It's Valentine's day! Yep, we're back at it again and while I love celebrations, to me there is no better way to celebrate love than starting with self-love. I did an episode on self-love last year, go check it out if you missed it. So to follow up, I now want to focus on self-care. We should love and care for ourselves everyday but I see Valentine’s day as a reminder of that in case we’ve been caught up in our everyday life, loosing our love and care for ourselves in the process. But the thing is ... that, even if we all know that self-care is beneficial, it is still quite broad. That's why getting a little bit of help gaining clarity in the framework of how your energy works can not only be a great boost to your self-care but can also be utterly transformative. Who doesn't want that? Today, we'll look at self-care through the Human Design lense with Human Design expert Allison Unruh from Color-Shift. GROW by learning - IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT: What is Human Design?Using a Human Design perspective for self-love/care.How can Human Design nourish our soul/own self-care?Self-care advice for each of the five human design types to implement into their own self-care toolkit. Human Design and the flow of male and female energy influencing self-care practices of the different types.Human Design as a tool to influence your wellness biz branding.Simple daily habits to be and act more conscious(ly) that would apply to all of the Human Design types. And so much more …DRAW your Human Design chart at mybodygraph.comCONNECT WITH AllisonWebsite: www.color-shift.comInstagram: @_color_shift_CONNECT WITH MeWebsite: www.wahayu.comInstagram: @conscious.mattersShow your love for the podcast by leaving a review and following our socials. Valentine’s day, that time of the year when it’s all about love everywhere but … let’s switch things up a bit. Instead of falling into the business aspects of this day such as buying gifts, flowers and also looking for approval of someone else and calling your partner your “half”; let’s focus this talk on YOU, on self-love. The type of love that nourishes you deep inside and which is the key to love others fairly and healthily. Today’s episode is a little bit different from the previous ones. I was very keen on bringing you a great guest, as usual, to exchange on self-love but something was sort of blocking me in the process of doing so. I still wanted to genuinely encourage you to keep on cultivating your self-love. I had to listen to my gut feeling and stop for a moment. It got me thinking … that’s when I had this ah-ha moment: “you want to talk about self-love but with someone else, isn’t it contradictory or at least ambivalent?” I had to admit that, in a sense, yes absolutely, the power of the word “self” in the term “self-love” is so strong that I should maybe focus on that, and this time, have myself talk about what “self-love” means to ME. Not saying that opening the conversation with others about self-love is a no-no. I am actually a strong believer in adding different perspectives on the same topic to add more substance and value. Nonetheless, this time it felt right to express my own thoughts on this conscious matter. So here we are with me rambling by myself about self-love. This interview is the first of many I will conduct with the intention of integrating social justice issues with those of the personal development and self-help sphere through open conversations about individuals’ experiences and belief systems—i.e., infusing social, cultural, and political issues into the health and wellness industry. Cristina Edmunds is a woman who wears many hats—a singer, a songwriter, a music therapist, a fitness instructor, a blogger, a daughter, a twin, a wife, and a mom to a beautiful, special needs son. Cristina's son, Oscar, was born with a rare chromosomal genetic mutation that has required multiple surgical procedures, NICU stays, and regular physical, occupational, and speech therapy. He is globally developmentally delayed and tube fed. So life and motherhood is... complicated. But Cristina believes that all life is complicated and, ultimately, just what we make of it. In her blog, It's Not Too Complicated, Cristina shares her experiences in balancing her life and many roles, as well as her son's life. Here is her mission statement: I am dedicated to not only spreading awareness for families like mine, living with rare diseases, but also releasing the stigma of words like "special needs", "disabled", and "handicapped". It is my mission to provide a safe space for discussion, advocacy, and storytelling with a focus on the intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships in special needs families. I hope to educate others with my story, promote empathy and kindness, and serve my fellow special needs community with the knowledge I have, and will continue to gather, to the best of my ability. Having a child with special needs is a particularly stressful, challenging, and incredibly humbling experience. In this honest and open interview, Cristina opens up about her experiences as a mother to Oscar and the challenges she has faced medically and in her personal life, as well as the importance of having a positive mindset and attitude in dealing with difficult situations. It was truly a reminder to us all that life, really, is not too complicated.   IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT: What led Cristina to start her website, It's Not Too Complicated Cristina's experience in moving to Birmingham with her husband and their medically complex son, Oscar The importance of taking charge of your own medical experience Cristina’s experience as a new mom to a child with a lot of medical needs and a husband in law school How Cristina’s attitude influenced her journey Cristina’s approach to her marriage and how she and her husband have approached their relationship What her self-care looks like What has shaped Cristina's positive mindset and attitude?
