Vince Conaway shares his top 3 places to see in Italy along with some travel tips, and stories of busking in Italy. Music from Vince Conaway, Brobdingnagian Bards, and Ironwood. And if you're going to apologize, make it a good one. That's what I did when I wrote the song “The Bridge” as an apology. It's all part of a new series where I talk about my album Soul of a Harper. This is Pub Songs & Stories #285 0:30 - Marc Gunn “Killiecrankie” from Soul of Harper Inspired by the band Schiehallion out of Scotland about the Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689. The first three verses and chorus were written by Robert Burns in 1789. 3:47 - WELCOME TO PUB SONGS & STORIES I am Marc Gunn. I'm a Sci F' Irish musician and podcaster living in Atlanta, Georgia. If you're new to the show, please subscribe. You can do that PubSong.com or Just send me an email to follow@celtfather. Poll: What's your favorite song on Soul of a Harper? Merch: Buy Soul of a Harper on Patreon CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS Every year, I lead a small group of people on an exciting adventure, usually to one of the Celtic nations, but not always. 7:04 - Ironwood "She Likes the Guinness" from Gretna Green 10:55 - STORY OF  SOUL OF A HARPER On back: “May your boots be well-worn and your soul, well-wandered” An autoharper's spiritual wandering through Celtic songs Cover photo by Nancy Pearsall Award-winning Graphic design by Marc Gunn Why did I record the album? Album title inspired by a song by Rie Sheridan Rose 20:24 - Brobdingnagian Bards “Soul of a Harper” from Brobdingnagian Fairy Tales 23:52 - THE STORY OF THE BRIDGE Originally recorded for Brobdingnagian Bards' CD, Gullible's Travels. Also released on A Celtic Renaissance Wedding Was it written as an apology at Pease Park near UT Austin Instrumental part in 4th verse 29:35 - Marc Gunn “The Bridge” from Soul of Harper The Bridge Lyrics by Marc Gunn Was it something I said that made you angry with me. Made you dig a deep river to keep you from me. Oh, the water is rushing, come to sweep me away 'Less I die of sorrow, I will cross it today. I would build me a bridge a hundred meters long To see the other side of what I did wrong Well you say you don't hate me, but I guess that I'm scared That with a river between us, you'll no longer care. I would build a boat, and paddle agaist all sorrow. And if I sail down the river, then I'll be back again tomorrow. I would face cold death, run and leap to your side. And if I fall in the river, I'll be warmed by your sight. I would beg your forgiveness for the pain I've fed And I'd find the source of the river you've bled. Then I'd close the gates of the dam I built there. And never again will you have anything to fear. Well I never knew that your tears ran so deep. But when I'ved dammed those tears, I will kiss your sweet cheek. I will hold you close 'till your tears finally cease. And I'll sing you a lullaby to bring you peace. 33:21 - SUPPORT THE CLUB The show is brought to you by my supporters on Patreon. If you enjoy this podcast or my music, please join the Club. He plays hammered dulcimer, is an incredible busker, and every year, he goes to exotic locations in abroad to play music in the streets and to become a part of the culture of the region. Having had years of Celtic Invasion Vacations where we sort of do the same, his story is dear to my heart. From Florence to Machu Pichu, Austria to Croatia, plus the Renaissance festivals he does the rest of the year, Vince has been all over. He even can explain what the dulcimer is in those various languages, which is just too cool. Vince will share his favorite memories and best travel tips. You can find him and his travel blog and photos at vinceconaway.com and he's also on Patreon. 50:51 - CLOSING – BEST TRAVEL TIPS 51:24 - Vince Conaway “Goblin Parade” from Musica Instrumentalis 54:16 - CREDITS Thanks for listening to Pub Songs & Stories. "Sometimes a particular adult's involvement ebbs and flows but there isn't the kind of sudden disappearance or 'revolving door' that serial monogamists imagine with polyamorous dating because we've built a lot of community." "We were really anxious about coming out to the kids, and did, and asked if they had questions, and one of them, very in character for him, said 'Yes - can I have another hamburger?'" "You have to take the space to take care of yourself and notice if you haven't made space for yourself outside of parenthood in a long time - because making space for your non-parent identity is important." "Why would we stop doing the things that make us happy and make us better as humans if we're trying to raise good people, a task that means we need to show up as our best selves?" To open season 5 of the podcast, Laura and Jessica Levity Daylover of Remodeled Love sit down to talk about being polyamorous parents of young children - the benefits of having multiple partners to help with these phases, the realities of occasional judgement from the monogamous folks in our lives, difficulties of scheduling and Jes's Time-banking system with her husband, some of Laura's experiences being