Chaz and AJ wondered if a breast exam is worse that a "butt check," as both Chaz and his wife, Jennifer are due for their respective exams. In this two-episode examination of various ways religion and spirituality may impact people's practice of polyamory, Laura discusses the topic with guests from several different backgrounds to see how the processes of coming out as polyamorous, unpacking mono-normativity and purity culture, partner selection, and inhabiting the normative culture vary based on their early and ongoing religious experiences. In the first part, we hear from Purity to Polyamory, a podcaster/instagrammer/educator who is trying to create community for other ex-vangelicals, about her transition from 19-year-old bride in a purity culture to 30-something nonmonogamist. You can find her podcast, discord, and more here: https://campsite.bio/puritytopolyamory or follow her on Instagram @puritytopolyamory. We also have a conversation on the other end of the religious spectrum of experience, with Laura's metamour Daniel GreenWolf (friend of the show) - who was raised and remains Wiccan, or as he says in his show, is "a pansexual, polyamorous pagan." He discusses with us how being the latter in a largely Christian-flavored culture prepared him for coming out as polyamorous as an adult, and why his coven's leadership, and especially his mom, were and are great for supporting him in being a unique individual. You can find him at https://danielgreenwolf.com and https://celticmagicshow.com . And since we mention her in the show and she's awesome - Daniel's mom Judy sells super-cool crochet things at https://rhiannonshook.weebly.com. As always, the music for the show is by the lovely, talented Vince Conaway, who you can find at http://vinceconaway.com . You can find all the links to support Ready for Polyamory in all its forms (blog, podcast, book, social media, everything!) at the linktree: linktr.ee/readyforpolyamory , including the now launched-to-the-public non-monogamy coaching and peer support options, if you're so moved. We'd love to see you in the facebook group or interacting on the social media (@readyforpolyamory everywhere but twitter, where I'm @lauracb88); and we'll be back next week with Part 2 of this series. Special Guests: Daniel GreenWolf and Purity to Polyamory.
Performer Stories — Fascinating Stories from Top Entertainers
This week's storytellers are Broadway Actor/Singer Kimberly JaJuan, Magician, Ballonist, and Sideshow Performer Zia Quill Kay, Magician and Podcast Host Kayla Drescher, and Celtic Magician Daniel Greenwolf. All the stories in this episode have to do with nightmares unfolding at and during performances. Kimberly talks about missing an entrance cue, Zia tells about a gig that was raided by SWAT, Kayla talks about exiting an illusion too early, and Daniel talks about a fireworks stunt gone wrong. Kimberly JaJuan The first story is told by Kimberly JaJuan, a singer and actor both on and off Broadway. She's a graduate of The Eastman School and of Julliard School earning both Bachelor's and Masters Degrees. Some of her more notable (and favorite) roles have been Singing with Gloria Estefan and Harry Connick, Jr. at the Papal visit at Madison Square Garden, portraying the role of Sarah in RAGTIME on Broadway, and creating the role of Lisette alongside classmate Audra McDonald in MARIE CHRISTINE. Most recently she could have been seen bringing HERCULES to life with the Public Works at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. She's a long time member and manager of Broadway Inspirational Voices, a diverse, professional choir of broadway artists, united to change lives through the power of music and service. She's also a broadway investor debuting as an Associate Producer on productions like American Son, Ain't Too Proud, and Hadestown to name a few. Here she is talking about the time she missed her entrance cue during a live performance. Zia Quill Kay The second story is by Zia Quill Kay, a balloon artist, magician, clown, and sideshow performer. It't not like he had a choice though, with parents who are also in the performance industry as well. Here he is telling about his very first close up magic gig that got raided by SWAT. Kayla Drescher The third story is my magician and podcast host Kayle Drescher, that creates magic that you care about and can really connect with on a human level. Her magic has taken her all over the world for clients like Microsoft, IBM, and Wells Fargo, among others. She also tours the world with the traveling show, Champions of Magic alongside other fellow magi and is planning to hit the road again in October! You may have seen her on TV shows like Access Hollywood, NBC's Today Show, where she was crowned “The Next Great Magician” by David Copperfield, or on Penn & Teller's Fool Us where Teller literally fell in love with her magic. She's also the host of the SHEzam Podcast, a show that hopes to make itself obsolete, as it brings change in the magic community and other neighboring industries. The goal being to inspire these industries to be more inclusive to all...and it's working! Here she talking about the time she left the box early in a grand illusion performance during Champions of Magic. Here's where you can find out more