If Nikola Tesla only knew… Philip Gotthelf has run with Tesla's invention and made it “the most advanced sustainable commercial lighting on the planet.” In this episode, you'll learn about induction lighting, but Philip is also pretty knowledgeable about LED, flicker, and blue light effects on the pineal gland. And don't get him started on road lighting! Philip Gotthelf is a world renowned authority on energy markets and technologies. His expertise dates back to the original formation of energy futures markets in the 1970s where he worked directly with the New York Mercantile Exchange to popularize their crude oil and #2 heating oil contracts. In response to the first Earth Day on April 22nd, 1970, Philip Gotthelf became a crusader against the “Five Ps;” the pollution targets of 1) air, 2) water, 3) soil, 4) light, and 5) noise. In 1982, he revived Nikola Tesla's magnetic induction light (MIL) to achieve energy efficiency and longevity while reducing light pollution and protecting soil and water from dispersed mercury contained in fluorescent bulbs. In 2007, he created a line of modernized MIL under Ultra-Tech Lighting™ which is now operating as Tesla Induction Lighting Co. in deference to Nikola Tesla who invented the technology. His design objectives included minimizing glare and light pollution to achieve Dark Sky compliance without sacrificing visual acuity, creating quiet drivers (ballasts) to address noise pollution such as the 20,000 cycle harmonic that can disturb bats and canines, encapsulating mercury to render it environmentally inert, eliminating high-frequency flicker to eliminate dangers of strobe migraines or even epilepsy, and developing precise spectral tuning to provide the correct wavelengths for specific applications. Tesla Induction Lighting has the only proven “white light” fixture that does not distract sea turtles like the Green and Loggerhead. His Snow-Bright™ brand has been approved as Dark Sky compliant by the Grand Teton Environmental Commission and the University of Wyoming infrared observatory. Philip Gotthelf has been an active environmentalist for more than half a century.

Last week, we celebrated artists who returned to Eurovision to greater glory, but this week, we look at artists who came back to sadly a worse result (sometimes more than once). Let this be a lesson to any ESC artist who's considering a return in 2025: it's not always worth it. Jeremy's had it up to here with the scatting, Oscar goes to bat for the double-double, and Dimitry's hungry for some Fud.Support our listener William's 5K at Perkins School for the Blind: https://www.perkins.org/event/everybody-in/Watch the performances from this week's episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMLx7Isyfvc&list=PLd2EbKTi9fyU5o9btI-kwKs8c2epKADB9This week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2wl4MFGzX45f9NbqI9yltl?si=541U1dYDR9qq3eTA7cDVpw The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompee. The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O'Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Twitter and Instagram, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. Achieving victory in the Eurovision Song Contest takes luck as well as skill, and the competitors in this week's episode didn't luck on their side the first time. But all of them came back bigger and better for their second (or third or fourth!) time in Eurovision, so we're taking this episode to give them their due. We're dragging listeners back to Italy as The Cycling Podcast Féminin tackles the Giro d'Italia Women, which was won in spectacular fashion by Elisa Longo Borghini. Rose Manley is joined by Denny Gray and special guest ex-Olympian Joanna Rowsell to pull out all the biggest headlines from the race. For our mini feature, we use the anticipated return of Anna van der Breggen to the women's peloton as a springboard to find out what it takes to retire from racing and come back. Rose speaks to Ruth Edwards née Winder who retired in the same year as Van der Breggen only to return this season in flying form, already claiming a title in Thüringen and two podium finishes at the Giro. Edwards' breakthrough wasn't the only story of the race as the second Grand Tour of the women's calendar proved to be every bit as thrilling and hard-fought as it had promised. We witnessed the birth of a new rivalry between eventual winner Elisa Longo Borghini and all-round superstar Lotte Kopecky who trailed the Italian by only one second going into the final day. There was plenty of interest elsewhere as well with seven different teams sharing the stage victories at the race and the emergence of some new names to the roll of honour. Another Memorial Day is upon us. A reminder of all those we've lost. And, a reminder that no matter how high the stakes, no matter how challenging the odds, as the allied forces showed us on D-Day and throughout WW2, and as generations of American service members throughout other points in history, the underdog can win.  