out to school, doctors, etc, as well as hopes for our families's futures. Later this season, there will be an episode with guests with teenaged kids talking about those different stages and the unique challenges therein. Jessica Levity Daylover is a mom of two who has been with her husband, Joe, since 2009, and married and polyamorous since 2013. Jessica is a live event and digital media producer and entertainer. Their journey into polyamory was rocky because they had no mentors, no cultural script, and no support. They launched their podcast & platform "Remodeled" as a way to change that path for others. Jes and Remodeled Love are on all the social media - you can find her on IG @remodeledlove, on TikTok @homesliceproductions, on Twitter @RemodeledLove, on Patreon at www.patreon.com/homesliceproductions, or find her podcast, peer support, and upcoming projects at www.remodeledlove.com. My only criticism is you weren't around in the late 80s when I fell in love with this genre of music and records were as rare as unicorns. I like to write fantasy books while listening. The music helps keep me in the mindset while covering up the sounds of the modern world. Once again, thank you so much for all you do. Sincerely," Fabio Fiorelli emailed: "Hi Mark! It seems I already talked about “Loch Lomond” in show #199. So instead… I fly to Texas in April to perform at Sherwood Forest Faire. My daughters are making the journey as well. It got me thinking about when I first started flying. I don't remember. I was talking to my dad about it. He reminded me that during summers when we lived in Maryland, he would drive us to visit his family in East Texas. His parents would then drive us halfway to meet my mom's parents. We'd stay in San Antonio for a while. Then we would fly home. It was me and my brother. On an airplane together. Fast forward to 1985, the two of us flew to Italy to visit my mom. In 1989, I flew all by myself for the first time to visit my mom in Italy. Talking to my dad, I realized my love of traveling began in part because of those trips. Especially on the airplane. Visiting Europe! It made a HUGE impact on my life. I flew to Hawaii to visit my dad and step mom during college. The next vacation, I flew back to Italy. We drove up to Germany, France, and even saw the Floriade in The Netherlands. I love traveling. So it was fitting when I met my future wife in 2009, that she too had a love of traveling. We love to roam. However, it wasn't until 2013 or 2014 that I finally wrote my first good love song for my wife. I had written others. But they never went anywhere. The song was called “Wherever I May Roam”. I remember it was fairly easy to write too. The music I based on how I had been playing “Gypsy Rover”. It had a very pleasant rhythm that I tightened up. One of my big goals was to write a song that was a call and response. That is to say, something that I could sing and audience members could respond to the lyric I sang. But it's the story that made it a love song. It was created in 3 parts. The first was my life before I met Gwen. My life was a bit rough before her. I was in a band. But I did not feel like I was growing as a musician or as a person. I was also wanting to find love. I had to make a change. So I broke up the band. I moved from Austin to New Orleans. I tried to start over. I learned in high school that every new year, I could sort of change my persona to be more like someone I wanted to be. Rather than who I was. But it required a radical shift. Ultimately, I learned that I couldn't change who I actually was. But I did learn that the radical shift could do wonders for your life. The break up of the Brobdingnagian Bards was sad for many of our fans. But the move to New Orleans… it kickstarted my new life. I started writing new music. I recorded a ton of new albums. It launched Celtic Invasion Vacations. It also got me out on tour. At a little house concert in Reston, Virginia, I met my wife. That's what the second verse is all about. The final verse… Sometimes when you're a musician in a band, you start playing music together, just music. A groove catches on. Groove seems like the wrong word. Because it's not about rhythm, it's about playing in sync, together. It just matches. It works. As a budding singer and songwriter, I wanted something that was more than just a groove. I wanted a song. A beautiful song… that leads to other songs. That's what “Wherever I May Roam” did. I wrote my first love song for my wife. It told our story. But it also blossomed into children and more adventures than I could have possibly hoped for. And likewise, this song also was the true start of my rhythm and folk musical style on the autoharp. The thumb lead, as they said at the California Autoharp Gathering. 