In this episode from Dec 17 2023 - We talk Bills new Happy Texas play ... where Jacques spend a few days in NYC couple week back hanging with Bill as he prepped for the Investors showcase with full cast and music - figure this be a fun time to repost this one. Enjoy ... again. Legendary Film Maker and … Co-Founder of Legendary Pictures, Bill Fay zooms in to chat with Joe, Biff and Jacques … who for reasons we still don't understand has been a close friend and mentor to Jacques for 20 years! The first two film companies Bill worked for out of college went bankrupt … and then he learned to fly a plane to be Hollywood's man on the ground in Africa ... along the way working with folks like James Cameron for (politely putting it) eccentric film maker Rodger Corman to producing such block busters The Patriot and Independence Day with Director Roland Emmerich. Along the way ACCIDENTLY doubling his 24-year-old selves lives saving by making a 3-day investment based on getting to see a sneak preview of Back To The Future Bill (and partner Thomas Toll) created Legendary Pictures in 2000 with a plan for a slate of big budget (largely Superhero / Action) films … Along the way just for giggles … also produced the Hangover (well for giggles and 470m at Box office making it largest grossing rated R comedy in history.) Bill also talks his favorite project, a small indy sci fi horror called Replicate … well favorite project Jacques was an associate producer on. Bill did fly to see Jacques she he was living in Qatar in 2026 … and in Qatar gave college lectures and gave road map to finance minister of how too get their country on the film making map. Bill currently is CEO of Steric Systems – a company that has developed a electronic process of smoothing liquor and spirits at distilleries. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a45uEuVH6jI Steric Systems has grown exponentially over last few years … which leaves very little time for the other new company Bill started with his brother … a Salmon spread they've made for friends and family for years … at a few pound batches at a time … now scaling up (pun intended) to 7500 lbs test with a national food chain retailer. Bill and Jacques now have the stage show rights to the 1999 movie Happy Texas and hope to have a 6 weeks test run (maybe in Seattle) next fall. Jacques finally makes it to SNL … as a guest … sitting in balcony off to the side behind a huge 1K light obscuring 75% of studio from view at dress rehearsal last Saturday night. Truly, one of the greatest nights of his (and Management's) lives. Jacques saw Steve Martin and Martin Short last Friday, then SNL (and SNL after Party with his guest … Friend of the show Bill Fay) on Saturday, then saw Tony V and his son do an amazing show Sunday in Manhattan … did a mic in Manhattan Monday, was at Happy Texas investor read Tuesday … and was back to being a 2nd grade sub teacher in Lowell on Wednesday. Biff is headed to Japan for a “vacation” … is he coming back? Will the Joe-Heads enjoy his stream of consciousness soliloquy at the end of this episode? YES. Yes, they will.
On this week's show, the hosts begin by reviewing Babes, Pamela Adlon's (Better Things, Louie) directorial feature debut starring Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau. Through raunch-comedy and body horror, Babes explores childbirth and pregnancy through a refreshingly unromanticized lens, but does it succeed as a drama? Then, the three switch gears and turn to Interview With the Vampire, AMC's Anne Rice adaptation that's now in its second season. What a weird show! The series–starring Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Eric Bogosian as the titular cynical interviewer–brings the novel's queer subtext to the surface, and is camp in every sense of the word. Finally, the trio is joined by Mikael Wood, the Los Angeles Times' pop music critic to discuss Billie Eilish's latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. (You can read Wood's review here.) Produced with her brother Finneas, Hit Me Hard and Soft offers a new way of thinking about the 22-year-old, and features songs like “Birds of a Feather” and “Lunch,” a fun, lusty track about being into girls. In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, the panel answers a question from long-time listener, James: “What things that you love have you been introduced to by advertising?” Email us at culturefest@slate.com. Endorsements: Dana: This week's endorsement comes with a brag: Dana's daughter is going to Julliard! Through that, they discovered the wonderful documentary, Creating a Character: The Moni Yakim Legacy. Julia: Two clarifications and an extremely sumptuous sweater recommendation. First, the fashion Substacks mentioned on a previous episode were I Want to be Her!, Girls of a Certain Age, and Blackbird Spyplane. Second, a wool sweater from Dana Lee Brown.
