Sarah Engels startet schon früh in der Show.

My Chemical Romance („The Black Parade“), AFI („Dcemberunderground“), Alexisonfire („Crisis“) oder auch Rise Against („The Sufferer & the Witness“) brachten allesamt vor 20 Jahren ikonische Alben heraus. When Your Heart Stops Beating“ (+44) denkt.

Author of the forthcoming book Holding Lightning: The Life, Loves, and Art of Whitney Houston Emily Lordi returns to Pop Pantheon to kick off our special four-part on a pop star known as “The Voice” – perhaps the single greatest singer to ever grace the charts— Whitney Houston. Louie and Emily dig into Whitney's origins in New Jersey, her musical family and first taste of the industry as a teenage model and session singer. Then they discuss her providential link-up with record man Clive Davis, her 1985 self-titled debut album, and first string of blockbuster singles. Next they unpack 1987's Whitney, her infamous appearance at the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards, and finally, her musical pivot towards R&B on 1990's I'm Your Baby Tonight.Join us next week, in which we'll discuss Whitney's 1991 Super Bowl National Anthem, The Bodyguard, and her run of smash movies and soundtracks.Whitney Houston Essentials PlaylistBuy tickets for Main Pop Girls on 2/27 in NYCJoin Pop Pantheon: All Access, Our Patreon Channel, for Exclusive Content and MoreShop Merch in Pop Pantheon's StoreFollow Pop Pantheon on InstagramFollow DJ Louie XIV on InstagramFollow Russ on Instagram Hosted on Acast. Kimmo puolestaan on sukeltanut syvälle tuolien historiaan.

As we approach the 70th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest, it's fun to take a look at how the ESC was viewed just 10 years ago - some songs remain as classic as ever, while some songs aren't nearly as beloved as they once were (cough_Believe_cough). But Graham Norton and Petra Mede give us a rollicking 90 minutes of ESC hits, and we ain't complaining. Jeremy finally counts himself as a denizen of the Forest, Dimitry has strong feelings about one particular winner's return, and Oscar rediscovers an early 21st century gem from France.Watch Eurovision's Greatest Hits here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ceireJeEwwVisit the archived website for the show here: https://web.archive.org/web/20150406071646/http://60th.eurovision.tv/Watch Electro Velvet's pre-show performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iCwAUVTVdMThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6bSicY5EAEgPCQ3NhnB96x The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O'Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. You can't spell Eurovision OR television without vision, so we're taking a look at a few instances of Eurovision appearing on popular TV shows, and popular Eurovision artists appearing in TV commercials. Some showcase the contest better than others, but a universal truth is if you want to parody Eurovision, you've got to use nonsense. Watch your words because the devil knows the power of our words and he will let us use our own words to defeat ourselves. We have to remember it was the power of God's word that created this world we are living in so the word is able to create living things. The bible says a foolish woman pulls her own house down with her own hands. Which is our own words we have to truly watch our words. Thank you for listening to blessed and free 63 where Jesus christ is LordI pray God's blessings into all our lives in Jesus name amen

