Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week we wrap up our Faith in Sports Series with Lancaster Stormers Chaplain Josh Beers. Josh grew up in a Christian home with faith at the forefront, but it was sports that he worshipped. "I lived for whatever athletic season I was in. What I was worshipping was temporal, and I was living for the next moment and competition." God got ahold of Josh as a freshman in college, and that's where his faith journey truly began. As Josh gave his life to Jesus he believed that sports would have to go to the back burner, but God had other plans. "I began using sports as a platform to point people to Jesus, build character and make disciples." - Josh Beers Josh dives into the importance of mentorship in the sports world and in his own life. "In my own walk I am always looking for that man who is a few years ahead of me and asking them questions so they can sharpen me." In the sports world players have coaches who are teaching them, mentoring them and sharpening them to take it to the next level. Iron sharpening iron is all about what does the next step look like in your journey. Where can you find that man, that mentor to sharpen you? Most men who are struggling to find a mentor are not intentionally pursuing it or are afraid to ask. We all need people in our lives who see things in us that we don't see ourselves. The enemy wants us to be isolated, we need to break through that shell and admit we need help. It's actually a sign of strength to admit that we need a mentor. We are all going through the same battles together, how do we lean into that? Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week we continue our Faith in Sports Series with Olympic and World Champion Wrestler Kyle Snyder. In this episode, Kyle shares his incredible journey of wrestling and faith. At a young age Kyle wanted to be an Olympic Champion. Wrestling was everything. Kyle shares how his wrestling career shaped his understanding of God. "Through wrestling I found out who God was and who Jesus is."  Kyle is a 2016 Olympic Gold Medal winning wrestler. He is the youngest Olympic gold medalist and youngest World Champion in American wrestling history. He was a 3-time NCAA National Champion at Ohio State with a career record of 75-5 and ended his college career as the first and only wrestler to win the NCAA, World and Olympic championships as a collegiate athlete. After moving to the Olympic Training Center as a senior in High School, Kyle started going to Bible studies at the request of coaches and continued attending them as a freshman at Ohio State. Despite his desire to grow in his faith, his identity was still wrapped up in his wrestling accomplishments. A heart breaking loss in the NCAA Finals as a freshman sent Kyle into a state of depression and ultimately led to him surrendering it all to Jesus. This decision changed Kyle's life, allowing him to embrace his God-given abilities fully. Throughout this conversation, Kyle emphasizes the importance of being anchored in God's Word and how his commitment to studying the Bible and finding mentorship continues to strengthen his faith. Kyle concludes by highlighting that our ultimate purpose in life is to know God, grow in His character, serve Him, and teach others about Him. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week we continue our Faith in Sports Series with Messiah University Associate Head Soccer Aaron Faro. Aaron grew up in upstate New York with a strong faith foundation and a deep desire to see faith and sports run together. Aaron said that at a young age his identity was wrapped up in his athletic accomplishments. "My athletics were not surrendered to God." As an alum of Messiah University, he describes his years at Messiah as some of the most significant years of growth. As his love for Jesus deepened, he watched the Lord reorder his priorities and put faith above sports. It ultimately gave Aaron a deep desire for coaching and helping other athletes recognize this and learn to put Jesus above all else. As Aaron surrendered his life to the Lord, the Lord gave sports back to Aaron in the form of coaching. Your college years are very foundational, and who you surround yourself with is huge. At Messiah University, Aaron wants it to be an environment where men grow, are sharpened, and ultimately grow closer to the Lord. They are constantly talking constantly about the value of relationships and that deep relationships is something we were created for. Being vulnerable, sharing one another's burdens, being real with one another and submitting to accountability. These our not very common practices in our culture, especially for men. Sports is such a powerful tool for connecting with people. It lends itself so well to building deep relationships. When we surrender all things to the Lord he can use them. There is a huge need in our culture for men to be all of who God's created them to be. When men aren't all that God's created them to be there is a huge gap and a huge ripple in every sector of our culture.  "When I think of my legacy, I think of the life of Jesus and the way that he poured into people. I want my legacy to be that I helped people move closer to Jesus. The coach in me desires to see them reach their potential and use that to impact others." Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week we kick off our Faith in Sports Series with a powerful testimony from Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavs Chaplain Nobles Darby IV!! A pastor's kid who fell from grace. Nobles received a calling into ministry at a young age. He went on to become a D1 athlete with a scholarship to play football at Bowling Green. The loss of his grandfather shortly after sent him into a downward spiral. Which ultimately left him off the team, suspended from school and back home. Battling depression and suicidal thoughts he remembered the words of his grandfather before his death, “You gonna need God to make it through college and life.” In that moment Nobles repented and turned to God, the God of second chances. Nobles went back to school and walked the stage of a 4-year university a couple years later. Which ultimately led him back to the game he loved, but this time as a Chaplain. Now Nobles uses his story to impact professional athletes and the community as a whole. At the early age of 13 he knew that God was calling him into ministry. At a special prayer service led by his grandfather, he was standing in a circle and felt the presence of the Holy Spirit for the first time. An overwhelming sensation and a voice saying "GO!" He walked up to the alter to his grandparents and said, "I want to know what God's will is for my life." Out of fear Nobles ran from his calling, he was terrified of it. But three years later, at only 16, he was ready to accept God's call on his life. "My yes to God at 16 ran ahead of my 20 years and is opening up doors now." Nobles now uses his powerful testimony to encourage pro coaches and athletes. Nobles also serves as the FCA Metro Cleveland Director for Cleveland FCA - www.clevelandfca.org "The thing I'm most concerned with, is how do I win at home? It can only come by being sharpened, we all have blind spots and need another man to call those out. The Holy Spirit is our spotter, he sends and puts people in our lives that can see things we can't see. I want to encourage the men I'm around , the athletes and coaches I'm around to leverage their platform of influence to point people to Jesus Christ." "My legacy is a man who had enough faith to take God at his word to watch him do what he did with no expectation other than seeing Jesus be glorified. I just want to see the name of Jesus will be lifted up in sports. God wants us to prioritize a souls over stats mentality. When we as men prioritize the health of our soul God allows everything else to flow from a place of priority because our priority is Him." Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week we wrap up the Challenges Men Face series with another tough question, "How to find a healthy work-life balance?" When we think about our family and work we desire to find a healthy balance, but often have a hard time actually doing it. For men in the middle of their career, raising a family, etc.–it's hard to find a healthy balance between your job and time at home. With technology and work at our fingertips, it's harder than ever to turn it off when we get home. It's a challenge to put an end to that work day when you can easily access email, to-do's and messages on your phone. Men, your wife, your, kids, your family deserve your undivided attention. What can we continue to do to be more present and intentional at home? Your kids are smarter than you think and see what you do and don't do. The minute you step foot in that door they are excited to see you and spend time with you. When you choose your phone or a work email over time with them, you are showing them what's more important. We have to create healthy boundaries between our jobs and our families. We have to show them that they ARE more important than your phone or work email.  What are some practical steps for finding a healthy work-life balance #1 – Turn your phone off – if you don't want to turn it off, put it on silent and set it aside) #2 – Prioritize your time – set aside the first hour to go on a walk, play a game with them, etc. #3 – Communicate – talk to your wife about her day, your day. Talk to your kids about their day #4 – Be honest and transparent - If you had a rough day, or a good day, share that with them Men, let's put these practical tips into place today. Let's set an example of what it looks like to have a healthy work-life balance. Trust me, this healthy balance will impact you and your family in a major and help you establish healthy rhythms for the future.  If you are struggling in your role as a husband, father or leader, we would love to be a resource for you, contact us today – menofiron.org/contact-us You can now watch the Men of Iron Podcast on YouTube – www.youtube.com/@men_of_iron. Is It Okay to Be Angry at God? (EP. 258)

Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week, in Episode 258 of the Challenges Men Face series, we dive into another tough question, "Is it okay to be angry at God?" Difficult seasons in life often lead us to question God. Why did you let this happen to me? Why am I going through this? When we look at men like Job, we see that God did not condemn Job for being angry at him, he helped Job work through it. Men, it's okay to voice our frustrations with God.  Every moment of your life, good or bad, has helped shape who you are today. It's okay to wrestle with God, but we also have to understand God is ultimately in control. Who you turn to at the end of your frustrations is what matters most. Life was never meant to be easy. Jesus warned his disciples that as followers of Christ would come with a cost."If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." John 15:19 (NIV). Our encouragement to you today is to see God in the good or bad. It's okay to be angry with God, voice your frustrations to Him, turn to Him. Surround yourself with those who push you closer to Him, knowing that He has been faithful in the past and will remain so in the future. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week, we continue the Challenges Men Face Series with a crucial discussion on "The Lies Men Believe." From the very beginning, Adam and Eve's relationship with God was derailed by believing a lie from Satan: "Did God really say that? Is that really who God is?" The enemy continues to use deceit to steer us away from God's divine purpose in our lives. These lies hinder our journey with God and lead us astray, preventing us from fulfilling our calling as men. Here are some of the prominent lies that men often fall victim to: "I don't have what it takes." "I need to earn my value from God." "I'll never be as good as that guy." "I can do it by myself." To combat these lies effectively, consider practical steps: #1 - Confront the Lie: Recognize and confront the lie head-on. Don't allow it to take root in your mind unchallenged. #2 - Seek Accountability: Surround yourself with godly men who can identify these lies and help you stay on track with God's truth. #3 - Replace with God's Truth: Replace the lie with the truth of God's Word. #4 - Know Your Identity in Christ: Let this truth define you rather than the lies you hear or believe. #5 - Community: Build a community of godly men who will stand alongside you in life's battles. By actively confronting, correcting, and replacing these lies with God's truth, we can overcome the obstacles that hinder our walk with God and embrace the fullness of our calling as men of God. What Does It Really Mean to Be a Man? (EP. 256)

Men of Iron Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 3, 2025 28:33

Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week, we kick off the "Challenges Men Face Series" with a bold and timely conversation: What does it mean to be a man? In Episode 255, we delve into this hot-topic question by contrasting biblical masculinity with modern cultural expectations. At Men of Iron we define a man by what the Bible says. But what does culture say? Men have taken a back seat in today's culture, it's become taboo to invest in men. Men are afraid to lead and stand up for truth. The Bible is clear is in saying that men are suppose to lead the family, lead the church and lead culture. Culture, families, and communities are healthiest when men are healthy and caring for the people they are leading. We are not promoting toxic masculinity, we ARE promoting biblical masculinity. As men our top priority should be to reflect Jesus, what did Jesus do? Jesus was a strong, passionate leader that did some controversial things that we tend to gloss over. Jesus was direct, not afraid to lead and not shy about what His mission was. But at the same time He was gracious, loving, compassionate. It is a healthy and manly thing to be spiritually wise, discerning and to support people when they need supported and confront people when they need confronted. Culturally we have stepped away from the hard things and we see the negative results of it. Fatherlessness in the United States is skyrocketing, men's mental health is at an all-time low, men don't have friends. There are real challenges in the world and we have to address them. What are some practical tips to discovering what it means to be a godly man? #1 - Know God – Strengthen or establish your relationship with God, it all starts here #2 - Read your Bible – Pickup a Bible, learn about the character of God, learn about who Jesus was and what he did #3 - Find godly friends – Surround yourself with men that will teach you about what it means to be a godly man #4 - Get a mentor – Accountability is key, you need another man to hold you accountable and help you grow A man that is manly without being godly is dangerous. Go after godliness first and use the gifts and talents God has given you to build the Kingdom. Getting around the right guys is crucial, Jesus put 12 guys around him. Godless culture is going to tell you that you can do it yourself. God has called men to be leaders and that means we have to make tough decisions and stand up for what is right. When you are walking with God you will make the decisions that God wants you to make. When we think about what it means to be a man we have to look at the first man, Adam. While he enjoyed that work he thrived in his relationship with God because he was daily walking with God in his creation. We are created to care for what God entrusted us with we walk with God daily and work together with the people around us. The only way to know how to be a man is to be the man God called you to be If you are struggling in your role as a husband, father or leader, we would love to be a resource for you, contact us today – menofiron.org/contact-us You can now watch the Men of Iron Podcast on YouTube – www.youtube.com/@men_of_iron. Join us for Part 3 of The Wives Restoration Series with Jen Rhoads! A four-part series giving us a glimpse into the lives of 4 different wives and their side of their husband's restoration story. Jen grew up in a conservative religious family, knowing she was loved but never hearing it. She became a Christian at 13, motivated more by the fear of going to hell than a love for God. Marlin experienced a very similar upbringing, they met at a Bible school one summer, and would eventually get married. Early challenges in the marriage arose as they left their home church, stopped attending church altogether, and Marlin started hanging out with the wrong crowd. These unhealthy habits eventually led to Marlin asking Jen to move out. Despite these trials, Jen's unwavering faith carried her. In 2012, after a season of separation, Marlin wanted to get back together but it wouldn't last long. After their daughter was born Jen discovered that Marlin was having an affair and now faced with the pain of a second separation. Through it all, Jen leaned on God, practicing what she calls "benevolent detachment," releasing burdens and trusting in His plan. A turning point came when she felt God promise a shift in their marriage—and in November 2014, Marlin sought to reconcile again. Fast forward to 2020, during another rough patch, Marlin signed up for a one-to-one mentorship with Men of Iron. The mentorship transformed his life. The encouragement and camaraderie from another man helped Marlin grow as a husband, father, and spiritual leader. Today, Jen sees the fruits of this decision—their marriage has stability, their children feel the peace in their home, and Jen has found it easier to trust God. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This month we are so excited to kick off The Wives Restoration Series, a four-part series giving us a glimpse into the lives of 4 different wives and their side of their husband's restoration story. This week we sit down with Nyasha, as she shares her journey through dating, deaths in the family, and a thriving marriage with her husband Cesar. Nyasha grew up in the church and later attended Lancaster Bible College. Through her best friend, she met Cesar, and their story began. Despite coming from different ends of the country and different upbringings, their faith in God ultimately drew them together.  Their relationship blossomed, with Caesar demonstrating spiritual leadership even while dating. But life wasn't without challenges. Caesar faced deep loss, and together they endured a difficult season in their marriage. Through prayer and encouragement, Nyasha reminded him of his calling and God's faithfulness. Men's of Iron's Anchoredman Bootcamp (menofiron.org/product/anchoredman-leaderpack) became a pivotal experience for Caesar, helping him grow spiritually and connect with other men. Moving from California to Pennsylvania, Caesar found it hard to form close friendships, but this program became a bridge, strengthening him as a husband, father, and leader. "When men are committed to leading well the ripple effect it has on their families and communities." Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate In this episode of our Men and the Church series, we talk with Dave Towers from Community Fellowship Church (CFC) in Lancaster, PA. As the leader of men's ministry at CFC, Dave shares his passion for investing in men, building leadership, and creating opportunities for connection and growth. We explore practical ways to engage men in the church by offering a space for men to have fellowship and deepen relationships. "We don't want to just preach at them, they get that enough, we want to give them a chance to talk and connect with other men." Dave emphasizes the importance of mentorship and how small group events can lead into mentorship opportunities for men. "We don't want our men's ministry to grow because the church grows, we want it to be strong enough that it helps the church grow." Men often don't realize how much they need other men in their life. Building a strong men's ministry gives guys an opportunity to find that and recognize the need for community. We want men to be more than just a Sunday morning Christian. As we get guys into mentorships, we don't want their growth to just stay within the church walls. We want to see men being discipled and then going out into their community to make more disciples. By creating opportunities for men to build meaningful relationships, the church becomes a catalyst for transformation—not just within its walls, but in the community and beyond. Kevin connected with Men of Iron through LCBC's search for impactful small group material and found A Man's Game Plan (https://www.menofiron.org/game-plan). LCBC's city campus has doubled its men's ministry through grassroots efforts, focusing on engaging and connecting with men. As they focus on equipping men, they want them to understand that they are the spiritual leaders of the home, but many men have a hard time seeing this. Helping men understand their responsibility as spiritual leaders positively impacts families and future generations. "Some guys don't really believe they are the spiritual leader of their home." We dive into practical strategies for helping men grow spiritually, from setting SMART goals in faith, family, friends, fitness, and finances to building accountability through mentoring. Kevin emphasizes the importance of meeting men where they are and creating trust to help them take their next step in their faith journey. Men need other men to encourage them and hold them accountable.  As we continue this series, we'll explore how a lifestyle of mentorship and discipleship not only builds stronger men but a stronger church. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate In this episode, Lead Pastor Mike Snedeker from Community Evangelical Church (CEC) in Sinking Spring, PA, shares insights on the importance of men's ministry and the transformative role that Men of Iron has played in the church. For 13 years, CEC has partnered with Men of Iron to help men re-engage in church leadership and live out their biblical roles. Pastor Mike observes that modern culture often pulls men away from faith and into careers and hobbies, leading to a disengagement from church. Through mentorship programs like Strong27, CEC has seen men prioritize their faith, spend time in Scripture, and grow in leadership, ultimately transforming their families and communities. Mike highlights that intentional discipleship, modeled after Jesus' example of mentoring a few to influence many, is essential for church growth. He encourages men to consider who they can mentor and emphasizes that true change begins with placing God at the center of one's life. "When you orient your life to the things of scripture, that becomes the drive of your life instead of the other way around." Pastor Mike concludes by affirming that Men of Iron has been pivotal in CEC's journey, helping them focus on disciple-making rather than attracting large numbers. This approach has deeply impacted their church culture, aligning them more closely with Jesus' call for the church to equip and send out disciples. As we continue this series, we'll explore how a lifestyle of mentorship and discipleship not only builds stronger men but a stronger church. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate In today's episode, we're kicking off a new series called The Church Needs Men Series, exploring the vital role of men in ministry. Paul Andrulonis, Associate Pastor at Sailors Union Grace Church in Maryland, joins us for Week 1. Growing up in a ministry family, Paul shares insights on why men are called to lead, serve, and live with purpose in the church. He emphasizes, “We must focus on people, not just the work,” and how essential it is for men to disciple and train others in their faith. Men have a unique calling to lead, care for families, and take steps of faith—even when it's uncomfortable. Often, men are hesitant because they fear vulnerability and the costs of leadership, but Jesus emulated for us what servant leadership looks like. Paul discusses how culture increasingly downplays the importance of men, but the church must counter this by affirming men's roles and encouraging them to step up. "Men are an integral part of the church and it's important for us to focus on them." A crucial part of men's ministry is mentorship and identifying who can mentor and disciple and who needs mentorship. For young men, having godly mentors to answer hard questions and help navigate life stages—from new jobs to marriage and fatherhood—is invaluable. Church leaders play an essential role in identifying men who need discipleship. Young men looking for more mature leaders is important but godly men looking for young men to mentor is just as important. We need to think through the lends of who can disciple me and who can I disciple. It has to be that reciprocation of discipleship, that's what Jesus emulated while he was here. That is a huge part of men's ministry, being discipled and discipling others. Discipleship and mentorship never ends, it is a lifestyle.  As we continue this series, we'll explore how a lifestyle of mentorship and discipleship not only builds stronger men but a stronger church. Raised in a tough family marked by alcoholism, lies, and money laundering, Phil often felt out of place. His life took a pivotal turn when he met his future wife as a teenager, whose influence—and that of her family—led him to faith in Jesus. "If I hadn't met my wife and the Lord, I think I would have committed suicide." After decades of shoving stuff under the rug, the early years of marriage and fatherhood for Phil started to bring messy things to the surface. Forcing Phil and his wife to work through past wounds. It was through this season that Phil started to understand the heart of God and what it truly means to have a Father. God used those experiences to show Phil what it looks like to lead his family. With the support of mentors, he learned to lead his family from a place of humility and service rather than power and control. Walking closely with the Lord Phil is seeing God's heart and the good plans He has for him and his family. "He's rescued me from crazy situations and using those for heart change."  Phil's heart for the Lord is evident in this conversation. He is actively pursuing the Lord and what God has for him. He has broken a generation cycle and wants to leave a legacy of a man who loved the Lord and ferociously pursued Him. A legacy of advancing the Kingdom.  Thanks for watching the Restoration Series! Growing up in Arizona with a single mom who avoided religion, Zack left home at 18 to join the military. After two tours in Afghanistan, he returned home struggling with PTSD and wanting to end his life. "The one time was really bad, I was sitting in a tub with a gun to my head and couldn't pull the trigger." In a moment of desperation, Zack sought answers from any religion he could find before his wife gifted him his first Bible. Zack knew if something didn't change he wasn't going to be around much longer. Through a business meeting, Zack met Dan and their conversation quickly turned to God. It was this life-changing conversation with Dan that would put Zack on a new trajectory. Weeks later an encounter with the Holy Spirit changed EVERYTHING. Zack prayed his first prayer to God in his kitchen and dropped to his knees. "Looking back I know it was an encounter with the Holy Spirit, I felt all of my sin lifted off of my shoulders." Now, Zack mentors other men, shares his faith with non-believers, and has even led family members to Christ. His faith journey has also strengthened his marriage, which had been strained by past mistakes. "Knowing what God did for me in such a dark spot, I know he can do it for other people." Justin talks about battling his addiction for years, the key to finding freedom was bringing other people into the journey. Relationships and accountability are key to finding freedom and healing. There is something powerful about relationships within the body of Christ. Men, you need accountability in your life. Be authentic and real with the Lord and others. When you confess your sins to one another there is forgiveness there. There is a path to freedom that God wants you to take, and it is so much better than the path you are on. But YOU have to be the one to pursue it and you have to pursue it with others alongside you. When we live intentionally on this path, we start to see things how God sees things. From the very beginning we have been promised something so good, a relationship with God. So put down the old and pick up what is truly good, God. Whatever you are struggling with that consumes your mind, put that time and energy into God and see what He does. The Lord wants what's best for you, but He is not going to force you into it. