You start a podcast, it's fun for about 3 weeks and then - life starts happening... recordings are getting more inconvenient, you don't know what to talk about, your guests aren't responding, everything is expensive and you have ten downloads on your episodes.I know I say this in every episode, but podcasting is hard. It's time consuming, it's expensive, it's frustrating, it's loney, and sometimes it's hard to know when it's time to quit. In this episode we'll talk about that inevitable crossroads that every podcaster will eventually find themselves in and how to know when and if it's time to quit your podcast.

The Department for Education's Working Lives of Teachers and Leaders research shows that secondary teachers are working almost 50 hours a week on average while secondary leaders work more than 58 hours a week. This episode features two experienced school leaders who have both undertaken a range of initiatives in their schools to bring workload down for all staff. We discuss some of the most common workload challenges before hearing about some of their approaches, offering tips and ideas, and identifying a number of areas where schools might be able to reduce workload and working hours. Specifically, we cover topics including strategies for assessment and marking, timetable and calendar planning, internal communications and meetings, behaviour management, additional duties, and more. We also touch upon the various forms of flexible working and how some of these can be made to work in the secondary school environment – including touching upon the government's plans to allow teachers' PPA time to be taken at home.

Struggling to keep your podcast fresh? The secret might just be repetition! Discover why revisiting your core topics can boost your authority and keep listeners coming back for more. Ever feel like you're running out of new ideas for your podcast? You're not alone. Many podcasters hit a wall, thinking they need fresh topics all the time. Here's the kicker: you don't. It's not about reinventing the wheel; it's about reinforcing your message. Most of your listeners haven't heard every episode. They didn't start at episode #1 and follow religiously. Even your super-fans don't remember everything. So, repeating topics isn't just okay—it's essential. It reinforces your message, aids comprehension, and solidifies your authority. Imagine explaining a concept multiple times in different ways—using new analogies, fresh takes, or case studies. This repetition helps listeners fully grasp and retain your message. Plus, it establishes you as the go-to expert in your field. And think about this: when people search for solutions online, they look at multiple sources. You want to be that recurring expert who shows up in their search results, not just a one-time hit. Running a business means solving your ideal customer's problems. You don't have to constantly innovate new solutions. Stay in your lane, solve that one problem exceptionally well, and keep attracting new listeners. Recycle and revamp your old topics with new insights and perspectives. It's not about dazzling your audience with novelty every time but ensuring they understand and remember your core messages. In this episode, Wynne Leon and Vicki Atkinson are finishing their two-part series about podcasting. In this second episode of the two, we are focusing on the mechanics of podcasting. We talk about some of the choices we've had to make about where to publish our podcast, how widely to distribute it on other platforms, and what we've learned about how those choices impact things like the ability to see listener stats. Vicki brings up some of the down stream options that have come to us to partner with people and how our approach is to be curious and careful. Which extends to advertising and making money off a podcast, neither of which we've done, because we've taken this slow route. In this episode, we also talk about how to find and invite guests on, a practice we still are relatively new at but has been so fun and inspiring to us personally to get to meet our guests. Vicki and I talk about the care and feeding of guests as well as our ongoing practice to be voracious listeners. And although we don't talk about it on air, Vicki found a great resource of podcast ideas along the way on our journey and so we link to it below. This is a fun episode of storytelling about podcasting, with a few extra stories about the silliness of the ups and downs that happen along the way. We laugh even as we talk about dry topics like podcast platforms and stats. I know you'll love it. This week Dillon and Daniel are back with yet another installment of terrible podcast ideas (check out the 1st 2 if you missed them), this time with post-hoc commentary from Dillon. Listen as the guys ask "What if Keanu Reeves?" Ponder as they debate Communism I guess. Pray as they discus what kind of Beyblade Jesus would have. All that and other such nonsense to follow. Speaking of following, follow Shock And Autism everywhere: https://allmylinks.com/shockandautism

Just the Tip from Your Podcast Performance Coach

Do you ever feel like you are running out of things to talk about in your podcast?  You are not alone. I hear this challenge from a lot of podcasters.  The good news is that there's gold hiding in your past episodes! I've talked before about how to use past topics to inspire fresh topic ideas (check out episode 056 “How to Brainstorm your Podcast Ideas” or episode 024 of Just One Tip “5 Ways to Generate Podcast Topic Ideas”) but thought I would share this tip again because a client of mine recently had an epiphany.  She listened to her trailer and was reminded of a whole bunch of stuff she had planned to talk about but hadn't yet covered.  Suddenly she was filling in her content calendar with juicy topics.  You might be surprised how much inspiration is lurking in past episodes.  Now, before you get bent out of shape and start saying things like, ‘Coach, I've talked about everything already!' Let me reassure you that there is huge value in revisiting, updating, or remixing your ideas.  Think about some of the best known thought leaders. They don't stop talking about something because they've mentioned it once. Heck no! They keep talking about it.  Can you imagine? “Oh, I did a Ted Talk on that topic so I'm not going to bother talking about that again…” Neil deGrasse Tyson isn't going to talk about space anymore because he already talked about it once or twice. Jillian Michaels already did an episode on weight loss so she's done with that topic.    Madness, I tell you.    Re-sharing your ideas in new and fresh ways is not repetitive. It's not laziness. It's called being consistent and that's called having a strategy!  In this episode, I share a few ways for you to mine your old topics and episodes. Hit play and then head into your back catalog, heck listen to your own trailer again, and start jotting down opportunities to refresh and reshare some topics.  If you need a bit more help fleshing out your content calendar or figuring out which topics you should strategically be repeating, grab 15 minutes of my time. It's free. Yep, I'm prepared to give you a 15-minute spot on my calendar totally for free. It's what I do. I'm your podcast performance coach.  —----------------- Book your FREE 15-Minute Podcast Coaching Call https://calendly.com/timwohlberg   Listen to more 5-minute episodes, explore my resources and check out my coaching packages at https://podcastperformancecoach.com/   Got a Question?
