From going on tour and the stakes of performing live, to content creation and playing the long game. Listen to Cam Meekins on The Longhairs Podcast, as we throw down some flow with the Boston rapper and content creator in Episode 31 of Let It Ride. What you'll hear about: Cam’s first show, opening for Fashawn in Boston Growing an internet-based fan base in the music industry Performing with confidence Creating content—not just music Putting in the work, staying consistent and doing the fundamental things every day Let It Ride is sponsored by Hair Ties For Guys, the finest hair ties in the world.
Depending on the day of the week Cam Meekins might be wearing one of a handful of hats. He’s a rapper, producer, entrepreneur and enthusiast who loves to create. He was raised in Wellesley, MA and was the youngest of five children. At 15 he was involved in a life threatening jet ski accident that completely changed his perspective of the world and so he began to go all in on music because of it. By the age of 17 he really started to gain some traction and kept running with it. At one point he had a short deal with Atlantic Records and eventually launched his own label, Lamp City Records which is still running today. Music has provided him with a platform to talk about what he’s currently going through in his life and he feels it’s his responsibility to use the art as a way to express the wins, losses and everything in between. He enjoys vlogging the behind the scenes of his life, has invested money into his brothers English Muffin company and wants to continue to grow in the entrepreneur world and invest in other people's ideas. At the end of the day, he would like to leave a lot more on this earth than he took from it. — You can follow Cam here: Instagram: @CamMeekins (https://www.instagram.com/cammeekins/) Twitter: @CamMeekins (https://twitter.com/CamMeekins) YouTube: Cam Meekins (https://www.youtube.com/user/CamMeekinsProd09) Spotify: (https://open.spotify.com/artist/0wNuUG1alVKXEEiwEypprs) Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for new interviews (and more) weekly: http://bit.ly/2zprpon Follow us on Soundcloud: http://bit.ly/2hcSBws Subscribe to iTunes: http://apple.co/2yE0u9l Follow us on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2j82AHF Follow Bobbbaaaay on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2Ap24ce Twitter: http://bit.ly/2hj6Ljm
Episode 32: During his sophomore year at Boston University, Tim saw an opportunity to bridge the rest of the world with the Boston music scene. He had just seen one of his first shows, Wiz Khalifa at the Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge, MA. Tim always enjoyed writing growing up, had a good taste for music and recognized he could be part of the scene and not just a fan. A year and a half later after launching his blog, The Fresh Heir, he had written over 1,500+ articles, album reviews, reviews of shows he had attended, and more- all by himself- and was creating as much content as possible. All the while he was slowly beginning to build genuine relationships with people in the industry. He booked Chance The Rapper his very first show in the city (who is now headlining Boston Calling music festival in May!), he has played a role in creative direction and management for artists like Cam Meekins, Cousin Stizz, Michael Christmas and many more. One of the main reasons he has gotten to where he is today is because he has never chased the money, he’s only chased after what his passions have been. Tim elaborates on some of the biggest moments of his career to date-achievements like selling out Paradise Rock Club two weeks before the show and waking up to a text of a video of Drake on his birthday with the OVO crew bumping “Shoutout”, a Stizz record. We talk about planning for the long-run, letting relationships build naturally and organically, being patient and letting life take its course, not burning bridges, the perspective that luck is when preparation meets opportunity, and the idea of just starting something but being a student willing to study and learn. — Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for new interviews (and more) weekly: http://bit.ly/2zprpon Follow us on Soundcloud: http://bit.ly/2hcSBws Subscribe to iTunes: http://apple.co/2yE0u9l Follow us on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2j82AHF Follow Bobbbaaaay on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2Ap24ce Twitter: http://bit.ly/2hj6Ljm
From Lamp City Studios, Cam Meekins and SJ Petteruti touch on a wide range of issues from politics, art and culture, to their ridiculous daily lives.
I kick things off my doing some serious reminiscing - shout out to Andy Bonfilio for putting me onto Tribe Called Quest in high school - and then bring on Tim Larew to talk about his work managing Michael Christmas and others, his experience with major labels, and what it means to be a "manager" in 2015. Discussed This Week: * As always, shouts to Tino for that dope theme song. * Yoh's piece on the best music year of his life got me thinking - what's the best music year of my life? It'd have to be...junior/senior year of high school when I really had my mind blown by Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, the Roots and more. What was the best music year of your life? * I bring on Tim Larew to talk about how he got his start in Boston, his involvement in Cam Meekins mindie deal, how he ended up managing Michael Christmas and others, and what it means to be a young "manager" in 2015.