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate Justin and Tony are back on the pod for the final week of our series on Lust, Sexual Addiction and Pornography. Today we are talking about fighting lust, not porn. What exactly is lust? Lust is a strong, intense desire for something. Lust replaces God's design for intimacy and connection with sinful desires that are outside of His creation. When we get outside of those bounds, it leads to death and destruction. We take what God intended to be natural and we change it for our selfish gain. How are you honoring the image of God in other people? Remember, when you look at a woman lustfully, that is God's daughter. "I've mad a covenant with my eyes." Job 31:1 (NIV) Ultimately, our eyes connect to our brain, our thoughts connect to our heart and desires. Lust starts with what we see and think. It's not just a physical thing, lust is a bigger deal than just pornography. We have to approach the issue holistically – mental, emotional, spiritual, etc. Despite all the messiness and brokenness you may be facing, there is grace! God wants the best for YOU. You cannot overcome sexual addiction on your own. Today we are talking about Pastors and Porn and how pornography greatly affects Christian leaders and the Church. Statistics say that 50-57% of pastors admit they struggle with pornography. So why are we not having conversations about sexual addiction in the church? One, it is a "taboo" topic and an uncomfortable and messy topic. Pastors and churches are afraid to admit it and talk about it that it is an issue. For pastors specifically, it is a struggle that IF they admit it could jeopardize everything. Another issue is some churches are afraid if they talk about the uncomfortable issues, people will stop showing up. To the pastors, church leaders and men listening to this, the Church is a place for the broken. We can't build towards what God has for us if we are pretending and faking. There is freedom in being vulnerable and being transparent! James 5:16 says, "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:16 (NIV). The power of not being real is keeping us from all that God has for us. It's time to confess, get accountability and work towards freedom. You cannot overcome sexual addiction on your own. Today we are talking about How Porn is Ruining Your Marriage. Stats say nearly 40% of married men seek out illicit images on a regular basis. 56% of marriages that end in divorce at least one spouse was obsessed with porn. Pornography is part of the picture but not all of it when it comes to sexual addiction. A lot of men fail to admit that they have a sexual addiction. If you keep going back to whatever your thing is, that's an addiction. Jesus says in Matthew 5:27, when you look at a woman lustfully you have already committed adultery in your heart. Jesus raises the standard. It starts with a look and can easily lead to other things. What is that look going to cost you? Your addiction to porn leads to objectifying woman, including your wife. You are ultimately measuring your wife up against these images on the screen. Sexual addiction is self-focused. The more we are lusting after things we want, we are not going after the things God wants. We are designed for connection and intimacy with God and others. Men, don't hide it anymore. It is ruining your marriage. You cannot overcome sexual addiction on your own. It's a topic and struggle that the Church and men in general have a hard time talking about. This episode we are talking about How Sexual Addiction Rewires the Brain. God designed us for intimacy and connection. That design is broken when we replace healthy relationships and things with unhealthy relationships. Pornograpy creates a chemical dependency. It's proven that sexual addiction actually changes and rewires your brain. When we continue in the same addiction/pattern, the neurons form in that direction and create a real visible path in your brain. Our brains start to depend on the highs that are given from these addictions. If you are struggling with sexual addiction, you have to know the science behind it and understand how your brain operates. You have to rewire your brain, to rewire means to stop going down the old path and start going down a new path. Men, whatever you are struggling with, there is freedom. It is possible! You want your kids to be like you because you are trying to be like God. If you want to leave a legacy of a man who pursued God and impressed that on his kids – take them to church, read them God's Word, show them how to love your wife as Christ loved the church. The Men of Iron BODcast is back for Week 3 with Justin and Roman! This week we are talking about the dangers of fitness becoming an idol. "Whatever you do, do it ALL for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31. If you don't view your fitness and body through a God-centered lens, it can quickly become an idol. This happens when you start putting your identity in your looks, or what you can accomplish through fitness, instead of God. What are some red flags to tell if you are making fitness an idol? #1 - Spending too much time at the gym that it takes away from God or your family #2 - If it doesn't bring you a healthy excitement and joy When we talk about fitness becoming an idol there