In this episode of the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, Giuseppe Ianni, podcast host and industry interviewer, is joined for a second time by Nandita Puri, PhD Researcher at Georgia Tech working at the intersection of bioinformatics and biochemistry. The conversation explores how AI is transforming drug discovery, accelerating hypothesis generation, reducing experimental costs, improving success rates, enabling rare disease research, and paving the way for virtual cell simulation. Key Takeaways AI Is Creating a New Drug Discovery Workflow: Puri describes a major transition from traditional laboratory-first research toward a hybrid approach combining computational and experimental science. Researchers can now use AI, machine learning, and pattern recognition to analyze massive biological datasets before conducting expensive laboratory work. According to Puri, "I see a healthy combination of 50% dry lab and wet-lab validation becoming the emerging standard." This shift allows scientists to move beyond manual analysis and leverage computational intelligence to generate stronger hypotheses, identify promising targets faster, and focus laboratory resources on the most promising opportunities. Higher Success Rates Mean Lower Costs and Less Waste: One of the most immediate benefits of AI in drug discovery is improved experimental efficiency. Puri notes that individual experiments can cost "$10,000-$12,000" and historically have carried significant failure risk. By consolidating fragmented datasets and identifying meaningful biological signals, AI helps researchers prioritize stronger hypotheses before entering the laboratory. Puri explained that some AI-assisted binder-development efforts achieved "40% 50% of success rate," compared with previous rates of "10% 5%." These improvements reduce wasted resources, shorten research timelines, and allow scientific teams to evaluate more potential treatments with the same budget. AI Is Unlocking Opportunities for Rare Disease Research: Rare diseases have historically faced funding and development challenges due to limited patient populations and expensive clinical validation requirements. Puri explains that AI is helping overcome these barriers by generating synthetic datasets, identifying hidden biological relationships, and revealing common signaling pathways between diseases. She notes that "AI is really, really helping rare disease industry to go forward." Visit Cloud Wars for more.
Tuvākajā laikā trīs bojāgājušos Latvijas alpīnistus varētu nocelt no kalna, operācija aizvien turpinās.
In this episode of the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, Giuseppe Ianni, AI Practice Lead and industry thought leader, is joined by Nandita Puri, PhD Candidate at Georgia Tech and founder of Illumia.bio. Puri discusses how AI is transforming drug discovery by creating massive therapeutic libraries, connecting fragmented biomedical knowledge, and dramatically accelerating research timelines. Their conversation explores the convergence of AI, structural biology, and life sciences. Key Takeaways AI Expands the Search Space for New Therapeutics: Traditional drug discovery focuses on identifying a single drug for a single target, but Puri argues that diseases are complex biological systems requiring broader approaches. Her team is building an AI-generated library of more than 10 billion molecules across multiple therapeutic modalities. By treating drug discovery as a combinatorics problem, researchers can explore vastly larger therapeutic possibilities. Connecting Fragmented Scientific Knowledge Accelerates Discovery: One of the biggest bottlenecks in pharmaceutical research is the fragmented nature of scientific information. Researchers often spend years reviewing hundreds of papers before forming a hypothesis. Puri describes how her team is integrating 60 to 70 public databases into a connected knowledge platform that links diseases, genes, proteins, pathways, and drug candidates. As she notes, "When we type a disease, we know exactly the gene, we exactly know the protein." This consolidation dramatically reduces research time and enables scientists to make more informed decisions earlier in the discovery process. AI Creates New Opportunities for Rare Disease Research: Rare diseases have historically been underserved because of the high costs and long timelines associated with traditional drug development. Puri says that bringing a drug to market can require "$1 billion and about 10 years." By shortening research cycles from years to months, AI lowers the barriers to investigating diseases that pharmaceutical companies may have previously avoided. This acceleration enables smaller teams to pursue treatments for conditions affecting fewer patients while increasing the likelihood that promising therapies can move forward to validation and clinical testing. Send us Fan MailLast week we brought back Part 1 of our Ruchir Puri masterclass. This is the episode that completes it.If