39:03 - Marc Gunn “Wherever I May Roam” from Selcouth 42:01 - NEXT TIME - We're talking about Kilty Pleasure and we have a story from The Muckers. Busking is like a fine art. When I went solo at the end of 2008, I was determined to better understand it. I asked several Renaissance festival performers for help and suggestions. I interviewed Vince Conaway. I'm gonna share that interview today on Celtfather Unkilted #289. I was trying to figure out how to share his interview I did with Vince Conaway years ago. I finally decided I should just post it on a podcast. It might not be super relevant to most of my fans. But it is a sneak peak behind what it's like to be a musician. I hope you enjoyed that interview. I sure did. I learned a lot from it, even if I don't feel like I've mastered the art. It's a great starting point for any musician who wants to master the art of busking. I always thought it was, and still is, a great insight into making a living with music. I don't know how long Vince Conaway has made a living with music. But he does a great job, and it's not easy to do. That's why he still sells CDs and also why he has a Patreon page. He talks about how amazing Patreon has helped him over the years, especially since the pandemic closed down his livelihood. Now he is once again in Europe, sharing his music in the streets, and making special videos from around the world for all of his patrons, all so he can keep making music. If you'd like to find out more about Vince Conaway, visit his website at VinceConaway.com If you enjoyed this show, you can also support my music and podcasting by joining the Gunn Runners Club on my Patreon page. In this episode, Laura examines the cultural reality of couple's privilege - the ways in which pair-bonding is encouraged and rewarded in our mono-normative culture - and the ways that folks sometimes unthinkingly or out of additional cultural conditioning work to uphold that privilege by enforcing hierarchies and prioritizing relationships over the needs of individuals. This episode looks at which parts of that are avoidable or mitigatable in our present society, which parts need "working around," and offers some options for folks who choose to stay within largely couple-based and hierarchical frameworks as well as those who prefer to explode those frameworks in their relational choices. In this examination of various ways religion and spirituality may impact people's practice of polyamory, Laura discusses the topic with guests from several different backgrounds to see how the processes of coming out as polyamorous, unpacking mono-normativity and purity culture, partner selection, and inhabiting the normative culture vary based on their early and ongoing religious experiences. In part 2, Laura converses with a person of devout Christian belief who explains how he holds his polyamory to be compatible theologically but not always logistically with his faith & everyday life as an active member of his church. In the first part, we hear from Purity to Polyamory, a podcaster/instagrammer/educator who is trying to create community for other ex-vangelicals, about her transition from 19-year-old bride in a purity culture to 30-something nonmonogamist. You can find her podcast, discord, and more here: https://campsite.bio/puritytopolyamory or follow her on Instagram @puritytopolyamory. We also have a conversation on the other end of the religious spectrum of experience, with Laura's metamour Daniel GreenWolf (friend of the show) - who was raised and remains Wiccan, or as he says in his show, is "a pansexual, polyamorous pagan." He discusses with us how being the latter in a largely Christian-flavored culture prepared him for coming out as polyamorous as an adult, and why his coven's leadership, and especially his mom, were and are great for supporting him in being a unique individual. You can find him at https://danielgreenwolf.com and https://celticmagicshow.com . Today's episode is a discussion of when saying "no" is healthier for us as people, especially in interpersonal relationships, and why we generally are conditioned to say "yes" anyway. We cover: * Reasons it's hard to say no. * Signs we may need to be saying 'yes' less often in particular relationships * How this applies to polyamory in particular * How this applies to relationships and sexual situations * How to stop owning others' emotional and physical "stuff" and focus on our own through "no" and its substitutes * How ask v. guess culture may play into our ability to receive no in a way that makes others feel safe to tell us no within relationships * Why being a safe person to tell no is a goal we should strive for in relationships, romantic and otherwise. Resources: My favorite reminder to guard my yes, the article by René Brooks that gave me that concise phrase for the idea: https://blackgirllostkeys.com/adhd/how-to-guard-your-yes/ . She meant it for ADHD folks to keep us from going off the deep end of overcommitment to activities, but it applies equally to polyamorous folks who want to be there for every moment of every partner's life and need. "Pear...Fruit...technology...devices!" There were some live video technical difficulties during this livestreamed episode (in video! too!) so I'm releasing the audio now and fixing the video up after some more coffee (it's too early Saturday morning) so there was a little bit of my very android partner cursing all my fruit based technology but not wanting to get me in trouble with one of the