Once Lucumo son of the Corinthian exile Demaratus, Lucius Tarquinius decides that he wants more from life than being a rich Roman Senator, commander and trusted friend of the king- and his wife Tanaquil has the same idea. When Ancus Marcius dies and his sons are still underage, I'm sure Tarquinius can be trusted to be completely honest and above board. The earth is burning, Britain is parched brown and rain is a distant memory. Yet the Tories are purging the last of their Net Zero advocates, the Greens seem to have lost interest in green policies, and Burnham's Labour are teetering on the edge of reopening oil and gas in the North Sea. Saving the planet is just so expensive! What will it take to get British politicians to take the climate emergency seriously?   Plus, will the real Kemi Badenoch please sit down? The current and quite possibly final leader of the Conservative Party stood by convicted neo-Nazi Joshua Bonehill-Paine as a local council candidate (he withdraws right in the middle of this recording). So how come the commentariat is convinced of the “Keminaissance”?  ESCAPE ROUTES: • Zoë has been reading Slags by Emma Jane Unsworth.  • Seth has been to Bayreuth for the Festival (hurry, it's still on). • Ros got a preview copy of Deep Into The Sixties: Britain 1965–66 by David Kynaston • Rachel has been reading Pagans by James Alistair Henry.  1 And after these things the Lord appointed also other seventy-two: and he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come.Post haec autem designavit Dominus et alios septuaginta duos : et misit illos binos ante faciem suam in omnem civitatem et locum, quo erat ipse venturus. 2 And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send labourers into his harvest.Et dicebat illis : Messis quidem multa, operarii autem pauci. Rogate ergo dominum messis ut mittat operarios in messem suam. 3 Go: Behold I send you as lambs among wolves.Ite : ecce ego mitto vos sicut agnos inter lupos. 4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes; and salute no man by the way.Nolite portare sacculum, neque peram, neque calceamenta, et neminem per viam salutaveritis. 5 Into whatsoever house you enter, first say: Peace be to this house. In quamcumque domum intraveritis, primum dicite : Pax huic domui : 6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you.et si ibi fuerit filius pacis, requiescet super illum pax vestra : sin autem, ad vos revertetur. 7 And in the same house, remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house. In eadem autem domo manete, edentes et bibentes quae apud illos sunt : dignus est enim operarius mercede sua. Nolite transire de domo in domum. 8 And into what city soever you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.Et in quamcumque civitatem intraveritis, et susceperint vos, manducate quae apponuntur vobis : 9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them: The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.et curate infirmos, qui in illa sunt, et dicite illis : Appropinquavit in vos regnum Dei.Ignatius, courtier and knight, was wounded at the siege of Pamplona. During his long convalescence the reading of the lives of the Saints revealed to him that the Church militant needed an army of glorious soldiers to fight the forces combined against it: Pagans, Mohammedans, Protestants, etc. He founded the Society of Jesus and as first General of this new spiritual chivalry he moved to the attack under the motto: "Ad majorem Dei gloriam-To the greater glory of God!" He died with the Holy Name of Jesus on his lips A.D. 1556.