Part 1 was about how AI works — agentic loops, inference scaling, the death of prompt engineering — Part 2 is about where AI is going. Ruchir takes on the biggest questions in the industry: Is Jensen Huang right that AGI arrives by 2029? What does IBM's bet on open models actually mean for the enterprise? And what does it take to build AI with not just intelligence, but reasoning and judgment? His framework — AGI as IQ + EQ + RQ — is one of the clearest mental models we've heard for cutting through the noise around artificial general intelligence. On our political radar this week… Pam Bondi joins Meat Loaf, Joan Rivers, Dennis Rodman, Sinbad, Dionne Warwick, Andrew Dice Clay, Omarosa … and Kristi Noem: “You’re fired!” VIDEO: Bye Bye Bondi (A Tribute) Senator Elissa Slotkin – speaking in Iowa – confirms what we've been saying for weeks: she's open to running for President. Two more special elections this week, two more sharp turns to Democrats: –In Wisconsin, liberal candidate Chris Taylor cruised to an easy victory over her conservative opponent in the state Supreme Court race with 60 percent of the vote, expanding the liberal majority on the court to 5-2. – Georgia, Democrat Shawn Harris lost by about 12 percentage points in the race to replace Marjorie Taylor Green, but he shifted the district 25 points to the left. Trump won the district by 37 percentage points in 2024. A national Republican group said Monday it's dumping $45 million into Michigan's open U.S. Senate race as an initial investment to help presumptive GOP nominee Mike Rogers flip the seat from Democratic control. The operative word is “initial”, meaning even more millions will flow into Michigan Republican sources. Trump is calling on Congress to give Pete Hegseth a staggering $1.7-trillion dollars over the next year. To fund it, Trump wants to cut virtually every other federal program including a 23% cut for NASA even as four astronauts take a first-ever-for-humans trip to the far side of the moon. One item calling for a major increase: White House repairs and renovations. Trump wants to spend 377-million dollars on fixing up the place, an 860 percent increase. Two more major league grifts from Trump: –The Justice Department has settled for roughly $1.2 million a lawsuit from Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser to President Donald Trump who pleaded guilty during Trump’s first term to lying to the FBI about his conversations with a top Russian diplomat and was later pardoned. Bottom line: if Trump likes you, taxpayers will pay you to lie to the FBI. –Semafor is reporting that Trump has directed the State Department to send $1.25 billion – without any Congressional appropriation or authorization to do so – to Trump's Board of Peace. The transfer effectively places the money directly in the hands of Trump, the board’s chairman. Trump and the board’s executives control funding for the Board of Peace — and Trump selects the executive board — and the president will continue to do so even after his second term ends in January 2029. In the race for Governor – John James is ducking still another candidate debate, this one set for the end of the month in vote-rich Oakland County. James has seen his once overwhelming lead for the GOP gubernatorial nomination shrink as septuagenarian Perry “Quality Guru” Johnson dumps millions into an effort to spend his way into office. Governor Whitmer says she will not endorse a candidate for U.S. Senate or Secretary of State. She earlier ruled out an endorsement in the race for the gubernatorial nomination. It's pretty easy for Democrats to be critics of Donald Trump, his policies and his corruption. More important to most people is answering the question: “so what are you going to do?” State House Democrats have answered, releasing their Vision for a Brighter Michigan. We're joined by House Democratic Leader Ranjeev Puri who led development of the plan. The son of Indian immigrants, Leader Puri made history in 2020 as the first person of color to represent his Canton Michigan district and the first Sikh-American in Michigan's legislative history. In his second term he served as majority whip, making him the highest-ranking South Asian in state government nationwide. Remarkably, he is one of two first-generation Indian-Americans in top legislative leadership: Senate Majority Floor Leader Sam Singh is also the son of Indian immigrants. Leader Puri's leadership has earned national recognition, including being named to the Council of State Government's “20 Under 40” Leadership Award Class of 2023 and receiving the MIRS Legislator of the Year Award in 2024.His leadership has earned national recognition, including being named to the Council of State Government's “20 Under 40” Leadership Award Class of 2023 and receiving the MIRS Legislator of the Year Award in 2024. (Jeff) First question! A personal note from producer/co-host Walt Sorg April is Michigan Donate Life month, a recognition of the state's organ donation