Today on the Basketball Manitoba Podcast, we have Jon Giesbrecht, a coach who's built a career around player development, the mental game, and helping athletes play free.He started coaching at 15 when he stepped in to coach his younger brother's team, and he hasn't stopped since then. He's coached many of those same players to a JV provincial championship and an undefeated Grade 12 season at John Taylor Collegiate, where he was the co-coach of the program, with many players going on to play university basketball.He has coached at the provincial team level, winning a gold medal as an assistant with the U17 boys team. He's also worked with Canada Basketball as a video coordinator for the Canadian Junior Men's National Team. He's coached at the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba, including two seasons as a full-time assistant coach with the University of Regina women's program. He moved on from the college level and went on to coach prep in Italy as the director of mental performance.The last two seasons, he was with the Vancouver Bandits as Director of Mental Skills & Performance. He also runs a private practice called “Play Free”, where he teaches athletes how to handle pressure, regulate emotions, and perform when it matters.

「将来Jリーグ挑戦期待！C大阪・千葉OBで事故死ケンペスの息子が16歳でプロデビュー「父が…」」　　かつてセレッソ大阪、ジェフユナイテッド千葉に在籍していたFWケンペスは、シャペコエンセ所属時の2016年11月、ラミア航空2933便墜落事故に遭い死去。そのケンペスの息子であるMFジョアン・ケンペスが16歳でプロデビューを果たしている。　ジョアンはブラジル出身であるが、4歳の頃に父が千葉でプレー。日本のサッカースクールで初めてボールを蹴ると、8歳でグレミオの下部組織に加入し、14歳まで在籍。その後サン・ジョゼでプレーし、2024年11月に名門インテルナシオナルへ加入。2025年はU17チームへ昇格したばかりながらチームの中心選手として活躍。同年8月にはトップチームの練習に参加し、10月にプロ契約を結んでいる。　そんなジョアンは、2026年1月31日に行われたリオグランデ・ド・スル州選手権第6節でプロデビュー。本人はインスタグラムで「正直、何から話せばいいのか分かりません。まずは神様に感謝し、そして家族に感謝したいです。これまで本当に多くのことを経験し、悲しい時間もありましたが、それでも家族は一度も僕を支えることをやめませんでした。この瞬間が訪れるように必死に努力してきましたし、神様のおかげでそれが実現しました」と喜びをあらわにしている。　なお、ジョアンは2025年12月にブラジル『GZH』のインタビューで、父や家族に言及。「今は、父がより良い場所にいると理解しています。天国から僕を守ってくれていて、とても誇りに思ってくれているはずです。何かを成し遂げるたびに父を思い出します。どんな成功にも、父はその一部として関わっています」「家族はいつも支えてくれました。事故の後、母は少し不安を感じていましたが、僕は続けました。どうしてもプロサッカー選手になりたかった。母も次第に応援してくれるようになり、今は家族の大きな支えがあります」などと語っている。　2012年から14年までC大阪や千葉でプレーし、C大阪時代に柿谷曜一朗氏やFW杉本健勇（現RB大宮アルディージャ）らとチームメイトだったケンペス。息子のジョアンについても、今は亡き父と同じく、将来的なJリーグ挑戦も期待される。

Ordentliche Mittelfeldplätze sind schon fest gebucht, aber vielleicht geht noch ein bisschen mehr.Am Karnevalswochenende spielt die U20 in den Topspielen gegen die Jungadler in der KA2.Wir blicken auf den aktuellen Stand der Eishockey-Turniere bei den olympischen Spielen. 「日本国籍取得報道も。日本代表入り期待されるカイケ・ケンジ、元Jリーガーの危険タックルで重傷か」　　ブラジル代表OBクレーベルを父に持つU20ブラジル代表MFカイケ・ケンジ（クルゼイロ）が、11日に行われた同国1部リーグ戦で負傷。すでに日本国籍取得の可能性が報じられ、将来的な日本代表入りが期待される有望株に対して、元栃木SC・横浜FC所属MFユーリ・ララ（ミラソウ）が強烈なタックルを見舞い、一発退場となっている。　カイケは2-2で迎えた89分からプレーしていたが、後半アディショナルタイムの90＋5分、パスを出そうとした際にユーリからスライディングタックルを受けて転倒。その際、右足首をユーリの右脚に巻き込まれている。主審はこのシーンをOFR（オンフィールドレビュー）で確認した後、ユーリに対してレッドカードを提示した。　現地メディア『スポーツセンター・ブラジル』によると、カイケは試合後、右足を固定し、松葉杖姿で試合会場を後にしたとのこと。怪我の程度は現時点で不明だが、靭帯損傷で長期離脱の可能性もあるとみられる。　現在19歳のカイケはサンパウロ州出身であり、日本国籍を有するアタッカー。日本での生活経験はなく、2022年のU17チーム加入からクルゼイロ一筋のキャリアを歩んでいる。2024シーズンはU20リーグ戦11試合のスタメン出場で9ゴールと結果を残すと、同年11月20日のコリンチャンス戦でトップチームデビュー。2025シーズンはトップチームで公式戦7試合に出場したほか、U20リーグ戦では3ゴールをマーク。2026シーズンはここまでトップチームの公式戦5試合の出場で1ゴールを挙げていた。　カイケの今後については、ブラジルメディア『ge』が2024年7月時点で「日本国籍取得に向けての手続きを行っている」と報道。2025年にクルゼイロのトップチームへ昇格するなど、同国内屈指の有望株として期待されているが、2026年1月時点で国際Aマッチでのプレー歴がないことから、日本代表入りは可能だ。