Sometimes a Pagan community begins with a formal plan, a sacred vision, and a carefully chosen meeting place. Other times, it begins with someone posting on Reddit and asking, “Hey, are there any Pagans around here?”In this episode, Laylla and Chelle sit down with Shannon Bronico Hodges, whose search for local Pagan community in Corning, New York helped spark the creation of Crystal City Circle. Laylla answered the post, the two connected, and before long they were figuring out how to turn a handful of interested strangers into a real, growing community. They talk about those early conversations, meeting new people from the internet, the excitement of realizing you are not the only witch in town, and the lessons they have learned while building Crystal City Circle from the ground up. From finding meeting spaces and welcoming new members to sharing responsibilities, handling growing pains, and creating a group that feels inclusive and sustainable.Shannon also shares advice for anyone who feels isolated in their practice or keeps wishing someone else would start a local group. Sometimes the first step is not having all the answers. Sometimes it is simply raising your hand, putting out the call, and seeing who answers.Got a question? Full Text of Readings Monday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 395 The Saint of the day is Saint Apollinaris Saint Apollinaris' Story According to tradition, Saint Peter sent Saint Apollinaris to Ravenna, Italy, as its first bishop. His preaching of the Good News was so successful that the pagans there beat him and drove him from the city. He returned, however, and was exiled a second time. After preaching in the area surrounding Ravenna, he entered the city again. After being cruelly tortured, he was put on a ship heading to Greece. Pagans there caused him to be expelled to Italy, where he went to Ravenna for a fourth time. He died from wounds received during a savage beating at Classis, a suburb of Ravenna. A beautiful basilica honoring him was built there in the sixth century. Reflection Following Jesus involves risks—sometimes the supreme risk of life itself. Martyrs are people who would rather accept the risk of death than deny the cornerstone of their whole life: faith in Jesus Christ. Everyone will die eventually—the persecutors and those persecuted. The question is what kind of a conscience people will bring before the Lord for judgment. Remembering the witness of past and present martyrs can help us make the often small sacrifices that following Jesus today may require.Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

In this episode, Laylla and Chelle sit down with Beck Ravenswood, owner of The Serpent's Key Shoppe & Sanctuary in Hanover, Pennsylvania, before their July 22nd court hearing in the fight against Pennsylvania's old fortune-telling law.Yep, in Pennsylvania, a law dating back to 1861 still makes paid fortune telling, including tarot reading, a criminal offense. Beck's case began after Hanover police visited their shop and warned them that offering tarot readings for money could lead to legal trouble. Now Beck is challenging that law in federal court, arguing that tarot reading is protected speech, spiritual practice, and a legitimate livelihood, not something that belongs under threat of arrest in the year 2026.We talk with Beck about what happened, why this law matters beyond one shop in Hanover, and how outdated laws can still be used to target witches, readers, and spiritual workers. We also discuss Pennsylvania House Bill 1562, introduced by Rep. Greg Scott, which would repeal Title 18 Section 7104 and remove the state's fortune-telling ban from the books. If you want to support the effort, contact Rep. Morgan has also presented papers on fairies and on fairies and witches at several university conferences. About The book: How to deal with the spirits who Hunt the skies. This book is an introduction to the Wild Hunt, the group of spirits which hunt the sky, heralded by the baying of hounds and the sound of horses' hooves in the air. With stories from across Europe and its history, the Wild Hunt is as intriguing today as it's ever been, and many modern pagans are drawn to learn about it and even interact with it. Here you will explore the history of the Wild Hunt and similar groups of spirits from Europe to the US, looking at who may lead the Hunt and what its wider purpose might be. ANGELA'S SYMPOSIUM 📖 Academic Study on Witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, magick and the Occult

