The world loves transformation - to change or optimize something. Lots of things can motivate you to change, be it shame, guilt, peer pressure, even a motivational speech. Those things will transform you in a way or for a time, but nothing can transform you like God can transform you. Romans 2:4 says, “Don't you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can't you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?"God's mode of transformation in people's lives is by his kindness, inviting everyone into the fullest kind of life with him. Do you have a story like that? Do you want a story like that? Hear and celebrate stories from the people of Canyon Ridge, reminding people about the vast story that God wants to write in everyone. As you listen, write down what questions emerge and discover who God wants to transform you to become with him!

Takeaways – Life. Lessons. Learned. In his own words, Dr. Kevin Odor is, “One of the few that leads the few that lead the many.” Formerly the senior pastor at Canyon Ridge Church, Kevin has spent years serving those he shepherds. After retiring from the church, he made the natural transition to continue his leadership journey as a full-time chair and executive coach with Vistage International. What does it mean to Thrive? Vistage, whose name blends the words “Vista” and “Advantage”, is an executive coaching and peer advisory organization. Kevin began working with the company as a member 17 years ago, during his pastoral years. After leading his own succession at Canyon Ridge, Kevin discovered working with executives and helping them thrive as full-hearted leaders to be incredibly fulfilling. Kevin has a unique perspective on the theme of “thriving”, specifically thriving with a full heart. Learning the “put your mask on first” is important for anyone that is working themselves too hard. You have to first take leadership of yourself before you can help others effectively. Givers in our lives pour out into us but if they aren't actively replenishing themselves and working to balance their own needs with the needs of others, the result can be burnout and a stressful life. Kevin explains that there are four major funnels that impact having a full heart: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Taking care of each of those areas can lead to a more fulfilling, healthier balance in life. Key Takeaway: How to Thrive in Leadership According to Kevin, replenishment activities, rest and recovery gives you an advantage. Part of that advantage is that you make better decisions, have better results, and have a more fulfilling life. Kevin is a personal mentor to me, and I've had the honor of interviewing him twice now. The wisdom he shares with business executives is endless. In this episode of Takeaways, Kevin shares some of his wealth of knowledge and offers practical advice on how to live a life with a full heart. Takeaways From This Episode Key takeaways in this informative episode include: - What is a full-hearted leader? - How does “Stinkin' Thinkin” hurt your ability to lead effectively? - What seven spheres of influence shape culture and how are they important? - When is being a “giver” harmful rather than helpful? What can we, the Church, learn from Uber? AirBNB? We're 100+ days into this COVID thing. Our buildings aren't getting much usage. In some areas (like where I am in Florida) we're actually worse now than ever. In that same vein, I had a pastor tell me recently, “Jeff, we really can't pause the ministry of the Church any longer. We've been in slow motion since COVID started, and we've got to ramp up again.” I love the idea of the Church doing ministry in this season, and while the perceived technological limitations of Church in COVID season may be limiting us, what it's actually doing is giving us… the Church… a prime opportunity to work on what's next: Church As Platform. The fourth in a series of, well, intentional podcasts meant to help you reshape your view of Church. Jeff and Rey bring in Doug Parks, Co-Author of Intentional Churches and Executive Pastor of Canyon Ridge in Las Vegas. Topic? Uber owns no taxi's, yet revolutionized ride-sharing. AirBNB owns no property, yet is going toe-to-toe with hotels around the world? Why? Because these businesses learned that property is a lid of growth… they lifted the lid by giving the business to the people. Church, what if we gave the church's ministry exclusively to the people? This is the conversation we're beginning here, on The Church Digital Podcast. COMPLETE SHOW NOTES AVAILABLE AT THECHURCH.DIGITAL. I am blessed to be around remarkable people. There are always Takeaways to learn. That is what I am sharing on this podcast. Takeaways – Life. Lessons. Learned. explores learning from the wisdom of others. Kevin Odor is the Senior Pastor at Canyon Ridge Church. He moved to Las Vegas from Ohio in 1993 with his wife Ginger and 3 children. He was "called" to seed an offshoot of Central Christian Church on the west side of town. About 700 people attended the first service. These days Canyon Ridge's 40 acre campus on Lone Mountain attracts an average of 6,800 people to church services EVERY Sunday! Guess how many people attend on Christmas or Easter... 15,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What becomes apparent in this episode is how much Kevin sounds like a business executive as much as a Pastor. He talks about Peter Drucker, Jim Collins and the Paterson Process Life Plan. What can you learn from a person like Kevin? Here are just a few of the Takeaways that we discussed on this episode. • What was the most important thing his Father modeled for him - hint it wasn't work ethic? • Why you should design your business to attract the unchurched, a.k.a Joe Six Pack? • What does it mean to use intentional language? Another thing Kevin and I talk about is a sermon he gave where he explained how I pastored him. It was part of a series called Try This at Home. The first 4 minutes of the sermon is Kevin telling the story of our interaction. The rest of the sermon is very well worth listening to! There is a lot here. In fact, its the longest Takeaways episode we've ever recorded. I hope you enjoy!