biggest podcast hosts. It was adorable. It is our podcastiversary! Last year, S1 E1 of the Ready For Polyamory Podcast released. So we did a kind of silly laugh along retrospective to celebrate. To more seriously answer some of the questions about favorite episodes (and get down the answer about episodes I think are most important that got cut off mid-ramble because...well... technical difficulties and I ramble: My favorite episodes to record were: S1E5 (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/compersion) on Compersion S1E6 (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/polymarriedanddating) and S2E5 (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/pmd2) tearing apart trashy tv with Corwin S1E11 (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/media) on media portrayal of polyamory (Where, contrary to his assertions, Ken tries to correct me in public) S2E7 & (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/comingout) 8, the coming out episodes (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/comingout2) S3E1 (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/disability) talking about Disability&Polyamory with Rachael Rose and S3E3 (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/processemotion) talking about emotional processing with Orphne and the episodes I think came out the best and do the clearest job of sharing really important information are: S1E1: Polyamory 101 (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/poly101) (which is a re-record but now has the info AND sounds great) S1E3: Triads (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/triads) S2E4: Off Escalator Relationships (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/escalator) S2E7 &8: Coming Out Part 1 (readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/comingout) and 2 (I'm especially partial to part 2 (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/comingout2), but that whole conversation was great and came out how it was supposed to, and both at once is very rare) S3E3: Emotional Processing (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/processemotion) S3E5: FWB and Play Partners (https://readyforpolyamory.fireside.fm/raapplied) didn't come out just how I want but is a really good jumping off point to start talking about the topic, which I think is an important one. Jealousy is presented as the mind-killer in polyamory a lot of the time, but it's a presentation of all kinds of other emotions and dealing in a practical way with some of those underlying causes is going to be the best way to get through or past it. While everyone's individual expressions of jealousy will be unique and include their own personal blend of different issues that need to be explored, there are a few strategies that are broadly applicable or transferrable. We look at those in today's episode - strategies for communication before and after activities that are giving you a bit of a jealous or envious wobble; techniques for self awareness or distraction and focus elsewhere during events that are bothering you; reframing techniques for thoughts about missing events to allow partners to attend them; how to build a toolbox of skills you can turn to so the jealous or envious 'freakout' is shorter and the pivot to self care is more instinctual. I've always been a big fan of the Jealousy Workbook (https://amzn.to/3pnGkY8), but there's lots of guided meditations and journals that people find helpful for this kind of work. "You're nesting- like little birds!" Laura this week examines labels for relationships (rather than labels for self-identity) and how they reflect our narratives of relationship and self, and what those have to do with how we identify our polyamorous relationships in particular versus monogamous relationships and relationship escalator style relating. What does it mean to be a partner? What terms do we use for our partners? Are we lovers? boy/girl/joyfriends? Something different? One of the points she examines is the use of connotation in language - primary partner vs. nesting partner, vs. anchor partner as an example - what the differences and similarities of some of these terms are and why one might use one over another. She also examines how hierarchy, non-hierarchy, and relationship anarchy interact in this space and how language and labels for those types of relationships and expression of the emotional state of people in these relationships feed in. All of these ideas are concepts that are being parsed out in individual relationships every day, and that are mentioned in passing on the blog but seldom the center of a piece. Some posts that touch on them are: https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/the-relationship-escalator https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/defining-if-it-works-out https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/kitchen-table-and-parallel-polyamory-part-4-kitchen-table-polyamory https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/polyamorous-experts-or-why-i-don-t-call-myself-that