Zum Auftakt trifft das Team der Trainer Jeffrey Yankey, Mike Welzel und Christof Dillmann am Fuße des Bieberer Bergs auf den Nachwuchs von Kickers Offenbach (So., 08.02.2026, 12:30 Uhr). Gemeinsam mit John Rausch, Geschäftsstellenleiter der TuS Koblenz und Leiter des Grundlagenbereichs der Schängelschmiede, sprechen wir über die letzten Vorbereitungen der U17 auf den Start in die Nachwuchsliga, die aktuelle Entwicklung der Jugendkooperation mit Eintracht Frankfurt sowie über Johns besonderen Aufgabenbereich, die U9 bis U11. Kirk trifft nur bis der Rekord eingestellt ist und die „Ausverkauftserie“ der LANXESSarena wird jetzt mit jedem Spiel vergrößert.Wir gucken wie immer zu Beginn des Sharkbite zum eV. Die U20 schlägt aktuell Mannheim und holte auch am Wochenende Punkte in beiden Spielen. Die U17 jetzt Tabellenführer nach einem 6-Punkte-Wochenende und auch die Damen liefern gute Ergebnisse.Am kommenden Wochenende geht es dann mit Heimspielen für die U20 – gegen die Eisbären Juniors – weiter, die U17 ist in Kaufbeuren zu Gast. Zudem sind die Damen zu Gast in Hannover (1a) bzw. in Krefeld (1c).Erstmalig haben die Haie das Thema eV auch sehr groß gespielt und die Mitgliedschaft zum ersten Mal (?) aktiv beworben.Am Freitag Rekord eingestellt, am Sonntag gebrochen. Die Haie gewinnen auch in Bremerhaven und gegen Iserlohn. Es waren nicht immer die besten Spiele, aber die Siege am Ende stehen zu Buche.Wir betrachten die Spiele und gehen auf Punkte ein, die uns besonders haften geblieben sind.Die DEL-Tabelle kurz vor der Olympiapause hat langsam eine gewisse Aussagekraft. Wir schauen mal was das genau heißt und gucken wie immer auf ein paar Spiele etwas genauer.Die News in der DEL gibt es noch dazu und wir reden nochmal über die Strafe gegen Kari Jalonen.Wir haben es letzte Woche angeteasert. Viertelfinalqualifikation, DEL-Rekord und natürlich die Heimserie.Es geht zuerst an den Neckarursprung gegen die unberechenbaren Wild Wings bevor dann die Ice Tigers und die Löwen noch zu Gast in der LANXESSarena sind.Interessant für Euch: Für diese drei Spiele und vor der langen Pause packen wir den Nightliner nochmal aus.Die ersten 11 im Tippspiel haben die 400 Punktemarke geknackt. So CloseSo close… So nah dran. Nicht nur die Haie am Rekord, sondern auch wir an der fälschlich proklamierten Folge 128 im Intro. Es ist tatsächlich schon die 129. Nun ja, den Haien fehlt auch nur noch ein Sieg zur Einstellung des eigenen Rekordes. Nächste Woche sind wir dann wieder „up to date“ und was den Rekord angeht wissen wir dann auch mehr.Alles in allem ein gutes Wochenende im e.V. Bereich. Die U20 holt vier von sechs möglichen Punkten in den Duellen gegen Dresden und die U17 sogar alle sechs Punkte in Augsburg. Das Damen-Derby geht leider an die DEG, aber die 1b gewinnt in Düsseldorf bei den Devils.Am kommenden Wochenende ist die U20 auf Reisen in Landshut, die U17 empfängt Schwenningen und die Damen 1b spielt am Samstag nach der U17 gegen Luxemburg. Da bietet sich sowohl der Samstag - mit U17 und Damen - als auch der Sonntag mit U17 und Profis wieder an die KA2 zu besuchen.Die Haie eilen weiterhin von Sieg zu Sieg. Es muss nicht mal immer das perfekte Spiel sein, aktuell gewinnen die Haie einfach. Auch in Ingolstadt – dank eines späten Treffers von Kaski – und in Augsburg mit ordentlicher Partie und etwas Metall.Das die größte Lücke in der Tabelle – nach Frankfurt/Dresden – die von Platz eins zu Platz zwei ist, hätten wir bei der letzten Aufnahme für heute nicht auf unserem Bingo gehabt.Hinter den Haien gibt es mehrere kleine Grüppchen, die um die Positionen kämpfen. So gibt es Teams im Kampf um das Heimrecht in den Playoffs, einen Kampf um Platz sechs und einen großen Kampf um die letzten Playoff-Plätze. Am Ende der Tabelle scheint hingegen alles klar und schon jetzt entschieden. Send us a textIn June 2022, Mark Walters suffered a stroke on the pickleball court, an ordeal that doctors said left him in the 99.9th percentile of survival with remarkable mental and physical acuity. Though he continues to live with lingering effects such as numbness and diminished taste, Mark has not only returned to the court but continues to improve his game. A lifelong athlete: U17 city table tennis champion at 14, high school tennis player, and Hall of Fame softball coach, Mark's life has always centered around sports and teaching. After 36 years as a high school English teacher, coach of 4 varsity sports, and athletic director, he now serves as a pickleball instructor at The Flying Pickle in Boise. For Mark, pickleball is more than recreation: it literally saved his life. In addition to sports, this father of 3 and grandfather of 7 played in 2 separate NCAA marching bands (University of Michigan and Michigan State University) and got to perform in the Rose Bowl and World Series.
