What does it mean to live generously? In this episode of Buddhism for Everyone, we explore the subtle ways we can practice abandoning stealing—not just materially, but in the countless small ways we might take without realizing it, like stealing time, being late, or complaining. Living generously is about cultivating a mindset of abundance and integrity. In daily practice, it means transforming our actions into gifts of kindness, consideration, and fairness. Small, mindful shifts can make a big impact on the way we live and interact with the world. Through Buddha's teachings, stories, and practical tips, we'll uncover how letting go of taking leads to greater peace and joy in our lives.  Him I call a Brahmana, who, in this world takes nothing that is not given him, be it long or short, big or small, good or bad. Whoever in this world Takes nothing not given, Whether it is long or short, Large or small, Beautiful or not, I call a brahmin. 18th Chapter: verse 40, 41, 42, 43, 4440th verse: “Everyone in this world is dictated by these three gunas.”Lord Krishna divides human traits in three areas – sattvic, rajasik and tamasik.A sattvic person is calm and serene even in difficult situations. A rajasik person is swayed by his circumstances. A tamasik person is lazy, confused and deluded. The sattvic person has emotional equanimity. He is not elated in success and he is not devastated in failure. The rajasic person is swayed by success and failure.Lord Krishna discusses these traits because he wants us to combine action with mental equilibrium. Understanding that everything in this world is transient – success, failure, heath and so on – we should develop an attitude that helps us remain in perfect equanimity of mind even in difficult situations. The 41st verse onwards, Lord Krishna discusses four groups of people based on people's innate spiritual qualities (gunas). These four groups are: (1) Brahmana (2) Kshatriya (3) Vaishya (4) Sudra. In Hindu tradition, there were also four stages of human life and four values which guide human life. The four stages of human life are Brahmacharya (student), Grhastha (householder), Vanaprastha (forest hermitage) and Sannyasa (renunciate). Manu Smriti says that when one sees the face of his grandchild, when his face begins to wrinkle and when his hair begins to turn grey, he should retire to a life of hermitage. The four values that guide human life are dharma, artha, kama, and moksha. Kama represents our desires, what we want to achieve. Artha represents the means to achieve those goals. Dharma represents a set of moral disciplines that guide and regulate our pursuit of artha and kama. Moksha represents the highest value in human existence and means liberation from the bondage of samsara.42nd verse: “Who is a brahmana? Lord Krishna lists the following qualities: Shama (control of mind), dama (control of the senses), Tapah (austerities for a higher purpose), saucha (mental and physical purity), kshantih (forbearance), uprightness, jnanam (natural inclination for knowledge), vijnanam (realization), astikyam (belief in the law of karma and doctrine of reincarnation).43rd verse: “Who is a Kshatriya? Lord Krishna lists the following qualities: ambition for power, boldness, fortitude, dexterity, not running away from battle, generosity, assertion of freedom.”44th verse: “Who is a Vaishya? Lord Krishna lists the following duties: agriculture, cattle rearing and trade – an inclination to do business and acquire wealth.” In the midst of earning wealth, the Vaishya may engage in higher duties such as charity. These duties are based on the social circumstances that prevailed when Gita was written.44th verse: “Who is a Sudra? Lord Krishna lists the following duties: not interested in higher values, want to do simple service.”Lord Krishna lists these four groups to represent four levels of human evolution. We can always climb up the ladder, acquire sattvic qualities, and become a Brahmana.Shankaracharya defines Brahmana as one who has a dominance of Sattva-guna and in whom Rajo guna is secondary.Shankaracharya defines Kshatriya as one who has a dominance of Rajo-guna, and in whom sattva-guna is secondary.Shankaracharya defines Vaishya as one who has a dominance of Rajo-guna, and in whom tamo-guna is secondary.Shankaracharya defines Sudra as one who has a dominance of Tamo-guna, and in whom Rajo-guna is secondary.Highest spiritual evolution happens when we transcend the three gunas. Such a person is called Guṇātita. One has to be fully established in sattva guna to transcend the three gunas. In spiritual life, we are all individual travelers. Just like someone traveling in a train meets other travelers – similarly, it is an accidental meeting with our near and dear ones in this life. Our journey comes to an end when we experience and realize our true identity as the Atman.

