Is your body running on broken engines? We often obsess over what we eat, but we rarely think about how our cells process that fuel. If your mitochondria (the engines of your cells) are dysfunctional, it doesn't matter how perfect your diet is—you will feel tired, you will recover slowly, and you will age faster. In this episode, we sit down with Brad Currier, a PhD in muscle physiology and scientist at Timeline, to discuss Urolithin A—the breakthrough molecule that acts as a "recycling program" for your cells. Brad reveals why natural food sources are virtually impossible to rely on (you'd need to drink 1.5 liters of juice daily), how this molecule compares to fasting for longevity, and the shocking data coming out of studies with Olympic athletes. In this episode, you will learn:The "Junkyard" Theory: Why mitochondrial dysfunction is the root cause of low energy and poor recovery.Mitophagy Explained: How to trigger the selective breakdown of "zombie" mitochondria to build fresh, healthy ones. The Pomegranate Reality Check: Why you can't eat your way to therapeutic levels of Urolithin A (and the sugar cost of trying).Fasting vs. MitoPure: The difference between "global" starvation (fasting) and "surgical" cellular repair.Olympic Secrets: How elite runners are using this specific protocol to lower perceived exertion and muscle damage. The Future of Longevity: How this impacts not just muscle, but skin, immune health, and cognitive function.Timeline Mitopure Gummies: GET 20% Off Now!

Parenting a child who goes from calm to chaos in seconds can feel exhausting. You try everything—deep breaths, gentle words, even walking away—and still, the meltdowns come. You're not alone. When kids struggle with big emotions, there's often a hidden root cause inside the body—and minerals play a much bigger role than most parents realize. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Aaron Hartman to unpack the powerful connection between minerals, mitochondria, and meltdowns—and how nutrition, lifestyle, and nervous system regulation can help your child regain balance and calm. Why does my child melt down when they're “just tired or hungry”?When your child seems to unravel at the smallest thing, it's not bad behavior—it's biology. Mineral imbalances directly affect how their nervous system fires.Low magnesium or zinc deficiency can make the brain more reactive to stress. When blood sugar drops from skipping meals or eating too many processed foods, the body burns through nutrients fast—leading to irritability, anxiety, or panic attacks.A deficient diet full of additives and low in whole foods affects serotonin, dopamine, and other key neurotransmitters. When we calm the brain first and nourish the body, meltdowns start to fade.Takeaway: A balanced diet rich in real food, protein, and calming minerals helps stabilize your child's emotions and energy.Need quick relief while you work on those root causes? Try Quick Calm—my proven method to calm the brain fast so you and your child can reset and start fresh.Could my child's mood swings be linked to mineral deficiencies?Absolutely. Research continues to show how essential minerals affect mental well-being and brain function. Here's what parents need to know:Zinc deficiency is linked with attention deficit disorder (ADD/ADHD), depression, and poor immune function.Magnesium supports relaxation and sleep by calming overactive neurons.B vitamins and vitamin D play a critical role in serotonin production—affecting mood and focus.Too much copper or exposure to heavy metals can worsen anxiety, aggression, and brain fog.HTMA testing (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis) can reveal these hidden imbalances, helping you target the root cause instead of chasing symptoms.

Every so often, I have a conversation that stays with me long after the recording ends — not because it's dramatic, but because it quietly shifts how I understand the body and the brain. This episode is one of those conversations.Today on the Kick Sugar Coach Podcast, I'm talking with Dallin Hardy, a biochemist from Hardy Nutritionals, about something most of us were never taught: how deeply the brain and our mitochondria depend on micronutrients to function well, and what happens when those nutrients get depleted. (And best of all, how 60 peer-reviewed studies show we CAN replenish them. This interview will tell you how.)Dallin has a gift for translating complex biochemistry into everyday language. He shares the story behind their well-known formula, Daily Essential Nutrients, why researchers keep studying it, and what he sees every day working with people who are rebuilding their mental health from the inside out.Episode HighlightsWhat happens to energy (ATP) production when micronutrients are lowHow to dramatically improve mitochondrial function Why sugar depletes the body of needed nutrients and how to replenish themHow micronutrients can improve ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder, stress, and sleepThe unexpected findings in pregnancy and infant developmentIf you've ever felt like your energy, focus, or emotional resilience wasn't matching the effort you're putting into your health… this episode offers a different way to look at it. Sometimes the body isn't malfunctioning. It's just missing what it needs. I think one graphic in particular, where Dallin details all the micronutrients needed to produce clean, efficient energy in our cells, will take your breath away. It did mine.