3/25/24 From losing track of days while playing cards at the infamous Ding Ho comedy club in the early 80s to being the FIRST comedian to perform at Fenway Park (opening for pal Bill Burr in 2023), comedian and actor Tony V has been a Boston Legend for over 40 years. TOMORROW March 25, 2024 at The City Winery in Boston as part of The Boston Comedy Festival, Tony will be getting his Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing all he has done and means to the City of Boston. If there was a fantasy draft of all the comic greats to come out of Boston, Tony is a first- round pick on everyone's cards. Joe and Jacques saw Tony V and his pal Bobcat at Off Cabot a couple weeks ago and it might have been funniest show they've ever seen (and they see lots of shows!) As an actor, Tony's been in features such as The Town (produced by former CP guest Bill Fay and it premiered also at Fenway) to his BFF's Misfits and Monsters (in which Tony had a full body wax and was painted blue as is the law to play King Neptune) – Tony is also a beloved comedy teacher (just ask former guest Lauren Simms)! And yes, Tony is a Boston comic over 40 so there was lots of talk about Dick Bucks and the word “integrity”. Joe and Jacques (Biff is on IR) chat the passing of a childhood hero, actor Paul Reubens… Pee Wee Herman (a special CP Sideshow is forthcoming.) Rough couple weeks since the last recording as we also morn the loss of our friend (former guest) Woody's dad who was a true 1000% WW2 hero! And also, Sinead O'Connor, who was shunned and essentially ruined her career for calling out the Catholic Church on SNL in 1992. All 3 of these people, true heroes who made the world a better place. Jacques is home in LA and chats seeing friend Ronak and Bill Fay, All Star Tommy, Taylor, Al and rest of FNH crew and chats about his first gig back (at Tao Comedy), Saturday night (aa booked show … thank you Sally Mullins!) Jacques has a few more booked shows courtesy of Sally and other LA pals. Joe's pretty sure (with his connected friends, job ops, stand up ops and weather better for his old broken body) Jacques isn't coming back but Jacques assures him, his wife and other son … and comic books are back there … so most likely he'll be back. Talk parenting tips and parenting failings … Jacques, while proud of his 15-year-old lifeguarding sons summer of maturity … is riddled with shame for not having taught him how to haggle with a used record shop owner in Manhattan. It's a new year, but the same old us. Andrea and Niall kick off 2022 (yes, we did a bonus episode last week but the duo are back) with a sense of rejuvenation and a bag of songs and albums to enthuse about. We are talking albums from Bill Fay, Mitski, Silverbacks and an old 1988 favourite from Womack & Womack. There are songs from Boy Harsher, Last Apollo, Soichi Terada, Pillow Queens, Earl Sweatshirt, The Weather Station and the return of Father John Misty is up for discussion. Plus, the vague return of Reasons To Be Cheerful, and book, film and TV recommends. It's the Nialler9 Podcast 2022 edition! As broadcast January 3, 2022 with plenty of extras for your tank as we start this Year of the Tiger. Happy New Year to all of you, and it's a shame we had to end 2021 with the unfortunate passing of Betty White, who was not just a brilliant actor and comedian, but a trailblazer in showbusiness becoming a producer at a time when a woman doing such things was unheard of. A true gem in the morass of humanity, she will be missed. So, we began both hours with both Katherin Bass & Danno's own unique tributes to the late great Betty White, and then it's two hours of fresh, hot, new stuff, which even at 99 Betty White truly was.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Dolly Parton – 9 to 5Waxahatchee – TomorrrowYot Club – Deer IslandTame Impala – No ChoiceKhruangbin feat Leon Bridges – B-Side (Texas Moon vers)Barry Can't Swim – Everything Is Going To Be Alright Part II (30:03)Shygirl – Cleo at Abbey Roadserpentwithfeet – Bless The TelephoneBig Thief – CertaintyKevin Morby – I Hear You CallingAnimal Collective – WalkerSam Fender feat Holly Humberstone – Seventeen Going UnderPorches – Adore You Part III (58:48)Wiz Khalifa & Snoop Dogg - Young, Wild & FreeMiley Cyrus - Midnight SkySarah Kinsley - The KingEmmy Meli - I am WomanChloe Moriondo - Girl on TVCody Fry - Eleanor RigbyCeleste - Strange Part IV (95:47)Tones and I - Cloudy DayUpsahl - Time of My Life88rising & BIBI - The Weekendboy pablo- wachito ricoKaty Perry - ElectricKaty Perry - ResilientKaty Perry - Harleys in Hawaii

Did you miss me? This week, I'm joined by actor, novelist, and musician David Duchovny. David is about to release his third album “Gestureland”, and was kind enough to talk to me about it. We discuss transferring skills across art forms, the energy of inexperience vs having learnt your craft, as well as the pros and cons of long-term creative partnerships. It's a good one! Also on the show, I welcome my dear friend Peter Eden. Peter was an A&R guy in the 60's who branched out into the role of producer. He played a pivotal part in the early career of Donovan, and went on to produce records by John Surman, Bill Fay and more. He was also the brains behind the 70's children's TV series “Animal Kwackers”. Enjoy! Twitter: @signalspodcastInstagram: @sendingsignalspodcast