The 18th chapter is the longest and is about moksha-sannyasa-yoga. It is also considered as a summary of the previous 17 chapters.Moksha means liberation from the bondage of samsara. In modern times, it can be interpreted as liberation from utilitarian values, ultimately reaching a state where we stop searching for continuous happiness, and where we don't suffer from the ups and downs of life.Sannyasa means giving up the feeling up doer-ship and the renouncement of ego.The chapter starts in the first verse with a question from Arjuna. He asks: “What is the nature of Sannyasa and Tyaga? I want to know the distinction between the two.”In previous four chapters, Lord Krishna taught Arjuna that one should give up activities that are rajasic or tamasic in nature and evolve towards sattvic activities. Lord Krishna also says in the 8th verse of the 3rd chapter: “No one can escape the need for action. It is impossible to be in a state of inaction.” So, one the one hand, Lord Krishna says that action is inescapable. On the other hand, he says that one should perform sattvic activities only without desire for results, and one should give up other activities. Arjuna's question is rooted in his confusion as to what actions should be performed. In Hindu tradition, two underlying principles guide human life. The first principle is that every person has to go through four stages of life: Brahmacharya (student), Grhastha (householder), Vanaprastha (forest hermitage) and Sannyasa (renunciate). Manu Smriti says that Grhastha ashrama supports all the other three stages of human life. There is also another verse which says that when one sees the face of his grandchild, when his face begins to wrinkle and when his hair begins to turn grey, he should retire to a life of hermitage. It may take several life cycles for one to reach the stage of sannyasa. The second principle is the division of society based on people's innate spiritual qualities (gunas) and their actions (karmas). The four groups for conduct of duties are: (1) Brahmana (2) Kshatriya (3) Vaishya (4) Sudra. The groups should not be seen as higher or lower. Rather, it is a system to analyze people based on natural temperaments. Those who take to Sannyasa give up all activities related to worldly desire. They only undertake activities that are for the good of others and that have no selfish motive.According to Yamunacharya, who wrote Gitartha Sangraha, the central teaching of the 18th chapter is: “Whatever we do according to the principles laid down by ancient spiritual teachers is appropriate. Whatever we do that is against these principles is inappropriate.” The essence of this statement is to progress in spiritual life by practicing our everyday activities with a sattvic attitude and giving up our sense of doer-ship – “God is acting, I am not acting.”1st verse: Arjuna asks: “I want to know the meaning of Sannyasa and Tyaga.”2nd verse: Lord Krishna answers: Tyaga means giving up the desire for results. Sannyasa means giving up all activities motivated by selfish desire.”There are two levels of Sannyasa. The primary is Mukhya sannyasa, where one takes to sannyasa because of one's natural evolution. The secondary is Gauna sannyasa, where one is ordained into sannyasa by an institution. There is a statement in one of the Upanishads: “When a person wants to become a monk, at that very moment, he should become a monk.” It may happen at an early age, as was the case with Shankaracharya, or it may happen at old age. The split second that one develops an intense conviction that the world is transient, at that moment he should quit the world. This is the ideal concept of sannyasa and is called Mukhya sannyasa. Buddha's case is an example of Mukhya sannyasa. If a person has studied scriptures and takes sannyasa as part of an institution without full spiritual evolution and without full conviction that the world is impermanent, that sannyasa is secondary and is called Gauna Sannyasa.3rd verse: “According to Samkhya philosophy, all actions should be given up. According to Mimamsa philosophy, performance of Yajna, dana and tapah should not be given up.”According to Shankaracharya, one can ascend to higher stage of sannyasa from any stage in life. He says that a monk should not give up laukika karma – everyday duties and responsibilities. Instead, he should give up all ritualistic activities meant for material prosperity. He should do his duties with a sense of sanctity and sacredness, without any selfish motive. This way his activities turn into a worship towards God, his mind becomes pure, and he becomes fir for the highest spiritual evolution.

