado. The positive effects he experienced from his very first exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT) session convinced him this was something he needed to tell people about. [Note: For the complete set of show notes, links, and contact info, head to https://www.wholelifechallenge.com/podcast] An incredible ability to recover from workouts, the jump in his energy level, and a 30% improvement in his VO2 max all made Tom a believer. If you are curious about the effects of chronic oxygen deprivation on your tissues, performance, energy level, and chronic inflammation and disease risk, be sure to tune in to this episode of the WLC podcast. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you enjoy the podcast, please subscribe.