program. Four years ago I was the recipient of a donated kidney. It changed my life … and probably saved my life. A part of you can live on after death through the simple act of saying “yes, I want to pay it forward.” And you can go a step beyond through a living donation of a kidney, or portion of your liver. My donor was my brother and he's just as healthy today with one kidney as he was before the surgery. The Michigan Organ Donor Registry is a confidential database that documents an individual's decision to become an organ, tissue and eye donor. Joining the registry is simple and secure. Michiganders can add their name online at Michigan.gov/OrganDonation, at any Secretary of State branch office or self-service station, or on your state income tax return. And while you're at it … the donation of blood through the Red Cross is an easy way to save another life. Last spring, donated blood saved my life. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Are you busy all day but never finishing the work that actually matters? What if the problem isn't discipline — it's that you've never learned how to enter a flow state on demand? Steven Puri joins Nick Urban to break down the science and practice of flow states. Steven shares the exact protocol he built after two decades in Hollywood and tech: how music at 60-90 BPM triggers focus, why rain sounds outperformed $100K of custom compositions, and the morning intention habit he calls the single highest-ROI practice for productivity. Meet our guest Steven Puri is the Founder and CEO of The Sukha Company, a flow state productivity platform helping knowledge workers find their focus and do their best work. Before building Sukha, Steven served as VP at 20th Century Fox running the Die Hard and Wolverine franchises, EVP at DreamWorks Pictures for Kurtzman-Orci Productions (Star Trek, Transformers), and produced CGI for 14 films including Independence Day. He sold his first tech company, Centropolis Effects, at age 28. Steven lives in Austin, TX. “The Bisara of Pooree”: Set in 1891 British India, Major John Churton is riding a streak of bad luck — a robbery, the death of his horse, a rejected invention — when he becomes engaged to the woman of his dreams, Millicent Hollis. His old friend Tom Futon recognizes the source of the trouble: a small silver box called the Bissara of Puri, containing a tiny eyeless wooden fish, which Churton unknowingly purchased in a bazaar. According to legend, the Bissara brings ruin to those who buy it — but grants the heart's desire to those who steal it. When the odious Captain Pack secretly steals the box and uses its power to bewitch Millicent into accepting his marriage proposal, Churton must arrange to steal it back before he loses everything. | #RetroRadio #WeirdDarkness | EP0620CHAPTERS & TIME STAMPS (All Times Approximate)…00:00:00.000 = Show Open00:01:30.028 = CBS Radio Mystery Theater, “The Bisara of Pooree” (July 18, 1977) ***WD00:48:08.906 = X Minus One, “Protective Mimicry” (October 03, 1956)01:15:03.627 = ABC Mystery Time, “No One Will Ever Know (1956) ***WD01:39:04.515 = Strange Adventure, “Border Incident” (March 22, 1955) ***WD01:42:14.889 = BBC Radio 4 / Radio 7 Ghost Story, “The Revenant” (late 1980s) ***WD01:56:29.875 = Beyond The Green Door, “George Davis' Freak Show” (1966)02:00:27.972 = Black Book, “Different Readings, Part 1” (November 21, 1951) ***WD02:17:15.269 = Black Book, “Different Readings, Part 2” (November 21, 1951) ***WD02:25:37.134 = All Star Western Theater, “Ghost In Little Dear Canyon” (November 29, 1947) ***WD02:54:07.170 = Box 13, “Suicide or Murder” (October 31, 1948)03:20:35.465 = CBC Mystery Theater, “The Tell-Tale Heart” (October 31, 1974) ***WD03:46:24.408 = Chet Chetter's Tales From The Morgue, “It Came From Video” (1990-1992) ***WD04:14:20.171 = The Clock, “The One-Eyed Cat” (November 01, 1955)04:38:34.068 = The Crime Club, “Fish For Entree” (September 11, 1947)05:08:30.369 = Show Close(ADU) = Air Date Unknown(LQ) = Low Quality***WD = Remastered, edited, or cleaned up by Weird Darkness to make the episode more listenable. To put on a yajña takes a lot of work—any kind of yajña—and to take it down takes a lot of work. The middle portion is often very short. Again, in a fire yajña, there's only a few spoon fulls that go in, but getting all the ingredients (especially if you have to grow them yourself) and then cleaning up afterwards is the heavy lifting. But the combustion—spiritual combustion—happens in the middle, and this is one of the five most important practices according to Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. I feel like we had that combustion because of the hard work of Śraddhā Devī Dāsī ,team members, and Divyanāma Prabhu—working, all of them, constantly. I'm in on weekly meetings for planning, and then I hear Śraddhā with her team. I see Divyanāma Prabhu constantly planning also for his team. And this is a confluence of different teams coming together; it's just been really nice. I hear