Title: Meaning of Om Tat Sat17th Chapter: verses 20, 21, 22, 23Yajna, Dana, and Tapah – these spiritual principles have the triple dimensions of Sattvika, Rajasika and Tamasika.Yajna refers to any noble, unselfish deed that is done with a sense of sanctity and sacredness and as an offering to God. Our everyday activities can be spiritualized when we perform them as yajna. Then there is no difference between the shrine and the workplace. Any activity not done as yajna becomes a bondage – it is an invisible chain that binds us to the world.Dana refers to any act of compassion, kindness and charity meant to help others.Tapah means austerity, activities that we do with total dedication and with a sense of going beyond the body-mind complex.20th verse: “Charity done with the attitude “It is my duty to help this person”, done in the right manner without any expectation of return, given to someone who is in need of it, who will use it for constructive purpose, and done at the right place and time – such charity is Sattvik.”21st verse: “When charity is practiced with the expectation of getting something back in return or done with a mind that is not happy as it is struggling with its own greed, ort done with a desire to be known as a charitable person – such charity is Rajasik.”22nd verse: “Charity done at the wrong place, at the wrong time, or to unworthy person or without regard for rules and etiquette – such charity is Tamasik.”Suppose a person is sitting in a dirty, filthy place and we give him restaurant food. It is an example of wrong place. Suppose that person has already had his meal and we give him food. It is an example of wrong time. Suppose we give money to a person who uses it for terrible things. It is an example of charity to an unworthy person. The 23rd and 24th verses are very important and explain how we can purify our spiritual activities such as yajna, dana and tapah.23rd verse: “In the Vedic literature, specifically the Upanishads, it is stated that “Om Tat Sat” constitutes the essence of all vedic literature. These three words are behind the origin and creation of the Brahmanas, Vedas and Yajnas.”There are four vedas. Each veda has four parts – Samhita, Brahmana, Aranyaka and Upanishad. Samhita contains hymns to deities. Brahmana contain description of rituals. Aranyaka contain philosophical discussions and spiritual disciplines. Upanishads contain the highest and most sublime portion of the vedas. It is difficult for normal human beings to perform their spiritual practices with perfection. For example, a prayer is effective when the mind, the act of prayer, the thoughts and emotions are all focused on the prayer. It is difficult for normal human beings to do so – there is an inherent incompleteness and imperfection in their prayer. The same applies to rituals. The spiritual practice – a prayer or an offering or a ritual – can be purified by uttering “Om” or “Om Tat Sat.”The utterance of “Om Tat Sat” can have two levels. The utterance has more effect when we understand its meaning. It has less effect if it is uttered without understanding its meaning.Om is a word symbol that represents the totality of existence and divinity. Whatever we experience in waking state, dream state or deep sleep state – they are all represented by Om.Om is comprised of A-U-M. “A” represents the totality of waking state experiences. “U” represents the totality of dream state experiences. “M” represents the totality of deep sleep experiences. Together, they represent all our experiences, as we cannot have any experience outside of these three states.Om contains the essence of all vedas. All the vedas are an attempt to describe the Absolute Reality which can only be experienced. At the empirical level, the Absolute Reality is denoted with Om.Om comes from two Sanskrit roots which mean “something that is all-pervading that sustains us, protects us from problems of the empirical world, and leads us to the highest spiritual realization.”Sri Ramakrishna used simple language to describe Om. In ascending order, he said: “Puaranas are the lowest. Higher than Puranas are Upanishads. Upanishads are condensed in Gayatri. Gayatri is condensed in Om. Beyond Om is total silence.”The highest level of experience cannot be explained. It is a deeply felt experience whose language is silence. Below silence is Om, which is the first audible, verbal symbol of the divine. When we elaborate Om, we get Gayatri. When we elaborate Gayatri, we get Upanishads. Below the Upanishads, there are many mythological books. All these books are meant to take us beyond books. The highest experience is beyond all these books.Tat means “I am offering it to the all-pervading, divine reality.” It is used to purify all forms of yajna, dana and tapah. These spiritual practices may have inherent imperfections which are rectified by utterance of Tat.When we offer our activity to the all-pervading reality that is present in everyone and everything, the activity is purified. In fact, this is the essence of the Brahma-Yajna-Mantra in the 24th verse of the 4th chapter. With the imagery of a Vedic ritual (Yajna), this verse says: “the process of offering, what we offer, the one who offers, into what it is offered, the act of performing the ritual, the goal to be reached – everything is Brahman.”There is nothing in this world, but Brahman. With this strong conviction, when we utter this mantra before eating food, then whatever we eat becomes purified.Sat means strong, steady faith. Yajna, dana and tapah, when done with a sense of sanctity, sacredness, sincerity, honesty and integrity – they get purified.Sometimes devotees chant “Hari Om Tat Sat”. Hari is the name of Vishnu and means the Lord.

