Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are here to breakdown the UFC Vegas 42 Fight Night event, which was broadcast from the APEX Center in Las Vegas, NV. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. The UFC showcased a Featherweight Tilt in the main event of UFC Vegas 42. We had future Hall-of-Famer, the former UFC Featherweight Champion, Hawaiian born, Max ‘Blessed' Holloway. He won that title defeating José Aldo at UFC 212 while holding the interim title, then defending that title three times. He is #1 in the UFC Featherweight rankings and #7 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings. He has a storied list of arguably the most decorated and impressive UFC career accomplishments. Not that it's any surprise, but Max entered the Octagon a massive favorite against his combatant, Yair ‘El Pantera' Rodriguez, who was returning after two years away. Yair was on a two-fight win streak however, and if he were to come away victorious tonight, he would have gotten a shot at that title Gold, hoping to gain the second championship for Mexico. You may recall that Rodriguez was the winning alum from The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America's 2014 tournament. He was currently ranked #3 in the UFC Featherweight rankings. Meanwhile, the co-main event featured Heavyweights, Ben Rothwell, with a record of 39-13 and Marcos ‘Pezão' Rogério de Lima, with a record of 18-7. Both men were entering the Octagon today with one win each under their belts. Happy Monday Colorado MMA Fans! It was a successful weekend past for Colorado MMA fighters and now it's time to get back on the grind, but worry not, because you only have to wait two more days until another UFC Fight Card! But before we start looking towards the next event, let's take a moment to review this past weekend's incredible fight action in your Colorado MMA News, Weekend WrapUp. LFA 97 went down this past Friday night and two Colorado fighters were featured on the card. Elevation Fight Team's Claire “Grizzly” Guthrie got the night started off right with a beautiful three-round performance that saw her take home a unanimous decision victory. Guthrie has continued to improve her striking and movement from fight to fight and her hard work paid off on Friday night as she improved to 2-1 as a pro. Not to be outdone, Michael Stack of Trials MMA got back to his winning ways with a dominant, 2nd rnd TKO win over Jordan Mapa to move to 5-1 as a pro. Congratulations to both fighters on their impressive, victorious performances. And in new matchup announcements… Austin “Osmosis” Jones (8-5) of Factory X will step up on just two weeks notice to face Tyler Ray (6-2) in a welterweight contest at Extreme MMA in West Palm Beach Florida on January 30th. Additionally, after winning a UFC contract on the Dana White Contender Series back in September, Collin Anglin (8-1) of Factory X will make his big-show debut on short notice, February 6th at UFC Fight Night where he will take on Seungwoo Choi (8-3) in a featherweight contest. Anglin will be joining his Factory X teammate, Devonte Smith (10-2) on the card as Smith makes his much anticipated return from an achilles tendon injury and surgery. Smith will face Alex Da Silva (21-3) in lightweight matchup. In the co-main event of the evening, Cory Sandhagen (13-2) of Elevation Fight Team will look to stake his claim as number one contender in the bantamweight division when he takes on former UFC champion, Frankie Edgar at 135 lbs. And headlining the event will be a heavyweight clash between Elevation Fight Team's Alistair Overeem (47-18) and Alexander Volkov (32-8). You will be able to stream the fights live on ESPN+.
