In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika discuss episodes ten through twelve of Nina the Starry Bride! In episode ten, Nina tries to convince the king of Galgada to leave Fortna's fate in her hands. She goes so far as to insult the king and enter the tournament arena, where Set and Azure come to her aid. In episode eleven, Set is confined to the white wing after striking an unsanctioned duel with Azure. Hikami sends Nina to meet with Set with poisoned meade and cookies, and Set falls ill. In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana, Chika, and Ravengriim discuss episodes one through three of Nina the Starry Bride! In episode four, Nina and Azure's feelings for one another deepen. In order to protect him, Nina decides to leave for Galgada to fulfill her duty and become their queen.  In episode five, Nina arrives in Bastia and tries to win over the cruel Prince Set. Things escalate as Nina defends Anne, who works for Prince Set, for “stealing” when an aggressive guard captain accuses her, and Prince Set slices Nina across the chest. Despite the dreariness of her circumstances, Nina chooses to smile and steel her resolve. In episode six, Nina wins over the staff in Bastia by putting the aggressive guard captain in his place while Prince Set is absent. The prince unexpectedly kisses Nina despite being hostile towards her thus far. Barry and Abigail discuss Navy Blues by Sloan and sample three Canadian beers: Labatt Blue from Labatt Brewing Company, Moosehead Canadian Lager from Moosehead Breweries Limited, and Life in the Clouds from Collective Arts Brewing.The delightful can art of Life in the Clouds was designed by Joe Boyd.Navy Blues was entered into our Jukebox long ago by Paul Zawacki during our episode Bonus: A Dozen Updates (The Procession Reunion Special). He described Sloan as the Canadian Beatles, comparing One Chord to Another to the White Album (we have officially gone zero episodes without mentioning the White Album!) and Navy Blues to Abbey Road.In preparation for this episode, Abigail listened through Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Love by The Beatles.Revolver is one of Barry's favorite Beatles albums. Later, she would compare the opening couple of notes of Suppose They Close the Door to the opening couple of notes of I Want You (She's So Heavy).Abigail shared that one of the best meals she ever ate was in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, from where Sloan originated. She ate sea-cuterie at Waterfront Warehouse.Barry compared the piano in Chester the Molester to the piano in Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da by The Beatles.We briefly discussed James Taylor's eponymous debut album, which was released on The Beatles' Apple Records (the first non-British artist on the label), was recorded at Trident Studios concurrently with the White Album, and features Paul McCartney and George Harrison on bass guitar and backing vocals, respectively! But Barry had part of the story backward - Something in the Way She Moves inspired the opening line of Harrison's Something, not the other way around. (Coincidentally, Taylor has said he had meant for the song to be called “I Feel Fine,” but that title had already been taken by The Beatles!) We played a little bit of the version of Carolina In My Mind that appears on this debut album - the version with members of The Beatles included. Later, Abigail mentioned that she kept hearing How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You) by James Taylor in I Wanna Thank You.Our word association around “ways to get even” from Suppose They Close the Door led us to 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover by Paul Simon and 50 Ways to Say Goodbye by Train. Kyoko Katsunoma, a struggling teen with a poor relationship with her parents and a history of gang involvement, meets Katsuya Honda, a student teacher on a day she decides to attend school. In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana review episodes fifty-seven through fifty-nine of Fruits Basket (2019)! In episode fifty-seven, we learn about Ren and Akira's love story, and the terrible way Ren treated Akito as a child. When Akira dies, a maid gives Akito a box “containing Akira's soul”. Ren, unaware of what is inside the box, violently attacks Akito to take it from her. Kureno tries to console Akito after another zodiac bond breaks, assuring her she can start over. Akito hurts Kureno in response. In episode fifty-eight, Kyo and Tohru have a difficult conversation about her feelings for him and his past relationship with Kyoko, including him being at the site of her fatal accident. In episode fifty-nine, Tohru helps Akito decide to start over, only to fall from a dangerous height as the ground below her crumbles beneath her feet. Kyo breaks down at the sight of her injuries. In episode sixty, Akito apologizes to Uo for stabbing Kureno, who shows her compassion. Uo and Kureno talk about the future. Yuki and Kyo fight, finally telling one another how they truly feel about each other. Kyo visits his father, who is cruel to him, blaming him for his mother's death.
