Nigel's guest today is Anthony Kavanagh, better known as pop star Kavana. Kavana was one of the most fresh faced, wholesome teen pop stars in the late 90s with songs like I Can Make You Feel Good and MFEO hitting the top 10 and making him hugely successful worldwide and the 'butter-wouldn't-melt' cover star of every pop magazine out there. But Anthony knew he was gay, a fact he hid from virtually everyone because of shame. He also became addicted to alcohol and drugs in order to function. It was an addiction that would take everything he had once wished for away from him. His brilliant book, Pop Scars, is a memoir about fame, addiction and the dark side of 90s pop. This series is a celebration of a beautiful queer community; people of all ages, people who have had to tread their own path to live their real truth, who have fought with their emotions and emerged victorious, who inspire, who aspire and always entertain. Artist in Residence, Gail Meyer, in conversation with Helen Kavanagh. Learn more about Meyer's four week residency at RMOA and how works from the Collection inspired new directions in her artistic practice. About Gail MeyerMeyer is a Rockhampton-based artist with a practice spanning more than 20 years. Meyer's relationship to her hometown Rockhampton, Central Queensland, on Darumbal Country, continues to inform her art-making. Exploring the attachment of memory and place with familiar environments, presents a challenge in representing the familiar in a new way, and not just pictorially.Meyer undertook formal studies in visual art at Central Queensland University from 2000 to 2002 in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and since then has diversified her practice further by attending a range of skills development workshops in the contemporary genre tutored by notable Australian artists such as Tim Storrier, Idris Murphy, Andrew Antoniou, David Fairbairn, Peter Sharp, and Jo Furlonger at an annual artist's retreat in Central Queensland. Creating a wide range of visual stimulation and discussion around her work is the driving force behind her practice.Meyer creates dynamic, immersive artworks, where ‘place' is not only a source of inspiration but a way of connecting to others and expressing her identity and connection to the world. A deep respect and sensitivity for the landscape of Darumbal Country is expressed through richly layered mixed media artworks that are joyful and whimsical.

Listener Menopause Exercise Question: Are You Exercising Too Much, Too Little, or Just Right?” Recently, a listener asked a menopause exercise question, "I'm doing strength training three times a week for 30 minutes. Is that too much? If you have wondered, or wonder what is enough, too much or the Goldilocks for you, this is for you. Based on a study in Ireland called Menowell (not to be confused with the bars), almost 70% of us get our information from friends and 50% get information from social media. So, beware. Even researchers right now are spending a lot of time and energy getting eyeballs and making shocking statements. Instead of merely sharing the facts, they're being as inflammatory as the influencers they claim not to be. Quick Overview: Menopause can bring bone loss, muscle loss, metabolic changes, mood shifts & symptoms like hot flashes and sleep troubles. Promise: By the end, you'll know how to calibrate exercise for maximum benefit and minimal burnout, even if you're not experiencing any of these. Why exercise is non-negotiable? Exercise is medicine. Muscle is medicine and an endocrine organ. Muscle is HRT if you allow it to be. Like any other medicine, the right dose and timing are crucial. How much is too little? I could answer in a very generic way: Minimum WHO/HHS guidelines: 150 min moderate aerobic + 2 strength sessions weekly Under 150 min weekly leads to missed benefits like bone density maintenance and cardiometabolic protection This is not a generic podcast and you're not a generic woman. So, let's answer with the uniqueness you deserve. Whether you're exercising too little or too much your body leaves both objective and subjective data. Red flags of Undertraining and Overtraining: Persistent fatigue Ongoing symptoms Plateau in strength/mood/weight. More Answers to Your Menopause Exercise Questions When exercise becomes too much: Excessive high-intensity sessions >3× weekly without recovery ups injury risk—especially for connective tissue for women in midlife. Overtraining stress can aggravate symptoms, disturb sleep, mood, and adrenal health, appetite/cravings and libido. Emma Kavanagh KK U23 Camogie Mgr. chats to CRKC (Post v Galway) 28.06.2025
