(Stereo Version) Whenever the UK gets a sniff of hot weather, Paul wants to make sure CheapShow is getting the best out of it by grabbing the handheld recorder and convincing Eli to head out into the heat. This year, Gannon may have pushed his luck a bit too far. A few years ago, they headed out into the sun for a boozy bunk off episode, and Paul wanted to recreate that this week, but Eli (rightly) thinks it's a bad idea. It's made worse by Paul's insistence to do a bit of geocaching when all Eli wants to do is find shade and eat fatty food and drink. To say that nothing goes smoothly, or to plan, is a massive understatement as the Cheap Chaps trapse around Ruislip Lido and the nearby woods looking for SOMETHING to go right. It's another Summer Bumper Walkabout Episode and you are welcome to it! (Special Guest Ash Frith) On this week's VERY special episode of CheapShow, Paul and Eli tackle something they are not particularly comfortable talking about, nor do they have a lot of knowledge on this subject… Football! But why are they even tackling this topic, is it because of the 2026 World Cup taking place in the USA? Why, yes. It is. They're cynically chasing a trend, but in CheapShow's own particular way. Luckily, they have a helping hand to guide them through, as the original fair-weather co-host, Ash Frith, joins the show after a LONG absence. Over the next 90 minutes (including injury time), the thrifty threesome will explore the cult of football fandom, taste some World Cup inspired snacks, investigate the history of World Cup mascots and try to decipher the 1982 England Football Team World Cup Celebration album. Yes. A football team released a load of songs. How does it go? Well, you'll find out in this week's soccerific edition of the economy comedy podcast! (Stereo Version) Back when CheapShow was only a couple of dozen or so episodes old, the economy comedy podcast was originally recorded in Cambridge, where Paul had his fill of charity shops to explore. However, despite recording there for almost two years, they'd never done a “walkabout” episode. So this week, to make up for lost time, Paul and Eli are heading back to Cambridge for a wander and a “Tat Hunt”. Not only that, but because Ep 500 will be a LIVE EVENT at the Cambridge Junction venue in August, it gives them a chance to track down and snoop about the theatre. The Tat Hunt rules are in place… They both get £10 to spend on whatever they can… Trinkets, Toys, Tracks or Textbooks, and they get to review them in next week's conclusion. So here we are, Part One of another Tat Hunt adventure that ends up being all “rather pleasant”, which is a delightful change! It's time to dive into another book in this week's CheapShow! Thanks to a kind listener, Paul has gotten his hands on a book called “London Lore” by Steve Roud. It tells of the tall tales and myths of London, so the cheap chaps have a look at some places they are familiar with. They stumble on a truly nonsense poltergeist story that fails to impress, but their second story is a lot more interesting. Turns out that the famous “Pearly Kings and Queens” of the UK capital have a truly fascinating beginning, not in the East of London… but in the North? If all that reading isn't your taste, how about some Sauce Report action? Eli's been informed that there is a range of sauces found in B&M, that are based on Seabrooks' crisp flavours! How good can they be? It's up to the Sauce Professors to give them a proper taste test, JUST for you. Also, it seems all this “Content House” rubbish is getting TOO intrusive for Paul & Eli! Every now and then, Cheapshow likes to go a little “wild in the aisle” when it comes to charity shop shopping… This week, they get to put their spending skills to the test when Paul whips out a board game based on a beloved 1990s game show, Supermarket Sweep! Hosted by Dale Winton, contestants ran around a huge supermarket, hunting for items and answering food based questions. But will the board game reflect the excitement of the TV show? You probably already have a good idea on the outcome to that, in a classic Gannon's Golden Games. Eli's also got to sweet treats to sample, with a return to the Froth Shop. The candy store has reopened, but sadly, an all too familiar face is running the shop. To make matters worse, Paul is definitely not going to like some of the gummies on offer. It's all going to be very disappointing, isn't it? Oh and Eli is MEGA hung over. (Stereo Edition) Sometimes, CheapShow is inspired by the random discoveries they find in the odd corners of the internet. This week is prime example of that. Paul has discovered something called https://worldwidesidewalkjoy.com that invites people to wander around their local area, picking up and dropping off random toys and trinkets to share with