Send us a textThe Black Metal perspective makes a long overdue debut to the Nordic Sound in episode 49 with the inimitable Thomas Eriksen (Mork, Udåd). Not only has Thomas made quite the name for himself as the mind behind Mork, but kept himself and others entertained during COVID running his own Black Metal podcast, the "Thomas Eriksen Podcast" which featured some in depth conversations with big names in Norwegian Black Metal. Join us as Thomas takes us through what the style means to him, his recent work on Mork's seventh album "Syv", and my favorite, his haunting experimental project Udåd.Thomas's work has captivated me over the last few years as I've explored his impressive discography defined by "urkraft", and a warm, organic approach to black metal inspired by rock production styles from the 60s and 70s. "Udåd" sealed the deal for me with its bleak and skeletal approach to a primitive black metal sound, reminding one of the atmosphere of films like the Blair Witch Project. AAAAARRRRSSHRIRIEKKFK - try to yell that loudly over a chainsaw in use and microphone feedback. That's basically what black metal sounds like. It was big in Norway in the 90s. What was also big then was black metal musicians and their fans burning down churches and murdering people. Mortiis has been an outlier and a legend in dark music for decades. From being an original member of Norwegian Black Metal band Emperor, to his solo work as Mortiis, to the suicidal ambience of Vond, Mortiis has often been misunderstood, yet he has blazed his own path with no regard for trend or what could be deemed successful. Now, decades later, the genre Mortiis arguably created has had an explosion in popularity worldwide. In this episode we welcome Mortiis into our own dungeon to discuss Dungeon Synth past and present, his time in Emperor, gear, and his writing process. The lads chat Norwegian black metal.
On the song “Freezing Moon,” lead singer of Mayhem howls,“Diabolic shapes float by/Out from the dark/I remember it was here I died”. It's an oddly prophetic line, considering two members of the band would be dead by 1994, the year the album was finally released. Mayhem was central to the Norwegian black metal scene and most of the members were a part of the Black Circle. The Black Circle was a loosely organized group of black metal musicians who set about burning down churches and committing petty crimes across Norway. Stoked by two demagogues, the group told the public that their motive was to antagonize the Christian church and to do as much evil as possible. Last week, we set the stage. Robert Johnson was a Blues singer in the 1930s who was said to have sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his talent. He died, inexplicably, at the age of 27, right at the peak of his fame. No one has been able to confirm the cause of his death, so the rumor of his Luciferian trade lives on. Musicians are often accused of worshiping the devil by conspiracy theorists and moral purists alike. Whether it's true, is usually left up to the listener. Today, though, we'll be discussing a group of musicians who admitted to their evil intentions from the moment they picked up a guitar and the impact of their actions would be felt by the community for decades to come. Join us now for part one of this diabolical true story.Sources:Lords of Chaos by Michael Moynihan and Didrik SøderlindBlack Metal: Evolution of the Cult by Dayal Pattersonhttps://www.musicgenreslist.com/metal-music-genre/https://www.allmusic.com/artist/mayhem-mn0000335302/biographyhttps://metalinjection.net/black-metal-chronicles/black-metal-history-month/an-illustrated-history-of-corpse-painthttps://www.last.fm/music/Mayhem/+wikihttps://www.villagevoice.com/until-the-light-takes-us-a-norwegian-black-metal-documentary/https://www.macrotrends.net/states/minnesota/murder-homicide-rate-statisticshttps://knoema.com/atlas/Norway/Homicide-rate#:~:text=In%202021%2C%20homicide%20rate%20for,per%20100%2C000%20population%20in%202021.Follow us, campers!Patreon (join to get all episodes ad-free, at least a day early, an extra episode a month, and a free sticker!): https://patreon.com/TrueCrimeCampfireFacebook: True Crime CampfireInstagram: https://gramha.net/profile/truecrimecampfire/19093397079Twitter: @TCCampfire https://twitter.com/TCCampfireEmail: truecrimecampfirepod@gmail.comMERCH! https://true-crime-campfire.myspreadshop.com/This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4251960/advertisement

