Last week, the Senate Armed Services Committee held a confirmation hearing for the man President Trump has selected to be the Nation's top military officer: Lieutenant General John Caine. This warrior's replacement of Joe Biden's Joint Chiefs Chairman, General C.Q. Brown, couldn't be more welcome – or needed. General Caine, known by his Air Force pilot's call sign “Raizin,” was not only selected over myriad active duty four-star officers. He was also pulled out of retirement to take on this key job at a particularly fraught moment. In contrast to the previous chairman, he has focused on war-fighting, rather than promoting divisive, cultural Marxist “Woke” agendas. The Trump team of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman Raizin Caine promises to provide the reboot of our military we urgently need. Let us pray they have time to reestablish the practice of “peace through strength.” This is Frank Gaffney.

On this episode of CD Burners, the guys are pulling back the layers of the album some would call the pinnacle of emo, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance. The album's producer, Howard Benson joins the guys to give an inside look at what it was like to work on an album that shaped culture and proved that emo is so much more than just a genre.
Jordan and Alex smear their best mascara across their tear-stained eyes for an episode on My Chemical Romance's "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" and the brief moment when the innacurate catchall genre of "emo" dominated rock radio. They'll explore how 9/11 -- and the DIY music scene of New Brunswick, New Jersey -- spurred a young illustrator and Cartoon Network intern named Gerard Way into transforming himself into a messianic rock frontman; how the band's early trio of videos cemented them as MTV darlings, and how the band's early rise was nearly derailed by Way's heroic intake of alcohol. They'll also trace the roots of "emo" from the D.C. hardcore scene of the '80s as it sprouted and transformed in the Midwest and Northeast, pine for the days of major-label interest in niche bands, marvel at some of Way's more hilariously youthful soundbites, and learn how "I'm Not Okay" came together from an a cappella recording at the tail end of a demo tape. The Supreme Court has recently issued rulings in three cases involving speech-based arrests, demonstrating increased scrutiny of such incidents. In a span of four months, the Court reversed three lower court decisions that had previously granted immunity to government officials accused of arresting individuals for their speech. The cases are Gonzalez v. Trevino, decided on June 20, 2024; Murphy v. Schmitt, summarily reversed on October 7, 2024; and Villarreal v. Alaniz, summarily reversed on October 15, 2024. These rulings allow the cases to proceed, giving the plaintiffs an opportunity to pursue legal action against the government officials responsible for their arrests. Despite the diverse factual backgrounds of these cases, the Court's consistent approach suggests a heightened focus on protecting First Amendment rights. The Supreme Court's recent decisions may have significant implications for First Amendment jurisprudence and future cases involving speech-related arrests.Join us for a conversation about these three cases and their possible ramifications. The longest-tenured and last official drummer, he performed in the band from 2004 until his departure in 2010.Bryar joined the band in 2004 replacing former drummer Matt Pelissier during a tour in Japan which was held shortly after the release of their second studio album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004). He performed on all of the subsequent releases in support of the album, as well as the band's commercially successful concept album, The Black Parade (2006). Despite suffering numerous injuries while on tour, Bryar continued to tour with the band and joined them in the studio to record their fourth studio album before departing from My Chemical Romance in 2010. His final contribution was performing on the band's final release before their disbandment in 2013, Conventional Weapons. After his departure from the band, Bryar became a behind-the-scenes figure in tours for several bands before retiring from music in 2014. He subsequently became a real estate agent and an active supporter of dog rescue charities and sanctuaries. In November 2024, Bryar was found dead in his home at the age of 44.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:12 UTC on Sunday, 1 December 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Bob Bryar on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Nicole.

In this week's Dissidents Podcast, Jennifer Richmond and Winkfield Twyman, Jr. speak with Ian Rowe. Ian recently wrote a review of their book (Letters in Black and White: A New Correspondence on Race in America), which he entitled Three Cheers for Colorblindness. Wink and Jen, much like they start their book, start the conversation with Ian by getting his “origin story,” i.e. what makes you tick?? The author of Agency: The Four Point Plan (F.R.E.E) for All Children to Overcome the Victimhood Narrative and Discover Their Pathway to Power, shares with us his upbringing and family foundations, that leads into the discussion of Wink's ancestral ties to America's founding father, George Washington. With such rich origin stories, why do we reduce individuals to the singular characteristic of race (the single drop rule)? The dearth of nuance and complexity that is denied when we tell our children that “blackness is oppression, nothing else matters,” constrains us from a full life of self-determination, agency and the dignity of achievement. At the end of the day, we are all cousins and recognizing that common humanity is the best path forward.