In this episode of Metalology, the hosts of Metalology discuss the Finnish Metal Monsters that are Lordi. Lordi is a Finnish hard rock and heavy metal band. Formed in 1992 by the band's lead singer, songwriter and costume maker Mr Lordi (Tomi Petteri Putaansuu), Lordi are known for wearing monster masks and using horror elements with pyrotechnics during concerts and music videos. The band rose to fame in 2002 with their hit single "Would You Love a Monsterman?", and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with their song "Hard Rock Hallelujah".Lordi has toured and recorded actively since 2002, and Mr Lordi upgrades the band's costumes and masks for each album. The band has gone through several line-up changes with Mr Lordi being the only consistent member of the band since their foundation. Members of Lordi have stated their desire for their unmasked faces to remain private. However, they have made a number of unmasked appearances in several news outlets. WealthTech in the Weeds is a series covering the broad yet critical path to financial services. The goal is to get together with industry experts and get into the details of building an effective, productive, coordinated, and comprehensive advice system. Comprehensive advice platforms have been a significant development in wealth management. They streamline portfolio management, optimize returns, and enhance investors' financial efficiency. However, implementing these platforms has its challenges. As technology continues to reshape the industry, the lessons and experiences learned from early adopters provide invaluable insights that significantly impact the industry's future and empower investors to achieve their financial goals. In this episode, Jack is joined by Eric Lordi and Martin Cowley. Eric is the Managing Director at J.P. Morgan and has extensive experience in wealth and asset management. He builds modern wealth management systems that deliver better client outcomes and embraces goals-based investing. Martin is the Chief Product Officer at LifeYield and has more than 14 years of experience building comprehensive wealth management platforms. In his role, Martin oversees product strategy for portfolio rebalancing, tax optimization, and retirement income, using LifeYield's API-first product suite to address a wide range of client needs. Martin has worked with numerous firms to help them integrate and optimize their systems for improved user experience and financial outcomes. Eric and Martin talk with Jack about the challenges, benefits, and lessons learned from building comprehensive advice platforms. They dive into the importance of multi-account management, asset location, and tax optimization in improving clients' financial outcomes. The conversation also touches on the operational aspects of implementing these platforms and the need for integration and coordination across different systems. In this episode: [02:25] -The challenges and goals of building a modern wealth management system. [04:27] - Lessons Martin learned during the early days of LifeYield. [06:17] - The dynamics of multi-account management. [09:22] - How LifeYield coordinates and optimizes multiple accounts. [12:50] - Asset location and its importance in generating tax efficiency. [15:55] - How asset location adds tax efficiency across different account programs. [20:05] - The operational challenges of implementing asset location. [22:20] - The three types of withdrawals and how they need to operate. [29:22] - The purpose of tax management systems. Quotes [02:54] - "We're currently in a world where lots of products and programs have been built vertically over time. How do you start to think horizontally from an advisor standpoint? The biggest mental shift is just moving from an account-based structure to a relationship-based one." ~ Eric Lordi [10:17] - "Coordinating isn't just about getting the sum of the parts and then working with them. It's about recognizing that some parts fit together better than others." ~ Martin Cowley [14:08] - "Tax management isn't just tax slots. It's the location and having a machine that is not dependent on underlying trading systems but looks across all these things as holdings that we can score anywhere." ~ Eric Lordi [30:47] - "Everything we've done has to be flexible because we are looking across multiple companies and client firms. It doesn't have to all be stitched tightly on day one. Those walls aren't going to break down overnight. So, we're building little tunnels between the silos." ~ Martin Cowley Links Eric Lordi on LinkedIn Martin Cowley on LinkedIn J.P. Soul is one of those concepts that is often evoked, but rarely satisfactorily defined. In The Meaning of Soul: Black Music and Resilience Since the 1960s (Duke University Press 2020), Emily J. Lordi takes on the challenge of explaining “soul,” through a book that zooms in and out between sweeping ideas about suffering and resilience in Black culture and fine-grained, close readings of individual performances by soul musicians. Rather than centering big musical gestures and major popular hits, Lordi pays close attention to musical practices like falsetto, ad-libs, and false endings to ground her analysis. She focuses on artists that are some of the most recognizable Black singers in the United States such as Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, and James Brown, but she also spends a lot of time with more obscure figures including Donny Hathaway and Minnie Riperton. She ends the book with a powerful contemplation of how the logic of soul, born in the political and social tumult of the late 1960s, still resonates with some of today's most popular women singers. Emily J. Lordi is an Associate Professor of English at Vanderbilt University. The Meaning of Soul is her third book. In addition to her scholarly work, she is an active cultural critic and music journalist published in venues such as Billboard, The Atlantic, and NPR. Kristen M. Turner is a lecturer in the music and honors departments at North Carolina State University. Her research centers on race and class in American popular entertainment at the turn of the twentieth century. Learn more about your ad choices. For the first of our four-part series on the King of Pop, writer, professor and critic Emily Lordi joins Pop Pantheon to help us begin to untangle one of the most knotty legacies in pop history: the story of Michael Jackson. Emily and DJ Louie discuss Michael's extremely strict upbringing, sadistic abuse at the hands of his father Joe, and the creation of The Jackson 5, from playing the Chitlin' Circuit to landing a Motown deal and kicking off one of the greatest single runs in history, beginning with 1969's “I Want You Back.” Next they dig into The Jackson 5's prolific Motown output, the marketing of Michael as a child sensation and how Jacksonmania made the Jacksons into a symbol of post-civil rights promise in America. Finally, they work through the band's rebrand as The Jacksons, their post-Motown work, late '70s comeback and how the group's monumental success set Michael up for solo superstardom. Join us next week for Part 2, in which we will be talking about Michael's early solo work and his breakthrough as a solo star, 1979's Off The Wall.