This week three films about moral panics, the imagined threats lurking to upset social order from morality police happy to stoke public fear for a payout. A harmless game played by a group of college students. Nothing wrong with any of it... except... what if the game goes too far? What if an obviously schizophrenic player with a history of unresolved family trauma has a sudden and immediate break from reality while playing? It MUST be the game's fault and not anything else. I said, NOT ANYTHING ELSE, okay? Tom Hanks, in the brief period between Bosom Buddies and Splash, acts his little TV movie loving heart out while being corrupted by MAZES & MONSTERS. A fictionalized account of the rise of Norwegian Black Metal. Euronymous and his band Mayhem create a new subgenre that is eagerly devoured, by not just local youth, but globally. When the band is derailed by a tragedy, they regroup opening a record shop that is also a social hub for their growing brand of music. It isn't long until everything goes wrong and the dark edge of their music leads to arson and murder. Based on the book of the same name, titled after a group not connected to the events depicted here, Lords of Chaos. Billy Tipton was a jazz musician, talent agent, caring husband and doting father. When Billy died, a closely guarded secret was revealed, and his life was spun and reframed by tabloids and talk shows in the very LGBT unfriendly late-1980s. A meta-biographical documentary about both Tipton and some more modern trans masculine experiences. Layered revelations and personal interpretations try to reframe Billy's life and legacy from the sensationalist view that has dominated it in the decades after his death. A film about trying to have an ordinary life while being No Ordinary Man. All that and Tyler wears corpse paint, Dave gets his musical theater on, and Kevin casts a wide net in the cinematic ocean. Join us, won't you? Episode 314- Perturbing Behaviour

What do Norwegian Black Metal, Zamboni driving and reenactment tintype photography have in common? They are all pursuits in the wheelhouse of our next guest, Dave Wilson, owner and wetplate photographer at Victorian Photographic Studio in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. We chat about how Dave stumbled into wetplate with no past experience in photography but was hooked after that first plate. Not only focused on Civil War reenactment photography, he also shares great insight into learning the process as a beginner, some of the pitfalls that new practitioners run into and shares ideas for some upcoming projects.

Never has there been a more extreme form of musical rebellion than Norwegian Black Metal. The genre's founding band, Mayhem, its sister act, Burzum and supporting cast of musicians with names like, Necrobutcher, Hellhammer and Dead horrified Norway in the early nineties with supreme acts of terror, satanic ritualism, murder, arson and cannibalism. By the time the ashes settled and the corpse paint chipped away, numerous band members would be dead or in jail, convicted of arson and or murder… and a new generation of young metalheads would find their way to satanism through blast beats and dead notes. We conclude our 3pt series on Norwegian Black Metal with the stupidity of the Church burnings that became pandemic in the scene...but ultimately it was a bunch of posering teens trying to be seen as not a poser in the scene, and once arrests were made, shit stopped being polite and started getting real! lets just say...these kids outgrew it pretty fast after that. dont like this episode, complain about it at (619)269-1057! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/unresearchedpodcast/message

As a companion piece to last weeks report on Beyond the Gates festival this Friday's podcast is a continuation of some bar room chat I had over an over expensive pint or two up in Bergen, so this is 10 or 12 albums that in my opinion are under rated, under appreciated perhaps in the historical canon of Norwegian Black Metal and whatever sub divisions that happened to rub shoulders with it, and at the end you can find out my top 5 of the top tier, well known famous names! become a patron over at :https://www.patreon.com/AlanAverillwant to advertise in the show? emailalan.averill@gmail.comsponsorshttps://www.metalblade.compromo code ALAN for 10% off in N.Americahttps://www.hatecouture616.com/promo code ALAN for free shippingSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. The Norwegian black metal scene of the early 90s started with pigs' heads impaled on spikes, buried clothes wrapped around dead birds, and other notorious onstage antics. In three years, it spiralled into dozens of ancient churches going up in flames, violent bigotry – and the gruesome deaths of three people. In this week's episode, the girls chart the bloody origins of one band, Mayhem, and how they fostered the most feared music scene in history… Become a patron: Patreon Order a copy of the book here (US & Canada): Order on Wellesley Books Order on Amazon.com Order a copy of the book here (UK, Ireland, Europe, NZ, Aus): Order on Amazon.co.uk Order on Foyles Follow us on social media: Instagram Twitter Visit our website: Website Sources: https://tv.apple.com/gb/movie/until-the-light-takes-us/umc.cmc.1g292qd3qhrj40k63ocy4z6we?action=play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32iX5lbVDto https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKX9OjNy_NI https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/mar/22/before-you-know-it-its-not-a-big-deal-to-kill-a-man-norwegian-black-metals-murderous-past https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/exploring-the-real-life-horror-of-90s-norwegian-black-metal/ https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20190213-lords-of-chaos-the-grisly-film-that-has-caused-outrage

