This time, instead of chatting to a special guest, listeners just like you are joining the conversation. It's a Call-In Show!Over the last couple of months, all kinds of voice messages have been submitted by listeners to act as a springboard for brainstorming, problem solving, and broader discussion around a range of climate communication challenges, observations, and questions. Through the course of this episode, we'll dig into a number of them, exploring themes like framing, psychological distance, climate deadlines, and some fundamentals of climate communications, across formats ranging from social media posts to speeches, and more. But we won't just be pointing out flaws and failures. This is a show about solutions. So, I'll be looking to a kaleidoscope of disciplines and perspectives, as well as the wisdom of previous Communicating Climate Change podcast guests, to find a path forward in each case.If you want to leave a voice message of your own, whether to respond to a topic discussed in this episode or to raise a new one for consideration for the next call-in show, just head over to the Call-In Show page. *Trigger warning - child loss discussed on today's episode** Casey Jones @that.minimalist.mom started her minimalist journey over seven years ago, when she realized that she wanted to spend more quality time with her family, but the excess stuff, commitments, and home management responsibilities were getting in the way of a meaningful life. She decluttered, downsized, and embraced a minimalist lifestyle both in streamlining what she owned but also simplifying her family's schedule and routines. On today's episode we talk about her journey, as well as how the foundation of minimalism and simplicity impacted her navigating the loss of her son Colt and the grieving process that followed. You can connect with Casey on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok where she teaches women to live intentionally, minimally, simply and clutter free to make room for more of what matters. Stress, anxiety, and overwhelm definitely impact how we parent, and if you throw a strong-willed kiddo (or two) into the mix, then parenting becomes even more challenging. Today's guest is Danielle Bettmann. Danielle is a Positive-Discipline certified parenting mentor for families with strong-willed kids age 1-7 and host of the Failing Motherhood podcast. She guides parents to cultivate cooperation, extend their patience and prevent behavior proactively through a group coaching program called Wholeheartedly CALM. A teacher by trade and a coach by strengths, her passion is to be a translator between adult + child, helping parents crack the code of their child's personality and find sanity + strategies. Today, Danielle shares her powerful story about why she ended up downsizing with her two daughters, moving to an apartment and getting rid of 75% of their belongings and, even when she moved into a larger home again, not filling it up with stuff when she recognized the benefits of living with less. We then talk about how to approach parenting with self-awareness, compassion, and without mom guilt, especially when we're overwhelmed and dealing with strong-willed kiddos. Instead of using the physical confines of our home as a barometer for how much we own, and filling our schedules within the confines of the 24 hours we have in a day, we need to look at our capacity, that is, what we can reasonably manage when it comes to our stuff and our time. Do you have piles of paper that are constantly shuffled around from place to place?   Do you lack a system around all the paper coming into your home?   Today I'm sharing my no-fail paper processing routine around the three main categories of paper that my mamas struggle with the most - mail, kids' school papers, and kids' artwork.   Resources Mentioned (may include affiliate links):   The paper tray/inbox I use in my kitchen looks like this one I use the ScanSnap scanner. Mine works with Evernote but they make other models as well. Amazon Basics 12-sheet paper shredder   For mail:   To unsubscribe: For catalogs you don't want, use Catalog Choice. Dmachoice.org to unsubscribe from mailing lists Optoutprescreen.com for credit card solicitations yellowpagesoptout.com for phone books Magazines - depends on the magazine but the company needs to be contacted directly in most cases. If you don't want the physical copy, your local library may have access to magazines through Libby or Overdrive. Mine has 3,900 magazines available!    For kids' school papers:   I use Evernote (especially the Evernote app) to easily capture kids' school work and artwork I want to keep. Here's a short Reel showing you how I use it.   For kids' artwork and crafts:   If artwork doesn't go on my kids' corkboards in their rooms, I leave it in art purgatory for a few months. Then I go through it and will either take a photo using Evernote or throw it away.   I will keep a limited number of items (especially with handprints, etc.) in a physical file folder after I have taken a photo or scanned it.   Other ways to keep your kids artwork is using a system like Artkive and Keepy. They are apps that have paid and free versions that can take your kids' artwork and make art books or framed mosaics out of them.    ***   Have a question about decluttering, simplifying, systems, or anything else we talk about on the podcast? Today I am thrilled to bring you an interview with Dani Watson. Dani is a former first grade teacher turned home decorator. She describes herself as a daughter of the King, wife, boy mom and popcorn enthusiast. She's the host of the #1 ranked home design podcast, fig & farm at home.   What I love about Dani and why I invited her on the show is that she teaches busy moms with REAL homes and REAL budgets how to break free from the Pinterest perfect trap to create a home that tells their story with their style. She also grew up in a cluttered environment, and this really influenced her intentional approach to design and decorating.   As we are decluttering, we want to keep in mind what is most important to us. And that includes asking ourselves how we want our home to feel, and what story we want it to tell. Dani believes that homes are a canvas for storytelling, and learning how to intentionally decorate your home can help make it the restful haven you want it to be, not a cluttered, overwhelming place. And spoiler alert - the secret to intentional design is not buying every throw pillow you can find at Home Goods or Target!   