about Kayla: Kayla's Website: http://magicinheels.com/ Champions of Magic Website: http://championsofmagic.co.uk/ SHEzam Podcast: http://shezampod.com/ Daniel Greenwolf The final story is told by Daniel Greenwolf, an Award-Winning Magician, Writer, Creator, & Slightly Mad Irishman. His show takes Highly Visual Magic, Theatrical Storytelling, Exhilarating Irish Music, Interactive Comedy, & Thrilling Danger and wraps it in a Celtic Theme that has been described as "A Witty, Modern-Day Celtic Viking. Kinda like James Joyce with a Broad Sword." For Five Years In A Row he was voted as one of the Top Five Solo Variety Acts in theUS by the Renaissance Festival Podcast & Renaissance Magazine. He's opened for World-Renowned Musician WENDY RULE, the CAST OF BEATLEMANIA, as well as International Celtic Rock Group ENTER THE HAGGIS You may have also seen him featured in the Film Documentary MAGIC CAMP and on AMC Network's DISPATCHES FROM ELSEWHERE starring Jason Segel and Sally Field. Here's Daniel telling about how him and a friend became human fireworks. Don't try this one at home. They're professionals? "Isn't that cat toes?" Today, in the second half of their conversation, our heroes from last week continue on their epic Quest For Answers About Coming Out. ...Wait, wrong genre. They do have a nice conversation including a bunch of strategies for how to handle situations where folks have negative or shocked reactions to information on polyamory, as well as some funny stories about people getting things Very Wrong because the monogamous programming is strong with them. (that's where the cat's toes come in.) Regardless of whether you come out often, once, or not yet, these two podcast episodes taken together have good information for you. As always, you can click the guest bios below for detailed information on my guests, but for those of you not using my podcast host to listen: - Daniel GreenWolf is an Award-winning Magician, writer, creator, & slightly mad Irishman who you can find at www.danielgreenwolf.com . He's also a pagan, pansexual polyamorist who's been in his longest running polyamorous relationship for seven years, and he's an outspoken advocate for polyamory as well as an amazing performer. - Corwin is the owner and operator of Upline Studios who you can find at uplinestudio.com . He's been in ethically nonmonogamous relationships for eight years. - Seva has been polyamorous for seven years. She is an educator in the non-monogamy and rope communities and helped build the Upline Studio. - Jami and Brian Zapata are poly-pagans who've been out all closets for a long time. Brian's a hetero software QA release manager, Jami is a pansexual, non-binary, gender-non-conforming Fire official. They enjoy Renaissance Faires, Dungeons and Dragons, and can't wait to socialize with their friends again. "Did we really need to know this? We knew you were weird." On today's episode, the first half of a really great roundtable discussion on coming out between my metamour Daniel GreenWolf and a group of my friends, Seva, Corwin, Jami, and Brian, moderated by your stalwart host. We try to show a variety of experiences with the process of coming out as polyamorous, altered by sexual orientation, family reaction, age we came out, and other circumstances through our conversation. ...Of course, we're a bunch of chatterboxes who are all friends so we talked for about three hours, so I cut that down to about two and cut that in half to give you two digestible episodes. This first half is who did our panel come out to first (and how, and why), and what reactions they all got. (SPOILER: the tagline is part of one reaction.) l hope that this episode helps people who have come out and it didn't go especially well, or who haven't come out yet because they're worried, see that the odds of it going well aren't terribly bad even if they aren't perfect. (and if it goes badly, we have your back next week - we talk all about controlling the message and managing reactions and conversations with someone who isn't understanding or positive in response.) As always, you can click the guest bios below for detailed information on my guests, but for those of you not using my podcast host to listen: - Daniel GreenWolf is an Award-winning Magician, writer, creator, & slightly mad Irishman who you can find at www.danielgreenwolf.com . Raylene Taskoski talks to Daniel Greenwolf, a Celtic magician, podcaster, poly guy, queer advocate, and kilt wearing ginger. We talk about Covid and how it affected his business, how his relationship with his husband and wife started, their individual other partners, testing, and more. I get really nosy. LOL Daniel GreenWolf has been a Professional Magician for over 20 years. He's appeared on AMC's "Dispatches From Elsewhere", in the award winning Documentary "Magic Camp", and has performed at Faires and Festivals across the United States. He's also been the Co-Owner of the Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire out of Ansonia, CT for ten years, which brings together 150 volunteers, 20 professional acts, a dozen food vendors, and over 60 Artisan vendors from all over the World for a 3 Weekend Summer Festival. He also wears a kilt and talks about Irish stuff in his show to an uncomfortable extent.