RØb, Chrïs, Pådre, and Kylë are wrapping up our look into Norway's black metal scene. What started as a niche music scene (albeit with a healthy amout of satanic rituals and animal carcassses) very quickly turns violent. From the murder of a homosexual near the Lillehammer Olympic village to a rash of church burnings, the black metal scene becomes something more than just music. Norwegian Black Metal in the early '90s was on a whole different level and pioneering band Mayhem was at the center of the blood, guts, shotguns, stabbings, arson and tragedy of it all. Muriel takes us there, and if you're not a poser, you'll withstand the severed pig heads being hurled at you and enjoy this episode. Greetings, earthlings! This week we're taking a turn for the darker side....not of the force...but of MUSIC....Norwegian Black Metal, to be specific. The band that founded this particular genre of music is known as Mayhem, its members go by Eurynomus, Hell Hammer, and Varg to name a few. I know, rad, right? I thought so too. Unfortunately, Velma is going to clue us in on just how NOT rad these dudes were. INSTA stirthepot_pod Y'all! Work with me here....rate...review...let us know what you think! Or else we're just gonna keep barreling forwards whether you like it or not. (: --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/stir-the-pot-pod/support
For the final installment of our 6-episode Norwegian tour across this most creatively-fertile country, Radical Research surveys the career of Simen Hestnaes. Working both under his given name, as well as his better-known nom de l’acier, ICS Vortex, Simen has assembled a large and exceptional...
This mid week is kind of a different vibe than normal, just one story and more in line with a normal episode, but it's a shorter story and just too much fun in places not to do it So this week we discuss the prototypical Norwegian Black Metal band Mayhem. A band so twisted that by the time they put their first album out, two of the major members were already dead.
We love Enslaved. They are a rare long-running band that, in our estimation, have not released a bad album. Of their 15 full-lengths to date, your Radical Research hosts highly rank their sixth album, 2001's Monumension: it's Ginn's #2 (just behind Eld, 1997) and Wagner's...
Get your inner Norwegian demons ready for this crazy tale of betrayal and murder at 120 rpms. We are going to go into the intriguing story of the "true Norwegian Black Metal" scene, the tragic history of the band Mayhem, and listen to a story of how some people take things just a little too far.
In part one of two, we look at the rise of the Black Metal scene in Norway. Join RØb, Chrïs, Pådre, and Kylë as they cross the Atlantic in an attempt to finally understand counter-culture and no longer be considered posers by very pale people with incredibly long hair. In the infancy of rock's Scandinavian sub-genre, a small group of weird, skinny men decided to escalate things from a small group of weird, skinny men to a small group of weird skinny men that set churches on fire. Episode 28 is around! Part 2 and the closing chapter of the story of Steinar «Sverd» Johnsen.. for now, anyways. Sverd was and is part of the very beginnings of Norwegian Black Metal in every way. You know him best as original member of Mortem and Arcturus. Keyboard virtuoso and talented musician. And ofcourse a great guy. Funfact: Sverd's recorded chats with yours truly happens to be the first ever for him! So that's a real treat. We had another bash with his home brewed beer and the mic's was on!