The period between New Moon and Full Moon in Simha Maasa (approximately in September)for 15 days is named as Mahalaya Paksha. Lunar Calendar of Hindus divides a month with reference to the waxing and waning of the Moon, into two.(for details on Hindu/Indian Calculation of Time' please read my Blog'TIME-Non-Linear Theory, filed in Astrophysics). The waxing period is called Sukla Paksha(Sukla in Sanskrit means White,  here indicates the waxing of the Moon),ending in Full Moon, Pounima, also called Pournamasya. The waning period is called Krishna Paksha( Krishna means Black),culminating in New Moon called Amavasya. Each Paksha has 14 Days ,one Amavasya and one Pournima makes a Month. One is expected to perform the duties due to the Departed daily, that is do Tharppana daily. This applies all Castes, Brahmana,Kshatriya ,Vaisya and Sudra. We have conveniently omitted to follow the Sastras, by saying that the Srardha and Tharppana  are to be performed only by  Brahmins . Sastras declare that there is no atonement for failing to perform the Tharppana and Srardha. Of all the curses, Piru Saapa (curse), along with Sumangali Saapa (curse by women who expired when husbands are alive) are the Deadliest. Those who perform these Karmas will be blessed with Children, Grand Children. Wealth;will be free of chronic diseases, irritating circumstances and inexplicable problems in the family. If the ancestors Bless us( we are here because of them), God follows suit. If parents curse us,(which a parent rarely does) , even God will let us down. https://ramanisblog.in/2011/09/13/mahalaya-amavasyatharpana-explained/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ramanispodcast/message

Any material quality or possession like wealth, an aristocratic family, beauty, austerity, education, sensory expertise, luster etc. is ultimately given by Lord only. Lord is not after all these. He is simply after sincere devotional service. A devotee may not possess any of the above qualities but still holds a very unique position. So much so that even an animal who is a devotee can satisfy Lord but not a learned non-devotee Brahmana. Let us understand this in our upcoming session "Position Of A Devotee".

This is a Puranic story about a man who became very wealthy but was extremely miserly and harsh even with his own family. When his store of good karma ran out he gradually lost all his wealth and was rejected by his own family. He reflected deeply on the situation and received some extraordinary insight into his situation. He resolved to become a wandering monk and spend the remainder of his life absorbed in transcendence. While wandering around he was often mistreated but accepted all the unhappiness as being his due. From his enlightenment, he understood the role of the mind and how the eternal spiritual being becomes enslaved by the desires of the mind and suffers greatly as a consequence. There was a recognition of the role which our own choices and actions play in our experiencing happiness and distress and that our destiny and our happiness are in our own hands. By living a life where we are in control of our mind and desires and we consciously choose to do good, the result will be wonderful. He composed a beautiful and poetic song that addresses the reality he was experiencing. Some of the verses included the following: SB 11.23.47: All the senses have been under the control of the mind since time immemorial, and the mind himself never comes under the sway of any other. He is stronger than the strongest, and his godlike power is fearsome. Therefore, anyone who can bring the mind under control becomes the master of all the senses. SB 11.23.48: Failing to conquer this irrepressible enemy, the mind, whose urges are intolerable and who torments the heart, many people are completely bewildered and create useless quarrel with others. Thus they conclude that other people are either their friends, their enemies or parties indifferent to them. SB 11.23.49: Persons who identify with this body, which is simply the product of the material mind, are blinded in their intelligence, thinking in terms of "I" and "mine." Because of their illusion of "this is I, but that is someone else," they wander in endless darkness. SB 11.23.50: If you say that these people are the cause of my happiness and distress, then where is the place of the soul in such a conception? This happiness and distress pertain not to the soul but to the interactions of material bodies. If someone bites his tongue with his own teeth, at whom can he become angry in his suffering? SB 11.23.57: I shall cross over the insurmountable ocean of nescience by being firmly fixed in the service of the lotus feet of the Supreme Soul. This was approved by the previous ācāryas, who were fixed in firm devotion to the Lord, Paramātmā, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. SB 11.23.58: Thus becoming detached upon the loss of his property, this sage gave up his moroseness. He left home, taking sannyāsa, and began to travel about the earth. Even when insulted by foolish rascals he remained unswerved from his duty and chanted this song. SB 11.23.59: No other force besides his own mental confusion makes the soul experience happiness and distress. His perception of friends, neutral parties and enemies and the whole material life he builds around this perception are simply created out of ignorance.

