This is the first song of the new album I'm starting. I mean, okay, yeah, it's a boring old love song - that's not too exciting a start to an album. But, bear with me... when you hear the second song (which I haven't recorded yet), you'll get to see just how weird this old concept album is going to be. Or, at least, I hope it turns out weird. It's about a f***ed up relationship I was in 20 years ago. That's all I'll say for now cuz I don't wanna ruin the surprise of the next song, where the concept of the album will become clear. Stay tuned!

"I wanna be good to you Jaie-bies...call me crazy but I think we found a podcast for life" Jazmine Marie Sullivan (born April 9, 1987) is an American singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, her debut album, Fearless, was released in 2008 to commercial and critical success. The record topped Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It spawned four singles, including "Need U Bad" and "Bust Your Windows", both of which peaked in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the former of which became Sullivan's first and only number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Sullivan followed this with her second studio album, Love Me Back, in 2010, which was received favorably by critics. After taking a three-year break, Sullivan signed with RCA Records and released her first studio album under the label, Reality Show, in 2015, and it became her second album to peak at number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 2021, she released her critically acclaimed first EP, Heaux Tales, which spawned the single "Pick Up Your Feelings". Sullivan has received one Billboard Women in Music Award, two Soul Train Music Awards and two BET Awards over the course of her career. She has also received 15 Grammy nominations, tying with Björk as the female artist with the most Grammy nominations without winning. sent $$$ this week to Save the Omni Commons.omnicommons.org / gf.me/u/ykrbkt“Four years ago, the collectives that make up the Omni Commons obtained a loan to purchase the building at 4799 Shattuck Avenue in North Oakland. Since then, we have offered event space to the wider community and workspace to collectives on a sliding-scale basis. The Shelter-in-Place order issued in mid-March in response to the pandemic, as well as subsequent restrictions, have prohibited the gatherings that rent our event space and provide half of the income to make our monthly loan payments and keep the Omni Commons open.We have been able to keep the building open for the essential services that some of our collectives provide to the community. Additionally, we collaborated in forming the North Oakland Mutual Aid Drive together with other community organizations. The Omni has become a local distribution site for the curbside and low-income communities, disproportionately people of color, in North Oakland. We’re using our ballroom and entrance hall to gather canned food, water, masks, hand sanitizer and other items, and then distribute these items to those who need them. While the Omni Commons continues to keep the building open for our collectives to offer essential services, we now face a big challenge. In the midst of pandemic restrictions limiting our income, we must refinance the original five-year loan on the building by May 1, 2021. We’re working hard to save enough money to show lenders that we are able to make loan payments until restrictions are lifted and it’s safe to open up event rentals again. So, we’re asking you, our friends and supporters, to make a generous contribution to our GoFundMe campaign to Save the Omni Commons. If you can make a contribution to help us through this crisis, we will thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”DOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)TV Ugly “Trash Party Island” UCLA Yankee ColaCharlyne Yi “The Saddest Clarinet in the World” Woman of the SeaHot Missoury “Who cooks for you?” Kitchen Folktweedle “kill bros” dear diaryheaPink Grapefruit “Give Me Home” Alien InvasionCellular Chaos “Gaslight” Dirty GirlLily McKown “Leftover Dimes” Count The Death Rate Over The Birth EPMoonfich “Helium Balloon” Moon The FichPac and Seep “One” Cap and PieceThe Pink Noise “Crystal Ball, Crystal Skull” BirdlandGia Margaret “Birthday (demo)” BeforeBeatles HC “Q&A” Beatles HCleor miller “lazy” GIRL (split w/ Francie Cool)Posse “Dream Sequence” Horse BlanketScammers “Love Me Back” love is a rough stone cutStay Cool Forever “hOodie MeLo” Current Songs4 The SeancePower Snuggle “Jack” Cop A FeelingScary Balance “Pretty Things” what’s up, day?dad thighs “sometimes underwater” easy listening