strangers. It's a cute idea, and CheapShow wants in. After a look over the website's global map, they realise that there are four of these trinket swap boxes in London, so why not go and find them? What this leads to is a reasonably fractious walkabout episode that invokes joy, rage and confusion. It in no way leads to an argument that was so unpleasant that it had to get cut from the show. Nope. Not at all. Will CheapShow survive this week's episode? We guess you'll have to listen and find out! With Special Guest: John Rain It's been a long time coming, but finally, John Rain from the wonderful Smersh Pod podcast is joining Paul and Eli for a 007 themed edition of CheapShow! Paul's been hoarding a load of James Bond based bric-a-brac over the past few years in the hope that John would eventually end up on the show. As a result, the whole episode is going to be one huge Bond Price of Shite. There are books, toys, games and all sorts of random nonsense in between. John will have to defend his knowledge of Ian Fleming in a 007 Trivia Pursuit challenge and Eli is going to try and bring him down a peg or two! However, Eli has also brought along his own Bond girl and henchman, and Paul is going to have to put up with it! Oh! And there is 007 Coca Cola to try too! Mono Version It's finally time for CheapShow to escape the confines of their usual recording space and venture out into the big wide world once again. For their first major “walkabout” adventure of 2026, Paul wants to visit the UK's “most haunted” wood, which is situated near the equally as haunted Pluckley village in Kent… But Eli and Paul aren't going there, they are heading to “Dering Wood” to look for something, ANYTHING spooky. It's also been called the “Screaming Wood” but will the only screams Paul hears be the angry, frustrated and howls of his pissed off co-host? Eli is not happy getting lost in a part of the UK he doesn't know AND he is very not happy to do it on winding country lanes. Will the Cheap Chaps ever get to their destination? Will Eli be able to guess the price of the shite Paul has also brought along? This is Part One of one of CheapShow's most calamitous of rambles! It's story time this week on CheapShow. It's been a while since we've had a “Dollop-esque” segment and in this episode, Gannon brings along the tall tale of William Roy. In his day, he was one of the UK's most respected psychic mediums, giving shockingly accurate predictions and personal information to some of the most powerful people in the world. However, it all came crashing down and Roy confessed all… So how did he do it? Paul digs into an old issue of The Unexplained Magazine from the early 1980s to find out about the bold life of William Roy. However, Eli Silverman fans need not fear, as he has brought a load of sauces with him too! He's got three new discoveries to share with his co-host. There is a Friend's themed marinara, a Mango Mint cheeky one and one made from bananas, so they could all be awesome, or ruddy awful. You'll have to listen in and find out the results! There is some old school, good old fashioned, classic CheapShow action this week on the podcast! Paul is very excited to share his latest “Gannon's Golden Games” segment with a game he has been after for a while… The Colour Of Money. Although it's based on an ITV game show, you'd be hard pressed to remember it OR care, but is the electronic board game as thrilling as the TV show wanted it to be? Paul and Eli will find out. If all that isn't enough, we open up a new casefile from our “Tales from the Shop Floor” cabinet to share a story that promises to deliver that classic CheapShow horror, disgust and amusement. And if all that isn't enough, they throw in a few new characters too… Although you may wish they'd throw them out again soon after! After last week's book heavy content, Eli and Paul decide to delight your ears this week by revealing their weird little 7 inch vinyl treats! These musical curios will make you question everything you know… Well, maybe not, but they are definitely “interesting”. CheapShow peaks back into the 1970s and 80s with a selection of tracks that tickle the nostalgia bone. There is some cute New Wave “computer game” based pop music from New Zealand, The Highway Code as sung by some A Cappella vocal group, an awful ballad taken from a forgotten Pirate movie and a flexidisc containing the familiar tones of kids TV favourite, Johnny Ball! Oh… And we have a new food segment on the show now too. Apparently. Although we don't look for items from Ali Express, Wish etc, we don't mind if our trusted audience members send us stuff from those online hives of questionable items. However, sometimes there is too much of a good thing… Or too much of a bad thing… as Paul & Eli are gifted a box that may overwhelm their price