The latest episode of Blues is the Truth is live, hosted as always by Ian McHugh and proudly sponsored by the Tuesday Night Blues Jam at the Rising Sun, Isleworth. This week's show is packed with the regular features you love, plus some very special news — there's gig news to share and details of a brand new festival being planned in tribute to the late, great Robert Hokum. The music is as rich and varied as ever. You'll hear the guitar mastery of Duke Robillard, the unforgettable partnership of Monster Mike Welch and Mike Ledbetter, and the soulful fire of Larry McCray. Blues royalty is in the spotlight with tracks from BB King, Buddy Guy, Freddie King, Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the one and only Muddy Waters. The British scene is well represented too, with the Chris Corcoran Trio, Robert Hokum and Devil Drives, Connie Lush, Michael Messer, Dave Kelly, Kai Strauss, and Chris Youlden and the Slammers all stepping up to the plate. You'll also catch standout performances from Doyle Bramhall II, Gary Moore, Eric Clapton, The Forty4s, John Lee Hooker, Coco Montoya, and the team-up of Jimmie Vaughan and Omar Kent Dykes. It's a show that mixes legends with modern greats, delivers plenty of news alongside the music, and celebrates the very best in blues from both sides of the Atlantic.

We read some emails and I got to sit down with the legend! IDGAF Foods (aka the guy behind eating hot dogs off the floor on Instagram) for a brutally honest trip through his addiction, art, and recovery. From smoking crack at 15 in Manchester, CT, to guzzling buckets of Molly and shards of ketamine out of Kahlua bottles, to swallowing and later digging through his own shit for balloons of drugs, his story is a nonstop circus of chaos. He dodged arrests, hustled Oxy 80s and Hartford heroin, spent $500 a day chasing tar and Roxies in Utah, and somehow never got caught.Out of the madness came art: digital psychedelia, album covers for major bands, and eventually his IDGAF Foods account—where eating sketchy food became exposure therapy and a way to help addicts. Along the way: scam hustles, OCD hand-washing, sitting in trees at parties to dodge cops, exposure therapy with oat milk, Jimmy Fallon holding up his artwork, and a grandmother calling him an idiot. Now clean since 2012, he's turned the insanity into purpose, with IDGAF Foods helping people avoid relapse by saying “Don't Be a Fucking Pussy.”All that and more on this brand new episode of that good old Dopey Show!

