POPULARITY
Send us a textIn this episode I take you through my 5 essential pedals. These are the ones I use all the time and how I set them up. 1. Compressor PedalWhy it's important: A compressor smooths out the dynamics of your playing by limiting the loudest notes and boosting the quieter ones. It helps create a more consistent sound, adding sustain, punch, and clarity. A great tool for players who want their tone to sound polished and even, especially when fingerpicking or in clean tones.Popular choices: Keeley Compressor, MXR Dyna Comp, Wampler Ego Compressor.2. Overdrive PedalWhy it's important: An overdrive pedal is key for adding warmth and grit to your tone. Whether you're looking for classic bluesy smoothness or heavier, more saturated rock tones, overdrive is essential for shaping your distortion and helping you achieve expressive, dynamic playing.Popular choices: Ibanez Tube Screamer, Fulltone OCD, Boss OD-3.3. Reverb PedalWhy it's important: Reverb creates space and depth by simulating the natural reflections of sound in an environment. Whether you're after subtle room ambiance or lush, expansive reverb tails, this effect is essential for adding dimension to your sound and making your tone feel more alive.Popular choices: Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail, Strymon BigSky, TC Electronic Hall of Fame.4. Graphic EQ PedalWhy it's important: A graphic EQ pedal gives you control over your tone's frequency response, allowing you to shape your sound by boosting or cutting specific frequency bands. It's great for fine-tuning your tone, compensating for room acoustics, or dialing in specific sounds for different musical contexts. It also acts as a powerful tool to carve out space in the mix when playing in a band.Popular choices: Boss GE-7, MXR Ten Band EQ, Behringer EQ700.5. Looper PedalWhy it's important: A looper pedal allows you to record short sections of your playing and loop them in real time, creating layers of sound. This is great for practice, songwriting, or performance, and it enables you to build complex, evolving compositions on the fly. It's a versatile pedal for solo artists and can be used creatively to add texture, rhythm, or melody to your performance.Popular choices: TC Electronic Ditto, Boss RC-3, Electro-Harmonix 720.Honorable Mention: Delay PedalWhy it's important: Delay is often used in conjunction with reverb to add depth, space, and rhythmic complexity. While it's not in your top 5, it's still worth considering for creating ambient soundscapes, rhythmic echo patterns, or lead lines with a sense of movement.Popular choices: Boss DD-7, MXR Carbon Copy, Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail.Download the Triad Method: https://thebluesguitarshow.com/the-triad-method/Support the showTo get your hands on THE TRIAD METHOD: https://thebluesguitarshow.com/product/the-triad-method/Become a Blues Guitar Show Member: https://www.buzzsprout.com/950998/subscribeHead over to www.thebluesguitarshow.com to subscribe to the mailing list

Few are aware of all the sessions he played on that were huge hits for Alabama, George Strait, Jerry Reed, and The Kendalls. In this episode, I cover his early days, move to Nashville, session career, a decade on Nashville Now, and his switch to pedal steel guitar and tours with Waylon Jennings. After last week's Klon, and the birth of boutique episode, I thought about what was my rig was back in the early 90s. Besides the original TS808, that is long gone, I still had all of the pedals I used, and even the plastic Boss BCB6 pedalboard that I used back then. I go through the board, giving a demo, and a bit of history including what they cost new, and what that would be adjusted for inflation now. What is a delay pedal? How is it like a house of mirrors? And how can it help you in your teaching and practice? Listen in as James creates soundscapes on-the-fly with the help of a BOSS DD-5 digital delay.
Delay is one of those plugins that can be deceptively tricky in music production: use too much and it can sound gimmicky; use it without knowing what you're trying to achieve and it can sound silly, and;, not understanding all it's capabilities beyond something that makes things sound... 'echoey'

This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/FWZmr1rE-yM Why do tape delay machines sound sooooo good? It’s a question we are delving into over a series of shows. We kick off with our personal favourite REAL TAPE machines. Erm, our only machines, in fact. Life too short for long YouTube videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below. COVID-19: This video was filmed long before the social distancing measures were advised by various governments across the world. Rest assured that all of us at That Pedal Show began observing social distancing and stay-at-home measures as soon as they were announced. Be well y’all! There’s just something magic about tape echo. Be it an Echoplex, Space Echo, Copicat or what have you, that – literally – magnetic blend of warmth and often idiosyncratic unpredictability is what puts the tear in your eye and the emptiness in your wallet. Both Dan and I have been on a voyage of tape discovery these past months; smitten by the sounds, maddened by the maintenance and confused at the question of why modern pedal simulations just don’t stand up. Or do they? So in this first instalment of (probably) three, we indulge in the tape machines themselves. Consider it a context setting siting lap of what’s to come. In Part 2 we will delve a little more deeply into the single-head Echoplex side of things and a bunch of modern pedals, then follow that up in Part 3 with a similar treatment of the multi-head Space Echo approach. No, we haven’t looked at the European-style Wems/Meazzis etc… maybe that’s one for the future. At present we don’t own any. Off we go then… please enjoy the episode! Sonic Renegades: Exploring Revolutionary Guitar Effects Pedals
In this episode, we take an in-depth look at this pedalboard staple. With a rich 30 year history, it is a pedal that has earned its way into the heart of so many guitarists.

Guys...sometimes the weather gets crazy and dry and the pollen is in the air and I just ate a bunch of cheese and drank a beer...well sometimes you get the sniffles. In Episode 91 of 60 Cycle Hum we start off right away with some new gear chat, specifically the Surfy Bear Reverb and the Boss DD-6. Then we get into a trio of ads...well a duo of ads, a vintage Ibanez TS-808 supposedly owned by Stevie Ray Vaughan and a guitar shaped like the bird. Somewhere in there we talk about the wrong way to ship a guitar. For this week's topic we touch on the subject of jack placement on pedals which turns into a discussion on pedal board layout and whether or not mini-pedals matter if you're using full sized jacks. This week's music was sent in by Will Cobb.
