How has the legalization of recreational marijuana in Ohio changed the way law enforcement approaches traffic stops where marijuana odor is present?Steve Palmer and law student Troy dive into a follow-up sparked by a listener scenario: what happens if you're exposed to marijuana smoke at a party, end up smelling like weed, and get pulled over by police? With Ohio's cannabis laws changing and the issue of marijuana impairment on the road under new scrutiny, our hosts break down how odor, reasonable suspicion, and the complexities of both state and federal law play out during roadside stops.Whether you're a regular listener or just curious about how new marijuana laws might affect traffic stops and testing, you won't want to miss this candid, timely discussion. Here are 3 key takeaways:Odor Alone Isn't Enough: Smelling like marijuana used to be enough for probable cause in Ohio, but new laws mean the odor by itself no longer justifies searching a car or escalating an investigation. Brett explains that police can't rely solely on this factor anymore.Impairment vs. Presence: Even with recreational marijuana legal, being impaired behind the wheel is a different story. Police may use the smell as part of a larger assessment if they suspect impaired driving, but not as the only evidence. This is an ongoing legal conversation in Ohio (01:13–04:13).Questions on Testing: Secondhand exposure likely won't push you over the legal limit in urine or blood tests, but this remains a frequent topic of debate and scientific research, especially as new testing technologies develop.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? In this episode of Home in Progress, Dan Hansen starts with a look at why smells have such a powerful effect on the way we experience a home. Unlike sights and sounds, odors connect quickly to the emotional and memory centers of the brain, which means a smell can instantly shape how comfortable, clean, or welcoming a house feels. That leads into a real-life odor problem involving Dan's son's house, several cats, a squirrel in the attic, and a dead possum under an entryway. From there, Dan lays out the most important rule for dealing with household odors: don't just cover them up with candles, sprays, or air fresheners. If you want the smell gone, you have to eliminate the source. The segment walks through three practical tools for removing odors at home. First are absorbers and neutralizers, including baking soda, activated charcoal, and white vinegar. Next are enzymatic cleaners, which are especially useful for biological odors like pet urine, but need to be used properly and should not be mixed with bleach or harsh disinfectants. Finally, Dan explains encapsulation, using odor-blocking primers and shellac-based products like BIN or clear shellac to seal in stubborn smells that regular paint will not solve. In the second half of the episode, the conversation shifts to the history and philosophy of Art Deco design. Dan explores where Art Deco came from, how it developed in the 1910s through the 1930s, and why the style felt so fresh and forward-looking after World War I. He covers the importance of the 1925 Paris exposition, the visual traits that define Art Deco, and how the style eventually evolved into the sleeker, more aerodynamic look of Streamline Moderne after 1929.Along the way, Dan explains why Art Deco was more than a decorating style. It was a design philosophy built around modern life, new materials, elegance, technology, and the belief that beauty did not have to come from copying the past. Art Deco found beauty in the present, and that is one reason it still feels stylish nearly a century later.Episode SummaryThis episode covers two very different but practical home topics: how to eliminate household odors and how to understand Art Deco design. Dan explains why smells are so emotionally powerful, how to stop masking odors and start removing them, and which odor-removal tools actually work. Then he explores the origins, materials, colors, and philosophy of Art Deco, showing how this iconic design movement changed the way people thought about modern homes, buildings, furniture, and everyday beauty.

Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Did you know that yesterday EASTER was the exact anniversary of our Lord and Saviors death. Exactly 1,993 years ago on that exact day Christ rose from the grave. Walking through the cemetery as a kid at night… We fear death.. Not birth Not life But death… we can't relate. I could claim to be born as a God I could claim to live as a God I could claim to die as a God But am I willing to CLAIM to resurrect 3 days later to prove it… But because he did resurrect we now no longer need to fear death. He conquered it, he made a fool of it, he said where is your sting oh death. Thats all you got? And why wait 3 days until you come back to life? 1. Ancient Medical Understanding: When is someone truly dead? In the ancient world (including Jewish and Greco-Roman thought), people didn't have modern tools to confirm death (no EEG, no heart monitors). So they relied on observable signs: What they looked for: * No breathing * No pulse (very hard to detect accurately) * Body cooling * **Onset of decomposition** The key issue: People could appear dead and revive (coma, shock, hypothermia) So there was always a lingering fear: “What if they weren't really dead?” 2. Why “Three Days” Became a Cultural Threshold** In Jewish thought, there was a widespread belief (not formal doctrine, but common teaching) that: The soul hovered near the body for about 3 days** After that: * The body began to visibly decay * The soul was considered fully departed * Death was **final and irreversible** You see this hinted at in the story of Lazarus: “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.” (John 11:39) That's not just a detail—it's a theological statement: “This is beyond recovery. This is real death.” 3. Modern Medical Insight: Decomposition Timeline Even today, decomposition supports why 3 days is significant: Within ~72 hours after death: Rigor mortis comes and goes Autolysis** (cells breaking down) accelerates Putrefaction begins (bacteria causing decay) Odor becomes noticeable By day 3, the body is unmistakably dead. So even by modern standards: Three days removes doubt. 4. The Power of the Resurrection Timing Jesus didn't rise immediately. That's critical. If He rose: * After a few hours → skeptics say “He fainted” * After one day → “Maybe He wasn't fully dead” But after three days: It destroys every natural explanation. This is why the resurrection isn't just miraculous—it's strategically undeniable. 5. Biblical Pattern: “Third Day” = Divine Intervention The “third day” shows up all over Scripture as the moment God acts decisively: * Hosea 6:2 — “On the third day He will raise us up” * Jonah 1:17 — Jonah in the fish 3 days * Genesis 22 — Abraham receives Isaac back (figuratively) on the third day The pattern: Day 1 = loss Day 2 = silence Day 3 = God moves Jesus steps into that pattern and fulfills it. 6. Roman Execution Certainty From a historical standpoint: * Roman crucifixion was brutally efficient * Executioners ensured death (piercing, blood loss, asphyxiation) * Bodies weren't casually misdiagnosed So combine: * Roman certainty of death * 3 days in the tomb * Sealed grave The resurrection claim becomes *maximally bold*. Bottom Line (Teaching Power Statement) Three days wasn't random. It was intentional. It ensured that: * No one could argue Jesus merely fainted * Death had fully taken its course * Resurrection could only be explained as supernatural “Jesus didn't come back early—He waited until death had fully won… and then He crushed it.”

Can Police Still Search Your Car for the Smell of Marijuana?Steve Palmer and Troy Henricksen discuss the “plain smell” doctrine—a hot topic in criminal procedure, especially with all the changes surrounding marijuana laws in Ohio. They walk you through what cops can and can't do during a traffic stop when they detect the scent of marijuana, explaining how the Fourth Amendment and recent legal changes affect searches, privacy rights, and law enforcement actions.Together, they break down the evolution from the days when the mere odor of marijuana was enough for a search, to today's more complex landscape where medical and even recreational use of marijuana has changed the legal calculus. They explain how “probable cause” is no longer as simple as it used to be, why the plain smell doctrine isn't as clear-cut, and what this means for drivers, law enforcement, and anyone interested in constitutional rights. If you've ever wondered how legalization affects your rights on the road—or if you just enjoy following the ever-changing world of criminal law—this is an episode you won't want to miss. Moments00:00 "Fourth Amendment and Automotive Exception"03:55 Ohio's Plain Smell Doctrine Explained08:06 "Probable Cause and Police Inquiry"10:45 "Law and Society Evolving"Here are 3 key takeaways:The “Plain Smell Doctrine” Isn't What It Used To Be: The once-clear rule that the odor of marijuana gave police probable cause to search your car is now muddy in Ohio and other states with legalized cannabis. Police must consider if there's a legal reason for the odor before jumping to conclusions.Legalization Shifts the Burden: With legal medical and recreational marijuana, officers should now do more investigating before deciding to search. Simply smelling marijuana isn't enough—they need facts pointing toward illegality.Know Your Rights: If you're ever pulled over and marijuana is involved, you aren't required to answer all questions. Like Steve Palmer emphasized, politely exercising your right to remain silent could matter more than ever as courts adapt to new laws.Got a question you want answered on the podcast? Odor control and overflow prevention are critical yet often overlooked challenges for wastewater utilities — especially as urban areas expand and climate impacts intensify. In this episode of Inside Infrastructure, Ryan Powers of the Wager Company explains how a family company that started in marine ventilation is now helping communities solve complex sewer problems on land. He discusses why traditional chemical and carbon-based systems are costly, maintenance-heavy, and environmentally burdensome ways to fight the problems. Powers also highlights the benefits of passive, low-maintenance designs that eliminate odors and prevent inflow and overflow without electricity or chemicals.Learn more about Wager.waterloop is a nonprofit news outlet exploring solutions for water sustainability.