Nearly one year on from launch, Grinds360, Ireland's leading hybrid learning platform, has seen explosive growth, with over 3,000 paying members and 18,000 app users as the 2024/25 Leaving Cert draws to a close. By combining established and trusted teachers with AI-powered personalisation, Grinds360 is transforming how students prepare for their exams. Backed by a €3.2 million seed round and set to double revenue in 2025/26, the company has established itself as the go-to alternative to traditional grind schools. Grinds360 was founded on the belief that affordability and accessibility should be the foundation of exam support, something that, for too long, students across Ireland have been denied. That mission has resonated nationwide, with 65% of sign-ups now coming from outside Dublin, highlighting the demand for a more inclusive alternative to traditional grind schools. On Grinds360's future, Brendan Kavanagh, Chairman and Co-Founder says, "The numbers speak for themselves - there's a real hunger for a new model of academic support. Families are fed up with the high costs and limited options, but we have shown that there is a better way forward as the Irish education landscape continues to shift. Our ambition is to build a platform that doesn't just improve how students prepare for exams, but fundamentally changes what they expect. We've shown that you can make high quality, personalised education accessible to students no matter where they live, or what school they attend. Now we're focused on scaling that impact even further and becoming the gold standard for digital learning." Grinds360 model is a unique hybrid approach, combining Ireland's leading teachers with cutting-edge AI student tracking tech and a flexible all-access membership. For a single subscription fee, priced up to 75% cheaper than traditional grind schools, students gain unlimited access to live weekly grinds in 14 core subjects, over 3,000 on-demand lessons across 20 subjects, high-end animations and knowledge checks, expert-curated digital notes and exam focused revision courses. Having already addressed major barriers around affordability and accessibility, Grinds360 is now turning its attention to a growing concern in Irish education: the pressure on students to leave their schools entirely in the lead-up to exams. Kavanagh added, "Instead of replacing classroom teachers, we are working alongside them, challenging the outdated idea that success requires leaving school, friends, and local teachers for a full-time grind school - a growing trend we have seen in recent years. Students don't need to abandon their schools to get top-tier tuition. Ireland already has excellent teachers and strong schools, what students need is additional support that works alongside their education. We've made expert teaching accessible and affordable, and our results show that students don't need to break bonds with their teachers, classmates or communities to succeed." As Irish education undergoes significant change, becoming increasingly digital, the Grinds360 model supports students through continuous engagement and digital resources that reflect the evolving nature of the senior cycle and the Leaving Certificate. Since inception, Grinds360 has established itself as one of the fastest growing education platforms in the country. As demand accelerates, the team is focused on deepening its impact and ensuring more students across Ireland can access the support they need. See more stories here. Texas-born, Laois-raised, London-based artist Kean Kavanagh returns to talk about his debut album The County Star. An introspective work, it finds him examining all those sides of his being: USA, Ireland, and London as he adopts the dual persona of a cowboy county star/GAA county star. Kean, who many will know as a close collaborator of Kojaque (they co-founded Soft Boy Records) released his debut project Dog Person in 2020. He suffered a vocal injury on tour with Kojaque in 2022 and had to undergo vocal therapy and relearning how to sing. It's something he examined on the 2023 EP Wrestling Music. It is also inherent on this album. We talk about all this and more in a 40-minute chat. We talk about community, traditional music and GAA, making videos with Kojaque starring comedian Peter McGann, collaborating with Karma Kid and Baz Kaye in making the record, and why he's not counting Dog Person as his debut release. [Documentary]Take a trip to Inishbofin island off the west coast of Ireland. A beloved family-run hotelis making some changes. What will their regular guests think?-I've been going to Inishbofin, with a group of friends every Easter for years. It's our annual secular pilgrimage to the island, where we stay at Ireland's most westerly hotel—The Doonmore, or Murray's, as the locals call it, named after the family who have run it for over half a century. During the Winter months, changes have been afoot at the hotel. There have been rumours the hotel has made some major renovations, and today will be the first time the general public will experience the new and improved Murray's Doonmore hotel. Come with us as we explore the hotel and the island. We'll delve into the linked history of both. We'll ask the question; what keeps people coming back year after year, generation after generation? It's time for Atlantis' only (and the franchise's final?) clip show, Letters From Pegasus. So you know what that means. It's commentary time!! Grab a drink, grab some snacks, and buckle in as we commentate our way through. Although, this does have more plot than Kerri remembers. Teyla goes a little hard on the insistence that they HAVE to save that one family. We get it, but also this is a war and John has a good point. And it does kind of bite her in the ass at the end when he comes running up to the ship with way more people than just his family. Carl Binder did an excellent job of scripting the messages home. They all feel really true to the characters. We love (to hate) that Kavanagh is still holding a grudge and instead of talking to his loved ones, decides to air his grievances with Weir instead.
