Jim Hill and Dan Graney dig into a wild week of Marvel speculation, from murky Avengers: Doomsday leak drama to Sony's carefully controlled Spider-Man: Brand New Day rollout. They also spotlight the Muppets' latest Marvel crossover before Dan unveils a Doctor Doom theory that may reframe Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU return entirely. Plus, brisket, burnt ends, Muppet Treasure Island covers, and one very big question: what if Tony Stark was never the rule, but the exception? HIGHLIGHTS • Jim and Dan break down the blurry Avengers: Doomsday footage leak and the debate over whether it was real, AI-enhanced, or both. • Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers tease Doomsday as a structurally ambitious, emotionally complex follow-up to Infinity War and Endgame. • Spider-Man: Brand New Day ticket sales arrive with a tiny cast video instead of the trailer fans expected. • The new Brand New Day trailer points toward a Spidey-versus-Hulk showdown and a world where almost no one remembers Peter Parker. • The hosts dig into the mystery of who still remembers Peter Parker, from Savage Hulk to a possible Jean Grey connection. • Marvel's The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe celebrates The Muppet Show's 50th anniversary with Kermit, Gonzo, Deadpool, and one very mean Uncle Ben joke. • Dan lays out his big Doctor Doom theory: what if Doom is the multiversal constant and Tony Stark was the one heroic anomaly? • Jim connects the theory back to Doctor Strange's “one” winning timeline and the possibility that the MCU only ever had one good Tony Stark. Gonzo journalist and writer John Safran on why he decided to squat in a Hollywood mansion belonging to Kanye West.John Safran has made a career out of getting into places he probably shouldn't be, from breaking into Disney Land, to infiltrating fascist strongholds in Australia.A couple of years ago, one of his journalistic expeditions saw him squatting in an abandoned Hollywood mansion belonging Kanye West.John had seen a clip of the hip hop start denying the Holocaust, defending Adolf Hitler, and claiming that Black people cannot be anti-Semitic because they are actually Jewish. His week writing and snooping in this strange house, with no running water and a vulture in the roof, made John go increasingly loopy as he tried to understand what pushed this critically acclaimed artist from celebrity eccentric to seriously 'out there'.This episode of Conversations was first broadcast in 2024It explores Kanye West, Judaism, antisemitism, Hollywood, hip hop, Christianity, Nazism, racism, hip hop, squatting, the Donda Academy, journalism, Adidas, money, fame, documentary, writing, the Holocaust, mental health, celebrity, mansionsFurther informationSquat is published by Penguin.
I love a good ensemble film, one where a bunch of characters some together and pool their collective talens in order to achieve a common goal. In this week's episode I'll be recommending a few films in which multiple characters team up and head out!Smokey and the Bandit (1977)Big Enos and his son have a taste for Coors beer, which back in the 1970s was illegal to ship east of the Mississippi. The two are willing to pay big money to anyone who can make the run from Georgia to Texas and back and deliver 400 cases of Coors in less than 28 hours, and the Bandit (Burt Reynolds) and his pal Cletus (Jerry Reed) are just the ones to pull it off. Unfortunately for them, the Bandit picks up a runaway bride named Carrie (Sally Fields) who left Junior, the son of Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason), at the alter. With a Smokey from Texas hot on their tail, it's “east bound and down” in a race to deliver the goods before the law ruins their fun.The Great Muppet Caper (1981)When Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo blow their first (and last) job as reporters for a newspaper in England, the trio must team up to clear their names and prevent the theft of Lady Holiday's most expensive posession, the Baseball Diamond. Featuring a slew of cameos and starring Diana Rigg as Lady Holiday and Charles Grodin as her crooken brother, Nicky. Personally, I think this sequel to The Muppet Movie is actually better. Yeah, I said it.Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987)In the fourth Police Academy film, citizens are being recruited to assist our favorite police department through their new outreach program, Citizens On Patrol (C.O.P.) The new recruits are unqualified buffoons… which makes them a lot like the officers already on the force.Cannibal: The Musical (1993)The sky is blue, and all the leave are green… that is, until Alferd Packer returns from a prospecting expedition gone wrong and instead of finding other survivors, search parties find evidence of (gulp) cannibalism. Written by and starring Matt Stone and Trey Parker of South Park fame, Cannibal: The Musical features an interesting plot, catchy musical numbers, and jokes you can really sink your teeth into (no pun intended).I love a good “Hero's Journey” plot, but films with groups of characters joining up to accomplish a common goal can be even more fun. If two is company and three's a crowd, ensembles are a whole bunch of fun! Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. Will the Patriots pay Christian Gonzalez?
Ronnie Stoeferle, partner at Incrementum AG and co-author of the In Gold We Trust report, joins Wealthion's Trey Reik to explain why gold's rally may be about much more than a normal bull market.Stoeferle argues that gold is signaling a deeper loss of trust in the dollar-based monetary system, as de-dollarization, inflation volatility, central bank buying, and rising geopolitical risk reshape the global financial order. He also explains why gold may be entering the public participation phase of its bull market — with institutional investors only beginning to wake up to the role gold can play in portfolios. In this conversation, Ronnie and Trey discuss whether the Pax Americana is coming to a close, why fiat currencies look different when measured in gold, whether this is a monetary revaluation rather than a normal gold cycle, and what the In Gold We Trust report reveals about the future of money.

[CORRECTED AUDIO]We've had some gonzo episodes before, and a couple of trainwrecks, but this is the first-ever episode that is actually two episodes edited together, with sequence changes, new sound effects, canned insults from John, etc. I explained in a Substack post our technical difficulties that arose in the livestream, and here is the fix. Let us know what you think! In fits and starts we do cover some breaking legal developments, whether Israel has any hope of a libal action against the New York Times (which richly deserves it), the surprising statesmanlike bearing of President Trump, some surprising remarks on anti-Semitism from T.S. Eliot, and more.So here we go!
The Big Deal is dead. Welcome to the Dendro-Fecal Empire.