Nirākulā in the other room on meetings, and the detail that Śraddhā goes into to plan these is astounding to me, and many of you mentioned those types of things. I don't know if you could hear out there, Śraddhā, but a lot of people were appreciating that you had a motherly presence and you were attentive to every detail. Really, it's your tenacity and your very deep devotion that shows up in the way that you lean into your service completely. I couldn't be more grateful, and all of us feel that way too. So thank you very, very much for giving such sacrifice so that we can achieve this yajña that is irreplaceable in our lives, in our sojourn, in our journey back to Godhead. Thank you very much. Divyanāma Prabhu, Vṛndārikā Ramāi, and their team—they have dedicated their lives, or a good portion of them, to putting on Yātrās. And just in the way things have come together over the years, we have now three Yātrās a year. They've just evolved. But they didn't just evolve, just like the material world and all the species didn't just evolve—there's an intelligence behind it. Divyanāma and Vṛndārikā Ramāi are attached to the dhāma. They have spent a lot of time in the dhāma, and it was good fortune that they ran into Mukhāravinda in the Istanbul airport distributing books one day. Believe it or not, they were in transit, and that's—without all the details—how we met. Then one thing led to another, with a ride from their house to the airport about starting the Youth Yātrā. I had always wanted to do it; didn't know how it would ever happen, but then Kṛṣṇa sent them and they said, ‘We'll do it.' Now there's been a merging of Yātrās, and we have added on in October to the wonderful UK devotees coming together, and I get to spend time going around with that other Yātrā, and now these Yātrās are coming together. Kṛṣṇa has definitely got a plan, and we're really grateful to you and Vṛndārikā Ramāi. Thank you very much for the tireless service you do. Back at ISV years ago, we used to have Devotee Appreciation Day, and we would come together once a year, I think, to try to appreciate the devotees. Every time driving home, I would look at Nirākulā and say, ‘Why am I so exhausted?' It was really hard, because we all have this feeling—I'm hearing it from everyone—you want to try to mention everybody. It's like seeing all the preparations that were just offered to Lord Jagannātha and then thinking you can eat them all. It's impossible to glorify the devotees enough or appreciate them enough. And I always walked away feeling like, ‘Oh, I could have done more.' And that's exactly how I feel now—for all of you, that we came together to render service and create this environment. It's a miracle. It's a spiritual miracle that will be imprinted in our hearts forever.

This transcendental body is the playground for the continuous expression of variegated moods and ecstatic symptoms, that carry His consciousness to the realm where He is no longer aware of that transcendental body. By only a particle of His mercy he has delivered the three worlds. 2) I salute the Son of Mother Saci, Whose heart is in a state of rapture, transformed by feelings of intense love. In His pastime of loud roaring, before the mischievous and malicious rascals, He removes all fear of the vast ocean of material existence, by the effect of His unlimited compassion. 3) He is wearing garments the color of the eastern sky during the dawn, and His lovely cheeks shine with the same radiance. The nails of His hands and feet have the same pleasing effect of the moon, shining in the sky. His pleasure diversion consists in discussions and glorification of His own wonderful qualities and names. I offer my obeisances to the Son of Mother Saci. 4) His lotus eyes are always wet with tears. His ornaments are the new and ever fresh transformations of ecstatic love that decorate His transcendental form. His gait is slow and majestic, yet His dancing is a wonderful pastime of enjoyment. I bow down before the Son of Mother Saci. 5) The movement of His lovely, yet restless, lotus feet captivates the mind, and His ankle bracelets sweeten that charming scene all the more. His face, which defeats the beauty of the moon, is very cooling and pleasant. I offer my salutations to the Son of Mother Saci. 6) He wears a cord around His waist and carries in His hands a water pot and staff. His divine appearance is complemented by His shaved head. The sins of the wicked are annulled by the rod of chastisement that he carries. I salute the Son of Mother Saci. 7) His ornaments are the dust on His body and His radiant tilak, prepared with sandalwood. The beautiful sight of His trembling reddish lips brings delight to the mind and heart. I offer my obeisances to the Son of Mother Saci. 8) His lotus eyes defeat the color of pink lotuses. His two lotus hands are very long, reaching down almost to His knees. He appears to be a mere adolescent, dressed as He is, ready to dance. I prostrate myself before the Son of Mother Saci.