Is Litha really an ancient Pagan festival, or is its history far more fascinating? In this episode, Dr Angela Puca explores the true history of Litha, the Summer Solstice, and Midsummer, separating historical evidence from modern Pagan myth-making. We look at Stonehenge, Bede, St John's Eve, midsummer bonfires, folk magic, Wicca, and the creation of the modern Wheel of the Year.Rather than asking whether Litha is “real” or “fake,” this video reveals how contemporary Pagans transform ancient solar symbolism, European folklore, and modern ritual creativity into a meaningful seasonal celebration.Perfect for Pagans, witches, Wiccans, folklore lovers, and anyone interested in the history of magic, ritual, and the Summer Solstice.CONNECT & SUPPORT

Hell is murky. Today we enter limbo, which is technically the least painful section of hell but actually leaves me with some of the toughest questions in the poem. What does Dante make--what do Christians in general make--of all the noble, wise, and humane people who apparently lived outside the reach of Christ? Were they outside His reach? Are human virtues enough to save us? If so, why aren't we doing better?? Dante, in his characteristic way, rachets these questions up to 11 and then moves through them subtly, confoundingly, and above all, beautifully. His poetry leads us to contemplate what it might look like for God's justice and God's mercy to become one. A couple of weeks ago, we looked at the practices of ancient and medieval Celts, and how those practices were transformed and integrated into Christianity over time. Today, we're shifting the lens eastward to investigate some of the last Europeans to accept Christianity. What did these people believe before the missionaries arrived? And how did their pre-Christian beliefs shape their eventual practice of Christianity, itself? This week, Danièle speaks with Francis Young about who the last pagan holdouts on the continent were, why Christian missionaries struggled to convert these regions, and how pagan traditions were integrated into this new faith. This podcast is made possible by the generous support of listeners like you! THE OLD GODS are asserting themselves and their followers are trying to fulfill the demands of their patron deities. Surprisingly, you wouldn't recognize a pagan if you bumped into one at the local dollar store. They are your friends, coworkers, and even family members. There is nothing to mark them as a practitioner of Wicca, worshiper of Odin, or ceremonial magician. Carl Teichrib, author of the highly recommended Game of Gods, has spent decades, attending meetings, and gatherings of the followers of the left hand path. He tells us that not only are these people respected members of our community, a surprisingly large number of them were formally deeply involved in Christian churches—which they left because they had questions and needs that went unanswered.

Hi, Neighbor! Help us create a wedding gift for a listener who's getting married soon... (Blessings, Eli and Bronte!) THEN: John wrote about public school teachers AND women who file for frivolous divorce, so it has been a busy week of fielding comments (and emails!) from nutty feminists and Christian-identifying-Pagans. We have been laughing a lot, because comedy is all about taking two seemingly random ideas and jamming them together in a surprising way. Let us tell you: Feminists sure are good at connecting random dots into outrage! -Examining Moscow facebook page, not only makes false claims of sexual assault against minor children and shares their pictures online--but also will stalk a parent and use information about their children in a lame attempt to justify "protecting" people from Doug Wilson. (The loose connection between my kids' school and Doug Wilson is comedy gold!) -"G" or "Pretty Face" showed up to talk about why the church needs to be educated about how to spot abusive people, and the Peaches agreed! But Pretty Face didn't want to talk about how to spot and deal with abusive women. Then she started using the word "Sweetie" and the mask was off. (But, boy, what a beautiful face she had under there!) -Heather showed up just when John and the Peaches were brainstorming an excellent new marketing strategy for converting JOHN'S pretty face into cash, and Heather wrote "Oh, you have five kids, huh? I'll be sure to tell the local authorities when they do a welfare check..." She commented in several other places as well, ranting about dangerous Christians being abusive. And THEN she posted a picture of somebody's newborn granddaughter and asked "What are you going to do when she gets married and is BEATEN TO A BLOODY PULP?" I'm telling you, it has been a busy week of unhinged women, who want the church to know how to deal with abuse situations and will be genuinely surprised when it comes back to haunt them. And that was BEFORE we got an email from "a woman" who "started a nonprofit for her daughter" and hopes that we burn in hell eternally. An informed and educated church that handles abuse properly will not tolerate any of these antisocial behaviors from people who claim to represent Christ. Love them, but do not reward their temper fits.

