Coach Tony Holler turned the “old style” of coaching on its head. He realized kids hated track. What had to change to make kids where they not only enjoyed track but, it was the best part of their day.  Coach Holler has worked extremely hard to get his ideas out there in a way that can help athletes and coaches work together to get performance based results in every sport. It was a great conversation about stripping the fluff out of practice and getting to the aspects that make kids better athletes. Tired is the enemy and top performance is the goal. Compete and track progress to allow growth but, leave at the end with gas in their tank. A remarkable Coach to say the least. Tony covers a lot of ground in the interview and answers every question completely with honest answers that he is passionate about. If we could all take away a little something from him the world of athletics and life, the world will be a better place.https://coachtube.com/users/tonyhollerhttps://youtube.com/@platesandpancakes4593https://instagram.com/voodoo4power?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=https://voodoo4ranch.com/To possibly be a guest or support the show email Voodoo4ranch@gmail.comhttps://www.paypal.com/paypalme/voodoo4ranch

Tony Holler is the boy's track coach at Plainfield North H.S. (IL). In 2018 Coach Holler's team swept the sprints - 4x100m, 4x200m, 100m, 200m - at the IHSA State Meet, setting two state records. He’s been coaching high school athletes for 38 years. Tony is the owner of “Feed the Cats,” a system for training sprinters that is being implemented throughout the United States by high school track coaches. He is also the co-owner of Track Football Consortium, a site where he not only writes on the topic of sprinting, but he’s also written articles on distance running, such as the profile of John O’Malley (episode 002), which you can read it here. In this interview we go into detail about the elements Coach Holler uses with his sprinters that he believes distance coaches should be implementing. There are some specific questions, such as how he views someone like Peter Snell doing 20-mile long runs as part of middle distance training. He’s got a great answer to that question. Tony and I discuss what needs to be done to improve track and field in the United States - a subject that may well deserve a follow-up episode. Thank you, Tony, for your time and energy. “They’ve adopted the idea that I have that being tired is not the goal, being tired is the enemy. Once you start thinking like that you’ve drank the Kool-Aid, and all of a sudden kids will love your program. You’ll get every kid out, and they’ll be ready to play or ready to run.” In this weeks edition of The Podcast we sit down and talk speed development with Tony Holler. Tony is a chemistry teacher, football coach, track coach in Illinois, and writer. Coach Holler starts out by sharing with us how he breaks down training, and what minimal dose/micro dose means to him. This includes a day by day breakdown of how he programs his work with his sprinters with specific examples of each day. The conversation then turns into how he got to the point where the idea of minimal dosing came to fruition, and why he stayed with these methods. He then touches upon his “Herding Cats”, where it came from, and why it’s been successful. Tony then breaks down day by day, each goal, and where the parameters came from. He then rolls right into how this program fits with his football team, and how they train. We then discuss some issues with Track Coaches, and where he sees some of the short comings in the set up of teams, along with the fears many football coaches have with his system. We then discuss some of the misconceptions of his programming, and what truly drives the success of what they’re doing with their athletes. He finishes off discussing RPR, how it’s grown, and where he see’s it fitting in with athletic development. Make sure to check him out on Twitter: @PNTrack and at http://trackfootballconsortium.com.
