But as we looked at our workforce, we realized that many of our employees are over 50, some over 60 and some are even 70 and over. And what we find with these employees is they have a wealth of knowledge. They are so experienced, they've worked in so many different industries, and they can really add a ton of value to our clients. And so if we can capture these people's attention and get them to work with us on hours that make sense for them, whether it's 16 hours a week or 30 hours a week or somewhere in between, it is incredibly efficient. It is such a huge value add to our clients. The employees themselves really get a chance to work for different companies and not fully retire but still be engaged and many of them say, keeps them young." How are you seeing God's gifts in your life? In this episode, Jeff, Jeff, and Greg discuss: Learning young to show Christian love. The ups and downs of running a family business.  Getting involved directly in your giving. Using God's blessings as a model for the future generations.   Key Takeaways: The best family businesses often bring in third-party facilitators to help define roles and expectations clearly which can help them run more smoothly. Leave room for God to work within you and through you. Use meal times for good. This is a time when families can come together, build foundations, and follow after Jesus. The more you can cut your ego out of what you do, the better off you will be. Everything we have and everything we are is because of God. He is good and he blesses us."Fight any correlation you might have between gifts and worthiness. He is the founder and president of MainSpring Sales Group. Lowder has worked with over sixty companies and independent trusted advisors increase first-year annual sales from 21 to 142 percent. He speaks extensively on the topics “The Star Guide for Smooth Selling ForeverTM, “Smooth Selling ForeverTM ... Charting your Company's Course for Predictable and Sustainable Sales Growth” and the “NavSTAR Client AcquisitionTM System” for many groups and associations. Groups include Vistage International, the world's largest CEO peer-to-peer association, and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA). Craig has also been featured at Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) group events. Can you share with our listeners what the six stars are of the NAVSTAR client acquisition system that helped generate significant predictable and sustainable new client growth?Absolutely. Like the ancient mariners, they had to chart their course and they followed the stars. Based on a 40-year track record of trial and error and learning, I came up with this system that I believe everyone either in sales or as a trusted advisor should follow. It starts with targeting the right fit clients or customers that you're seeking. It's foundational. If you don't get that right, you can't get any of the other five stars right. How do we shorten that sales cycle? Do you have some advice on that? Number one- Know your buyer journey. Everything starts with a buyer journey. Put your customer hat on your target audience and say, "If I were to make a decision for my products or services, what step would I go through?"Then you need to choreograph the dance, build the sales mapping process from the customer's point of view. Because of the lead conversion process, we want to be going down the road in the same direction, at the same speed that our prospective client is going. maybe a little bit ahead of them in being able to offer them A and B chocolate or vanilla options in order to guide them in terms of making an informed purchasing decision for themselves. Because in many cases they haven't purchased from someone like us maybe forever. Maybe it's been 3 to 5 years and they don't know how to purchase. So we have to guide them through the process. The third thing is because of the pandemic and there was a great article that was put out by McKinsey right and was November of 2020 after an associate of mine, and Lori knows him, put me in Forbes talking about what's going on in the virtual world. And as I say today, we're in a virtual selling world. And digital self-serve is the driver. And in the McKinsey report, which was shocking, I think, to a lot of people, do you think the sellers are driving virtual selling? No, the buyers are buying virtual selling. And so much more… Connect with Craig!LinkedInSmooth Selling Forevercraig@smoothsellingforever.com (630)649-4943Smooth Selling Forever: Charting Your Company's Course for Predictable and Sustainable Sales Growth

Imagine you're my guest for a moment. You're 11 years old, and for as long as you can remember, you have ridden on your grandfather's shoulders as he recounted tales of the family businesses' trials and tribulations, while walking you through your family's property and buildings. Your grandfather frequently shares with pride: “Reg, one day, you'll own all of this.” Then suddenly, at 11 years old, you get a call. Your grandfather had an accident and has died. Stunned, you watch a family war break out in front of your eyes. Your family is torn apart – brother against brother, cousin against cousin – and your father is expected to take over the company at an age far younger than he ever anticipated. Now you're an adult? What would you do? My guest today, Reg Athwal, chose to become the bridge that brought his family back together. And now, because of his experience watching a family business be torn apart and then reconciled, he now breaks the code on running successful family businesses. Reg is the Founder & Chairman of RTS Global Partners and Founder & Chief Educator of the Family Business Academy, and he has