Resources Mentioned:   Dani Watson's Podcast, fig & farm (at home)   Connect with Dani on Instagram or join her Design 101 Facebook Group   Dani's course, Design 101 will be open for enrollment March 16, 2023   My interview on Dani's podcast   Have a question about decluttering, simplifying, systems, or anything else we talk about on the podcast? Death, it turns out and I'm hesitant to talk about death. And it's a very interesting fact, I believe I've interviewed specifically for this podcast, I think 30 to 40 people somewhere in there...open loop, hold that thought. Before I get to it. I want to tell you to make sure to buy a Shure MV 88 mic, buy it through the link in my podcast notes. Get yourself the Shure MV 88 mic, if you're an Apple user, or the Shure MV 88. Plus if you're an Android user. Because you can grab that mic as you walk out the door and are driving in your car or walking or doing a multitude of things. And you can record your episode. And part of producing content for people to consume is recording. So make it easy on yourself. Get the Shure MV 88. It's going to do two things it's going to allow you to record and, and be I get a little kicker, if you buy it through the link in my show notes, and it's a tiny little thing and you pay the same price you would anyway on Amazon. So buy through the link, it's the Amazon link and I get a fee as an Amazon associate. How exciting is that? All right, back to the point of this podcast. Well, before I do that, let me just say that, I can see that people are clicking and not buying. So some of you out there know you should have it. This mic so you can start recording, but they haven't pulled the trigger yet. So pull the trigger. Get the darn mic. Start Recording your episodes consistently. Okay, I'm done.Mischa Zvegintzov  02:24Now, in regards to death, so I've probably interviewed between 30 and 40 people specifically for the podcast. And when I say specifically for the podcast, because I interviewed 20 People for the summit, and I've interviewed five or 10 for my soon to be released new YouTube channel, and podcast rebrand. But of the Bitch Slap official interviews of let's call it 35. Two people have died. Yes. Two of the interviews, two of those people have passed away. No joke. And I think that's crazy. I've been interviewing at the time of this recording. I have been at this podcast for about a year. And two people have passed away, which is very interesting. God bless him. Glenn, the Glenn interview, Glenn. God bless Glen. He's somewhere down there. And then. And, Glen, I can't remember his last name right now, because it's always anonymous. Glen something but look for the Glenn interview. And then Ann Fangio. So Ann Fangio. We were a Christian lady who we were talking about Christians divorce and relationships. And you know, how the religion the religious, faithful can leverage going to hell. Against divorce in bad relationships or whatever. It was a fascinating interview. I totally encourage you to go check it out. But yeah, she passed away. I'm not sure how. But I just saw on the Facebook. And the reason I bring this up is I oftentimes I have an opportunity to mentor people. And oftentimes one of the things I encourage them to do is meditate on death and how powerful that is. And you know, some of the sages and saints out there occurred, encourage said behavior, like gets good Hindu practice, for example, or, you know, some of the Indian like.on Your forehead Indian, no disrespect I shows my ignorance as being from Wyoming. anyway, you get what I'm saying. from the land of India.  They'll encourage you to meditate on death.Mischa Zvegintzov  05:32And meditate on the fact that the way we are going to relate to this world is going to change, it's going to change, there's no way around it. And if you do that, perhaps you can suss out what's truly important, and begin to let go of what's not important. And you can find what's true to you. What's true to you, not true to somebody else. Like if you literally contemplate the fact that your relationship to this world is going to end by what we like to call death, then you can start to get clarity. And I also have found for me that it's helps me take a lot of things that I take seriously. Not so seriously. It helps me free my mind from attachments of how people should be acting.  how my kids should be acting. friends should be acting. associates. or thinking or politicians or whatever it really, for me, can shift my perspective. And I love it. And it's it does it for me in a good way. Now, for someone else. Who knows. But I like to do it. And I recommend that people do it. And sages over the centuries, and millennia recommend that people do it. So it's not a new idea. I've done it I had a sponsor told me meditate on death, or a mentor. Misha meditate on death. And it is, again, freed me of a lot of false expectations of a lot of expectations of my self. That's allowed me I think one of the best things this is in the space I'm in right now. It's allowed me to find what's important to Misha. And so I can move towards that. Letting go of other people's expectations of me, society's what I believe our society's expectations of me. You know, loved ones expectations of me. Like it can help give so much clarity. And yeah, and I've seen it help other people. Yeah. And then lastly, I'll say it again, help you not helps me not take things so seriously.Mischa Zvegintzov  08:32And lastly it removes it starts to remove this idea of separation. Like gives me a glimpse it has given me personally a glimpse into the the truth that we are not separate, that we are all one. And what a powerful concept that is.  Iused to take that concept very lightly. I don't know if lightly is the right word, but not give it much weight or gravitas or take it seriously. And I find that I take it much more. It provides me much more freedom, like it gives me insight that it takes all the leaves on the tree to make the tree beautiful. Right. So if you're looking at the individual leaf, or the individual human, we see the flaws. But if we can step back and see all the shimmering leaves, and if you step back far enough, like almost every trees beautiful. to me anyway, that's me. It's an insight that has been given me. And lastly, as I'm into my 50s now as I record this years old right And I interview people that are perhaps in my age bracket or older than me. Well, people, odds are your time's coming sooner than the youth. So it's a total statistics. It's a it's a it's a matter of statistics. Yeah. I just such such an interesting thing that a couple people that I've interviewed have passed. That's what I've got for you don't take life so seriously. meditate on death, and who knows what the results can bring. I found it very useful in my life. Love to all