https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/relationship-anarchy-applied-friends-with-benefits-and-play-partners I'll try to get something written that synthesizes my points a bit more concisely and add it when it's ready, but for now, those are what we've got. "I don't remember exactly what I was scared of, but I'm pretty sure it was younger, blonder, and prettier than me, at least." In today's episode, Laura tells the story of two of her earliest non-monogamous relationships as a frame for explaining ways to make relationship agreements (and some really good examples of ways not to). You can get out some popcorn and enjoy the spectacle of her insecure and underinformed early 20s in between listening to excellent advice. "You know, flowers and... I don't know, what's like a flower? Rose colored glasses?" As an expansion of last week's podcast, Laura discusses how to apply the ideas of consensual non-monogamy, polyamory, and relationship anarchist theory to friends with benefits and play partner relationships - and the ways each differ and combining them complicate one another. The idea that these relationships can be part of polyamorous folks' networks and shouldn't be dismissed as 'only' anything because they can be rich and fulfilling relationships that create important friendships and connections features, as highlighted in this post (https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/relationship-anarchy-applied-friends-with-benefits-and-play-partners) from the Ready for Polyamory blog. Strategies for handling jealousy, especially for folks who are previously monogamous or largely monogamish but engaging in play partnerships (as in the kink scene) are suggested, building off of this: https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/but-don-t-you-get-jealous Multiamory's RADAR concept is mentioned in the podcast, as a strategy for folks who want to build in some relationship-check-ins. "I feel like you're telling me a true story here-" Laura and David answer the important questions about application and theory of Relationship Anarchy in this week's episode. So what is Relationship Anarchy? In the most basic and technical sense it's the application of political anarchy theory to relationships. It's anti-hierarchy, anti-government intervention in relationships, pro-autonomy, pro-community interdependence, and anti-monogamy. Generally, this is compatible with non-hierarchical forms of polyamory, but we'll talk a little about the places where you might get hung up and why. We also talk a little about Andie Nordgren's Relationship Anarchist Manifesto and the principles it explicitly outlines about how to conduct relationships - not just romantic relationships but all interpersonal relationships. A relationship anarchist can practice polyamory as a relationship style, but they are still a believer in relationship anarchy. A polyamorist can support some or most of the underlying premises of relationship anarchy and not be a relationship anarchist because the one or two they don't are A Big Deal in RA; and we examine both and their intersection this week. This first half is who did our panel come out to first (and how, and why), and what reactions they all got. (SPOILER: the tagline is part of one reaction.) l hope that this episode helps people who have come out and it didn't go especially well, or who haven't come out yet because they're worried, see that the odds of it going well aren't terribly bad even if they aren't perfect. "I mean, really I just want to scream it from the rooftops that I love these humans - that's my important thing." The Relationship Escalator (https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/the-relationship-escalator) is a strong cultural imperative even beyond monogamous culture to make sure your relationship keeps "going somewhere"- that you go through all the steps of dating, "getting serious," getting engaged, getting married, having kids, getting a house, and being together forever til death do you part at that pinnacle. Polyamory inherently assumes that not all relationships must do this; in fact, that no relationships need do this. So, outside of these cultural norms, what markers do we use to measure the progress of our relationships? What milestones do we embrace? This is an essentially personal decision in each relationship, but this week's podcast tries to give some food for thought on the topic. Today's discussion is between our blog author & host, Laura, and her telemour, Meadow Perry, who have both found themselves intentionally building off-escalator relationships in recent years following breakups with spouses and nesting partners. Faithful readers of the blog at www.readyforpolyamory.com may remember Meadow's guest post, Love is Not A Loaf of Bread (https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/love-is-not-a-loaf-of-bread). "PS: I FOUND THE GUY!" 2020 has been defined, in large part, by the COVID-19 pandemic and precautions the population at large has taken to prevent its spread. How have these affected polyamorous relationships and networks? Have there been greater numbers of breakups? Have lockdown orders strengthened some