With Special Guest: Nick Helm Holy F***! Comedy starlet Nick Helm is back on CheapShow and he isn't messing about. He joins Paul and Eli at the Soho Radio Podcast Studios for what turns out to be 90 minutes of rants, shouting, repulsion, audio torture and awkward conversations. Once again, Eli seems to be feeling poorly as he croaks and squeaks through the recording session. The upshot of this is that he develops the most adorable laugh we've ever heard. As for Paul, he's a bit grumpy before things even kick off and his inability to control his co-host and his guest will drain the life from his soul. As for Nick, he's has to endure some unusually flavoured crisps from Finland, Kit Kats from Japan, the Rambo themed music of an ex-BBC radio presenter (no, not that one) and a party game that is only going to make the already volatile atmosphere worse! We have a 'Special Edition' of @EchoChamberFP https://www.instagram.com/echochamberfp/ for you today, people!!! It's a bit of a revisit, because we first looked at this film during Sci-Fi London 2023, but looking back at that review: https://youtu.be/Yh1aM4iPxsY I didn't really do things justice. So thanks to the great Matt Hulse, we were able to not just take another look at the feature, BUT, sit down with the creative mind (one of them) behind the project and really get into the mechanics of the creation, production, casting, all that good stuff. We also touched upon A.I, creative techniques, and the perception of material. It was a really fun time, which could have been a lot longer, you won't want to miss it!!! Watch the conversation: HERE! https://youtu.be/dgix9eiMoBM 'The Bystanders' is the feature directorial debut from Gabriel Foster Prior, which he co-wrote with Jack Hughes. Peter Weir (Scott Haran) – a former child genius at chess who is now an inconspicuous office drone – is recruited precisely for his anonymity to become a Bystander, a kind of empowered guardian angel tasked with watching over, and invisibly helping, an individual subject. Peter is trained by jaded Bystander Frank (Seann Walsh), who out of boredom proposes that they swap subjects, so that Frank now has ‘middle-class girl from Kent' Sarah (Georgia Mabel Clarke), and Peter has feckless loser Luke (Andi Jashy), whom Peter hopes to transform into a winner so that Peter himself can win the award for Bystander of the Year, and make up for losing a chess contest decades earlier. Hilarious rivalry ensues, as misanthropic Frank, who can only see the world through ‘Frank-tinted glasses', sets about, purely for the lulz, undermining Luke's – and Peter's – newfound success. Brace yourself! It's time for the one episode of the year that always turns into an utter s***fest. It's the 5th Annual Office Christmas Party and it's going old school! After the tumultuous events of last year's ambitious party, Paul has booked an actual abandoned office space to host his office shindig. He's bought all the food, arranged all the booze and designed a very special Price of Shite. Eli has simply, begrudgingly, turned up. Over the next two and a half hours, you're going to hear Eli form a union, Paul gets a little bit too drunk a little too fast, copious amounts of weird food consumed, a string of ugly cocktails spoiled by novelty mixers AND suffer through the toxic blasts of Eli's guts. They're going to try to “Eat, Drink and be Merry” but it's more likely they're going to “scoff, slurp and be angry”! Let's just hope ALL those very special guests Paul invited turn up… See pics/videos for this episode on our website: https://www.thecheapshow.co.uk/ep-363-5th-annual-office-xmas-party With special thanks to Ethan Lawrence, Tom Mayhew, Nick Helm, Sooz Kempner, Paul Rose, Ash Frith, Octavious King, Brian Wecht and Leighton Gray!
