Bhaktivinoda Thākura explains that the demons Kṛṣṇa kills represent the kinds of anarthas we have that we can overcome, especially by hearing Kṛṣṇa līlā- "śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ hṛdy antaḥ stho hy abhadrāṇi vidhunoti suhṛt satām." Abhadra means inauspiciousness, but if you personify it, you think of those wanton desires within the heart that distract us from devotional service, to be like the demons in Kṛṣṇa's pastimes, of which we know Braja Rasa Bhāvana memorized within one day I remember a few years ago. How would they be killed? Especially by śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ, by the kathā about Kṛṣṇa, it has a special potency to kill those anarthas within the heart. And then Bhaktivinoda Thākura says that the demons that Balarāma kills in the pastimes in Vrindavan and elsewhere are of a slightly different category. He says that they can be overcome especially by following the orders of the spiritual master. This means one should do one's due diligence to be vigilant in following the process of devotional service to overcome these various anarthas represented in Vrindavan by the demons that Balarāma killed. The implication there is that Balarāma expands Himself through the various gurus—the vartmāna pradakśaka guru, the śikṣā gurus, the dīkṣā gurus, and so forth. And there's a way in which these are a lifeline from Lord Balarāma in this world - "naivopayanty apacitiṁ kavayas taveśa brahmāyuṣāpi kṛtam ṛddha-mudaḥ smarantaḥ yo 'ntar bahis tanu-bhṛtām aśubhaṁ vidhunvann ācārya-caittya-vapuṣā sva-gatiṁ vyanakti" (SB 11.29.6). Says Uddhava that "Kṛṣṇa, you're so kind, you manifest in all these different ways." Those manifestations are really expansions of direct expansions of Kṛṣṇa into Balarāma, and Balarāma, then that's His potency. That's why people notice when they take shelter of the Śrī Guru Paramparā, that they feel more equipped to deal with the anarthas, because Balarāma is ready to help. We have to grab on and take his help, and he will smash the heck out of him. But we should position ourselves in such a way that he can assist us. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #balarama #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Nirantara Prabhu - Balarama Purnima - 8-5-09
“When the milk and curd are kept high on a swing hanging from the ceiling and Krishna and Balarama cannot reach it, They arrange to reach it by piling up various planks and turning upside down the mortar for grinding spices. Being quite aware of the contents of a pot, They pick holes in it. While the elderly gopis go about their household affairs, Krishna and Balarama sometimes go into a dark room, brightening the place with the valuable jewels and ornaments on Their bodies and taking advantage of this light by stealing.” (Shrimad Bhagavatam, 10.8.30)

Matt Crawford speaks with author Balarama Holness about his book, Eyes On The Horizon: My Journey Toward Justice. Balarama takes us along as he traces his life journey. The son of a Jamaican father and a Quebecois mother Balarama recounts his time in an Ashram in West Virginia to then returning to Montreal and experiencing racism for the first time. Getting involved in the wrong crowd and then being saved by the CFL Balarama decided that education was going to be his sword and shield to combat systemic racism. Turning then to activism and politics to fight back injustice is just some of what you will find in this incredible story.
“Once Mother Yashoda addressed one of her friends in this way: ‘Nanda Maharaj, the leader of the cowherdsmen, worshiped Lord Vishnu along with me, and as a result of this worshiping Krishna has been saved from the clutches of Putana and other demons. The twin arjuna trees were, of course, broken due to a strong wind, and although Krishna appeared to have lifted Govardhan Hill along with Balarama, I think that Nanda Maharaj actually held the mountain. Otherwise how could it have been possible for a little boy to lift such a great hill?'” (The Nectar of Devotion, Ch 43)
“While taking charge of the calves, sometimes the two brothers played on Their flutes. And sometimes They played with amalaki fruits and bael fruits, just like small children play with balls. Sometimes They danced and made tinkling sounds with Their ankle bells. Sometimes They made Themselves into bulls and cows by covering Themselves with blankets. Thus Krishna and Balarama played.” (Krishna, The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vol 1, Ch 11)

Krishna's major accomplishments: battling a monstrous snake, lifting an entire mountain with the tip of his finger, and...stealing clothes? In this episode, we continue our look at Indian mythology, covering the legends of Krishna's early life, from his birth and prophesy to defeat Kansa, his mischievous and powerful adventures as a boy, his battle with Kaliya, and his love of Radha. We also talk about the nature of love and loyalty, and how Krishna, Rama, and other heroes that we've covered so far follow the Hero's Journey!
