See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
I had to channel my Gonzo style for this one again. You see, there was yet another article, that was just published in the west, stating that Russia's somehow adapted to this war and has modernized and innovated solutions to the problems they had in the early war. The only thing Russia's innovated are new and clever ways of graft and embezzlement - they would deserve a Nobel prize for this, but that's been preemptively stolen - they're just THAT good at crime. And only crime.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week, your favorite ex-puppeteers head straight into the uncanny valley to talk about the most homicidal hunk of plastic ever stitched together: Chucky from the Child's Play franchise. From his humble beginnings as a “Good Guy” doll to his long career of gleeful murder sprees, we'll explore how a pint-sized puppet became a horror icon. Expect behind-the-scenes tales of animatronics, puppetry wizardry, and the sheer number of people it takes to make one tiny toy look terrifying. (Spoiler: it's more than you think.)We'll also wrestle with the big questions: Is Chucky the ultimate anti-Muppet? What makes a puppet scary instead of silly? And could Gonzo survive a dinner party with him?Because whether you laugh or scream, one thing's certain: when it comes to puppets, Chucky really kills.Join the discussion on our discord! https://discord.gg/JDtWJrhPF6Follow us on twitter @PMoNPodcast and on Instagram and Threads @puppetmastersofnoneFind out more about the puppet masters on our website: https://puppetmastersofnone.wixsite.com/puppetmastersofnoneOriginal Music Composed by Taetro. @Taetro https://www.taetro.com/Send us a text

This week we FIRE UP and head to Mt. Pleasant and Central Michigan University for fun things to do this fall in this vibrant college town located smack dab in the middle of Michigan. This is always a type of homecoming for host John Gonzalez, as he graduated from CMU, and is a memeber of their Journalism Hall of Fame. You'll hear all about it, including a few trips down memory lane, on this special show. Our friend Chris Rowley is the Executive Director of the Mt. Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and an expert on all things local for MP. Along with Jordan Ensing, Marketing Coordinator for the Bureau, she shares what makes this community special as well as fall activities. Insider tip: there is one last summer concert at Soaring Eagle Casino, Tim McGraw on September 26.Next, Gonzo got to meet and interview the brand new football coach for CMU, Coach Matt Drinkall, who joins us in Michigan direct from his last assignment as coach for the Army Black Knights. He is CMU's 30th head coach. He shares his insights for this season, as well as some of the very cool things this team is doing to reflect and honor the Native American heritage that is such a part of the Mt. Pleasant community, and this year will be reflected on the Chippewa's football uniforms. Coach also gives a shout-out to the Chip's of 1974, who were National Champs. Some people were clearly designed for thier careers, Gonzo is one, Marcie Otteman, Deputy Chief of Alumni and Constituent Engagement is another. This enthusiastic supporter, and CMU alumni 1987, shares all we can look forward to for CMU Homecoming 2025. There might also be reflecting on the good ole days at CMU, and the happy recognition that things are just getting better and better for the university. We recorded our show at a place that any CMU alumni knows well, O'Kelly's Sports Bar. We get to interview John Hunter, who's family has owned multiple establishments around Mt. Pleasant for decades. O'Kelly's, which is connected to sister business, and party palace, The Wayside, has been around for fifty years, and features all the college fun you could ever imagine. John shares why MP has been their community, and what makes working with CMU and students so great. Gonzo may or may not enjoy a very special, and very blue, drink from O'Kelly's during this segment. We just love these college town shows, especially in the fall, when the energy of fresh students on campus makes everyting incredible. A visit to Mt. Pleasant is perfect for this time of year.
How does a gang member make the transition from life on the streets to earning a doctorate in public policy? It's not exactly an everyday event.Terence Lester was born into a two-parent household, but his parents later separated. In search of safety and stability, his mother moved Terrence and his sister from place to place. Carrying the weight of that early trauma, Terence turned to gangs, became a juvenile delinquent, experienced homelessness, and at one point lived out of his car. He dropped out of high school. But Terence's story doesn't end there. He eventually returned to school, graduated from college, and defied the odds by earning five degrees, including a Ph.D in public policy. In “From Dropout to Doctorate,” Terence unveils the realities of educational injustice and the profound impact of unjust policies and systems on Black communities. He shows how poverty disrupts the lives of Black families, leading to homelessness and perpetuating the school-to-prison narrative.Drawing from his own personal narrative and scholarly research, Terence names the complex challenges faced by Black children in under resourced and socially dense environments. As a public scholar and nonprofit leader, he advocates for equitable access to advanced education and addresses the systemic barriers that limit opportunities for Black people.Terence's advocacy encourages us to envision a world rooted in justice and inclusivity. Offering remedies of community involvement and mentorship, Terence charts a hopeful pathway that cultivates potential and provides opportunities for Black youth to thrive. In his podcast, Imagine Dignity, Terence focuses on homelessness and interviews people who live on the streets. His goal is to spread kindness, inspire empathy and help to create a world where no one is invisible. Jack and Gonzo talk with Terence his personal experiences and his call on educators, nonprofit leaders, and community influencers to confront educational inequity and inspire systemic change. Listen to the conversation.

Of all the former assistant Sounders coaches, few have a place in fans' hearts and minds as Gonzalo Pineda. After playing here for two years, Pineda joined the coaching staff in 2017 and was Brian Schmetzer's top assistant until he was hired as Atlanta United's head coach midway through 2021.Pineda's teams were never quite as successful as they seemed like the “should” be but they always played expansive soccer and actually posted a positive xGD in all three of the seasons where he was mostly in charge.Niko and Jeremiah spent an hour talking with Gonzo about his philosophy, his thoughts on the Sounders and what he hopes to do next.Sponsor

Greetings, Comrades! This is a news episode - including vatnik tears. But, like I said in the Gonzo episode - war shall not be sanitized, and there is no point writing stuff that's not inspired. This one doesn't require any previous episodes or catching up, made to be shared and with an emotional kick. And I think I've found my style too. I hope you'll enjoy this new format.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Godfather of Metal, the Prince of Darkness, a true legend has passed. This also triggered the last thing my father wanted me to do – and make a proper oldschool episode. Everything is in there, except I did not eat the shrooms as I couldn't open the lid.And in doing this, I realized that I have become Gonzo. And quite likely the only one around to do it the right way. Shit, I am competent now. That's why the old number system doesn't feel right anymore. This…this is a path of catharsis, memories, weirdest stories that my dad have, and some less weird – and quite a lot of other tangents. If you've only been listening throughout the war, this might not be for you, at least at the start – however, I welcome You aboard the crazy train anyways.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theeasternborder.