Resettling of the Learned Brahmanas of ancient Karad: An Epigraphical Analysis

Part of the International conference on Maharashtra in September 2021 - Rupali Mokashi, Ulhasnagar, Thane Human migration is the movement of people from one place to another with the intention of settling permanently or temporarily at a new location. The migration of humans has been an outcome of different reasons. Religion played a pivotal role in resettling of the learned Brahmanas in early medieval India. Learned Brahmanas formed a sacerdotal class having a repository of Vedic and sacrificial knowledge. As custodians of knowledge, their expertise was required in the society. The class of learned Brahmanas is very clearly defined and extolled in the sacred texts. Patanjali quotes in Mahabhashya, ‘penance, study of the Vedas and birth in a pure race can make a Brahmana but he who is devoid of tapas and Vedic study is a Brahmana only for name sake.' Manu advocates that a Brahmana should assiduously study the Vedas alone, for that is the highest dharma and everything else is inferior dharma. Hence for the subsistence, pratigraha or receiving gifts from worthy persons was a permissible means of their livelihood. Simultaneously, various sacred texts acclaim donations to be given to the learned Brahmana, as that would place the donor in the celestial world. Offering dana has been eulogised as the principal aspect of the religious life during the Kali age. Various smriti texts reiterate that the gift of land was the most meritorious of all. In the light of such textual testimonies, this paper will try to analyse the land grants received by the learned Brahmanas residing in ancient Karad and its manifold impacts, especially migration. A thorough check to the preceding land grants in Maharashtra will enable an appropriate historical perspective. The Rashtrakuta and Shilahara inscriptions spanning over a period of four centuries, divulge various important aspects like the exact purpose, merit accrued thereof and geographical details of these donations. The duties and prerogatives of the donee Brahmanas will be studied at length. The antiquity of Karad will be given a thorough check. The land grants given to the Brahmanas initiated them to accept the add on role of the agriculturist. The subsequent change in the approach in the smriti literature will also be appropriately analysed.

Once Sage Markandeya visited Yudhistira Maharaja and told the following story – “I am no crane”. Brahmana Kaushika was a strict brahmachari who was strong and steadfast in his austerities. He was well-versed in the study of vedic scriptures. Once he was sitting under a tree reciting vedas. A crane sitting on the tree perched and defiled his head with droppings. Kaushika became very angry and looked at the crane. Just by his angry look the bird was killed and fell down dead. Thereafter another time Kaushika went to beg alms. He stood in front of a house. The housewife was busy in cleaning the utensils. Then her husband arrived. She served him sincerely, washing and drying his feet and then feeding him. After that she came out with alms to the mendicant Kaushika and said, “Sorry, pardon me for waiting”. Kaushika sarcastically chastised her for keeping the brahmana in waiting. But she said, “Be not angry with me and remember that I kept you waiting only because I was dutifully serving my husband. I am no crane that perched on the tree, to be killed by a violent thought and your rage can do no harm to a woman who devotes herself to the service of her husband. O Great one! You do not know the secret of duty, and you are also not aware that anger is the great enemy that dwells in man. Forgive the delay in attending to you. Go to Mithila and be instructed in the secret of good life by Dharmavyadha living in that city.” The Brahmana was apologetic and he thanked the lady and went to Mithila to meet Dharmavyadha. He thought he is searching for some lonely hermitage. Instead he finally reached a butcher's shop, in which was a man selling meat. He was astonished when he learnt that this man was Dharmavyadha. The Brahmana was shocked beyond measure and stood at a distance in disgust. The butcher suddenly rose from his seat, came to the Brahmana and inquired, “Revered sir! Are you well ? Did that chaste Brahmana lady send you to me ?” Kaushika Brahmana was stupefied. The Butcher said, “Let us go to my home”. The Brahmana saw there a happy family and greatly struck by the devotion with which he served his parents. He took his lessons from that butcher on dharma, man's calling and duty. Afterwards Kaushika returned to his house and began to tend his parent's duty which he had rather neglected before

