“The Lost Special” centers around the baffling disappearance of a privately hired train (“a special”) during its run from Liverpool to London. The train, carrying just a handful of individuals, vanishes inexplicably after passing a junction—it doesn't show up where it should, and neither the tracks nor the train can be found. | #RetroRadio EP0495Join the DARKNESS SYNDICATE: https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateCHAPTERS & TIME STAMPS (All Times Approximate)…00:00:00.000 = Show Open00:01:30.028 = CBS Radio Mystery Theater, “My Wife Doesn't Understand Me” (October 11, 1976)00:45:26.746 = Strange Wills, “So Deep Stream” (September 28, 1946)01:15:10.439 = Strange, “Deadman's Reef” (1955) ***WD01:27:15.389 = Suspense, “The Lost Special” (September 30, 1943) ***WD01:56:44.491 = Tales Of The Frightened, “Dr. Harvey Cushing” (1957)02:01:03.980 = The Saint, “Carnival Murder” (February 04, 1951) ***WD02:30:20.957 = Theater Five, “Captive Spirit” (October 16, 1964)02:51:49.891 = Theater 1030, “Trespassers Will Be Experimented Upon” (1968-1971) ***WD03:22:25.775 = 2000 Plus, “Insect” (May 17, 1950) ***WD03:51:49.648 = The Unexpected, “Eavesdropper” (1948)04:06:27.949 = Unsolved Mysteries, “Toll Bridge” (1936) ***WD04:20:54.279 = Dark Venture, “Hideout” (January 07, 1947) ***WD04:44:27.859 = Weird Circle, “Executioner” (November 19, 1944)05:11:52.842 = Show Close(ADU) = Air Date Unknown(LQ) = Low Quality***WD = Remastered, edited, or cleaned up by Weird Darkness to make the episode more listenable. The Great Barrier Reef saw its worst coral loss in 40 years in 2024, coinciding with government discussions on a new 2035 emissions target and fresh UN warnings about the Reef's future. A YouGov poll found 77 per cent of voters want stronger climate action, with 68 per cent of Gen Z backing a tougher 2035 target. In this episode, we speak with a Gen Z individual who has adopted a vegan lifestyle and advocates for it as a way to address climate change.

An annual survey of coral on the Great Barrier Reef shows more coral was lost in 2024 than in any other year since records began in the past four decades. The disturbing finding comes as the government considers a new 2035 climate target on emissions, and after recent warnings about the Reef's future from the UN World Heritage body.
Can oil rigs actually improve marine habitats and fishing opportunities in the Gulf? The answer is an unequivocal “YES”, as this feature episode of The Sportsmen's Voice Podcast details. Host Fred Bird is joined by CSF's Chris Horton and Kevin Bruce from Arena Energy to discuss the Rigs to Reef program—a vital conservation initiative for saltwater anglers, commercial fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The conversation dives deep into how decommissioned oil platforms in the Gulf of America are being transformed into artificial reefs that support marine biodiversity, enhance sportfishing opportunities, and fuel local outdoor economies, along with the challenges this program faces. They explore: Why reefing-in-place helps conserve and protect marine ecosystems and coastal fishing access, How permitting bottlenecks threaten reef development, The bipartisan push for legislation that supports this critical marine infrastructure, and Highlights from the new documentary Steel To Sanctuary, which sheds light on the reefing effort and its impact on fishermen, divers, and coastal communities. Whether you're a saltwater angler, conservation advocate, or part of the outdoor industry, this episode breaks down how some offshore energy infrastructure can be part of a healthy future for America's marine fisheries. Learn more about the Rigs to Reef initiative and how you can support marine conservation efforts at the intersection of policy, ecology, and the outdoor recreation economy. Jameson Reeder Jr. is a shark attack survivor, amputee, surfer, and one of the most courageous young men I've ever spoken with. At just 10 years old, Jameson was attacked by a 9-foot bull shark while snorkeling in the Florida Keys. What followed was a miraculous chain of events involving strangers, a nurse who swam through shark-infested waters, a faster boat, and a powerful spiritual encounter that Jameson says saved his life. He and his father Jamon recount the entire journey in their new book, Rescue at the Reef. In this conversation, we talk about trauma, faith, family, facing your fears, and how this young man chose purpose over fear—and joy over bitterness. Some of the moments I found most meaningful in this conversation were: The unbelievable moment Jameson said, “Jesus is going to save me,” moments after losing his leg Jamon's impossible decision to hand off his son to a stranger on a faster boat Jameson's vision of Jesus and the peace that carried him through the ride back The family's return to the reef just weeks later to reclaim joy and face fear How Jameson now comforts others with trauma, proving strength can come in small packages Timestamps: 00:00 Introduction 01:10 Reeder family roots in the Keys 06:45 The day of the shark attack 15:00 The miracle rescue unfolds 22:45 Jameson's spiritual experience on the boat 28:00 Hospital, trauma, and family response 35:15 Returning to the reef & keys that unlock fear 46:50 Speaking to others with trauma 54:40 Surfing, fishing, and shark advocacy 1:06:15 Finding purpose and what's next for Jameson