guessing senses in this Craptacular Ali Express Edition of The Price of Shite. There are over 20 (!!) knick-knacks, bits of bric-a-brac and weird curios for the Cheap Chaps to (somehow) price up for those illustrious “p'twings”! Who will come out on top, and who will be buried under a pile of crap… and does it matter? Also, if all that wasn't enough, it seems like a CheapShow side character has been promised their own segment, which is absolutely not going to happen! It's one of those episodes where Paul and Eli are going to be doing a LOT of munching this week as they have a lot of food to munch on. In fact, it's quite the potato heavy episode as most of what passes the CheapShow table is tuba root based! There are two new flavours of Walker's crisps to sample, both of them promising new delights for your tastebuds. What will come out on top, the Sticky Teriyaki or the Masala Chicken? It's the Cheap Chaps time to find out. After gobbling their way through all that, they'll next tackle Seabrook's new range of oven ready chips, based on the crisp company's most recognizable flavours… Cheese and Onion and “Beefy”. If all that isn't enough, Eli has discovered a new confectionary with an unusual flavour… KFC chicken? Yea. It's an odd one alright! It's time to get our “Price of Shite” on in our first game of 2026! To make things a little more interesting, Paul and Eli decide to have a “face-off” edition of the classic tat pricing game. Paul has bought 3 items and so has Eli, and they will need to use all their wit, intelligence and cunning to guess the cost of each other's charity shop discoveries. One of them will find a few truly tasty bits of tat that will amaze and amuse… the other kinda tossed it off and just went to the charity shops near where he lives. No guesses which one is which. However, who will win? That's all that matters really, those much coveted p'twings! There is a lot at stake (well, not really!) and once again, this relatively simple game will be made into a convoluted, angry pointless conflict! It's CheapShow time! It's a NEW YEAR and time for a NEW(ish) episode of CheapShow to see in 2026! So that Paul can take another week off from editing (poor tired lamb!), we're dipping into our Patreon pocket and pulling out a podcast usually reserved for our supporters! As is custom for our “first episode of the year”, it's time to enjoy another Nightbussin' adventure as Paul and Eli venture into more nocturnal night bus nonsense. This week, the route is the N89 that starts in Erith, far east of London, and in towards Trafalgar Square over a staggering 21 miles! It's the longest night bus in London and is also the route you basically have to leave London to start. As ever with Nightbussin' it's about whether or not Paul and Eli can get to the starting point in time and without having a meltdown. Once the journey begins, it's all in real time, so soak up the night time ambience, take a seat at the front on the top deck and join the cheap chaps on another Nightbussin' romp! Ding Ding! (Originally released in May 2025) See pics/videos for this episode on our website: https://www.thecheapshow.co.uk/ep-468-nightbussin-n89
Stereo Edition It's Paul and Eli's final walkabout episode of 2025 and they've decided to tackle the Hillingdon Trail which will take them into areas that they are very much not prepared for! In this two and bit hour epic adventure, the CheapShow chaps will attempt to traverse about 10 miles of northwest London in what may turn out to be their most trying ramble to date. They'll have to deal with going in the wrong direction, complicated diversions, wet weather, a woodland ghost, pitch black paths, deeply muddy routes & unsure endings. That sounds like it's going to be another awesome CheapShow walkabout episode, doesn't it? As Christmas begins to roll in, allow Gannon & Silverman into your ears for a special yuletide quest! Woop!! Sometimes on CheapShow, things can get TOO exciting at times. This week is probably not one of those times as Paul and Eli put “thick white sliced bread” to the Off Brand/Brand Off test! Four loaves of supermarket basic white bread will be chewed and reviewed by self-proclaimed supertaster, Eli J Silverman! Which will come out on top – the name brand leader or the budget supermarket equivalent? The results may surprise you… But probably won't. As Christmas once again looms on the horizon, Paul orders the “Grinch” McDonald's meal to see what makes it so “grinched”. Will it just be a load of green coloured food? Probably, but at least it comes with free Grinch socks! As the year winds itself down, CheapShow marches forward! Paul threatens to reduce his word count down to 25 words this week, but Eli is desperately having none of it. He just wants a nice, normal episode of CheapShow. But when as CheapShow