Today on the Clean Power Hour recorded at RE+ Northeast in Boston, Tim Montague sits down with Bryan Wagner, President of CPS America, to discuss the latest developments in solar power electronics and energy storage. Wagner shares insights from his recent overseas trip to China, where he explored Chint's global manufacturing capabilities and strategy for the North American market. The conversation delves into Chint's impressive portfolio as a diversified global energy company, including their expansion into high-voltage transformers for solar substations, innovative inverter products with enhanced safety features like the 250 and 350 models, and their exciting new energy storage product called "Gonzo." Wagner explains how Chint's engineering expertise allows them to create complex power equipment designed to last through the 20-40 year lifespan of modern solar installations.Wagner also reveals CPS America's launch of a new service brand called CSPs (Chint Smart Power Services), leveraging Chint's extensive experience in operating and maintaining 20 gigawatts of solar globally. The discussion highlights the importance of RE+ Northeast as a platform for industry growth and networking, with Wagner noting how electrification trends and AI-driven data centers are significantly increasing power demand—potentially doubling or tripling New York State's capacity needs in the next decade.Bryan also mentions that their Innovation Day event is growing significantly, with attendance increasing from around 300 people last year to an expected 500 this year, and he invites listeners to connect with them via the Chint Power Systems website or by emailing events@ChintPower.com to learn more. Welcome to the Clean Power Hour! Today we celebrate Chint Product Innovation Day with Bryan Wagner, President; James Oswald, Service Director; and Anton Patton, Products and Applications Engineering Director. Central inverters have dominated the large-scale PV market as far back as the 1980s. But with recent innovations in semiconductor technology, high-power three-phase string inverters are now a viable alternative for solar projects up to the gigawatt scale. As a market leader in commercial three-phase string inverters for seven of the past eight years, CPS America is positioned to facilitate the industry's transition away from bulky, expensive central inverters toward modular string-based designs. On this episode, we gathered at the 2023 Chint Innovation Day at CPS' Dallas HQ to discuss how CPS is creating jobs, growing the industry, providing excellent customer service, and rolling out string inverters that are now displacing central inverters on 100 MW+ projects across North America. Highlights:Managing growth - CPS has doubled its headcount in the past 18 months and will double again in the next 12-18 months;Customer service - CPS has over 500 customers including developers, IPPs, and installers, across North America;Their flagship 250/275 kW inverter is being installed in 100+ MW projects and the company just announced a 20% price cut on these inverters;String inverters are the future for utility-scale solar projects;CPS is staffing up at all three of their locations: Dallas TX (HQ), Pleasanton CA (Engineering), and Somerville NJ;String vs. Central - string inverters are smaller, lighter, and easier to install and service; In more mature markets like Asia and Europe, string inverters have an 80 percent market share in utility-scale solar projects;CPS products are installed in over 15,000 projects (>110,000 products installed) in North America;Their Thailand factory is cranking out 5-6 GW of inverters per year; Supply chain woes, the war in Ukraine, and commodity prices of copper, steel, and aluminum impact the solar industry but CPS has over a GW of product on hand in the US. CPS Service - 24-hour turnaround for replacement parts;CPS Customers and customer experience;Solar + storage; What future employees should know about Chint;Solar industry growth trajectory: 10X growth by 2050 Connect with Tim Clean Power Hour Clean Power Hour on YouTube Tim on Twitter Tim on LinkedIn Email tgmontague@gmail.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. Held as a prisoner of war for nearly three years, Chint Singh was eventually rescued by Australian forces, only for 10 of his fellow survivors to perish shortly after in a plane crash. In a new book based on diary notes, Mr Singh's son shares the Indian POWs' story of strength and resilience.
Austin-based CHINT has opened for some of the biggest names in the electronic game (Mark Knight, Green Velvet, Josh Wink, MK...to name a few). He graciously shared his opening sets for Way Out West and James Zabiela on this podcast to huge support from our listeners. It's with great excitement that we bring him back in this week's episode -- this time sharing an exclusive mix he dropped to open for the legendary John Digweed! No surprise, it's dope. Featuring nearly 65 minutes of Techno, Minimal and Deep Tech House, there's no turning back in this one. Keep the music loud!
Ever since Ep. 147 aired, we've been wanting to have the hella talented CHINT back on the podcast. Today, the wait ends! After dropping one of our most popular mixes to date, the man-with-the-plan has returned with more fire in this week's episode. This time he teamed up with Remmington - the owner and creator of Austin's famed Kingdom nightclub - to throw down a 99 minute mix that oozes late night vibes. It's got dark, melodic Techno, hypnotic Tech House and some downright nasty Warehouse tracks for your listening pleasure. And if that isn't enough for you, the duo performed this as an opening set for the infamous James Zabiela. Time for us to shut up and crank the music. Keep it loud!
We're very excited to feature another Texas artist on the podcast! He's new to our airwaves but certainly not the music scene. From the great capital of Austin, CHINT has been setting the dancefloor on fire at the world-famous Kingdom nightclub for some time. He's opened for some of the biggest DJs on the planet and brings us a special treat for this week's Summer Series episode. The 81 minute mix you're about to hear was his opening set for the infamous Way Out West duo. If you dig the sounds and are in the area, be sure to check out CHINT every Friday & Saturday at Kingdom Afterhours or hit up one of the shows he's opening. You won't be disappointed. Without further ado...keep the music loud!