privately advised 200+ family-owned businesses and family offices in 25 countries over 2 decades. “Only 3% of businesses get to the 4th generation. One of the longest standing family businesses in the US is the Shirley Plantation. There is a family business in Japan that is on the 43rd generation! How did they do this? There are three things everyone must have to build a legacy…” – Reg AthwalWhat are the key factors that determine the success of a multi-generational family business? Reg cracks the code for us today. We listen to his experience and perspective on: • What parents/grandparents can do to help their children “catch the fire” to take over the company • What Reg's family does to ensure each child is encouraged to developed entrepreneurial and leadership skills of their own • The largest pitfalls many family businesses face that cause them to fail • Ways to create harmony and unity in the family, including a core set of values As someone who runs my own family business (real estate and property management), I have experienced the exact challenges + joys that Reg dissects for us today! ------------------ Connect with Reg! Takeaways – Life. Lessons. Learned. In his own words, Dr. Kevin Odor is, “One of the few that leads the few that lead the many.” Formerly the senior pastor at Canyon Ridge Church, Kevin has spent years serving those he shepherds. After retiring from the church, he made the natural transition to continue his leadership journey as a full-time chair and executive coach with Vistage International. What does it mean to Thrive? Vistage, whose name blends the words “Vista” and “Advantage”, is an executive coaching and peer advisory organization. Kevin began working with the company as a member 17 years ago, during his pastoral years. After leading his own succession at Canyon Ridge, Kevin discovered working with executives and helping them thrive as full-hearted leaders to be incredibly fulfilling. Kevin has a unique perspective on the theme of “thriving”, specifically thriving with a full heart. Learning the “put your mask on first” is important for anyone that is working themselves too hard. You have to first take leadership of yourself before you can help others effectively. Givers in our lives pour out into us but if they aren't actively replenishing themselves and working to balance their own needs with the needs of others, the result can be burnout and a stressful life. Kevin explains that there are four major funnels that impact having a full heart: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Taking care of each of those areas can lead to a more fulfilling, healthier balance in life. Key Takeaway: How to Thrive in Leadership According to Kevin, replenishment activities, rest and recovery gives you an advantage. Part of that advantage is that you make better decisions, have better results, and have a more fulfilling life. Kevin is a personal mentor to me, and I've had the honor of interviewing him twice now. The wisdom he shares with business executives is endless. In this episode of Takeaways, Kevin shares some of his wealth of knowledge and offers practical advice on how to live a life with a full heart. Takeaways From This Episode Key takeaways in this informative episode include: - What is a full-hearted leader? - How does “Stinkin' Thinkin” hurt your ability to lead effectively? - What seven spheres of influence shape culture and how are they important? - When is being a “giver” harmful rather than helpful? Endlessly curious about the origin of legends and myths, he is considered a global authority on the creation of iconic, “larger-than-life” brands that attract legions of customers and top talent – without having to use “pushy” marketing tactics. Some organizations he has worked with have achieved 15-30X financial growth while becoming a much coveted and highly desirable “Category of One”. His fascination with “legends” likely dates back to the age of 11, watching the “Immaculate Reception”, December 23, 1972, as Franco Harris galloped into NFL history. Today, that curiosity extends to dissecting how the world's top brands become - simply irresistible. Everything from Apple & AC/DC to Lulu Lemon and Led Zeppelin. Specifically, his research focuses on small, but mighty giants that exert the same magnetic, pulling power similar to what NIKE does with shoes and Harley Davidson with motorcycles. These “Big Little Legends” include historic Café Du Monde in New Orleans; world famous, Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle and Webers on Highway 11 in Northern Ontario. Gair's riveting keynote presentations and hands-on workshops are packed with real-life stories supported by decades of in-the-trenches business experience. Described as a “shock stick of energy”, Gair delivers electrifying, uplifting presentations – both live and virtual - that inspire everyday people to stand apart from the crowd, unleash their inner greatness and build an enduring legacy. He has worked with some of the world's most dynamic organizations, including the Apple Specialist Marketing Group, Caterpillar, NAPA, Leo Burnett (Taiwan), Virginia Tech and others, while sharing conference stages with business icons such as Richard Branson and Gene Simmons. His accomplishments include: • Awarded “Speaker of the Year” by TEC Canada. • Recognized as a Vistage ‘Top Performer' in 2020. • Upwards of 600 appearances with Vistage International, the world's largest CEO Peer Advisory Group. • Best-selling author of Big Little Legends, available through Amazon.com, Indigo, Barnes & Noble, and more. • Podcast Host: “The Leadership Standard” with TEC Canada. A former broadcaster, Gair racked up 10,000+ interviews and 30,000+ broadcasts in an award-winning radio and television career. The son of a former pro golfer from St. Andrews, Scotland, Gair is a military history buff, an avid supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers and a card-carrying Tennessee Squire. He prefers Jack Daniels on the rocks, a frosty Moosehead beer and is a life-long fan of Van Halen who believes both versions of the band with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar should be considered legendary. Today I talked to David Avrin about his new book Why Customers Leave (And How to Win Them Back) (Career Press, 2019). There are three central themes to this book: immediacy (customers want instant gratification), individuality (offer flexible, customized assistance) and humanity (show interest and concern for those you are assisting). Of them, as David Avrin notes in this pleasing, semi-rant of an interview, immediacy should be the easiest for companies to act on. Unfortunately, automation is paradoxically making immediacy often harder to achieve. Other ironies worth noting from Avrin's perspective include: companies trying to head off negative off-line reviews with surveys that don't bring about change; and front-line employees who can figure out quicker than their managers what could and should be improved on. If upgrades don't happen, what's the solution? Run an exercise where employees are encouraged to formulate plans on how a competitor could undercut the company they currently work for by making the changes they detect would be beneficial. That move—or threat--would get management's attention if nothing else will! David Avrin is a highly popular speaker and consultant on the topics of the customer experience as well as on marketing. He's a former CEO group leader and speaker for Vistage International. This is his third book, following It's Not Who You Know, It's Who Knows You and Visibility Marketing. Dan Hill, PhD, is the author of nine books and leads Sensory Logic, Inc. (https://www.sensorylogic.com). His new book is Blah, Blah, Blah: A Snarky Guide to Office Politics. As a super-networker and connector throughout her career, Leslie's core values are developing and maintaining deep, trusted relationships that are mutual, what she calls an entourage. She has been led by those values from her early career on, and that has enabled her to grow her influence and to follow her vision. She defines legacy as a vision which guides you. Hers is to create a world where gender equity is a given, not a goal.Interestingly, Leslie described an early career challenge as having lost her second job because she had too much confidence! That led to her entrepreneurial journey starting a series of businesses. Now she teaches and trains women to have more confidence, which she thinks men come by naturally.Gender equity was not her original goal when she started focusing on women's businesses, but rather it was helping women to get the tools to have successful, scalable businesses. After a great deal of research, which she constantly reads up on, her vision has centered on training women to step into leadership and be the best leaders. Going forward, starting in September 2021, she intends 75% of her effort to go to her vision of bringing all women the ability to be the best leader of all aspects of their life, not limited to career only. That is a huge aspiration, which doesn't faze her, and she knows that she can't possibly do that alone, so she intends to create a program to train other women to teach what she is teaching and “multiply herself.”Takeaways: Get in touch with yourself. Think about what lights you up in your career and pursue it. Develop the confidence to speak out and be a strong leader in whatever you do.Quotes“It's important, especially for women, to be surrounded by other leaders and have relationships with influencers who can make introductions.”“It's evident now that women need to learn what seems to come naturally to men.”“Be smart about choosing your significant other to achieve gender equity in your career and your own life.”BioAn entrepreneur for much of her career, Leslie founded 5 businesses. She has dedicated 25 years to helping women leaders, executives, entrepreneurs and CEOs reach their goals and live fulfilling lives. For the past 10 years, her work has been focused on developing women as confident leaders. For some of that time, she served as a chair/executive coach for Vistage International, a CEO peer group (all genders) organization.Currently, Leslie is Senior Fellow, Faculty Director and Educator, Executive Women's Leadership, at The George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership. Leslie leads the Executive Women's Program and Women Leaders on the Rise for high-potential women.Prior to starting Leslie Grossman Leadership, her training and coaching company, she co-founded the Women's Leadership Exchange (WLE). Preceding the Women's Leadership Exchange, Grossman founded and led an integrated marketing agency — CMA / B2Women.  Grossman's first book, Sellsation! How Companies Can Capture Today's Hottest Market: Women Business Owners and Executives helped companies market and sell to the growing market of professional women. She also authored Link Out: How to Turn Your Network into a Chain of Lasting Connections.Leslie received a B.A. in psychology/business from The George Washington University, Washington, DC; attended graduate school at New York University in Counselor Education, and she is certified as an executive coach by Vistage International and in assessing emotional intelligence with EQi-2.0/EQ 360. How to reach Leslie:Email: leslie@lesliegrossmanleadership.com.Website:www.lesliegrossmanleadership.com