ever been nice and normal? On this week's episode, Eli is obsessed with assonance and tongue-twisters for no good reason, a package from New Zealand offers a lot to munch over and Paul has discovered an old board game based on the career of UK comedian/actor Lenny Henry! Thanks to an online website called Sanza, a very kind listener to the podcast has sent CheapShow some tasty treats from New Zealand and there is a LOT to slurp, crunch and guzzle over. How will they go down with Paul and Eli? For a Gannon's Golden Games segment, Paul has discovered a “stand up comedy” themed board game, but will playing it actually raise any laughs, or will the usual in-fighting ruin the love of the game? As ever, you'll find out over the next 75 minutes! Now that some BIG episodes of the podcast are behind them, Paul and Eli can now get back to “normal” and get stuck into some delicious “Cheap Eats” and maybe savour a musical oddity or two! They were both gifted with a few wonderful things after the live show, so let's dive into a box of crazy candy and taste its delights. There are fizzy chocolate bars to nibble, cheesy nuts to munch and odd sour liquids to guzzle down, but will any of it be any good? When it comes to “Silverman's Platter”, Eli's brought along a few tracks will hopefully delight, but also completely confound. There are songs from 80s light entertainers, faux vaudeville bands and an odd medical 7” vinyl that, frankly, will get you scratching your head in confusion. So, it seems like just another regular episode of CheapShow doesn't it? Well, a small row at the top of the show will make the rest of it incredibly one-sided… See pics/videos for this episode on our website: https://www.thecheapshow.co.uk/ep-461-50-words www.patreon.com/cheapshow If you want to get involved, email us at thecheapshow@gmail.com For all other information, please visit: www.thecheapshow.co.uk Like, Review, Share, Comment... With Special Guests: Ria Lina & Paul Putner It's CheapShow Live at the Cheerful Earful Podcast Festival…. Again! Paul & Eli are back on stage at The Bedford Pub, Balham for another 90 minutes of chaotic, calamitous fun! Recorded live in front of an unprepared audience, the economy comedy podcast is unleashed once more. Over the next hour and a half, the Cheap Chaps will try to cram in as much CheapShow into 3 minutes as possible, add another dead animal to its collection, resurrect some long lost segments, and slather the guests with charity shop sourced gifts. To end the show, Paul has written a play that attempts to celebrate the podcast's decade of existence… but something unexplainable and unexpected violently shoves the show into a completely different direction! The poor guests… they didn't deserve this! This is not the episode we were expecting to put out! This week SHOULD'VE been a Tat Hunt episode but a technical disaster made it impossible for us to release until the audio was rescued. With a bit of luck, next week we will have the walkabout adventure we were super happy with and sad we may have lost forever! Until then, Paul and Eli had to do something this week, so they dove back into the “recording studio” to somehow pull a new episode out of their arses! Was the effort worth it? You'll have to be the judge of that as Paul grabs some games from his bulging sack to see if there are any that can fill ONE HOUR of real time, red hot spicy CheapShow action! It's an episode of extremes this week, as Eli and Paul battle through the usual segments whilst trying to deal with a whole host of new annoyances. Jimmy Biscuits and Richard Brandoff are back and trying to capitalise on their glorious return to the podcast. Paul is NOT happy to be dealing with an attic full of old and new CheapShow characters and something has to give. To make things worse, a trip to the Snack Palace reveals a very dark denouement for that particular segment. Two crisps enter, but do ANY of them leave this episode alive? Finally, there is a Price of Shite battle for the ages where Eli's crown might just be about to slip! Can Paul make a glorious comeback? It's time to find out. It's time to get our platters out on CheapShow this week! Paul & Eli have unearthed a few comedy albums from the once popular Grumbleweeds musical troupe! Who are these gentlemen? Where they any good? Has their material aged well? Will we get annoyed listening to “There's No Business Like Show Business” over and over and over? A quick listen to their output should answer a few of those questions! Elsewhere in this week's episode, Paul's got a Gannon's Golden Games on the go and is very excited to play it. The game is an early 2000s electronic “eBay auction bidding game” and, as Eli and Paul are sadly about to find out, absolutely doesn't work as an audio only podcast medium. Just how bad does