Ajahn Dhammasiha shares reflections how to cultivate mindfulness (Sati) in daily life. He points out the importance of being aware/mindful of our intentions, as intention (cetana) is what creates karma. We also have to be mindful of our emotions and feelings (3rd & 2nd Satipaṭṭhāna/Foundation of Mindfulness). Pleasant and unpleasant feeling (vedanā) is the primary motivator for all our actions. Finally, it's so important to develop mindfulness of our body, re-connecting with out body, feeling our body, instead of being stuck in mental proliferations and mobile phone screens.WebsiteOur Spotify PlaylistsNewsletterDhammagiri Youtube ChannelPics#mindfulness #satipatthana #buddhism #buddhist #dhamma #dhammatalk
Today's poem is Sati by Vandana Khanna. The Slowdown is your daily poetry ritual. In this episode, Maggie writes… “Today's poem is a persona poem from the point of view of a Hindu goddess, Sati. The practice of a widow throwing herself on her husband's funeral pyre is named after Sati, who, in this poem, gets to speak. I think you'll be moved by what she has to say.” Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today. Every donation makes a difference: https://tinyurl.com/rjm4synp

Dr. Sati and Praj unpack the “spirituality of money,” linking Vedic elements, doshas (Vata/Pitta/Kapha), and the three gunas to how we earn, spend, and stress—especially in today's shiny-object, Vata-leaning economy. They break down the Three F's of money (fight/flight/freeze), map money behaviors by constitution (Vata's earn-spend cycles, Pitta's purposeful investing, Kapha's hoarding), and offer practical swaps—redirect daily coffee runs, eating out, fast fashion, and even certain healthcare habits toward training, coaching, and long-term wellness ROI. 00:00 Welcome to the Woman Warrior Podcast03:58 Trainer Eyes and Circle Announcements08:01 Seasonal Changes and Wellness Check-In29:37 The Spirituality of Money40:09 Understanding Pitta and Money Flow42:36 Vata Traits and Financial Behavior43:18 Kapha's Financial Stability47:46 The Spiritual Perspective on Money51:33 Investing in Health and Fitness01:02:30 The Cost of Entertainment and Technology01:06:49 Healthcare and Spirituality of Money01:17:04 Final Thoughts and Truth BombBe sure to Like and Subscribe for more! There's a case I read about in a book, 'How to Win an Argument', by a professor from York University. He talked about how there are different kinds of arguing. He gave the case of fanatics and said, "Here's how you deal with a fanatic." Then you turn the page, and there was one word: "Don't." In columning when people utter untruths in order to defame somebody, if you enter into it and you are not expert enough, it just makes it worse. Some people are hell-bent. They have lost all sense of restraint. They have this sense of envy, and they want to criticize others, so they go about it wholeheartedly. That is basically their livelihood. So, sometimes, when people are fanatical like that, engaging more, especially on the internet—can become an endless proposition that becomes tit for tat, very difficult to untangle such a situation. De maneira clara, direta e bíblica, este Debate 93 fala sobre o aborto e você não pode perder!!!
Women's History, Episode #1 of 4. In 1987, the last reported instance of sati threw India into a maelstrom of furious debate and conflict following the ritual suicide of Roop Kanwar after her young husband's death. Nearly 150 years earlier, British colonial officer Lord William Bentinck passed a prohibition on sati in British India. As Roop Kanwar's death suggests, British colonial rule did not end the practice of sati in India - not at the time of that prohibition, not in the 30 years that followed as the British East India Company tried to expand their influence into the subcontinent Rajputs that were nominally autonomous, and not before, during, or after Indian independence. Widowed girls and women (and yes, we'll come back to the specificity of girls and women later) continued to climb onto their dead husband's funeral pyres and burn alive, whether because they believed it was their duty, because they felt they had no other choice, because they couldn't face a future where their widowhood would be socially and culturally enforced until they died anyway, or because their religious fervor and/or grief moved them to suicide by fire. The history - and experience - of sati in India is complicated, made more so by the ham-fisted intervention of British colonialism, the rise of Hindu nationalism in the late nineteenth century, and the growth of a feminist movement - involving both European and Indian women - in the twentieth century. Last week we looked at Bhikkhu Analayo's understanding of sati or mindfulness as a good friend always available to us. This week, we come back to this with a personal reflection or contemplation practice for examining-- what do I do when seeking to be "mindful?" Right away from the moment of waking up in the morning our good friend sati can already be there, as if waiting for us. She is ready to accompany us throughout the rest of the day, encouraging us to stay receptive and soft, and open, soft and understanding. She never gets upset when we happen to forget about her. As soon as we remember her, she is right there to be with us again. -Bhikkhu Analayo, Satipatthana Meditation