*Click here to watch the slideshttps://youtu.be/5547H6I4WYQ?si=ojtSyd4JHBOcx6dDEnjoyed this episode? I receive a lot of health questions about how to remedy various debilitating conditions. One of the more concerning questions I receive frequently is regarding kidney failure. Why is there an epidemic of people with failing kidney function? It comes down to mitochondria dysfunction. Instead of focusing in one one study like most health educators do, my goal with these short shows is to paint broad strokes and cover the entire subject from a birds eye view all the way down to the mitochondrial level. Most importantly, as I cover various health conditions in future episodes, I will focus very heavily on the solutions, citing research and mechanisms to back up each of the proposed supplements or protocols. In the case of the kidneys, it comes down to one protein: mitochondrial transcription factor A, or TFAM. When that critical protein inside mitochondria in your kidneys becomes deficient, energy production falls and tissue function decreases, hence, kidney failure. It always comes back to mitochondria. Send us a textIntegration of brain metabolism with neural signaling, highlighting how core metabolites regulate energy use and protect neurons.Topics Discussed:Brain energy efficiency: Brains are much more energy-efficient than computers for similar processing, relying on adaptive metabolic strategies evolved under energy scarcity.Metabolism vs. information processing: Core metabolites like glutamate bridge basic cellular energy production and neural signaling.Lactate as a signal: Produced during exercise, lactate diffuses from muscles to brain, modulating neuronal excitability and providing neuroprotection.BHB in ketosis: During fasting or ketogenic diets, beta-hydroxybutyrate displaces glucose as fuel, enhances antioxidant defenses, and activates protective potassium channels in neurons.Adenosine and sleep: Accumulates from ATP breakdown during wakefulness, triggering sleep and locally inhibiting overactive neural networks for energy conservation.Glial cells' role: Astrocytes and oligodendrocytes handle sophisticated metabolism, release signaling molecules like lactate, and modulate synapses, and influence diseases like Alzheimer's.Practical Takeaways:Regular exercise elevates lactate, which signals the brain to adapt metabolism and may enhance neuroprotection against stress.Intermittent fasting or ketogenic diets can induce ketosis with BHB, potentially boosting brain antioxidant defenses and preconditioning against metabolic stress.Prioritizing sleep helps clear adenosine buildup, restoring energy balance and supporting long-term neural health.About the guest: Dr. Luis Felipe Barros, MD, PhD is a Chilean neurobiologist and professor at the Universidad de Valparaíso, where he leads a lab studying brain metabolism from glucose transport to mitochondrial function.Related Episode:M&M 255 | Unlocking Energy: How Nutrition & Drugs Impact Your Mitochondria | Chris Masterjohn*Not medical advice.Support the showAffiliates: Lumen device to optimize your metabolism for weight loss or athletic performance. Good morning, everyone! In this powerful and eye-opening episode, David DeHaas from Living Waters Wellness Center—where miracles begin by healing from within—dives deep into one of the most vital yet misunderstood parts of the human body: the mitochondria. These tiny powerhouses inside every cell are what keep your heart pumping, brain thinking, and body thriving. But when your mitochondria become damaged or sluggish due to toxins, constipation, and inflammation, your energy plummets, and disease begins to take hold.Today's show is all about understanding how your mitochondria and inflammation are connected—and how you can take control of your body's natural healing power starting from the inside out. Most people focus on symptoms, but David reveals that true healing begins at the mitochondrial level—inside the tiny power plants of your cells. When your colon and small intestine are congested, nutrients can't reach your cells, toxins can't escape, and your mitochondria lose the energy to keep you healthy. This leads to oxidative stress, free radical damage, and inflammation that impact your brain, heart, and immune system.Through colon hydrotherapy, you can clear out toxins, restore nutrient flow, and recharge your mitochondria—igniting natural healing from within.David also explains:How glucose becomes ATP, your body's energy fuelHow antioxidants like Vitamins C & E fight aging and oxidative stressWhy mitochondrial health drives brain clarity, heart function, and vitalityAnd how cleansing and nutrition restore your body's natural energyIt's not just about feeling better—it's about healing your mitochondria and eliminating inflammation so your body can thrive again. If you're tired, inflamed, or feeling drained, it's time to start healing at the cellular level. Dr. Jacob Israel Liberman is a pioneer in the fields of light, vision and consciousness, and the author of Luminous Life: How The Science Of Light Unlocks The Art Of Living, Light: Medicine Of The Future, Take Off Your Glasses And See, and Wisdom From An Empty Mind. Originally trained as an optometrist and vision scientist, his life changed in 1976 after the miraculous healing of his own eyesight, leading him to a deeper understanding of light and the science of life. Having helped countless individuals recover their eyesight, he began to understand the words of Jonathan Swift, “Real vision is the ability to see the invisible.”Last week, Dr. Liberman explained how consciousness often affects our outlook and way of life whether or not we allow the diagnosis to define us or to allow us to figure out our next steps. He focused on telling