are two sides. There are men who spend too much time working out and men who don't spend any time or enough time working out. The overall mortality rate is 41 percent higher for men than women, and it's higher for men for 8 out of 10 leading causes of death—including heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes (Indiana State University Report). There are probably more men listening on the "I don't prioritize my fitness" side of the coin. Men, God believes that you are worth it, you can do it. God wants to use your physical body for the relationships around you – for your wife, kids, neighbors, friends. It starts with building healthy habit. As we read in 1 Corinthians 6:19, "You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." Fitness matters because of the Gospel, you were bought at a price, so honor God with your body. Take a moment and think about why you work out? Is it to glorify God or for personal gain? God wants you to use your physical abilities to glorify Him, serve others and live out your purpose. Like we learned last week, your body is a temple and your fitness is ultimately about honoring the Holy Spirit who lives inside of you. Running a marathon, going to the gym regularly, getting in shape, eating healthy. These are all great things that we SHOULD pursue, but God has to be at the center. Do it ALL for the glory of God. Fitness matters because of the Gospel, you were bought at a price, so honor God with your body. If you have struggled with your fitness for years it can feel overwhelming or intimidating to know where to start. The Men of Iron BODcast is back with Justin and Roman! In the month of June we will be talking all about fitness and why it matters. How do we glorify God with our fitness? What does the Bible say about health and wellness? Fitness is more than just going to the gym, we need to think of fitness through a wholistic lens. Sleep, stress, mental health, nutrition, mobility, weights, cardio, etc. It's a topic that the Church often ignores. Men, in order to live out the purpose God has for you, your physical and mental health matter! What are some reasons men haven't prioritized fitness? Life is too busy, don't know where to start, it costs money or maybe it causes pain. As we read in 1 Corinthians 6:19, "You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." Fitness matters because of the Gospel, you were bought at a price, so honor God with your body. If you have struggled with your fitness for years it can feel overwhelming or intimidating to know where to start. Ryan and Tony are back for Week 4 of The Friend Series as we wrap up the month talking about mentorship. One-to-one mentorship is at the heart of what we do at Men of Iron. We believe every man should be involved in a mentorship. Tony shares his journey of how having a mentor has greatly impacted his life. Men, we all have purpose and finding that purpose is easier when you have another man walking alongside you. Mentors hold you accountable, challenge you, and encourage you to be the best man you can be. We all need accountability in our lives, we can't do it on our own. Getting involved in a mentorship will have a generational impact. If you don't know how to find a mentor, think of a friend in your life who is a season or two ahead of you. Ask that friend to mentor you and see what happens. If you need some help finding a mentor or protege, we would love to help. Apply today at www.menofiron.org/strong27. Your life will benefit from having a mentor. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate Ryan and Tony are back for Week 3 of The Friend Series as we take a look at friendship in the Bible. From Lazarus and Jesus to David and Jonathan, the Bible provides several examples of really solid friendships. Friendship takes intentionality and effort and Jesus models true friendship for us in His life of ministry. His friends were the faithful men who carried on the mission of Jesus after his death. The story of David and Jonathan, another great example of friendship in the Bible. David meets Jonathan and they become friends, even though David and Saul are essentially political rivals. That's what makes this friendship so shocking. Jonathan was more concerned with God's plans than his own plans. David and Jonathan were great friends because they served a great God together. That was the most important part of their friendship. How can we apply this type of friendship and obedience to our own lives? You need a friendship like David and Jonathan in your life. When you serve God, everything else in your life will be better. Think about someone in your life who could benefit from being your friend. Text that guy today and start investing in them. Can You Have Non-Christian Friends? (EP. 222)

Ryan and Tony are back for Week 2 of The Friend Series as we talk about balancing Christian and non-Christian friendships. This episode is NOT about getting rid of your friends who are don't know or love Jesus. It's about evaluating your friendships and ultimately using these relationships to help you and others grow closer to God. Jesus was known for hanging out with sinners, but his inner circle was made up of men who were striving to be godly. The closest voices in your life should be men who point you closer to Jesus. Take inventory of your friends. Who are your closest friends? Are they bringing you closer to Jesus? Who are some men in your life who you can point closer to Jesus? Men, relationships don't grow by accident. Friendships get harder as we get older with family, kids, work, etc. It takes intentionality to sustain close  friendships. Think about some friendships in your life that need attention and act on that today.
