Bígí Linn. South & East Belfast Sinn Féin is hosting an evening discussion on what a world class, all-Ireland health system could look like and how we make it a reality. Chaired by Deirdre Hargey MLA, with Guest speaker David Cullinane TD and joined by panellists from across the health sector. The event will take place on the 12th of February 7pm at the Malone Lodge. Self-Determination and Democratic RightsFor decades now I have argued that self-determination is one of the big issues of our time. In 2005 I wrote: “In my view the big international struggle of our time is to assert democratic control by people over the decisions which affect their lives. This does not mean retreating behind existing borders and refusing contact with the outside world, but it does mean reasserting the primacy of democracy and working together in order to pursue this objective.”Mickey Brady – A Cheerful Change Maker. Mickey Brady, former Sinn Féin MLA and MP for Newry and Armagh died last week. His sudden death came as a great shock to his family and to all of us who knew and respected him. I had the great fortune to work closely with Mickey in the Assembly and I often campaigned with him during elections. Some people are really good canvassing during elections. They have that way of engaging with people on the streets and at the doorstep and Mickey was a master at it.He was always positive. He knew the issues impacting on people and he could speak from his years of experience as an elected representative and as a champion for their rights through his work in the Newry Welfare Rights centre.Report on Rural Health in a New Ireland publishedSinn Féin's Commission on the Future of Ireland last week published its latest report - ‘Delivering Rural Health and Care in a New Ireland.' The public event took place in Enniskillen in November.A packed hall heard from a panel of health activists, including Pat Cullen MP, Fr. Brian D'Arcy – writer and broadcaster, Paula Leonard, CEO of Alcohol Ireland and Denzil McDaniel, author and former editor of The Impartial Reporter. The discussion and report examines the challenges faced by rural communities trying to access all-Ireland cardiac services, autism services, cancer provision, suicide support services and A&E.It makes no sense that we run two entirely separate health systems trying to solve the same problems. Tom Lawrence, Founder of the Biblical Financial Masterclass, on the Ultimate Purpose of Money (Ep. 170)

The Finish Line Podcast

Tom Lawrence always knew his calling had to do with money. Growing up in Southeast London, England, Tom convinced his parents to help him get work experience in hedge funds and investment banks at the young age of twelve. But a few years into his teens, Tom had an amazing encounter with Jesus which turned his whole perspective on life upside down. His passion for money remained, but instead of feathering his own nest, Tom began to see money in the light of funding for the Kingdom.   As an adult, Tom spent about ten years as a wealth manager for private banks and wealth management organizations and his views on Kingdom finances grew and matured with him. Suddenly, Tom found himself without a job, and he soon realized that this was an opportunity to know God as Jehovah Jireh, his Provider. During this time, Tom began an intensive study of what the Bible really says about money. That journey reshaped everything—how he understands ownership, stewardship, and the call the pursue true riches.    Out of that 200 hours of Bible study, Tom founded the Biblical Financial Masterclass, a 12+ hour course that helps Christians build their financial house using God's blueprint from Scripture. Now, Tom equips Believers, churches, and organizations to heal their relationships with money and to rethink their financial lives from the heart outward, grounding principles in Scripture and pointing people towards Gospel transformation. Tune in for a fantastic dive into how God's Word radically reshapes our relationship with money.   Major Topics Include: Three dimensions of money and faith Biblical financial insights from 200 hours of study Commonly misunderstood money scriptures Developing his course Equipping to handle what God wants to give you Getting your heart right in relationship with money The Christian motivation for generosity  What is “serving Mammon?” Peeling back the layers of Mammon in our lives The truth about extravagance in giving Challenges in engaging the local church in financial conversation QUOTES TO REMEMBER “I was just as passionate about money after I got saved and it gave me a reason why I should be rather than just feathering my nest, which was my main ambition at 13 or 14. Between 15 and 17, I began to see it as an opportunity to fund the Kingdom.” “One of the greatest things that we can do is handle money that's not ours, in line with Somebody Else's will, for Somebody Else's glory in order that it would be redeemed and bring about salvation in people's lives.” “More than 10% of the entire Bible is given over to talking about money, finances, wealth, and stuff in some form of another. And about 1 in 6 of Jesus's parables touches on it.” “Do not assume you are outside of God's will just because you're going through something difficult.” “Fundamentally, the entirety of the Bible is a display of generosity. It's a love letter to humanity from God.” “How much money is too much money? It's any amount that replaces our trust in God.” “Cheerful giving comes down to heart preparation.” “When we avoid talking about money, we are not sparing our congregations awkwardness, we are leaving a gaping hole in their discipleship.” LINKS FROM THE SHOW Biblical Financial Masterclass Stewardship (UK Ministry) The Finish Line Community Facebook Group The Finish Line Community LinkedIn Group BIBLE REFERENCES FROM THE SHOW Luke 16:1-13 | The Parable of the Dishonest Manager   Haggai 2: 6-7 | The Coming Glory of the Temple   For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. Liberti Northeast Sermons

