Send us a textWoHos!Welp. This week we looked at two films, all right. Mom hated THE PERFECTION and there was no love lost between Mac & STOPMOTION.CW for mention/suggestion of child rape in THE PERFECTION and childhood trauma in STOPMOTION.Both films are about mental illness and both fail spectacularly in its depiction. THE PERFECTION could have been a joyous, campy romp, but it is too careless with its subject matter and results in a horribly distasteful mess.STOPMOTION has some wonderful stop motion sequences which may be worth the price of admission, but even with its short run time, it overstays its welcome. This was a fun conversation about two repellent films.Next time we are covering two films that deal with class warfare: READY OR NOT & THE PLATFORM. As Bristol claymation legends Aardman's new film hits screens, Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode look at the enduring appeal of the most painstaking and time-consuming art form conceivable - stop motion animation. Ellen talks to director Guillermo del Toro about his 2022 Oscar winner Pinocchio, as well as some of his favourite stop motion films, from Jason And The Argonauts to The Nightmare Before Christmas. And Mark speaks to animation professor Maureen Furniss and up-and-coming animator Joseph Wallace about why stop motion is so subversive - and so cool.Producer: Jane Long A Prospect Street production for BBC Radio 4
Chicken Run & Chicken Run - Operation Nugget | Hennen rennen (Netflix) Die Hennen rennen wieder! “I have a question. If I'm Beetle and you're Monkey, why isn't he called Boy?" We are bringing an end to our "Stop Motion Animation" round, so we had to talk about a film from one of the most prominent animation houses in the business, Laika Studios. We are checking out 2016's "Kubo and the Two Strings", the directorial debut from Travis Knight, CEO of Laika. Joined by our very own Honey Boy, Jon from the "Life's But A Song" podcast, we talk about the extremely white voice cast, why this was Laika's lowest performing movie, and what movie we'd pair this with for an Adam Driver Drive-In Double Feature! We also come up with our "Twins in Movies" Rushmore Mountain. Enjoy! “It's like a movie but nobody has any lines and nobody even knows what it is while they're making it." We are joined by our friend Ethan Simmie (24 Minutes of A24) as we continue our Stop Motion Animation round with Oscar-nominated film based on the classic YouTube videos, "Marcel the Shell with Shoes On". Written by and starring Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer Camp (who also directed), this is the story of a mollusk in search of his family. Is this the cutest movie ever made? Was this worth turning into a feature length film? And will anything be better than hearing Isabella Rossellini doing the '60 Minutes' clock ticking? Emily Puente is a total pro at so many things - and stop motion animation is one of the latest ways she's sharing her creativity with the world. This form of visual storytelling is an incredible way to create a scene and bring viewers on a ride, all through a series of very small movements. Her company, Huddl Studio, specializes in short-form content for social media and creative content for websites. Her work is showcased through social media posts that instantly grab your attention! She definitely knows how to create visuals that are both compelling and memorable. In addition to this stop motion animation specialty, she and her creative collaborator, who happens to be her husband, have also established two other successful businesses over the years: Emily and Steven Photography, specializing in weddings and portraits, and Huddl Booth, providing mobile photo booths for events. On this episode, host Angela de Burger chats with Emily about how she discovered stop motion animation and why she loves it, her ability to creatively pivot when needed, the role storytelling plays in her work, and the creative process she's developed over time.Say hi to Emily: Instagram Website ----Creative Pulse Podcast socials: Instagram: creativepulsepodcast Twitter @CreativePulseTWMusic credit: https://www.purple-planet.com

It's a film that helped launch the careers of both Burton and Michael Keaton and has become one of the film most named when discussing Burton's filmography. But the big question is...will it be the same film we both remembered or something totally different given a few years since we both last watched it? Tune in as we discuss the film, it's journey to screen and that incredible dance scene!

Stop motion animation is unnerving even when it's trying to be cheery. When it's leaning into isolation and despair, it's downright horrifying. This week, the crew unpacks materialism and fantastic voice acting in a compelling stop motion anthology. We also highlight four Ukrainian horror movies. Motion Picture Terror Scale: 2 (Marcus & Grady), 3 (Melissa). Quality: 5. Enjoyment: 5. Articles mentioned in this episode: "Interview: The House Director Paloma Baeza Talks Inspirations Behind Story Three And Her Love For Cats," by Raven Brunner in Game Rant. "Whats the matter with misfits, thats where we fit in!" Time to dive into the stop motion world of Rankin/Bass! Before we get into the special itself, it's important to go into the history of the story and song...which explains why we never see Rudolph in Santa's gang even though he's famous Learn how the story writer was a copywriter who came up with the idea just for a promotional giveaway, how the songwriter served his country before coming up with the song and how they convinced a reluctant Gene Autry into singing the first hit of the 50s. (A Ben and Fiona episode - prepare for an Irish potty mouth and bullshit trivia)In Greek Mythology, he was known as the protector of human parcels, the letter guide, someone who always delivered the goods on time and to the correct recipient.I thought it more appropriate when my ears told me I'd heard someone utter the words 'Bringer of grief' when chin-wagging with our hero of the piece, Jas.Considering mine (and many others, I'm sure) tainted history with the establishment scandalously brandishing themselves as 'Hermes,' this was the sign from the Gods I'd been longing for. I misheard, of course, and the messenger of Gods persists in delivering goods to anyone, anything other than me. Anywho, let's talk nappies and skinny legs! Jason and his wonderfully macho Argonauts set sail for the golden fleece - Can they sail over here and raid Fiona's knitwear collection? Amongst those hideous things, you'll find a gold one, I'm sure. You'll find no muscle-bound juiced to the gills men here, just hair, lots of hair, great hair and the occasional stuck on the beard for good measure. The work of the late, great Ray Harryhausen, Jas and his Argonauts maybe stands atop mount Olympus as the best example of his wonderous stop motion - an arduous, painstaking task and something that would not have looked out of place as one of the 12 labours of Hercules! In this installment... John Alston and I show off our eccentric passions for film and film-making. John talks about how falling in love with the lost art of "Stop Motion Animation" helped him stand out from the crowd at film school, and the remarkable therapeutic peace that the art brings with it for him. We talk about some things you may not have been aware of, or may even disagree with regarding numerous films and filmmakers including: -Jurassic Park -Heath Ledger vs Robert Downey Jr. at the Oscars -Indiana Jones -Christopher Nolan -Kurt Wimmer -Batman: Mask of the Phantasm -Tim Burton -Batman and Robin And more... ------------- Here are the links we talked about during the conversation ------------- Follow John-Alston Filmmaker at https://www.facebook.com/oldschoolsfxwizard ------------- Here are some notes from the conversation ------------- The name of the character portrayed by Georges St. Pierre in Captain America: The Winter Solider that I try to remember in the beginning of this episode was "Batroc".