Sutras are a genre of ancient and medieval Indian texts found in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. In Hinduism, sutras are a distinct type of literary composition, a compilation of short aphoristic statements. Each sutra is any short rule, like a theorem distilled into few words or syllables, around which teachings of ritual, philosophy, grammar, or any field of knowledge can be woven. The oldest sutras of Hinduism are found in the Brahmana and Aranyaka layers of the Vedas. Every school of Hindu philosophy, Vedic guides for rites of passage, various fields of arts, law, and social ethics developed respective sutras, which help teach and transmit ideas from one generation to the next. Yoga Sutras – contains 196 sutras on Yoga including the eight limbs and meditation. The Yoga Sutras were compiled around 400 CE by Patanjali, taking materials about yoga from older traditions Brahma Sutras (or Vedanta Sutra) – a Sanskrit text, composed by Badarayana, likely sometime between 200 BCE to 200 CE. The text contains 555 sutras in four chapters that summarize the philosophical and spiritual ideas in the Upanishads Nyaya Sutras – an ancient text of Nyaya school of Hindu philosophy composed by Akṣapada Gautama, sometime between the 6th century BCE and 2nd century CE. Instruction on Self-Realization Janaka said --- 1. How can knowledge be acquired? How can liberation be attained? How is renunciation possible? --- Tell me this, O Lord. Ashtavakra said -- 2. If you aspire after liberation, my child, shun the objects of the senses as poison and seek forgiveness, sincerity, kindness, contentment and truth as nectar. 3. You are neither earth, nor water, nor fire, nor air, nor space. In order to attain liberation, know the Self as the witness of all these and as Consciousness itself. 4. If you detach yourself from the body and rest in Consciousness, you will at once be happy, peaceful and free from bondage. 5. You do not belong to the Brahmana or any other caste or to any ashrama. You are not perceived by the senses. Unattached, formless and witness of all are you. Be happy. 6. Virtue and vice, pleasure and pain, are of the mind, not of you, O Allpervading One. You are neither doer nor enjoyer. Verily you are ever free. 7. You are the one seer of all and are really ever free. Verily this alone is your bondage that you see yourself not as the seer but as something other. 8. Do you who have been bitten by the great black serpent of the egoism “I am the doer,” drink the nectar of the faith “I am not the doer,” and be happy. 9. Burn down the forest of ignorance with the fire of conviction, “I am the One, and Pure Consciousness,” and be free from grief and be happy. 10. You are that Consciousness, Bliss – Supreme Bliss, in and upon which this universe appears superimposed, like a snake on a rope. Live happily. 11. He who considers himself free is free indeed and one who considers himself bound remains bound. “As one thinks, so one becomes,” is a popular saying in this world, and it is quite true. 12. The Self is witness, all-pervading, perfect, One, free, Consciousness, actionless, unattached, desireless and quiet. Through illusion It appears as if It is of the world (i.e. subject to the ever-repeating cycle of birth and death). 13. Having given up external and internal self-modifications and the illusion “I am the reflected (individual) self”, meditate on the Atman as immutable, Consciousness, and non-dual. 14. My child, you have long been caught in the noose of body-consciousness. Sever it with the sword of the knowledge “I am Consciousness” and be happy. 15. You are unattached, actionless, self-effulgent and without any blemish. This indeed is your bondage that you practise meditation. 16. You pervade this universe and this universe exists in you. You are really Pure Consciousness. Do not be small-minded. 17. You are unconditioned, immutable, formless, of cool disposition, of unfathomable intelligence and unperturbed. Desire Consciousness alone. 18. Know that which has form to be unreal and the formless to be permanent. Through this spiritual instruction you will escape the possibility of rebirth. 19. Just as a mirror exists within and without the image reflected in it, so the Supreme Self exists inside and outside this body. 20. As the same all pervading space is inside and outside a jar, so the eternal allpervasive Brahman exists in all things.