9 November 2025 | This week, we begin a new sermon series titled Thanks & Giving where we will see what the bible has to say about generosity and how generosity shapes the hearts of those who give. Generosity Encouraged 6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”[a] 10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

With Special Guests: Ria Lina & Paul Putner It's CheapShow Live at the Cheerful Earful Podcast Festival…. Again! Paul & Eli are back on stage at The Bedford Pub, Balham for another 90 minutes of chaotic, calamitous fun! Recorded live in front of an unprepared audience, the economy comedy podcast is unleashed once more. Over the next hour and a half, the Cheap Chaps will try to cram in as much CheapShow into 3 minutes as possible, add another dead animal to its collection, resurrect some long lost segments, and slather the guests with charity shop sourced gifts. To end the show, Paul has written a play that attempts to celebrate the podcast's decade of existence… but something unexplainable and unexpected violently shoves the show into a completely different direction! The poor guests… they didn't deserve this! Have you ever felt a quiet sense of pride after giving, like you were just a little more faithful than others? It's a subtle temptation, but one we must take seriously. When our giving becomes a way to elevate ourselves rather than glorify God, we've missed the heart of generosity—and possibly much more. When Giving Becomes About UsSelf-righteous giving hides behind good behavior. It's giving to feel morally superior. Giving to prove we're spiritually ahead. Giving to show God—or others—that we've “got it right.”Jesus addressed this in Luke 18:“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector… The Pharisee… prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people… I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' But the tax collector… said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God.”The tithing, fasting Pharisee was not justified—not because his actions were wrong, but because he trusted in himself. The Heart CheckReligious acts, even impressive ones, can't save us. When we give to make ourselves look good, we risk trusting in our performance rather than Christ's finished work. There's nothing wrong with joy in giving—God loves a cheerful giver. But when joy turns to superiority, we've crossed the line. As Deuteronomy 8 reminds us:“Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth…”Everything we have—even the ability to give—comes from Him.Giving That Glorifies GodJesus warns in Matthew 6 not to give for the sake of being noticed. True generosity is humble, often quiet, and motivated by gratitude. It's giving that reflects Christ, not ourselves.John the Baptist put it best: “He must increase, but I must decrease.”So, if you notice pride in your giving:Confess it to the Lord. His grace cleanses and corrects.Refocus on gratitude. Remember how much you've been forgiven.Practice hidden generosity. Give anonymously or where no one will notice. Before each gift, pray: “Lord, may this reflect You, not me.” Because generosity is never about proving ourselves—it's about responding to the One who gave everything for us.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm 52 and currently have about 71% of my 401(k) invested in company stock, which has been generating returns of 30–36%. When and how should I begin diversifying to protect my retirement savings while still benefiting from my company's potential growth? My husband (62) and I (58) are debating whether to start collecting Social Security now. We still run our own business and earn an income, but I'm concerned about how starting Social Security could affect our Medicare coverage. What's the best strategy for our situation?I own and rent out a three-unit apartment building and want to know if there are any advantages to placing the property in an LLC.Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly Magazine (Become a FaithFi Partner)Wisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on MoneyLook At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000. Synopsis of Tonight's Group on The Evergetinos Volume II Hypothesis XXXIV Sections A6-F Conclusion: When we come across the high standards of the desert fathers, especially if they are jarring to our own sensibilities, we can tend to not just to read their writings critically but to dismiss them as hyperbolic or extreme.  Yet it is precisely the internal dis-ease that their writings create within us that brings us back to the heart of the gospel and what it means to be a Christian.  What does it mean to put on the mind of Christ and have our conscience formed and shaped by the grace of God and the gospel? How does it shape the way that we understand what it means to be a human being or the things that we take for granted such as laughter or familiarity in relationships? Upon closer examination, we see that there are many displays of humor that are rooted in a lack of sobriety and sense of reverence for our own dignity and the dignity of others. We rarely think about how our words and actions, our bearing or form of dress, affect those who are around us.  Are we seeking to protect the dignity and spiritual well-being of those around us? Do we hold their identity as sons and daughters of God as something precious and to be revered?  The simplest realities of day-to-day life and interactions need to be attended to the most; for they are often the means through which we are tempted. The evil one can make use of what is good and pleasing about our lives as a means to draw us into excess.  In the end, it is Christ and the gospel that must be the lens through which we view our lives and behavior. We see Christ, who, although perfectly innocent and filled with love was stripped of dignity, mocked and pinned to the cross. We hear Him say to us “take up your cross daily and follow me” - calling us to a sober sense of what our life in this world will be like as his disciples. In the beatitudes, we hear Him say “blessed her those who mourn” reminding us not only of our share in his cross but the necessity of morning for our own sins.  Christ has everything to do with what affects or afflicts us. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:06:25 Fr.