it get? This is it! This is Episode 450! To celebrate, Paul & Eli are putting the final touches on their CheapShow Album. However, this will lead to an adventure like no other before in the podcast's past. TrackBot has been abused one to many times and not only does this mean the album project is in jeopardy, but the existence of CheapShow itself! There is only one way to save the day, and it involves the cheap chaps beaming INTO Trackbot and hunting through a digital landscape for a solution. It's an odyssey that allows Paul & Eli to revisit their past and, possibly, rewrite it. They've got 1 hour to rescue CheapShow from the brink of annihilation… But what does it mean for the future? Probably not much! After far too much time away, fair-weather co-host Ash Frith re-joins CheapShow just ahead of its 450th episode and what an episode! It's a nice chunky one that throws Ash in at the deep end straight from the start. They've all got a lot to catch up on and it's been a while since they've all been in the House of Sausage and Mash. It all leads to a 40 minute diversion into the sex, drugs and Rock & Roll private lives of comedians from yesteryear! It's getting censored to F***! After that, it's time for a classic Price of Shite and, to make things more challenging for our returning guest, Eli's confidence and ego is off the charts. There is a mix of tat, toys and musical surprises that must be priced rightly and Paul is struggling to juggle his loyalties! One more episode until 450, it's exciting! There is a slight change to the content of CheapShow this week as Paul & Eli decide to wade into the unfamiliar waters of technology. It's an episode that begins by enjoying the joys of the past and ends with a lament as to it's embarrassing secrets. Gannon is trying to make “Tech Talk” a new feature on the podcast and begins his crusade by pitching two retro gaming consoles to Eli. One is a reasonably expensive well-known brand, and the other is a surprisingly cheap knock off, but which will come out as the champ? And keeping on the tech talk theme, Paul decides to extol the virtues of a long dead audio format… The Minidisc! The Cheap Chaps go on a whistle stop tour of the medium, with all its pros and cons, but the episode ends with an embarrassing/adorable reveal. It seems Paul has found a minidisc with his 17 year old self on it! What is on the disc? Why don't you listen and find out! Blimey, something amazing has come in the post! After weeks of waiting, Eli and Paul get their hands on a test pressing of the CheapShow album, which would be exciting if it wasn't for the awkward threat of Mr Postie! It's not the only thing that has come in the post either! There is a USA flavoured “Price of Shite”, or rather “Cost of Crud”, this week! The question it raises is “Can Eli continue his hot streak?” and how much will that upset Paul? It's a P.O.S packed with trivia, tat and trinkets for Eli to gush over! Finally, we return to the often forgotten “Tales from the Shop Floor” segment with an email guaranteed to upset everyone… Which includes its author, Paul and Eli and (worst of all) CheapShow listeners. It was a mistake to record on one of the very hottest days of the year. However, the show must go on, even if involves sitting in a small room as the heat melts Paul & Eli's brains. Paul does have a plan though! He reckons after a slew of epic length episodes; they can afford to throw out another “real time” 60 minute romp that should make everyone happy. As an extra bonus, because it's so ruddy sweltering, why not spend the episode drinking nice, cold and hopefully refreshing drinks that have recently come their way? It's a win/win. Let's just hope these drinks are worthy of quaffing during a heatwave and aren't a bunch of cheap, nasty bottles of garbage. And what's this? A new character? Special Guest: Ria Lina CheapShow is dabbling in a “little bit of politics” this week when Paul and Eli are joined by special guest, Ria Lina! In a new “Gannon's Golden Games” segment, Paul pulls out a board game based on the topical comedy panel show “Have I Got News For You!”, so luckily the politics and news stories only go up to 2005. Who wins will be anyone's guess! There is also the added bonus that Ria has appeared on HIGNFY herself, so will her experience help her in an off the cuff board game version of the 34 year old TV show? The answer is probably not. Elsewhere in the episode, Ria must take the rites of passage that all first time guests must endure… a classic Price of Shite with Gannon going all out on the tat. How will she fare? Will Eli go easy on the first timer? Can Paul ever be trusted ever again? Somehow, someway, CheapShow has lasted a full decade. Ten whole years of tat and treasure, rants and raves, and adventure and abhorrent behaviour across 