relationships and weakened others? Our guest this week is a polyamorous event organizer in his local area and ran the New England Poly Prom event for 4 years (it would have been 5, but 2020 happened). His household came up with carefully defined, science-based, case-number per population guidelines for seeing their partners from outside the household when it became clear the shelter in place orders were not just going to be "a couple weeks in March." So, we had an interesting conversation about the effects these guidelines have had on their extended polycule that I struggled to cut down to an hour-long podcast for you all. "Look, let's use an example that has nothing to do with polyamory - Let's talk about TERFs." Laura talks with Dr. Liz Powell (despite the best efforts of the local cable internet monopoly to make it impossible to do so) about hierarchies in polyamorous networks. They touch on reasons people often enter their polyamorous journies with prescriptive hierarchies in place, and what the distinction of using these terms descriptively rather than prescriptively means, as well as situations where hierarchies might appear by surprise or "sneakily." Some of the conversation turns a little 'blue,' and is frank about sex and STIs, maybe don't listen to this one with the kids under teen age, so I'm marking the episode accordingly. Dr. Liz is a sex educator, therapist, speaker, and popular podcast guest who works with singles, couples, and polycules across the sexual spectra to improve their lives - including the sexual portions of them. They work with anyone who wants to cultivate healthy, consent-driven, and autonomy-focused relationships, although non-monogamists, non-binary folx, kinksters, and queerdos are a special focus. You all may remember that Laura wrote a bit of a screed against polyamorous representation in media on the blog on April 20 called "Advertising Polyamory" (https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/advertising-polyamory) because she was getting annoyed at white FFM triads getting all the press. You may recently have read Ken's post about positive news media on polyamory this week, "In the News: How the media Perception of Polyamory is good, actually." (www.readyforpolyamory.com) So, we sit down and have a nice conversation about whether polyamorous representation is a good thing. (We got the fight out the first 5 times, the benefit of being partners. The number of times we've had the conversation changes every time you ask, also a benefit of being partners.) Ken is a brilliant author and storyteller. Now, the link pimping. Ken's new book Stories and Sins is available here. (https://www.amazon.com/Stories-Sins-Kenneth-Dolan-Briodagh/dp/B08DBYPSYT/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=) Ken is the creator of StoryPhoenix, which you can visit at StoryPhoenix.com, facebook.com/StoryPhoenixes/, Twitter @StoryPhoenix_ . You can follow Ken @AtlasWriter on Twitter and youtube.com/user/atlaswriter. You can buy his book of poetry Stories and Sins here (https://www.amazon.com/Stories-Sins-Kenneth-Dolan-Briodagh/dp/B08DBYPSYT/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=), and you should, not just because I love him but because I like it. As always the intro and outro music has been provided by Vince Conaway who can be found at www.vinceconaway.com It is the last episode of season 1, I feel like I should be deeper than link pimping myself. Honestly, thank any and all of you who listened to all of these. I think it's a shame I lost the theory-wonkiest episodes; they're my deepest passion. If they're yours too and you'd like them for Season 2, let me know. If you want more general knowledge content, please tell me so, I can definitely do that too or instead, I'm just in my happy place arguing semantics. It's the near-academic in me. Today's guests are my metamours Daniel Greenwolf and Vanessa/Bella Greenwolf, discussing the relationship spectrum of parallel to kitchen table polyamory, how relationship definitions get slippery, why they think that makes them kind of useless for most people, and why the semantics are, in my opinion, kind of important anyway, because both agreeing you're "kitchen table polyamorous" and meaning two different things can cause huge problems down the line. In a polycule like ours, where things are kind of organically shifting and part kitchen table part parallel anyway (see this (https://www.readyforpolyamory.com/post/kitchen-table-to-parallel-polyamory-part-5-the-polycule-with-a-little-of-everything) post from way back when everyone wanted me using pseudonyms for more information) that's less important, but for some folks it really matters. This episode was meant to be centered on finding local community, meeting people near you, integrating into new polyamorous social circles, and so on - and went rather off the rails because I invited a very old friend to do it with me. Talya recently re-relocated (she was kind of migratory for a while) to Mexico City, and is exploring polyamory in that cultural context in a more serious way for the first time, which colored the conversation. Current