This week, Paul continues the deep dive into blues guitar, building on foundation concepts from Episode 245. The focus shifts to soloing over a major blues progression—specifically, what scales to use, how to target chord tones, and the techniques that legendary blues artists like B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan employ in their solos.Key Topics CoveredRecap: Major vs. Minor Blues (12-Bar Blues Structure)Definition and structure of a 12-bar major blues progression using dominant 7 chords (A7, D7, E7).Why the turnaround bar matters, and options for looping or finishing the progression.Foundational Scale for SoloingWhy the A minor pentatonic scale (A, C, D, E, G) works so well, even over major blues progressions. The “bluesy” tension created by overlapping the scale's minor third (C) against the chord's major third (C#).Targeting Chord Tones for More Musical SolosRoot, third, and flat 7th notes of each dominant 7 chord (A7, D7, E7).How to start by simply hitting the root notes as the chords change, or add more complexity by incorporating other chord tones.Examples: bending C to C# for A7, sliding to F# for D7, emphasizing B for E7.Making Your Solos Sound More Interesting: Advanced Scale ChoicesMajor Pentatonic Scale: Adds brightness and connects with more chord tones.Blues Scale: Introduces the flat five (the “devil's note” for added tension).Mixolydian Mode: A sophisticated, more “perfect” match for dominant 7 chords.Blues Soloing Approaches of the LegendsB.B. King: Simple, expressive phrases in the “BB box,” blending major and minor pentatonic. Focuses on bending and vibrato over flashy scale runs.Stevie Ray Vaughan: Aggressive mixing of major and minor pentatonic, with embellishments like hammers, pull-offs, and expressive picking.Eric Clapton: Known for chord tone targeting, major-minor pentatonic blends, and signature licks that follow the progression.Practice TipsStart by jamming over backing tracks with A minor pentatonic.Progress to targeting root notes and other chord tones as the progression changes.Add in extra notes from the major pentatonic, blues scale, or Mixolydian mode as you become comfortable.Don't rush—focus on phrasing, feel, and emotion, not just speed and complexity.Resources & RecommendationsBacking Tracks & Playlists:Academy members: Check the dashboard's backing tracks section for new major and minor blues tracks. Stevie Ray Vaughan Discusses Drugs and AlcoholAbout M2 THE ROCK - MICHAEL MOLTHAN:I'm Michael Molthan, host of The M2 The Rock Show—one of the fastest-growing podcasts and shows on self-improvement, mental health, addiction recovery, and spiritual transformation. I'm so grateful you're here.I started M2 The Rock in 2017 to bring you conversations designed to make you happier, healthier, and more healed. Through raw and unfiltered discussions with experts, celebrities, thought leaders, and athletes, we uncover new perspectives on personal growth, recovery, and overcoming life's toughest challenges. My Story:What sets my journey apart is that there wasn't just one rock bottom—there were many. From being a successful luxury homebuilder to falling into addiction, homelessness, crime, and eventually 27 mugshots and prison, my life was in absolute chaos.Addiction was my temporary escape from childhood trauma, but it only led to destruction. It wasn't until I hit the lowest point imaginable that I finally found true freedom, redemption, and purpose. After an unexpected early release from prison in 2017, I walked 300 miles back to Dallas to turn myself in—only to be miraculously pardoned and told to “pay it forward.”And that's exactly what I've been doing ever since. My MissionI believe that rock bottom is not the end—it's a stepping stone to something greater. My goal is to redefine what "rock bottom" means by helping others rebuild their Spirit, Mind, and Body. On M2 The Rock, I speak openly about trauma, addiction, recovery, and the power of transformation. I don't shy away from topics like:✅ Trauma & Addiction – Understanding the root causes✅ Self-Sabotage & Mental Health – Breaking negative cycles✅ Codependency & Enabling – How relationships impact recovery✅ 12-Step Programs & Spiritual Healing – Finding true freedom✅ Religious Trauma & Personal Growth – Healing from past wounds"Everyone Is An Addict."Whether it's substances, work, validation, or negative thinking, we all have something we struggle with. But recovery is possible, and transformation is real.

*The music in this video is copyrighted and all rights reserved to the respective copyright holders* In this nostalgia-packed third episode of The Audio Files, Brad Zerbo and Jaytriot are joined by special guest Abbey Blue Eyes for a spirited dive into music, memories, and mayhem. The trio kicks things off with throwback tracks from Louis Prima and New Order, spinning stories of 1950s Vegas lounge acts and synth-heavy 1980s dance festivals. Abbey shares her passion for electronic music with a haunting track from Delta Heavy, while the crew reflects on the evolution of music accessibility and the fading art of album discovery. Things take a rowdy turn with a crash course in mosh pit culture, complete with Slayer war stories, wall-of-death chaos, and comedy relief from Jim Breuer's legendary metal bit. The episode also features heartfelt dedications to veterans, a spotlight on the late, great Eric Carmen as the inaugural “Based Artist of the Week,” and listener-submitted tracks including a fiery live performance from Stevie Ray Vaughan. With laughs, live memories, and lots of musical love, this episode blends pop culture deep dives, metal mayhem, and red-pilled reflections into a truly unique listening experience. We discuss a new report from health economist Vivian Ho.And we remember our colleague, longtime Texas radio newsman Matt Thomas, who died on Wednesday after a brief illness. Also this hour: We talk about efforts to deal with what's known as the “corridor of cruelty,” an area in Houston that has become a dumping ground for abandoned stray dogs and cats. Then, with Cinco de Mayo coming up next week, we revisit a 2024 conversation about how many holidays get co-opted, and how we can turn cultural appropriation into appreciation. (But also drink. And sell mattresses). And Kenny Wayne Shepherd became a star blues guitarist as a teenager, drawing comparisons to another three-named performer, the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughn. We learn why Shepherd's choice to go by three names had nothing to do with emulating Vaughn and discuss the lessons he's learned from touring with another blues legend, 91-year-old Bobby Rush ahead of their Sunday concert at House of Blues.