440 wonderfully mucky episodes! To celebrate the past 3652.5 days of economy comedy, Paul and Eli are doing exactly what you expect them to do… Drink an unnecessarily large amount of booze and bask in their own genius! Over the course of the next three hours, you'll bear witness to the moral degradation of the hosts as the alcohol begins to corrode their ability to host the podcast. The plan had been to talk about the past ten years, reflect on their favourite episodes and read the kind thoughts and feelings of the CheapShow audience. This soon becomes a major problem, with each email and memory stamped on with drunken buffoonery. In fact, let's be blunt, Paul has shamed himself this week and Eli has absolutely encouraged it. If you can stomach the ideas of your heroes falling apart over 179 minutes, well, you must be a glutton for punishment. All we can say is Paul and Eli are VERY SORRY for what you're about to listen to! There is only ONE WEEK left until CheapShow turns 10 years old! A magnificent achievement considering Paul and Eli didn't think the show was last 50 episodes. All they have to do this week is survive one very simple edition of The Price Of Shite without fighting, threats, verbal violence and underhanded behaviour. If they can do that, then maybe all will be OK. Sadly, it's not looking good for the Cheap Chaps as the show starts very badly and ends in absolute shock and outrage. Paul is desperately trying to make a rock band name word mean something funny, Eli is trying to become a joke-smith by crafting an equally as desperate gag and The Tales From The Dancefloor rubs them both up the wrong way. One of our favorite guests makes his triumphant return! We chat with our buddy Paul Gannon (@cheapshowpod) from CheapShow about all sorts of stuff and get blue with it right out the gate. Did you really expect anything less? Topics: Ben Folds, horror books, brainstorming some disgusting cocktails (yes, mayo is involved), bad ghost hunting channels, and more! Somehow, against all the odds, CheapShow has finally won something! Paul & Eli are in high spirits this week as they celebrate their recent “Golden Lobes” podcast awards win! It was a fantastic moment that was only 10 years in the making. This success probably won't go to their heads. At all. It's a bit of a wordy episode this week, as Paul is supplying two books for his “Page Turners” segment. His charity shop discoveries involve one book based on the kids TV show “Bangers & Mash”, and the other is a story puzzle book from the legendary “Usbourne Publishing”. The Cheap Chaps dive into them both to learn more, and if you are lucky, you'll get some story time action from Eli himself! Finally, Gannon pulls out another “Golden Game” to play. For this edition, he's brought along an electronic game based on the popular 1980s ITV game show “Name That Tune”. Sadly, as in most episodes, Eli will find a way to ruin the fun. Whether that's by pretending to be a Scouser or by simply opening his mouth and letting the madness spill out. No matter how dumb or gross this week's podcast is, remember it won a ruddy award! Unbelievable! It's been a month of walkabout adventures, game shows and another character retrospective, so it's about time that Eli and Paul got back into CheapShow HQ for another 75 minutes of cheap laughs! It's a “back to basics” episode where Eli gets to have his way with the content, forcing more sauces and snacks into the show than Paul can tolerate. CheapShow gets to sample a new and unusual flavour of Pringles that has a high bar to clear, there is a nice Price of Shite to amuse and bemuse and (because Eli demanded it) the episode closes out with a bumper Sauce Report. It's taken us a little longer than expected, but we finally have our hands on the “Peperami” sausage brand of hot sauces that demand judgement! It's a tat packed show with grotty toys, naff books and did someone mention something about gummies? MONO EDITION When the sun is shining this brightly in the London sky, Paul and Eli refuse to stay cooped up inside CheapShow HQ… So, they are out and about (yes again!) to go on an aimless wander through another corner of London. This time they've decided, for no good reason, to explore Nunhead Cemetery, one of London's “Magnificent 7” cemeteries. It's a gothic, spooky, heavily wooded area packed with tombs, crypts, gravestones and unusually named deceased folk. As they stroll about, they'll aim to be respectful but at some point, Eli will want to get the booze out and Paul will want to get the hell out of the place… And once they reach Peckham Rye Common, things will get a little bit more unhinged. In possibly one of CheapShow's more directionless walkabout episodes, join the Cheap Chaps on one of the warmest and sunniest days of the year… in a ruddy graveyard!
