The Animal Kwackers look like a group of bank robbers who went to a fancy dress shop that was going out of business. Or a Banana Splits tribute act who hated the Banana Splits. Or the physical embodiment of some lost lyrics from "I am the Walrus." It's been the talk of the internet for weeks, but this week, Paul and Eli finally give their opinion… On what the hell those unknown flavours are in the Dairy Milk Mystery Bars! There are two bars to investigate, both very different in flavour profile, which is hard enough to figure out without Paul creating a new, deeply annoying, character. Will this new cheeky chappy break Eli or will he succumb to his charms? Elsewhere in the episode, a Silverman's Platter and a Gannon's Golden Games segment smash into each other when the cheap chaps have a quick look at the “Animal Kwackers” music album. You know, for kids! It's an oddity of a platter but one that quickly gets ignored in favour of creating a new jingle and arguing over the point of musical copyright. Oh CheapShow! Sigh. Did you miss me? This week, I'm joined by actor, novelist, and musician David Duchovny. David is about to release his third album “Gestureland”, and was kind enough to talk to me about it. We discuss transferring skills across art forms, the energy of inexperience vs having learnt your craft, as well as the pros and cons of long-term creative partnerships. It's a good one! Also on the show, I welcome my dear friend Peter Eden. Peter was an A&R guy in the 60's who branched out into the role of producer. He played a pivotal part in the early career of Donovan, and went on to produce records by John Surman, Bill Fay and more. He was also the brains behind the 70's children's TV series “Animal Kwackers”. Enjoy! Twitter: @signalspodcastInstagram: @sendingsignalspodcast
First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on June 6th 2021 Episode thirty five of VISION ON SOUND finds regular guest contributor PAUL CHANDLER returning to talk about his passion for those pop bands who were primarily manufactured for television programmes. So we talk about cartoon bands such as The Archies, and Josie and the Pussycats (In Outer Space!) - as well as briefly considering the cartoon variants of The Jackson Five and The Beatles - and briefly ponder upon those puppety television icons Pinky and Perky. We discuss the whole strange phenomenon of costumed bands such as Animal Kwackers, The Banana Splits (including their appearance in a Horror Movie), and The Wombles - adding a slight touch of credibility by segueing into memories of Gorillaz, KISS, and, um, Lordi. The more human end of the scale is covered by our conversation moving on to The Monkees, The Partridge Family, and Flintlock, alongside S-Club-7 and the Spielbergian possibilities of Supergrass, before we move on to the more recent era and shows like The X Factor and its ilk. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.
After a visit to a podcast studio that's not quite right, Giles, Paul and Richard discuss two stories with half man, half bull creatures - The Horns of Nimon and The God Complex. It's a treat for Richard, as it's the first time he's ever seen Horns, almost 40 years after he unaccountably failed to watch its broadcast. As well as determining that there's a lot more in common between these stories than you'd think, the team manage to discuss faith, Brexit (again) and Animal Kwackers. (Please) contact us on Twitter on @something_who. The opening music is Three Guitars Mood 2 and the closing music is the worst ever version of the Doctor Who theme from Richard on ukulele and kazoo.
Episode 38 of the 'Round The Archives' podcast (production code RTA038) sees Warren joining us again on the sofa as we remember the work of Freddie Jones in 'The Ghosts Of Motley Hall'. Next, Martin Holmes survives the destruction of the Earth in the first episode of 'The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy. Paul Chandler then tells us the story of 'Animal Kwackers', while Nick Goodman & Jo Bunsell unearth a rare recording of 'They Came From Somewhere Else'. We round off with a return to Motley Hall and, during the course of the podcast, enjoy an assortment of adverts from 1984. Disclaimer : 'Round The Archives' is not sponsored by Ellogg's Orn Lakes, despite the rumours...

Episode 7.10: For the Love of Disco Stormtrooper Helmets In which Mike Royce suffers Birthday Kitemageddon, maintains his negative stance on sockless Blofelds, and expresses his disbelief at the new Justice League ending. Whilst Martin Unsworth preaches Game Of Thrones torrenting restraint, explains what Gene Simmons and George Lucas have in common, and triggers some Animal Kwackers repressed memories. Arron Tierney is interviewed over the For the Love of Sci-Fi event, and STARBURST Issue 440 goes on sale as everyone prepares for the arrival of The Defenders. Writer and director Geordie Broadwater joins Nick and Lars to watch Animal Kwackers, a British live-action / cartoon hybrid from 1976, in which nothing happens. Listen to hear three people become gradually more desperate to find something interesting to say before spinning off on wild tangents that make basically no sense. Topics discussed within include Michael McDonald & Dave Matthews' baby, haunting silhouettes, and Jonny Jonny Jonny Jonny woops Jonny woops Jonny Jonny Jonny Jonny.