I really want to thank Divyanāma Prabhu and Śraddhā Devī Dāsī for threading the needle, because it's not so easy to land in all these places and have a stretch of time that we've had to sit here and do bhajan. I keep resonating with the cleaning ladies who asked Ānanda Vrindāvana if we all live in one āśrama back in California, and she said, "No, we're from all over the world," but these yātrās are like living in one āśrama and having the opportunity to see what it's like. See how you like it—just hearing and chanting and going to holy places. And if you do like it, then you're really lucky, because this is life. The other part of the life is to take whatever drop we get and give it to as many people as possible. The spiritual mathematics given in the Caitanya-caritāmṛt is: the more you give it out, the more it swells in our own lives. Dear Śrīla Prabhupāda, dear Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, dear Śrīla Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya, Śrīla Rāmānanda Rāya, Śrīla Svarūpa Dāmodara, and all the residents of Jagannātha Purī who are followers of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu: If You so desire, please instill in our hearts a drop of the mercy of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu—for You are His great devotees—so that we can follow in the footsteps of Lord Caitanya by following the footsteps of Śrīla Prabhupāda and his followers, and bring millions and millions of people back here to Jagannātha Purī to chant, dance, and live in one huge āśrama. Make the whole world one āśrama with everyone chanting and hearing. Thank you for considering our request. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #pilgrimageoftheheart #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings
We are creating our own bodies. The body you have now is a 3D printing of the kind of sound vibration—the kind of data we took in, the kind of data that we listened to, and that we perpetrated in our last life—and therefore, we got printed. Here's your 3D-printed body, exactly because of the sound vibration you put into it. Kṛṣṇa's creative force is inconceivably powerful—the material apparatus—but even more powerful is the sound vibration of His name. So the chanting of His name, remember that it's repositioning us, creating our destiny. We're creating everything in our lives because of the sound vibration we're making. So you can take it that when you're chanting, you're printing. If you want to print a new life, if you want to print a spiritual body, and so forth... Sorry, it's kind of a gross example, but it comes from the sound vibration because—and I'll reiterate and finish—everything comes from subtle to gross. It all starts with sound vibration; even in physics now, the theory is that everything's vibrational. The whole universe is tied together by combinations and permutations of vibration. So the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is the supreme vibration, and it's the best idea for printing a new life. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #makejapagreatagain #mantrameditation #chantharekrishnaandbehapy #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Everyone makes mistakes and material life is fraught with missteps. We always wish we had an undue button. Well, we do. And the mantra is, if you don't like what you've created for yourself—and we're not dead stones, we have volition—therefore, first step in recovery from any bad habit is to admit one's own part in it, and admitting that somehow or other, as Lord Caitanya said, "I have fallen into this material ocean," and wanting to undo it, we can realize that if we created it, we can uncreate it. But how do we do that? Well, Karma is a consequence. We start somewhere, and there's a sequence of events that unfolds. There are various ways in the Vedas to atone for missteps sins, but they don't fix the problem. We want to reform the tendency to commit sinful activities, and that, according to our tradition, is through sound—anāvṛttiḥ śabdāt. The last verse of the Vedānta-sūtra says we can become uncovered, or we can reverse the tendency for sinful activity by sound. And what is that tendency? If we look at various Vedic words, Sanskrit words, one that's relevant in this context is vāsanā. Comes from the root word vas which means to remain, and it literally means fragrance. You may notice, if you live in a—if you've ever been in a hotel room that's odoriferous, you may put some camphor in your room. So as you take the camphor out, the odoriferousness comes back. Even while engaged in various activities, devotees whose minds are completely absorbed at Your lotus feet, and who constantly hear, chant, contemplate and cause others to remember Your transcendental names and forms, are always on the transcendental platform, and thus they can understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In addition to our chanting 16 rounds daily, we must all read at least one chapter of the Bhagavad-gītā. Read one chapter one day then go on to the next chapter the next day and in this way, after 18 days, we will have completed one reading. After four or five such complete reading we will know Bhagavad-gītā as it is and our questions and doubts will be answered. We have to be thoughtful of what people can handle. And in talking to Kaustubha Prabhu about it—it was in Wisdom of the Sages—you know, he got inspired about reading Bhāgavatam to people. Yet he reads ahead