stories of his experiences training optometrists about light and vision, and how it has transformed his life for the better. This week we learn of how light and different hues of color affect our health. This involves not just the presence of light but as well as complete darkness. Dr. Liberman and Dr. Lara also dive into how the perception of light even to those who don't have sight matters as it affects more than just vision such as our biological clock, how different parts of our body respond, and If you wish to learn more from Dr. Jacob Liberman, you may do so through the following channels:Website: https://www.jacobliberman.org______________________________________________________Keep yourself up to date on The DNA Talks Podcast! Send us a textMitochondrial fatty acid synthesis is a little-known but essential pathway that supports energy production and metabolic health.Summary: Dr. Sara Nowinski explains how mitochondria not only burn fuels to make ATP but also synthesize their own fatty acids inside the matrix; this conserved pathway produces lipoic acid (an essential enzyme cofactor) and longer-chain fats required for proper assembly of the electron transport chain, and disrupting it impairs respiration, glucose handling, and insulin sensitivity while enhancing it appears protective against obesity and heart injury.About the guest: Sara Nowinski, PhD is an assistant professor in the Department of Metabolism and Nutritional Programming at Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where since 2021 she has led a lab focused on mitochondrial biology and the mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis (mitoFAS) pathway.Topics Discussed:Basic mitochondrial energy production: food → pyruvate/fatty acids → acetyl-CoA → TCA cycle → electron transport chain → ATPMitochondrial fatty acid synthesis (mitoFAS): a bacterial-like pathway that builds fats on an acyl carrier protein inside the matrixLipoic acid: an 8-carbon fatty acid made only by mitoFAS, covalently attached to key enzymes (e.g., pyruvate dehydrogenase); cannot be rescued by supplements for cofactor useLonger mitoFAS products (14–16 carbons) stabilize electron transport chain assembly factors, explaining why pathway loss collapses respiration even when lipoic acid is intactKnocking out mitoFAS causes embryonic lethality, insulin resistance, poor glucose homeostasis, and a rare neurodegenerative disorder (MEPAN syndrome)Overexpressing the mitochondrial acyl carrier protein protects mice from diet-induced obesity, insulin resistance, and cardiac injuryMuscle cell differentiation fails without mitoFAS, hinting at a role in tissue development and repairPractical Takeaways:Supplemental lipoic acid can act as an antioxidant but cannot replace the lipoic acid your mitochondria must make themselves for enzyme function.Severe impairment of mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis is linked to insulin resistance and metabolic disruption, suggesting mitochondrial health (beyond just biogenesis) matters for glucose control.Lifestyle or future therapies that boost overall mitochondrial function (e.g., exercise via PGC-1α) may indirectly support tSupport the showAffiliates: Lumen device to optimize your metabolism for weight loss or athletic performance. Brand New episode! What if the missing link in your recovery isn't another supplement or stretch, but energy at the cellular level? We sit down with Dr. Zulia Frost—medical doctor, researcher, and co-founder of Recharge Health—to unpack how photobiomodulation, neuromodulation, and sound can help your body heal faster, perform better, and sleep deeper without side effects.Zulia's story is a powerful one: a devastating car accident, spinal fractures, and paralysis in her right leg. Conventional care saved her life, but it was targeted red and infrared light, gentle nerve stimulation, and a disciplined movement routine that rebuilt it. She explains in plain language how red and near-infrared wavelengths interact with mitochondria to increase ATP, release nitric oxide, and open blood flow—key steps that reduce pain, accelerate collagen repair, and restore function in joints and muscles. We compare sunlight to devices, discuss why consistent dosing matters, and reveal why wearable, skin-contact designs can deliver a reliable, high-intensity dose where you need it most.Get 10% off on FlexBeam at www.ChampionsMojo.com/FlexBeam and enter championsmojo as a coupon code at check out. Pain lives in the nervous system as much as in tissue, so we dive into neuromodulation for endorphin-driven relief and layer in sound therapy to shift brain waves toward calm. She also offers simple, science-backed habits—consistent bedtimes, a few minutes of morning red light over the chest or abdomen, stretching before the day's load, and brief walks—that support circadian rhythm, gut health, and resilience over time. I provide science-based tools that support your lymphatic system for the sake of health and appearance, including: how to reduce fluid retention in your limbs, trunk or face, how to eliminate 'bags' under your eyes and brain fog, and how to improve cardiac health and longevity. Because your lymphatic system lacks a central pump, it needs the mechanical forces generated by specific types of bodily movement, breathing and pressure to circulate your lymph properly, and I explain how you can activate these. I also explain how to support optimal functioning of your glymphatic system, a brain- and spinal cord waste-clearing system active during sleep that is crucial for brain functioning and longevity, including to prevent dementia.