The underdog can come back. And win. We should also keep that in mind when it comes to Ukraine. Because Ukraine will show us underdogs can come back. But it's also the time some real heroes also back a comeback. People who step up to answer the call. Including 5 people you've heard on this show. And one you'll hear from in this episode. .  And we'll intro you introduce you to American Veterans for Ukraine, a groundbreaking new effort from our host, Paul Rieckhoff, Bonnie Carroll, Matt Gallagher, Adrian Bonenberger and Nolan Peterson. And in this episode we dig into all of it with Bonnie Carroll (@Bonnie_at_TAPS). Bonnie is a true helper and she has helped to guide so many people through similar awful journeys. Grief is an unbearable burden and Bonnie and the amazing volunteers that she works with at TAPS help the survivors to learn how to carry that weight. They're helpers. And as we head into another Memorial Day weekend with heavy hearts, we all could use some help. As the war in Ukraine rages on, TAPS is there, helping them deal with the grief. Helping them navigate their pain. And she takes time out to join us for a very special episode, to help us all as we struggle to process the seemingly endless cycle of senseless violence that has occurred over the past few weeks. This week, Alan, Quinta, and Scott were finally reunited to talk through the week's big natsec stories, including:“First is the Worst.” The historic first criminal trial of a former president has commenced in New York state courts. Both sides have sketched out their cases in opening arguments. What will the charges being brought against former President Trump relating to alleged hush money payments on his behalf mean for him and his 2024 presidential campaign?“Fair Whither Friend.” After months of delay that have, by some accounts, pushed Ukraine dangerously close to defeat, the House has finally passed legislation that would provide them with essential foreign assistance, alongside other aid packages for Israel and Taiwan as well as a handful of related foreign affairs measures. What is good, bad, and ugly about the package that finally got through? And what do the dynamics of its passage mean for other U.S. foreign policy interests in the near term?“The Clock is Tocking.” Among the side measures passed by the House and likely to be enacted into law is a bill targeting the popular social media platform TikTok — one that would ban that platform if its owners, ByteDance, do not divest due to concerns with the degree of control the Chinese government may have over it. But is this sort of regulation of a social media platform constitutional? And is banning one good policy? For object lessons, Alan finally put down the damn remote and recommended an actual book, Charles Mann's “The Wizard and the Prophet,” about the competing, prescient visions of the future put forward by early 20th-century scientists William Vogt and Norman Borlaug. Quinta picked it up and urged listeners to check out the new documentary “Stormy,” about Stormy Daniels and the impact her alleged involvement with former President Trump and its aftermath has had on her life. And Scott shouted out one of his favorite purveyors of the silver screen, Alamo Drafthouse, and their thoughtful “sensory friendly” showings that turn up the lights and down the noise for those with young children or sensory sensitivities — something that recently allowed him and his wife to see “Dune 2” in the theater with a newborn in tow.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/lawfare. And Scott shouted out one of his favorite purveyors of the silver screen, Alamo Drafthouse, and their thoughtful “sensory friendly” showings that turn up the lights and down the noise for those with young children or sensory sensitivities — something that recently allowed him and his wife to see “Dune 2” in the theater with a newborn in tow. As humans, experiencing challenges is part of life and facing those challenges head on is evidence of resilience. Camille Alston is back on as Amy's guest, as she's someone who has persevered through life experiences to get to where she is today. Most recently, a tornado touched down, changing her business as she knew it. This happened right after she came on the podcast last year, so she's back on with a fresh take on resilience + hope (but don't call it a comeback - she's been here for years - shout out LL Cool J) and after listening you'll see that Camille is for sure a buffalo, not a cow.