and sees what can they handle, which parts will they be able to assimilate. There is a certain time at which you do notice that people have enough grounding in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Part of it is trusting those who are presenting it, and seeing that these people are real. They live real lives; they are sincere, and they are somebody I can trust. That's a bridge that helps people, because even if there are difficult concepts that they come across, they have somebody they can process it with. So that's also a sign that they can take more. We find also that there are times at which people demand more. We have seen also that devotees hold back, and then people are like, 'Alright...' We had this program called 'Kṛṣṇa Life.' It was actually our brand. The sequence was too long, but we had once a month where we would invite people from Meetup.com. People would come over, and we would do a very light presentation, to say the least. It was way too light. And there were these two ladies. After they had been coming for a few months, maybe more—they finally showed up and they had kaṇṭhī-mālā (neck beads) and stuff. They said, 'We found your temple! You've been holding back on us!' So sometimes people push forward and they are like, "Give us the straight thing." And devotees are really, taking something off the pitch' so that they are being too careful. So that's the life of one who is teaching Bhāgavatam: constantly trying to interpret, 'What's the best way that I can give this so that people can accept it and not reject it out of hand, and also not hold back too long until it's too late and they miss the point." ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #pilgrimageoftheheart #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

It's a question of alignment because, by nature, we're liberated. It's not that we ever actually mix with the material nature. In the Vedic language, Prabhupāda says, "asango hy ayaṁ puruṣaḥ"—that the jīva actually never has any saṅga with the material world. As elaborated upon by Kapiladeva in the Third Canto of the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, he ascribes the experience of the soul to be dreamlike. He gives this analogy: in a dream, you might see something horrific, like you're being killed by having your head cut off. Then he says, first of all, this is a dream. Second of all, the idea itself is a little misplaced because if your head is cut off, it would be hard to watch yourself—not just "hard" as in abhorrent to watch, but in the sense that your optical nerve is cut! It is a misunderstanding and a misalignment with who we actually are. 'Bhayaṁ dvitīyābhiniveśataḥ syād īśād apetasya viparyayo 'smṛtiḥ.' (SB 11.2.37) This is the definition of the original problem of the soul is apetasya—turning one's face away from Īśa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore, bhakti means you turn your face back to Īśa, and the phenomena of bhayaṁ syāt (fear arising) is no longer there. So, there's one fell swoop. 'Kṛṣṇa sūrya-sama; māyā haya andhakāra.' As soon as you bring in Kṛṣṇa, the light comes on. That dream-like situatio, that fearfulness and the implication in karma is no longer present at that point. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Before Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura departed for the spiritual world, he stayed in this place where he was engaged in bhajana. Nearby here is the area where Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu chased after the sand dune, considering it to be Govardhana Hill—a very sacred place here in Jagannātha Purī. Two weeks before he left, his disciple, A.C. Bhaktivedanta, had written him a letter as a householder and asked, "What can I do for your mission?" Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura asked him to preach in English. He had also told him previously, and reconfirmed: "You should print books." In fact, he said at Rādhā-kuṇḍa, "If you ever get money, print books." Our Founder-Ācārya of ISKCON, Śrīla A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, followed those instructions with his heart, mind, and soul. To that end, he published hundreds of books that were distributed in the millions; and even today, we are increasing that number all over the world. For Bhādra Pūrṇimā 2026—the great festival that is now taken up by devotees on every continent of the world—we, in the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, have the solemn goal to distribute at least 108,000 Śrīmad-Bhāgavatams in the next several months leading up to the day of Bhādra. The full moon day, during which the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam itself says that the giving away of a Bhāgavatam on that lunar celebration qualifies one to go back home, back to Godhead. We pray to Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, who instructed his dear disciple to spread this all over the world, that we may help by following the footsteps of Śrīla Prabhupāda. May we smash this goal together all over the world, uniting around the principle of spreading Krishna consciousness to all the poor people of the world who have no idea that the goal of life is to go back home, back to Godhead. Please, let us help them. Let us distribute the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam: 108,000 sets. Please go out and do as many as you can! ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #pilgrimageoftheheart #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
