We close the show in Segment Four with an update from activity this week on Capitol Hill with Jerry Hagstrom of The Hagstrom Report.
Grains close mixed Thursday, livestock mostly higher. Chip Nellinger, Blue Reef Agri-Marketing, says soybeans ended with nearly 23 cent gains in the January contract on the heels of new highs for the move in the soybean oil market, spread unwinding with corn and solid weekly exports. He says he's been surprised with the ability of the soybean complex to discount the tariff concerns under a Trump Administration. Corn was up only a penny despite weekly exports of 109 million bushels, seeing farmer selling, profit taking on spreads and a lower wheat market. Wheat saw technical selling and better rains in HRW areas weigh on the market. However, there was also positoning ahead of the Fed decision of a quarter point drop in interest rates, as well as the WASDE. Nellinger is only expecting slight revisions on yield in the November report. Cattle and hogs ended mostly higher with help from the lower interest rates and despite market year low exports for both beef and pork. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Grains and livestock end mixed Monday. Chip Nellinger, Blue Reef Agri-Marketing says corn got some help from a slightly friendly quarter stocks number at 1.76 billion bushels, but most of the upside in corn and wheat was due to end of quarter fund short covering. The key will be whether or not funds continue that trend into a new quarter as Dec corn could not close above $4.25. Soybeans saw neutral report numbers but ended lower on rain chances in Brazil in the 10 day outlook. Live cattle made new high closes for the move on fund buying and higher cash and cutouts, with feeders lower reacting to stronger corn prices. Hogs were mixed.
