Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! For our second Parleys at the Platter quarterly special, I invited Dr. Holly Ordway, Alexi Sargeant, and Katherine Spitler to discuss something that I'm not sure is talked about all that often: the critical role (pun win) that Tolkien and his Catholicism had in helping to shape Dungeons & Dragons, modern fantasy, and nerd culture at large. So join this fellowship of faith, as we discuss how the Catholicity of Middle Earth and the Legendarium helped to shape the history and flavor of "The World's Greatest Roleplaying Game". The gang celebrates with the town of Oakhurst, Ludwig gets lucky, Tumaini has a vision, Quilanan is helpless to help the helpless, and Sacra uncovers a familial peculiarity. Hail the Void is a roleplay podcast where we'll follow a core campaign in the Dungeons and Dragons 5E universe, with occasional drifts into other narratives as we explore the vast array of roleplay systems there are out there, as well as a few of our own! We'll also feature talking-head style sessions, where we talk about our experiences with roleplay, what roleplay means to us, and how it has effected our lives. If you have a comment, idea for a magical item our heros might encounter, a roleplay system you would like to see featured, or a story of your own roleplay experience you would like to share with the world, here's how you can contact us!
