Join us as we continue our Psalms of Ascent series with Psalm 127, which tells us that unless the Lord builds the house, all of our labors are in vain. Psalm 127 Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves. Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court. Welcome to the second week of our Ascent Series. Join us as Pastor Stephen brings the word. We hope you are both encouraged and challenged by this message. Tune In. Get your Fill.
2020 has been a year of great stress, loss and uncertainty — but our tears are never wasted with God. Come along on our journey through the Psalms of Ascent as we dive into Psalm 126 — a song which tells us that those who sow in tears today will reap a harvest of joy and laughter in the season to come. Psalm 126 When the LORD brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him. Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people. Our Psalms of Ascent series continues with Psalm 125 — a passage which reminds us that those who trust in the Lord cannot be shaken — both now and forevermore. Psalm 125 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore. The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil. Lord, do good to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart. But those who turn to crooked ways the Lord will banish with the evildoers. Peace be on Israel. We take the next step in our Psalms of Ascent series with Psalm 124 — a song penned by David that reminds us to remember. Sometimes it’s only when we look back to see what God has brought us through that we can truly say: “Lord had you not been on my side, I don’t know where I’d be!” Psalm 124 If the Lord had not been on our side—let Israel say—if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us, they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us; the flood would have engulfed us,the torrent would have swept over us, the raging waters would have swept us away. Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be torn by their teeth. We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Visit our website: ourtuesday.com Follow us on social media: Facebook Instagram Download our free Bible studies!
It’s OK to say we’ve had enough — in fact, scripture encourages us to cry out to God when we just can’t seem to endure any longer. We continue our Psalms of Ascent series with Psalm 123, which tells us to turn to the Lord for mercy in the midst of contempt. As believers, we can rejoice in knowing that our worth is not determined by the pointing fingers of the proud — our ultimate value rests in the supplying, protecting, correcting, and rewarding hands of God. Psalm 123 I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt. We have endured much ridicule from the proud, much contempt from the arrogant. Our 15-part pilgrimage through the Psalms of Ascent continues with Psalm 122 which reminds us to ascend the steps to the house of the Lord and to pray for peace and prosperity within its walls. Join Lanie Beth as she leads us through this Psalm of Ascent that serves as a beautiful reminder that the church is to be a shining beacon in the city center — a place of love, hope and security for all who take shelter there. Psalm 122 I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." Our feet are standing in your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together. That is where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, to praise the name of the LORD according to the statute given to Israel. There the thrones for judgment stand, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels." For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, "Peace be within you." For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity. Visit our website: ourtuesday.com Follow us on social media: Facebook Instagram Download our free Bible studies!
2020 has been quite a journey to say the least — but there’s still more scripture to explore. Join Lanie Beth on a unique 15-part journey through the Psalms of Ascent (Psalm 120-134). This fascinating series will take place throughout the month of December. Today, we continue our series with Psalm 121. In this passage, we’re reminded that our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. 2020 has been quite a journey to say the least — but there’s still more scripture to explore before the year is through. Join Lanie Beth on a unique 15-part pilgrimage through the Psalms of Ascent (Psalm 120-134) which will take place during the month of December and into the New Year. Experience the joy, hope and encouragement of these 15 Psalms this holiday season! Psalm 120 A song of ascents. 1 I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me. 2 Save me, Lord, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues. 3 What will he do to you, and what more besides, you deceitful tongue? 4 He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom bush. 5 Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek, that I live among the tents of Kedar! 6 Too long have I lived among those who hate peace. 7 I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war. "Psalms of Ascent Series", Quiet Time Coaching: Episode 232, Psalms of Ascent overview You have found a daily podcast based on the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134). They are designed to help our hearts and minds being a healthy place while the Covid 19 virus does its worst. “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1–4 NIV11) Each day we will meditate on a verse or two from these wonderful Psalms as we make our pilgrimage from confusion to hope, pain to peace, anxiety to joy. From Kedar to the Temple we have been on a life-changing pilgrimage. What has God shown you? How has he changed you? What can you celebrate today? Please add your comments on this week’s topic. Now you are here, bless God. Our praise is not dependant on our feelings. Praise helps us get our feeling back in the right place - our servants, not our masters, subjugated to God like all things we own. Earlier in the Psalm it is man blessing God, not the roles are reversed. The difference is that man can only give God what he already has, while God’s blessing gives man what he does not have, and makes him what he is not. "Psalms of Ascent Series", Quiet Time Coaching: Episode 228, Psalm 134 overview You have found a daily podcast based on the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134). “A song of ascents. Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD who minister by night in the house of the LORD. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD. May the LORD bless you from Zion, he who is the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 134:0–3 NIV11 The final Psalm of Ascent. We began in Kedar (Ps 120:5) and end in the temple where we bless God and He blesses us. Please add your comments on this week’s topic. We learn best when we learn in community. This provided not only a glistening sheen to their countenance but also would have added a fragrance to their persons and the room. … Oil preserved the complexion in the hot Middle Eastern climate. … Anointment of priests used the finest oil and would symbolise the gifts of God to the people and the responsibilities now laid on their leaders through this ceremony. In Israelite practice anointing was a sign of election and often closely related to endowment by the Spirit." Walton, John H., Victor H. Matthews, and Mark W. Chavalas.