But what we don't know is, beyond rituals, sacrifices or yadnya and philosophy; Vedas are a repository of India's history and culture. They consist of stories of kings and tribes, social and political systems, aspects of everyday life like pastoralism and agriculture and even processes in science and technology.Follow our host Saniya Mane on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/saniyamane/?hl=enYou can listen to this show and other awesome shows on the IVM Podcasts app on Android: IVM Podcasts - Apps on Google Play or iOS: ‎IVM Podcasts, or any other podcast app.You can check out our website at https://shows.ivmpodcasts.com/

It is written in Brij Bhasha which is more prevalent in Mathura, Gokul, Vrindavan and certain other parts of eastern UP areas.    Lord removes afflictions of dismals (poor, suffering beings) and is a benefactor (well-wisher) of saints.    Ajamila (story attached), Geedh (Jatayu), Byadh (Jara, the hunter, who killed Lord Krishna), who was the saint (what saintliness they had) amongst them?    What Vedas did this Bird (Jatayu) study and even a woman like Ganika (Teaching a parrot to speak the Lord's Name, Ganika, the prostitute, was liberated) swam across Bhava-Sagar.  Note: Meditating on Him in remembrance and uttering His name, specially in the last moments of their lives, all aforesaid mentioned individuals were liberated by Lord.  He (Lord) becomes very happy even to receive simple rice (from Sudama) and gets contended with an offering of mere potherbs (green vegetables) or some edible leaves (from a poor devotee).    He (Lord) neither counts (take a note of) the already tasted (and then offered to Him) fruits (of Shabri) nor which ones are sweet or sour or tasteless.    Lord crowned Druva a king and lifted Prahlad out (of the atrocities of Hiranyakashipu).    Every one remembers Him (Lord) chanting Ram Ram whereas I remember Him as my true Be-Loved.  Note: Rev. Master Sri Ramchandra Maharaj of Shajahanpur points out a Lover and Be-loved relationship to be more closer to Lord than a devotee and Lord relationship.  The Story of Ajamila  (Taken from Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 6)    Ajamila was raised according to the Vedic regulations. He was a perfectly trained brahmana and had a chaste and beautiful wife.  But one day, while he was out in the fields collecting flowers for worshipping the Lord, he happened to see a drunken sudra and a prostitute engaged in sexual embrace. Ajamila became bewildered and attracted; his mind becoming more and more attached to the prostitute. In Bhagavad-gita it says that if one contemplates sense objects, he becomes attached to them. Although Ajamila was a strict Brahmana he became helplessly entangled by seeing a man and woman engaged in sexual activity. Consequently he took this prostitute into his home as a maidservant. Inevitably, he became so entangled that he abandoned his family, wife and children and went off with the prostitute. Due to his illicit connection with the prostitute, he lost all his good qualities. He became a thief, a liar, a drunkard, even a murderer. He completely forgot about his original training as a brahmana, and his whole life was ruined.  Engaging in sinful activities, Ajamila fell down from his position, and he begot many children through the womb of the prostitute. Even towards the end of his life, around the age of eighty, he was still begetting children. It is explained that while he was dying, which is a very fearful time, he began to call out his pet child, whose name was Narayana. At that time, Yamadutas, the messengers of death, were coming. They were tying up the subtle body of Ajamila and preparing to take him to be punished by Yamaraja, the lord of death. At the same time, because he happened to be speaking the holy name of the Lord Narayana, the beautiful Visnudutas, the messengers of Vishnu, also arrived there. They checked the activities of the Yamadutas, refusing to allow them to take Ajamila for punishment.    The Yamadutas were bewildered. “Why are those effulgent and beautiful personalities checking our action? It's our duty to take sinful men to Yamaraja for punishment; then they are awarded another material body for the next life so that they can the result of their sinful activity.” There was a discussion between the Yamadutas and the Visnudutas. The conclusion was that although Ajamila was sinful through out his life and gave up his religious life, his wife and children and begot children through a prostitute, he nevertheless was purified from all the sins because at the last moment he chanted the holy name of Vishnu, Narayana.    Although Ajamila had committed so many sinful deeds, because he chanted the name of Narayana, he was relieved of all sinful activities.