Join the conversation in our Facebook group: Confident, Connected, and Influential we rarely get to focus on a single thing and drive it to completion in out busy, bustling, distracted lives. Yesterday, I participated in the 100 Kata Challenge. It's just like it sounds. We get together as a dojo at Mystic Dojo - Yamashita International Karate and all did 100 kata. We do kata all the time, but what made this special was that we had set a specific, measurable goal and that the goal could be achieved by iteration. My friend Daniel GreenWolf shared a concept of #CanYouCount along these same lines. That you can achieve anything if you can break it down into repeatable steps. What made this event so great was that for four hours we were focused on one thing. No Facebook. No email. No phone calls. Just kata and company of others doing the same thing. We are not built to multitask. It causes anxiety. It is why so many of us feel so much stress. Where you can find an opportunity to fully engage into an activity, set a goal and hit it? www.guywhoknowsaguy.com
Today's guests are my metamours Daniel Greenwolf and Vanessa/Bella Greenwolf, discussing the relationship spectrum of parallel to kitchen table polyamory, how relationship definitions get slippery, why they think that makes them kind of useless for most people, and why the semantics are, in my opinion, kind of important anyway, because both agreeing you're "kitchen table polyamorous" and meaning two different things can cause huge problems down the line. In a polycule like ours, where things are kind of organically shifting and part kitchen table part parallel anyway (see this (https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/kitchen-table-to-parallel-polyamory-part-5-the-polycule-with-a-little-of-everything) post from way back when everyone wanted me using pseudonyms for more information) that's less important, but for some folks it really matters. You can find more information from my blog under the Relationship Spectrum (https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/home/categories/relationship-spectrum) tag, and as always I'm on Patreon (www.Patreon.com/readyforpolyamory) and ko-fi (www.ko-fi.com/readyforpolyamory). Laura and her friend Olivia discuss Ambiamory, the ability to go between polyamory and monogamy as a matter of choice rather than orientation. (Giving full credit where credit is due, the term seems to have been coined by Page Turner of Poly.Land) Olivia is not out in all aspects of her life and all her projects as ambiamorous and pansexual, and so she isn't sharing her project links, but would love it if you donated to Planned Parenthood (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/get-involved/other-ways-give). My wonderful metamour Daniel Greenwolf provided a small statement on why Polyamory is an orientation for him and you can find links to all his projects and social media in his guest page below. As always, the blog is at www.readyforpolyamory.com and updates Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Jealousy is a very human emoition, and one that doesn't go away just because you decide that you're polyamorous. This week, we examine it, reasons one might feel it, and ways to cope with it, in two conversations with an old friend and a metamour of mine, both polyamorous for between 6 and 7 years. On the blog (www.readyforpolyamory.com), you can find resources on jealousy under the "Jealousy" post tag, or a start in the "But Don't You Get Jealous?" entry under Start Here. Seva's current project is helping build Upline Rope studio which can be found at https://uplinestudio.com. Vanessa/Bella Greenwolf, as head wrangler of Daniel GreenWolf, can be found at www.DanielGreenWolf.com, www.greenwolfcast.libsyn.com, and facebook.com/bellagreenwolfmagic. The intro and outro music as always is provided by Vince Conaway who can be found at www.vinceconaway.com The Ready For Polyamory Patreon (patreon.com/readyforpolyamory) and Ko-fi (ko-fi.com/readyforpolyamory) are there and I'd really appreciate your support to keep the lights on on the blog and podcast; the blog is up every Monday/Wednesday/Friday, and the podcast every Saturday. Special Guests: Seva and Vanessa "Bella GreenWolf".
Polyamorous triads are an occasionally contentious topic within the community because they're many people's entry point in but often also challenging - and, as people's entry point, much like high school sweethearts, it often doesn't work out, but for a select few it does. Today's guest is one of those select few. Daniel GreenWolf joins Laura Boyle for a discussion of triad relationships, their challenges, their positives, and how he's landed in two of them at once without meaning to. You can find more information on this topic in the blog post “New Triads: Relationships on Hardmode,” from May 6. Daniel can be found at www.DanielGreenWolf.com, www.Greenwolfcast.libsyn.com and facebook.com/GreenWolfCast, as well as on essentially all social media as Daniel GreenWolf. Intro and outro music is provided by the lovely Vince Conaway, who can be found at www.vinceconaway.com As always, the blog is at www.readyforpolyamory.com, updating Monday/Wednesday/Friday, and we're back next Saturday with another podcast, this one discussing jealousy.