Today's guest, John Kuhn, is the author of Making Pagans: Theatrical Practice and Comparative Religion in Early Modern England (U Pennsylvania Press, 2024). Making Pagans argues that drama played a powerful role in the articulation of religious difference in the seventeenth century. Examining the common scenes of pagan ritual that filled England's seventeenth-century stages—magical conjurations, oracular prophecies, barbaric triumphal parades, and group suicides—Kuhn traces these tropes across dozens of plays, from a range of authors including Ben Jonson, Christopher Marlowe, John Dryden, and Philip Massinger. Tracing connections between the history of stagecraft and ethnological disciplines such as ethnography, antiquarianism, and early comparative religious writing, Kuhn shows how early modern repertory systems that leaned heavily on thrift and reuse produced an enduring theatrical vocabulary for understanding religious difference through the representation of paganism—a key term in the new taxonomy of world religions emerging at this time, and a frequent subject and motif in English drama of the era.Drawing together theater history, Atlantic studies, and the history of comparative religion, Making Pagans reconceptualizes the material and iterative practices of the theater as central to the construction of radical religious difference in early modernity and of the category of paganism as a tool of European self-definition and colonial ambition. Today on Black Dragon Biker TVSegment 1: Pagans Member Admits Role in Assault of Rival Gang Members at West Norriton WawaOn March 23, 2026, Jason William Lawless, 46, a patched member of the Pagans Outlaw Motorcycle Gang from Bridgeport, PA, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Court to simple assault and conspiracy to commit simple assault. This stems from the October 17, 2025, incident in the parking lot of the Wawa at 2544 West Main Street in West Norriton Township. Lawless and eight other Pagans allegedly rolled up on two members of the rival Unknown Bikers Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, surrounded them, and tried to rip off their colors. The confrontation turned into a shootout — six people were shot, including two innocent bystanders (one took a round to the face while putting air in his tires). Fourteen shell casings were recovered.Lawless is the first of the nine charged Pagans to take a plea. The rest are still facing serious felony charges including aggravated assault, riot, and recklessly endangering other persons. Classic colors dispute that went south fast and dragged civilians into it.Segment 2: SVR's Shadow Looms Over Founder of Night Wolves Biker Gang's Trip to ChinaFresh intelligence report dropped today: Alexander Zaldostanov (aka “The Surgeon” / Khirurg), longtime president and founder of Russia's Night Wolves Motorcycle Club, visited Fudan University in Shanghai in late February 2026. He spoke to Chinese students. What makes it interesting — he wasn't traveling light. He was accompanied by two individuals with known ties to Russia's SVR (Foreign Intelligence Service). The Night Wolves have long been viewed as a Kremlin soft-power/propaganda arm — they helped in Crimea in 2014, do the big “Roads of Victory” runs, and Zaldostanov has been tight with Putin for years. This China trip looks like another layer: using the club for influence work and plausible-deniability outreach while Russia and China keep tightening their strategic partnership. When outlaw-style clubs start moving with intelligence officers on foreign soil, it's no longer just about bikes and brotherhood.Segment 3: Ohio Queer Motorcycle Club Responds to Anti-LGBTQ+ Laws by Teaching How to Fire GunsIn Ohio, the Cleveland chapter of Queers on Gears (an LGBTQ+ motorcycle club) has been quietly running firearm training days. They hold classes in a barn on a family farm in Elyria, with transgender instructors teaching safe gun handling to queer students. The club says the rise in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and rhetoric in Ohio pushed them to create a safe space for community self-defense training. They frame it as a natural fit with motorcycle culture's overlap with firearms. Spent casings on the floor, smiles on faces, and people learning the basics. This one sits at the intersection of identity, politics, and Second Amendment rights — something we don't see every day in the biker world.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-dragon-s-lair-motorcycle-chaos--3267493/support.Sponsor the channel by signing up for our channel memberships. Luxa https://linktr.ee/LuxaStrata welcomes Micheal M Hughes  https://www.michaelmhughes.com/, author of Magic for the Resistance: Rituals & Spells for Change to discuss magic in the media and the response from the right to his viral 2017 Binding Spell. How does the right wing grift play out in occult spaces? And why should we worry about what people in the news media and elsewhere are saying about magical practitioners? Luxa also shares an update about The Green Mushroom Project https://greenmushroomproject.com/ and Void House- creating consent centered magical spaces for conducting group work both in person and online, investigating the magical and alchemical properties of consent, and providing consent education to magically inclined people. Thanks for listening to the Lux Occult Podcast!