What to listen for:Our hosts, Robin Greubel, Stacy Barnett, and Crystal Wing, break down how time, airflow, and placement reshape detection dog work! They kick things off by describing a week of hides left up to 96 hours, the longest-out scenario that reveals how odor pools migrate and change. Drawing from this experience, our hosts brainstorm creative ways to design hides that can better help your dog read scents.Central is the concept of "odor availability", which explains why surface area, sealing, and enclosure control whether a source itself (and not merely source size) ever presents to a dog.Using a paint-flow metaphor, they explain how multiple sources age and send "tendrils" of scent through a structure, forcing dogs to sort overlapping plumes to find dominant streams. They stress that short-set hides (minutes) produce different search behaviors than long-set hides (days), and that sport trials, which run many teams, may not reflect operational realities.Robin, Stacy, and Crystal urge handlers to read odor-pool cues, practice sourcing through mixed plumes, and intentionally vary hide age and intensity so dogs learn robust, transferable detection skills across environments. In this episode of Skin Anarchy, Dr. Ekta sits down with board-certified dermatologist and Surface Deep founder, Dr. Alicia Zalka, to challenge everything you thought you knew about deodorant and body care. With over three decades in medical dermatology, Dr. Zalka shares why the underarm — and the rest of your body — deserves the same ingredient-conscious, science-backed attention we give our faces. Her journey from clinic to product creation started with an accidental discovery: a forgotten deodorant, a swipe of glycolic acid, and a surprising odor-free day.Unlike conventional deodorants that mask odor or antiperspirants that block sweat, Surface Deep takes a different route — keeping skin's pH balanced, supporting beneficial bacteria, and creating an environment where odor-causing microbes can't thrive. Dr. Zalka explains the science behind sweat, the role of the skin microbiome, and why killing all bacteria is not the goal. She also dives into the delicate nature of underarm skin, why common deodorant ingredients can cause irritation, and how glycolic acid — when formulated correctly — can be a game changer for smooth, odor-free skin. Beyond the underarms, Dr. Zalka introduces the “Stinky Seven” — seven surprising body zones prone to odor — and her take on the rise of whole-body deodorants. This conversation is equal parts myth-busting and practical skin science. If you've ever wondered why your deodorant stops working, what's really behind body odor, or how to care for your skin without disrupting its natural balance, this episode will change the way you think about body care forever. To learn more about Surface Deep visit their website and social media.CHAPTERS:(0:00) Introduction & Importance of Body Care(1:05) Dr. Alicia Zalka's Career Background(3:04) Inspiration Behind Surface Deep Deodorant(6:38) Understanding Underarm Skin and Its Unique Properties(9:11) The Truth About Sweat vs. Odor(15:33) Issues with Conventional Deodorants & Skin Barrier(17:43) How Surface Deep Antiodorant Works(22:30) The Importance of pH and Microbiome in Body Care(24:09) Role and Benefits of Glycolic Acid in Body Care(28:18) The "Stinky Seven": Key Odor-Prone Body AreasPlease fill out this survey to give us feedback on the show!Don't forget to subscribe to Skin Anarchy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred platform.Reach out to us through email with any questions.Sign up for our newsletter!Shop all our episodes and products mentioned through our ShopMy Shelf!