In the place we were today, Toṭā Gopīnātha—affectionately known as Toṭā Gopīnātha, because toṭā means "garden," Caitanya Mahāprabhu used to meet with Gadādhara Paṇḍita there daily to hear Bhāgavatam as revealed in the Caitanya-bhāgavata. Caitanya Mahāprabhu himself had some difficulty in reading the Bhāgavatam. Does anybody remember what it was? Too many tears. He destroyed his own copy from the tears; it was the same with doing any kind of pūjā. Gadādhara Paṇḍita is the internal potency of the Lord in the Pañca-tattva; He is Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. Caitanya Mahāprabhu met there at that garden regularly to hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from Gadādhara Paṇḍita. This is an indication of the eternal pastime of the Lord, which is to hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam in the association of devotees. It is also one of the five most recommended out of sixty-four items of devotional service: to find a toṭā somewhere. In fact, it's necessary because I find that most places are fraught with distraction. If you go to Vṛndāvana, for instance, during festival times, and you walk from one end of the property to the other to get to your apartment, you'll be stopped by no less than ten people saying, "Hey, are you still doing that stuff and the thing?" and it takes a while. What's more, someone may come rapping at your door at any time, day or night, with a delivery or a question or something like that. So, finding a secluded place—like Caitanya Mahāprabhu repaired to the garden with Gadādhara Paṇḍita—and steadily hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam over a long time is medicinal. In fact, we find in our experimentation with this technique (in the way of emulating Caitanya Mahāprabhu and Gadādhara Paṇḍita) going to a place in Govardhana Hill we found that since most people don't make it out of the orbit of Vṛndāvana—so it's hard to get out there to Govardhana, It's a gated community, you only come through the gate if you have a purpose there. Taking time to just hear the Bhāgavatam and Prabhupāda's purports, it's as if there's a hologram in the room where Prabhupāda is personally manifesting, and Kṛṣṇa is personally manifesting. Śrīla Prabhupāda referred to it just now when he thanked Śrī Nārada for kindly appearing in the chapter. This is not hyperbole or imagination; it's the truth. The transcendental personalities are present in the sound vibration. How much medicine does one need to overcome the anarthas that plague one? A lot! Some people are so-called humans. According to the śāstra, dvipada-paśu, they are called 'two-legged animals.' Doesn't matter if you take to the path given by the ācāryas, and especially because Nityānanda Prabhu noticed that a lot of people were being cut off from the mercy. The mercy had been dammed up. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura sings about this in his song 'Nitāi Gaura Mani'—such a beautiful song. People like to dam up the mercy in religious institutions. They discover some niche, and then they want to stay in their niche—a little hole in the wall somewhere where they have some designated power. And then they want to make sure nobody else gets it unless it's through them. So, Nityānanda Prabhu and Lord Caitanya came. Specifically mentioned in 'Nitāi Gaura Mani,' Nityānanda Prabhu cut a channel. He said, "The heck with this damming-it-up business; it has to be distributed to the whole world." So he cut the channel so the mercy could flow out to everybody. In this age of Kali-yuga, the members of the Pañca-tattva didn't consider who was a fit or unfit candidate. So, how do we come into a place like this? When I was traveling with one of my senior godbrothers in many places around the dhāms, we used to travel together, and we noticed...(04:17) ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #pilgrimageoftheheart #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Infamously, in Los Angeles, after the Caitanya-caritāmṛta came out, there were some devotees who were overly intelligent, and they thought, “We are going to beat the system by forming a group that would be so exclusive in hearing that we'll only hear pastimes from a particular section of the Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta—and those would have to be mādhurya‑līlā, nothing else. Don't even bring the Bhagavad-gītā into the room.” Prabhupāda said that those devotees who engaged in that were mistaken because they lacked qualification to do such things. Therefore, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta had given a mantra indicating that for those types of topics, we have to be very careful. He said, “We keep them above our heads.” We're down here at 'vāco vegaṁ manasaḥ krodha‑vegaṁ'—you start there, and when Kṛṣṇa wants you, He'll come and get you. That's the mood of cultivating. Spiritual world is 100% bliss, and nobody is left out of anything, because Kṛṣṇa is unlimited. His way of reciprocating with everyone is unlimited. Here we find Yaśodā mentioned as the greatest devotee. We'll find others mentioned as the greatest devotees also. And considering rasa, the gopīs have the thickest and most qualities and ways of serving Kṛṣṇa. And it's not a question of what I want—“What would I be happy with in serving Kṛṣṇa? What do I want?” When one develops and goes through the śānta‑rasa of not being interested in the