This sharing draws from teachings of Andrew Olendzki's lovely short article, What's In A Word, Sati, from Tricycle and Bhikku Analayo's book, Satipatthana Meditation, both of which make clear that our usual understanding of the word mindfulness is inadequate for opening the true radical transformative potential inherent in the opening of a "mindful" mind. (Please excuse my misnaming of Bhikku Analayo as Ajahn Analayo in the talk. thanks!)

The krishna-ekadaśi (11th day of the waning moon) right before Phalahārinī Pūjā is known as the Apara-ekadaśi and it coincides with Bhadrakālī Jayanti, the celebration of Mā in her "auspicious" form. While the word "Bhadra" (which can be both a noun and an adjective) means something like "auspicious", "noble", "protectress" etc. we have to ask: what does that really mean? Is this a gentle (saumya) form of Kālī as contrasted with how She is usually depicted in Her smaśāna/ghora (cremation ground/fierce) form? Or do we just have to update our understanding of the word "auspicious" to include even those aspects of life that the mind rejects? In this talk, we read excerpts from Swami Vivekananda's Bengali poem to Kālĩ "And Let Shyāma Dance There" we we learn about the Worship of the Terrible and Mā's Non-Dual, All-Inclusive Form which will radically change the way we understand "auspicious"-ness in the context of spiritual life. Also, we tell some stories from the Puranas to make the case that Vīra-bhadra, in the well-known immolation of Sati/destrcution of Daksha's sacrifice story can be seen as synonymous with Bhadrakālī. Of course, I make a case as to why the latter, female version is better, theologically. This will help us understand why Mā in many of her sahasranāmas stotravalis (thousand names hymns) is called "Daksha-yajña-vināśinī", the one who destroys Daksha's sacrifice. May this be an offering to Her, the auspicious one, who destroys all false ideas and tears down all pretense!PS: here is a playlist (our signature series, our flagship course), all of our talks on Mā.Support the showLectures happen live every Monday at 7pm PST and Friday 10am PST and again Friday at 6pm PST.Use this link and I will see you there:https://www.zoom.us/j/7028380815For more videos, guided meditations and instruction and for access to our lecture library, visit me at:https://www.patreon.com/yogawithnishTo get in on the discussion and access various spiritual materials, join our Discord here: https://discord.gg/U8zKP8yMrM

In this next installment of our How To Do Tantrik Ritual series, we look at three very important moments in Tantrik ritual worship (namely, bhūta-śuddhi, nyāsa and gandhādi pūjā) that all serve to reinforce the idea of Advaita, non-duality in the context of worship. Over and over we affirm that the One being worshipped and the One worshipping as well as the very tools and items of the worship themselves are all One and the Same Reality: Consciousness-Bliss, Shiva. As such, we discuss how pūjā (ritual worship) and japa (mantra recitation) can act as powerful sādhanas (spiritual techniques) for truly realizing non-duality beyond mere intellectual concepts. We also talk a little bit about the importance of the sacred pilgrimage places known as śākta pīthas, and how these might be mapped unto the body in the process of nyāsa. Excitingly, we compare the rather similar mythological structures of the "Dismemberment of Osiris" episode in the Egyptian pantheon to the "Dismember of Sati" incident in the Purānas to make a point about sacred geography and the Immanence of God, following from last week's discussion on Nyāsa as a Sacred Pilgrimage Practice!A truly exciting discussion! Thank you all for coming! Jai Mā!Support the show
