“I offer my obeisances unto you, O daughter of Daksha. Indeed, I have entered your mouth, and the truth of the boon granted to you has been maintained. I shall now go to where Vaidehi is.” (Hanuman speaking to Surasa, Valmiki Ramayana, Sundara Kand, 1.169)

There is a way in which, if we become aligned with a Vaiṣṇava and we are able to please the Vaiṣṇava, then we can understand that we are pleasing Kṛṣṇa. The other way is that when we understand clearly what Kṛṣṇa's intentions and desires are, and we know we are aligned with them properly, then we can assume that we are also pleasing Kṛṣṇa. This is because guru, sādhu, and śāstra are all in alignment. Since I mentioned the sādhu, it's helpful to get confirmation. You know, devotees are careful about that. For instance, Kavirāja Gosvāmī, when he was about to write the Caitanya Caritāmṛta, everyone told him he should do it, but he still went to the Deity and said, "Should I do it?" A garland fell down, and everyone said, "Yay!" So, devotees are careful to check in with the guru, make sure they're following śāstra, and the sādhus can be really helpful, because it's easy to doubt oneself. But if you have people around you who have your best interest in mind, and you can consult with them and say, "How am I doing?" you will find it's helpful, because it's hard to see sometimes how we're doing. There are also detractors. As soon as you try to do something for Kṛṣṇa, then somebody is going to come along and say, "You're doing it completely wrong." So, you have to have trusted people that you can say, "Am I really doing it wrong, or am I okay? The krishna-ekadaśi (11th day of the waning moon) right before Phalahārinī Pūjā is known as the Apara-ekadaśi and it coincides with Bhadrakālī Jayanti, the celebration of Mā in her "auspicious" form. While the word "Bhadra" (which can be both a noun and an adjective) means something like "auspicious", "noble", "protectress" etc. we have to ask: what does that really mean? Is this a gentle (saumya) form of Kālī as contrasted with how She is usually depicted in Her smaśāna/ghora (cremation ground/fierce) form? Or do we just have to update our understanding of the word "auspicious" to include even those aspects of life that the mind rejects? In this talk, we read excerpts from Swami Vivekananda's Bengali poem to Kālĩ "And Let Shyāma Dance There" we we learn about the Worship of the Terrible and Mā's Non-Dual, All-Inclusive Form which will radically change the way we understand "auspicious"-ness in the context of spiritual life. Also, we tell some stories from the Puranas to make the case that Vīra-bhadra, in the well-known immolation of Sati/destrcution of Daksha's sacrifice story can be seen as synonymous with Bhadrakālī. Of course, I make a case as to why the latter, female version is better, theologically. This will help us understand why Mā in many of her sahasranāmas stotravalis (thousand names hymns) is called "Daksha-yajña-vināśinī", the one who destroys Daksha's sacrifice. The Somnath Jyotirlinga is deeply connected to Lord Shiva through a rich and ancient legend. Legend of Somnath Jyotirlinga: According to Hindu mythology, the legend of Somnath Jyotirlinga is associated with the Moon God, Chandra (Soma). Chandra, the Moon God, had married 27 daughters of Daksha Prajapati, but he favored one wife, Rohini, over the others. After two pregnancies, health and fitness was always on Daksha's mind. She wanted to feel, look and perform at her best, but nothing really clicked for her. Until her husband Devin came home one day and suggested they jump on RNT together. Having never weight trained before, Daksha went all in on the process to push herself beyond what she thought was possible. "The gods created the Goddess Speech, whom animals of all sorts speak. This Speech is pleasing to us, this cow yielding food and strength. She is well praised; may She come to us."   कालरात्रीं ब्रह्मस्तुतां वैष्णवीं स्कन्दमातरम् | सरस्वतीमदितैं दक्षदुहितरं नमामः पावनां शिवाम् || ४७ || kāla-rātrīṃ brahma-stutāṃ vaiṣṇavīṃ skanda-mātaram | sarasvatīm-aditaiṃ dakṣa-duhitaraṃ namāmaḥ pāvanāṃ śivām || 47 || 47. "To Kalaratri, praised by Brahma, to Vaishnavi, to the Mother of Skanda, to Saraswati, to Aditi, the Daughter of Daksha, we bow, to the pure Auspicious One."   महालक्ष्म्यै च विद्महे सर्वशक्त्यै च धीमहि | तन्नो देवी प्रचोदयात् || ४८ || mahā-lakṣmyai ca vidmahe  sarva-śaktyai ca dhīmahi | tanno devī pracodayāt || 48 || 48. "We know You as Mahalakshmi, we meditate on You as the Shakti of all.