material world, then comes—as Prabhupāda mentioned—dāsya‑rasa: “Oh, can I do something for You?” Then it thickens at different levels. But as mentioned in the Bṛhad‑bhāgavatāmṛta, every devotee is fully satisfied with their mode of worshiping Kṛṣṇa, but they are also aware of the hierarchy. And they are also very humble, as you'll see from the ways in which Nārada Muni goes to each devotee and asks, “I heard you're the best,” and they reply, “Me? I've got nothing,” and point to the next one. Even coming to the residents of Vṛndāvana—which is where the hierarchy leads to the top—they say, “Who are we? All these devotees are better than us.” (0:46:45) ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #pilgrimageoftheheart #jagannathpuri #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Please try to understand this so that others will take it seriously SB 6.3.31 To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #pilgrimageoftheheart #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
nārada muni, bājāy vīṇā 'rādhikā-ramaṇa'-nāme nāma amani, udita haya, bhakata-gītā-sāme When the great soul Nārada Muni plays his vina, the holy name, Radhika-raman, descends and immediately appears amidst the kirtan of the Lord's devotees. Everything comes from the Supersoul from within. And then, if we know—out of gratitude—we catch it and write it down. It's like, 'Thank You. Thank You, Kṛṣṇa, for giving me that idea.' One unique idea from the Supersoul can change your whole life, and it also gives you fodder for preaching as well; nothing is so powerful as a unique idea that came from the Supersoul to present. If you find it from somebody else, you can make it work. But if you got it yourself—like you're meditating deeply on your japa and it came to you complete—and then you write it down, you have something for life. It can become your 'brand' because Kṛṣṇa gave it to you. And then, when you speak it, there's something different about your voice. So, it's one of the practices Prabhupāda gave us: to always be aware. Prabhupāda had one of these—not the exact brand—but you can see his little notebooks that he carried with him. There's one on display in Vṛndāvana; we'll look at it when we go there. Make a pilgrimage to see the notebook! You can even see his little notations in there about what he wanted to do, thoughts he had, and so forth. But he was always writing. Every day, he wrote something. So, it's important. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Over the past 160 episodes, two themes that have appeared repeatedly feel as relevant and urgent as ever are 1) the pros and dehumanizing cons of technology and 2) approaching suffering in the human experience. In this episode, we are excited to bring back a panel of notable past guests to discuss the interplay between medicine, suffering, technology, and the human experience. We are joined by historian Christine Rosen, PhD, philosopher Mikolaj Slawkowski-Rode, PhD, and palliative care physician Sunita Puri, MD. Rosen is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute whose work is focused on American history, society and culture, technology and culture, and feminism. Slawkowski-Rode is an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Warsaw and research fellow at the University of Oxford with a current emphasis on the philosophy of science and religion. Dr. Puri is a palliative care physician, associate professor at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, and author of the critically acclaimed book That Good Night (2019). As a panel, we consider a prominent aspect of the unwritten curriculum of medicine: how medicine often considers suffering and sorrow to be fixable and their eradication to be a metric of medical success. We explore ways digital technology can make our lives easier without making them better, and the pressing need to define and defend the (non-digital) human experience. We propose that the goal is not to eradicate all suffering, but to reduce needless suffering without denying the forms that accompany love, growth, and moral responsibility. When suffering is treated as an intolerable defect, we can become preoccupied with self-protection and less available to one another. The first and most important gift a caregiver can give is their undivided attention and the biggest mistake we can make in medicine is turning away from suffering. Finally, we ponder if for both patients and physicians, life, in the end, is meant to be a mystery. In this episode, you'll hear about: 6:37 – Unlearning preconceived perspectives on suffering, technology, and human experience. 13:08 – Engaging with digital technology critically instead of presuming that technological progress is inherently good.19:28 – Suffering as an irradicable and sometimes necessary element of the human condition.27:50 – Helping young terminal patients grapple with their diagnosis as a palliative care doctor. 36:36 – How the pursuit of immortality can lead to moral sickness.47:08 – How digital technologies are inciting a collective disembodiment from reality.53:15 – Practices that will positively impact the modern lived experience.Explore our guests' past episodes on The Doctor's Art: Human Experience in A Digital World | Christine Rosen, PhDA Philosophy of Grief | Mikolaj Slawkowski-Rode, PhDThe Beauty of Impermanence | Sunita Puri, MDIf you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe, rate, and review our show wherever you get your podcasts.
