For women over 45 with typical symptoms and changing menstrual patterns, however, diagnosis is usually clinical, rather than dependent on hormone testing. He's one of my all-time favorite writers, and reading through this huge mix of his previously uncollected work and forgotten journalism was an absolute blast.