events colored the conversation. Familial interruption colored the conversation. So, I've cut you a delightful, entertaining, and (I think) educational episode of me picking this brilliant woman I've been lucky enough to call a friend for many years' brain, and I hope you enjoy it. As always, the intro and outro music is provided by the talented Vince Conaway. (www.vinceconaway.com) Talya is a polyamorous holistic mental health coach, mother and pagan eclectic witch with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She has been polyamorous for more than a decade and draws on her experiences in polyamorous relationships, as well as her own mental health journey, to empower others to find their own ways of expressing their authenticity. She recently relocated to Mexico City and is exploring polyamory in this new cultural context. Laura and Seva discuss the good, the bad, and the meh, as regards relationships with metamours. Mostly an interview of Seva and discussion of the past. The ladies largely agree that 80-90% of metamour relationships are good to "meh", and bad relationships are few and farther between, as well as often being initiated by partners or "partner problems, rather than meta problems." Small content warning: allusions to adult/sexual activity content, no explicit descriptions. If you're looking for encouragement that good metamour relationships, or at least better ones, are coming, skip the nine to ten minutes after the intro, that's Seva reliving her worst ever metamour relationship, which was definitely a partner problem, but she was new enough to not know that yet. Seva is largely anonymous on this show due to not being out at work but teaches in the poly and rope communities and helped build upline rope; you can find the link in her guest link below. Laura and her friend Olivia discuss Ambiamory, the ability to go between polyamory and monogamy as a matter of choice rather than orientation. Warning: discussion of some adult situations as portrayed on an explicit television show. If frank discussion of human sexuality or its misuse by a television network for cheap entertainment offends you, do not listen to this episode. Corwin and Laura take apart all the ways the 2012 Season 1 Episodes 1-3 of Polyamory: Married and Dating portray polyamory negatively, or as a stereotyped joke, while noting that this was pretty much the heyday and high point of scripted/not scripted "reality tv" and that if you missed this then, you might still find equal parts enjoyment and anger in watching it, as Laura did. It looks like it's available through showtime's streaming service, though Laura has that channel as an add-on to her Amazon prime account. If you want to watch before you listen, or after you listen to the "recap," (or after the episode, because, really, while we make a great case for it being bad community representation, we also make a great case for it being quite entertaining, albeit cringier than I like) it's "half-hour" made for cable episodes so it takes an hour to watch all three. It's absolutely not necessary, but if you want the option, that's where to find the show; season 1, episodes 1-3. In addition to being an expert on pre 2015 reality tv, Corwin has been practicing ethical non-monogamy for the past eight years, getting his start with polyamory and slowly branching out into other styles of non-monogamy. Currently, he describes his relationship style as ethical non-hierarchical non-monogamy. He also owns and operates Upline, CT's premiere rope studio, the details about which can be found at https://uplinestudio.com. His personal rope & photography projects can be found on Instagram @corwinrope. Compersion is typically defined in the polyamorous community as happiness at the happiness of one's partner with their other partner(s). Some people go so far as to use the phrase "the opposite of jealousy." Laura discusses the concept, the possibility of broadening this definition to "positive empathy for one's partner" and whether that waters down the concept too far (and if so, if we need the concept) - with Kimota Tigerlily and Seva. If you love adventure, then you will find your heart pumping with an interview I did with Vince Conaway. -- I'll be at Sherwood Forest Faire this weekend. Once again, I have four shows daily. I'm also launching the fundraiser for my next CD Irish Adventures on Higgins' Moon. You can get a copy of that album when you join the Gunn Runners Club on Patreon. If you enjoyed this episode, then please post a review on iTunes or your favorite podcatcher. Then head over to my website to subscribe to my mailing list and download free music at celtfather.com.

Several years ago Alec and Dan the founding brothers of Scythian, released a kids album for their 25 nieces and nephews called Cake For Dinner. It's a nice mix of traditional Irish songs like South Australia and The Littlest Jig, as well as folk and campfire songs from the U.S., French Canadian, Italian, and Ukrainian. Check it out at http://cakefordinnermusic.com. Plus their newest album Old Tin Can, is a return to their folk roots. A great band for all ages.
