In this weeks Strength Chat episode, I had the opportunity to speak with IPF World Champion, holding the most Open world records, Blaine Sumner. Blaine is at the very top of his game, lifting some crazy weights, having squatted the most weight in IPF history with a 515kg squat back in March! Obviously as spectators, we only see the final lifts on the platform from Blaine. Therefore, in this episode, we chatted about his training, how he manages his fatigue around heavy sessions, as well as his exercise variation in his programmes. On this episode i get a chance to chat with Blaine Sumner! It was a blast having him on and chatting about the different things he has gone through to lift these big weights!
In this week's episode we talk with Blaine Sumner.Blaine made his first big splash on the IPF scene in 2012, first at the Raw Pacific Invitational where he would become the first classic lifter to squat 400kg, setting both the squat and total world records. Then a few months later at the Classic Powerlifting Cup in Sweden, the precursor to Classic Worlds that wouldn’t start until 2013. Blaine came in and put on a show in the SHW class, winning by almost 50kg. Blaine’s accomplishments in classic lifting are certainly not lacking, but are wholly overshadowed by his equipped lifting resume. Blaine is the only person in the IPF to squat over 500kg, or bench over 400kg in a three lift meet and 455kg in a bench only, or to total almost 1300kg. Blaine has held the squat, bench and total world records since 2016. Last but not least he has, as far as I am aware, drank the most chicken of any person on the planet.
Blaine Sumner joins 6 Pack Lapadat to discuss a horrific injury while squatting that almost killed him, his struggling slump on the International scene, a rival from the other side of the World that targeted him in interviews and social media, and his redemption at the 2019 IPF World Championships in Dubai.
In this episode, Joe and Arian do a review of Powerlifting in 2019 and give a brief outlook on 2020. First, they discuss some of the top performances for Squats & Science athletes in 2019. Lifters discussed include Ana Castellain, Maria Htee, Rhaea Stinn, Daniella Melo, Amanda Lawrence, Blaine Sumner, and Ray Williams. They then finish up by looking ahead to what's coming in 2020 for the sport. We're always looking for guests to have on the show, so please contact us if you're interested.
