The longest-tenured and last official drummer, he performed in the band from 2004 until his departure in 2010.Bryar joined the band in 2004 replacing former drummer Matt Pelissier during a tour in Japan which was held shortly after the release of their second studio album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004). He performed on all of the subsequent releases in support of the album, as well as the band's commercially successful concept album, The Black Parade (2006). Despite suffering numerous injuries while on tour, Bryar continued to tour with the band and joined them in the studio to record their fourth studio album before departing from My Chemical Romance in 2010. His final contribution was performing on the band's final release before their disbandment in 2013, Conventional Weapons. After his departure from the band, Bryar became a behind-the-scenes figure in tours for several bands before retiring from music in 2014. He subsequently became a real estate agent and an active supporter of dog rescue charities and sanctuaries. Everyone Dies In Sunderland: A podcast about growing up terrified in the eighties and nineties
The gang returns to 1993 to explore the unsolved murder which took place at the end of John's road, the killing of takeaway delivery driver Paul Logan. John writes to the Queen. Claire explains where baby foxes come from. Gareth loses 52% of the audience. The IRA fail to stop Mr Blobby. Digressions in this episode include: The Animals of Farthing Wood, the varied career of composer Hans Zimmer, the alarming pre-“All She Wants” career of one of Ace of Bass, floating candles, children getting lost while potholing and seduction tips from both Shane Richie and a “love guru and Chris de Burgh lookalike”. Everyone Dies in Sunderland explores some of the darkest moments of North East history, and includes jokes. These jokes will never be at the expense of victims or their families and will always be at the expense of people who deserve to be mocked, robbed of their power and shown up for the idiots they really are. If you're easily offended or personally connected to the events we're discussing though, you probably shouldn't listen. For all our snark and irreverence we do really hope that bringing this case to a wider audience helps get Paul justice and his family closure. If you have any information about the Paul Logan case, please please please Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or use their anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org Here is a recent Northumbria Police appeal on the case: https://beta.northumbria.police.uk/latest-news/2018/december/daughter-of-man-killed-25-years-ago-issues-heartfelt-appeal-on-25th-anniversary/ Here is a similar appeal from Durham Police: https://www.durham.police.uk/news-and-events/Pages/Reward-offered-to-solve-.aspx Our theme music is the song “Steady Away” by Pete Dilley and can be found on his album Half-truths and Hearsay which you can/should buy/stream here: https://petedilley.bandcamp.com/album/half-truths-and-hearsay You can reach us on email everyonediesinsunderland@gmail.com, on Twitter at @everyonediespod, on Facebook and Instagram. Between this world and the next, there lies the void, the twilight zone, the in between. In this episode we delve into what My Chemical Romance got up to between The Black Parade and Danger Days. Tune in to hear us cover Gerard's pirate pants in "Desolation Row," the wrong turn into Conventional Weapons, and an oddly prophetic music video. Why are we so concerned about lethal autonomous weapons? Ariel spoke to four experts –– one physician, one lawyer, and two human rights specialists –– all of whom offered their most powerful arguments on why the world needs to ensure that algorithms are never allowed to make the decision to take a life. It was even recorded from the United Nations Convention on Conventional Weapons, where a ban on lethal autonomous weapons was under discussion. We've compiled their arguments, along with many of our own, and now, we want to turn the discussion over to you. We’ve set up a comments section on the FLI podcast page (www.futureoflife.org/whyban), and we want to know: Which argument(s) do you find most compelling? Why?
In breaking news, Andy and Dave discuss the Convention on Conventional Weapons meeting on lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWs) at the United Nations, where more than 70 countries are participating in the sixth meeting since 2014. Highlights include the priorities for discussion, as well as the UK delegation's role and position. The Pentagon’s AI programs get a boost in the defense budget. DARPA announces the Automating Scientific Knowledge Extraction (ASKE) project, with the lofty goal of building an AI tool that can automatically generate, test, and refine its own scientific hypotheses. Google employees react to and protest the company’s secret, censored search engine (Dragonfly) for China. The Electronic Frontier Foundation releases a white paper on Mitigating the Risks of Military AI, which includes applications outside of the “kill chain.” And Brookings releases the results of a survey that asks people whether AI technologies should be developed for warfare.
Although today's hot topic is nuclear proliferation, let's not forget that wars like Syria are being fought with conventional ones, such as aircraft and artillery. Jonathan Caverley has an intriguing and practical proposal to slow down the spread of these deadly weapons.
