POPULARITY
Stu Watts chats with George Carpenter, who is a record producer, songwriter, arranger, recording engineer and mixer. An avid music nerd since a young age, he was classically trained in drums, percussion, piano and composition/arrangement at school before going on to complete a Bachelor of Popular Music at the Queensland Conservatorium in 2009. Having previously been a member of several notable groups such as The Delta Riggs, Mourning Tide and Jimmy the Saint & the Sinners, George then went on to open a recording studio called ‘Little Pink' on the Gold Coast in 2012 which he operated until relocating to Melbourne in 2014. Working freelance from Sing Sing South, Woodstock and Sound Park he then managed to secure his own production suite at the iconic Aviary Studios in Abbotsford where he predominately worked between 2016 and 2021 producing for many artists and bands including APRA, QMA and Darebin Song Contest winners Ash Grunwald, Karl S. Williams and Paige Barnard. Since returning to the SE QLD in 2021 George has continued to work with a diverse group of artists such as Emily Grace Taylor, Heavy Wax, Mr Rascal, Eils & the Drip, Willie J & The Bad Books, Okmattcollins, Eimhin and Alexander William from his private studio in the Gold Coast hinterland. As a drummer and keyboard player, George currently tours with Karl S. Williams and Little Georgia. He is proudly endorsed by Ludwig Drums and Los Cabos Drumsticks. This is the second episode in our series on Archives. Artist-researcher Eimhin Daly discuss the entangled sites of their research to consider what constitutes an archival relation. Seeing place itself as an archive, they are concerned with practices of relation, specifically with unlearning relations to place and pasts that are produced by imperialism and nationalism in Ireland. ---- Bio: Eimhin Daly is an artist-researcher working with performance and writing. They are currently undertaking a PhD in the School of Arts at the University of Roehampton. Their research project emerged from an engagement with site-specific feminist artworks. In following artists Alanna O'Kelly and Anne Tallentire to Connemara on the west coast of Ireland—the artists' sites of inspiration three decades ago—Eimhin pays attention to intergenerational affinity and difference in considering (hi)stories of displacement in the region. Listening beyond dominant, amplified narratives, they complicate the notion of Irish loss and longing, and make explicit national perpetration and participation in ongoing settler-colonialism. --- Technecast: This episode is presented by Julien Clin. The Technecast is funded by the Techne AHRC-DTP, and produced and edited by Polly Hember, Julien Clin, Felix Clutson, Edwin Gilson, Morag Thomas and Olivia Aarons. Breifne is speaking to Donal Wrynn of Fenagh after his team ensured they will be in the Senior Championship draw next season with a straight forward victory over Gortletteragh yesterday afternoon. We also hear from the secretary of Gortletteragh, Darren Mulvey, about what's going on in their club after a disappointing season and what the future holds for the now relegated side. Niall Morahan drops in to chat about his man of the match performance for Sligo Rovers against Shamrock Rovers on Saturday night when Ireland manager Mick McCarthy was in the stadium to watch his direct opponent Jack Byrne. Welcome back to Animator's Breakfast, my monthly podcast. In our third episode, I'm joined by Irish Industry veteran Eimhin Mc Namara, and his influential choice of Pojd'te Pane, budeme si hrát (Hey Mister! Let's Play). Its a Czech animated tv series by Bretislav Pojar, released 1965-1973. They are essentially a series of shorts of 2.5D animation, surrounding two bears that have wild imaginations and personalities. The shape shifting alone is spectacular, and one thing that comes out of Pojar's work here is how playful the animation is. Even without knowing what they're saying, you can fully follow the story and enjoy it. Eimhin is the current General Managing Director for the incredible and independent studio, Paper Panther. If you've never heard of them, I'd really recommend to check them out. Animation with them is a joy to watch as they experiment through the variety of mediums. You can find more of Eimhin's work at https://vimeo.com/eimhinmcnamara Here is Paper Panther's site: https://www.paperpanther.ie/ Also, here's episodes of Pojd'te Pane if you want to enjoy them for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RulQ... Check it all out if you'd like more context! Music: Shrug Life - 2009 (https://soundcloud.com/shruglifemusic/2009a)