Today’s guest is a self-proclaimed “book glutton” who reads in between everyday moments at home, at work, and even while she’s walking. Grettel Castro is a biostatistician living in Miami, Florida. In this week's episode, we're featuring the first album in fourteen years from bayou-dweller John Mark Davis: "Bayou Self Sessions" (2018). John Mark Davis was gigging in and around the Beaumont/Port Arthur region in Texas at the same time that Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Byrd and Clay Walker were getting signed to major labels out of Nashville. They shared many of the same clubs, booking agents and contacts: the opportunity and talent to make it big was there. However the responsibility of a young family kept John Mark Davis living on the bayou, providing for a wife and two small children. Three decades later Davis' "Bayou Self Sessions" was born, an extraordinarily good collection of twelve traditional country tracks, including ten originals. Completed between Port-Neches, TX and Covington, GA and in direct consultation with his enthusiastic fanbase, this release runs the gamut from overwhelming tearjerkers to songs of hope and resilience; drinking anthems and tributes to the way it used to be. With prolific tele twang and steel guitar whine, highlights include the devastating "Love Me Back", another tearjerker written by John Mark Davis' younger brother Greg Chief Davis in "Together Alone" and the excellent harmonica cameo in "As Long As You Believe In Me". The timing wasn't right the first time around for John Mark Davis.. but it is now.

Deardra Shuler talks with R&B soul man and Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Kenny Lattimore known for “Love Me Back" an engaging mix of ballads and mid-tempos includes “Find a Way,” the powerful “Heart Stops” and the smoky, sensuous “Nothing Like You.” The latter song features the sparkling vocals of Grammy Award winner Lalah Hathaway. His signature song” “For You” became an instant top 10 hit. A Washington, D.C. native, Lattimore was raised on gospel music and such R&B/pop icons as Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. His freshman year at Howard University gave way to Lattimore becoming the lead singer for R&B group Maniquin. He signed to Epic, where Kenny and the group released the single “I Wanna Ride,” produced by the Gap Band’s Charlie Wilson. Lattimore’s body of work includes his critically acclaimed sophomore album From the Soul of a Man and two top-10 charting duet albums with singer Chanté Moore: Things That Lovers Do and the gospel/R&B double-CD Uncovered/Covered. Lattimore’s last solo project was the 2008 covers album Timeless. Lattimore will be performing at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday March 26 at 8pm with Jon B and Dru Hill. For tickets call 718-960-8833.
We're ringing in 2015 with a bit of flair by way of some updates to the podcast, and we trust that everyone is as excited as we are for some of the changes we're making for the New Year! With the Holidays now squarely behind us, we take some time to revisit the year for a bit and also cover what we've been up to for the past month - which turned into far, far more than either of us had originally thought. I've (Whitney) been hammering on the ZooKeeper resto project and cabbaging as many tube swap candidates that I can find. Brent on the other hand has been BUSY.. so much so that I thought we'd have to split his updates out into a separate episode! Speaking of, he goes on the road for our first interview - New Years Eve @ The Place, Retro Arcade and not only talks with owner Cary Chaney and world-record holder Estel Goffinet (and laments why arcade games just don't seem to like him very much) as well as some of the most important (and often under-appreciated) people in the hobby - Arcade Wives! In an interview double-header, we sit down with the guys from the Louisville Arcade Expo and cover what to expect from this years' show as well as catch up on general happenings in the show circuit and discuss the special guests (David Crane and more!) that will be making an appearance in Louisville in March 2015. The post Episode 22 – I love them, but they don’t love me back first appeared on Brokentoken.com.

Merritt Tierce is the guest. Her debut novel Love Me Back is now available from Doubleday. The Oxford American says “What’s so compelling about this compulsively readable yet highly literary novel is not the 'unflinching' depiction of Marie’s behavior—though it’s crafted so carefully that readers want to consume each detail—but instead the beautifully plain and unsentimental access Tierce gives us to her protagonist’s interior…How rare it is to find a writer who can encapsulate a character’s sweeping motivation in a page or paragraph or single sentence…Tierce’s magnetic portrayal of a woman whose behavior is conventionally allowed only of men announces Tierce as a writer we’ve been waiting for for much too long." And Carrie Brownstein says “Tierce's prose possesses the force, bluntness and surprise of a sucker punch. Love Me Back is an unflinching and galvanic novel full of heart and heartache; one of my favorite books of the last few years.” Monologue topics: the darkness of the past week, literary media, Ed Champion, Stephen Tully Dierks, Tao Lin, Emily Gould, Porochista Khakpour, Twitter, ambivalence, flailing. There are 2.4 million waiters and waitresses now working in America. Why have our narratives failed to confront the realities of working in a restaurant? Merritt Pierce, author of LOVE ME BACK, joins us to discuss working-class narratives, the male gaze, abortion, and women as second-class citizens. This show also includes a strong critique of 2 BROKE GIRLS and one of the most startling on-air gaffes in Bat Segundo's history.