Did you know some of our marine fish are living DOUBLE LIVES? That's right, they want the best of both worlds, saltwater and freshwater. So one minute they're living the dream on a beautiful coral reef, next minute they've decided they need a tree change, and they're swimming up into our rivers. What are they doing there? And importantly – what happens when humans build dams, causeways and other watery traffic jams that block these fish from finishing their migration missions? This week's guest: Sean Georgeson, Fish Ecologist and founder of www.coralition.org | www.instagram.com/coralition_orgRing the Fish Doorbell (Livestream where you can open the door for migrating fish): https://visdeurbel.nl/en/ Thumbnail Image: Sean and colleague using electrofishing to capture fish for research purposes in New Zealand. Jameson Reeder Sr. and his 10-year-old son, Jameson Jr., were swimming nine miles off the coast of Florida when a 9-foot bull shark appeared out of nowhere. In seconds, their peaceful snorkeling trip turned into a fight for life, and one that would test their faith, summon unexpected heroes, and reveal a little boy's unshakable courage. Today, Jameson Sr. and Jameson Jr. share how a terrifying shark attack led to a series of undeniable miracles. You'll hear how strangers leapt into action, how courage showed up in the most unexpected ways, and how just weeks after the attack, Jameson Jr. asked to return to the place of the attack to face his fear. My friends, if you need a reminder of the strength we carry, even in the most unthinkable moments, this conversation is for you. You'll be moved by Jameson Jr.'s resilience and compassion in the face of pain, as he shows us what it means to be brave, how to forgive the unimaginable, and how to meet fear with courage, grit, and even joy.
James Reeder Jr. was just 10-years-old when he lost the bottom half of his right leg to a shark attack while snorkeling in Florida. Three years later, they have written a book about their experience called “Rescue at the Reef”. STORY: https://www.wdjx.com/family-writes-a-book-about-their-son-surviving-a-shark-attack/
Marketing is often confused with promotion, but really, it's about much more than that. Marketing is about knowing and understanding your customers so well that your product or service fits them and, ultimately, sells itself. In short, marketing is about insight above all else. In the spirit of those insights, we present our Meet the Marketer series, where we discuss the careers and tactics of marketers behind industry-leading brands. In this episode, we chat with Brianna Showell, Vice President of Marketing at Reef. A seasoned brand builder, Brianna has shaped consumer connections at some of the world's most respected names, including Nike and prAna. With deep experience in brand storytelling, strategic planning, and consumer engagement, she brings a fresh vision to Reef's next chapter. We'll explore how Brianna's work is helping Reef break out of its seasonal mold, expand its product line, and double down on authentic, insight-driven innovation. You'll hear her perspective on everything from building cohesive funnel strategies to leveraging retail experiences, and inspiring teams to balance creativity with performance.

Checking in on the Traverse household, things are looking ... somber. As happy as the hosts are to all be present and accountable, the mood is somewhat dampened by the final ties breaking between Lake and her father, and where that leads Webb. Thankfully, the romantic backdrop of Nochecita cushions things a bit, even if Frank and Reef's glimpse at peace is cut short. It's not all a loss, though! We do, at least, meet a few new friends along the way to Jeshimon. If you like what we're doing and want to support the show, please consider making a donation on Ko-Fi.
